Portege 2000 - information needed

Hello!

I need some special information on the Toshiba Portege 2000, I hope someone could help me.

1. What CPU can I build? At the present time, there is a Mobile Pentium 3 750 MHz... Back on Portege 2000 supports higher as 1 GHz or 1.13 GHz processors? What socket has the P2000?
2 How much RAM is supported?
3. HARD-medium disk. At the moment I have a 30 GB. Support for more information? Maybe 40 GB or even 60 GB?

Thanks so far! :)

Why you n t install and use the software of hardware diagnosis like Everest home edition for example.
This software provides all the info and details.

> Back on Portege 2000 supports higher as 1 GHz or 1.13 GHz processors?
It depends on the Chipset. Check the chipset and the specifications. The chipset details can be found on the Intel page. There you should find the info about the CPU compatibility.

> 2. How much RAM is supported?
Only one slot is available and can be upgraded. You can upgrade the RAM to 512 MB max

> 3. HDD-support. At the moment I have a 30 GB. Support for more information? Maybe 40 or even 60 GB?
I think that it should be possible to use the 40 or 60 GB.
The difference between the 30 and 60 GB is not that huge.
But you should first try with a 40 GB enhanced IDE (ATA-5) interface.

Good bye

  • Cannot install Modem the Portege 2000

Help! I manually installed Windows XP and now I can't install my modem on Portege 2000. What is going on?

I had this same problem come when I installed Windows 98 on my protégé. During the installation of the operating system that you will get a yellow question mark in Device Manager when you install the modem before applying the audio driver "Reg-Files. For Windows 98, I had double click on Aliid98.reg in the folder for the audio driver on the CD T & D to add information about the modem driver. For Windows XP and Windows 2000, I think that you need to double click on Aliid.reg in the folder for the audio driver on the T & D CD to add the information to the modem driver. Let me know if it works!

  • Portege 2000 cannot start after suspend

    Hi guru,.

I'm new to this forum. So I looked through the first forum hoping to get an answer to my problem before posting, but no good result.

Here's my problem. My portege 2000 works before brilliantly. But last night, while I was trying to configure my APM suspend (this is the first attempt to suspend), the problem, the system freezes! Then I tried to restart, can not remember I turn it off by pressing the button for a few seconds or unplug the hand because of the power key is not, in any case I have wait a few seconds after that, then turn on the power again, but the system seems to be dead, the AC power led is under voltage green LED, battery was not in the slot so no sign for her, the small button Fn LED told me this Fn key works well, but the caplock key does not work because its LED is not turn on after pressing, the screen is blank, or should say it is not powered on, the hard drive does not turn.

So I unloaded the system by unplugging it from the main. After a while I swhitch on once again, the laptop is still in the same situation. Therefore, I tried to unload everything, disconnect the hand, open up the laptop, unplug the CMOS battery, wait for a while (15-20 minutes), then put it back on, but no joy.

I did some research on Google at this time and read the knowledge base on the web site of Toshiba, seems the problem come with BIOS, who say that the system does not start if the power is off during suspend mode for the original version of BIOS (later healed). So, I decide to Flash a BIOS to most recent version. I have a pc card floppy drive, so I download the BIOS and create the floppy, then I use the key to update the BIOS to power on the laptop, luckily this time it works, "ready to update bios" screen appear. But when I press the key on the keyboard, it seems that it does not access the pc card floppy drive.

By this incident, I think that the material has no problem, but the system is in standby for ever. Guru of the idea?

    Therefore, I have 2 questions:
    1. how to make it back to the start mode so that I can start my system? I need this as well according to the Readme of the BIOS update package, it should be in start mode, no interruption/recovery mode.
    2. how flashing a new bios in this situation? Do I need a USB floppy drive to do the BIOS to recognize that there is a drive so that I can Flash a new bios in there? Or the system will analyze not for material in this mode 'freezes '?

Sorry about the long story, but I think I must tell him that you guys understand the situation and what I've tried so far.

Additional information on my system, I'm under debian linux etch on this laptop, and everything that happened after I typed the command "apm-s". But it seems to me that it is the problem of BIOS problem OS?

    Thanks in advance.

    concerning
    Colin

    Hello

First question: How did you install the operating system if the laptop will not start?

I'm a bit confused Mr. I put t you know what means the boot mode.

If the laptop has been completely stopped down so it s in the boot mode (standby or hibernation mode don t mix).
If you want to update BIOS please make sure the BIOS is good and that you use the right update procedure.

Where did you find the information that the BIOS update will solve this problem?
In any case, for me, it looks more like an electrical problem on the motherboard.

  • Error IDE #0 the Portege 2000

First of all, sorry my bad English
I send this error a while ago, but 2 days ago, I do retest and I want to know if with this new information, anyone has any new ideas.
I have a 1'8 "hd giving 'IDE #0 error' ' with my portege 2000 but if I put with and adapter IDE in a standard PC, it works without problem, the only thing I see strange is that in a standard PC 1'8 ' HD as a slave not appear as master, I found the documentation for this type of hard drive that shows me jumpers I should use to configure the slave mode master hd and without" riders (as I connect to my portege 2000 and my adapter) it must be master, so I think that thar "IDE #0 error" appears because than the hd (I don't know why) was detected as slave without any reason... everything has an idea...

I have a second question, after I installed xp sp2, I have install all drivers for Toshiba but hardware/system show an exclamation (driver issue) on "diskette controller" and I try to install common modules with different version but I can not, can someone help me

    Thank you

    Hello Gleoelo

Almost 2.5 months looking for help. This is the forum of users and chances to have a detailed response to this technical problem are not so big. Portege 2000 is portable to very sensitive design and I really don't think there are that many users have experiences with this model of laptop.

Why don't you contact technicians. I really think you need professional help. With the installation of the OS I think you should try to install SP1 and Windows XP Home edition with SP2. After the operating system and any installation of Toshiba stuff, you can install SP2.

Is this Portege laptop and I am sure that it was preinstalled with SP1.

  • Portege 2000 BIOS passoword is necessary

I was handed a Portege 2000 to take a look at. As soon as I turn it on I see the Toshiba logo that immediately followed by a black screen that says only "password =".
I tried looking for answers, but came away empty-handed.

I am at a loss for what to do again. I was hoping someone here could give me an idea about where to go from here.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello

It seems that the laptop is locked with BIOS password.
You need the password in order to start the machine.
If you n t know the password, you will need to contact a local technician of ASP (authorized service provider) who would be able to remove this unknown password.

    Good luck

  • How to reset the password for starting the Portege 2000

    Hello!

I want to reset password boot on old laptop Toshiba Portege 2000.
(please turn on and write the password =)

I agree with the user above; the BIOS password can be removed by Toshiba ASP in your country!

It is a kind of security which can be removed if you are a true owner of this laptop.

Therefore, you will need to contact the ASP to get rid of this password

  • Portege 2000 - cover sensor/special keys do not work after installing XP?

Windows XP SP2 is installed on a drive formatted on a Portege 2000 previously configured to run Win 2000 factory.
After the installation of all downloads for Windows XP available on the Toshiba site have been added.
The Toshiba special keys for browser and Toshiba console now do not work and the lid sensor
to get the computer to sleep or into hibernation do not work when the lid is closed.
She will be in hibernation if you press function f4. The XP was installed came not from Toshiba.
    Help? Thank you very much.

    Hello

The fact is that the Toshiba power saver controls the hibernation mode, and the day before.
Here, you can configure this option.
AFAIK closing cover option you can set only on the eve of setting power off or no action. You cannot set to Hibernate.
In the energy saver, you will need to use the Details button. In the system power mode, you can configure this action.

    Good bye

  • Portege 2000: IDE #0 error appears

I've been working with my Portege 2000 without problems, but 2 days ago, when I turn on the screen see "error ide #0", I tried hd 1'8 "with and the adapter to a pc standard and everything seems correct, all files and folders is displayed."

When I turn on the lights hd' laptop computer led but "ide #0 error" appears.

BIOS does not show any reader.

    Thank you

    Hello

My first idea was a malfunction of the HARD drive, because the HARD drive is connected to the controller of DIE #0.
Especially the message if the BIOS does not recognize the HARD drive!
Try to access the BIOS and check if the HARD drive is listed and has been set to primary IDE.

If the BIOS talk you about this issue means that it s is not a software problem, but a hardware problem.
Try to format the HARD disk on the other computer and check if it of possible to reuse the HARD drive in the laptop.

If this does not help, I guess that the HARD drive needs to be replaced :(

  • Update of disk with the Portege 2000

First Post! I am the proud owner of gently used Portege 2000.

Browsed the web trying to find out if the Portege 2000 will be one hard disk other than the MK2003GAH. I have a MK4004GAH, but when installed it does not seem to be detected, the BIOS reports no HDD installed. The reader might be deffective of course, but I have nothing else to connect to and of course I can't test it because it is not detected.

In addition, the 2000 does not use standard PC100 SODIMM? When I removed the RAM cover, it does not resemble a standard SODIMM slot.

    Thank you guys

    Hello

I no a lot of experience with this Portege, but I can just confirm that this laptop comes with 1.8 inch Toshiba MK2003GAH HARD drive. I don't really know which are hard are compatible with this model of laptop but maybe partner allowed in your country can give you precise information on this subject. They are specialized for the upgrade of the laptop.

On the module of RAM I found information that the Portege can manage with 512 MB max and module compatible memory PC133 256 MB - PA3158U - 1 M 25.

  • Portege 2000 does not work with SP1 or SP2 & SD card problems

    Hello!
I have some problems with my Portege 2000.
    1. I had to run Windows XP without Service Packs and updates, because when I install SP1 or SP2 for example, the Portege does not start after that (white screen). The laptop starts only in Mode safe so I can uninstall the Service Pack and it works again. What can I do?

    2. I also have problems with the SD card slot. Host and card drivers are installed properly. I tested it with a 128 MB and 512 MB SD card-> works very well. But readers don't read my 2 GB card. Is the controller too old to work with more than 1 GB card?

Thanks for the help and sorry for my English :)

    Hello

1.) Please check the document on the page of the Toshiba driver on the SP2 updates. It seems that you need to update some drivers and tools

2.) Yes, it seems that the SD controller cannot manage a larger SD card sizes. In this case, you will need to use an external solution.
Buy a mulitcard reader and connect it to the USB port. This player are cheap one should support several types of cards and sizes

  • Hard disk of 60Go in Portege 2000?

Hello people, I'm a Newbe in this Forum and I have a question on my Portege 2000.

20 GB/1.8 "HDD (MK2003GAH) my phone is (the second time in 3 years now) broken."
While searching for a replacement, I found the "MK6006GAH.
My Question: This hard drive back (in all aspects) in my Portege 2000?

    Thank you for every answer

    Hello

As you can see this unit has 1.8 inch hard drive and one you have found is the right one. Probably, it will not work correctly but there is no guarantee for this. In my opinion, you should contact the authorized Service partner and ask them if they can give you this kind of information.

My personal opinion is that it will work, but if you want to buy a that make you it on your own risk. You can also ask your local dealer if there is a possibility to try it, and if there is a problem you can bring.

  • Portege 2000 - memory upgrade

I am the owner of an old but good laptop Toshiba Dynabook SS 2000 (aka portege) 2000. The material is: P750 / 128 M / 20 Gb. long ago, RAM has been increased to 256 MB, but this is not enough.

Is it possible to replace with new 256 MB 128 MB module to increase the 384 MB RAM?
Or maybe the only adjust the volume as well as on the map?

Portege European 2000 can be upgraded to 512 MB. Memory module 256 MB compatible except for the number PA3158U - 1. 25 M.

I think you can use it on your Dynabook SS 2000. Check it out.

  • Portege 2000 - new installation using the PCMCIA CD-ROM XP

I try to install XP on Portege 2000 using the official PCMCIA Toshiba CD-ROM drive.

Install the XP disk boots fine, but after that Setup copied the files it blue screen (BSOD blue). I'm not very tech savvy, but I think it means that the BIOS can 'see' the PCMCIA CD-ROM, but that the real image of XP loaded by the installation program cannot, probably due to missing drivers for the PCMCIA CD-ROM?

Then, I thought that maybe I could use F6 to load additional drivers during the initial installation, but it is beyond me to create the right set of files required. I know that you can download the Freecom drivers, but I don't know what are the driver files from CD to use and how to create from scratch the txtsetup.oem file right.

Does anyone know how to properly use F6 and load the drivers for it?

I found a lot of messages suggesting I copy the installer to the HARD disk and launch the installation from there. My problem is that the XP installation is an upgrade CD, so I will ask you at a certain time to insert a previous Windows CD and if at that time there I don't have a working CD-ROM drive...

First post on this forum so be nice - I did a search but not find a thread with a real solution, but of course if I miss a please report!

    Hello

I managed to install Windows XP Home the Portege 2000 using the PCMCIA reader but I ve used recovery disks original Toshiba which includes the correct driver for external optical drive.

So far I tried not to install Windows XP Home edition, using the Microsoft installation disc.

Maybe you should get the disks of facilities and not use this upgrade disk. I think that on this path, you will be able to install WXP as suggested when you copy data from facilities at the disk directly.
Have you tried to get the original recovery disc Toshiba WXP?

  • Portege 2000 - how to install Windows XP without ODD and FDD?

I have this Toshiba Portege 2000 old OS crashed a few days ago. This laptop is not an optical drive and a floppy drive.

The first thing is mind is to purchase an external optical drive which I did, but it does not seem to boot from it. I have trouble to install Windows XP but nothing helped.
Can you guys please help me?

The last option I have in mind would be to install Windows XP on a network. The portege 2000 is able to boot from PXE, the thing is that I don't know how to do it! Can someone tell me how to boot from PXE?

    Thank you very much.

I don't know Mr. but as far as I know if copy you the Windows XP CD to HARD disk and then you start from external floppy drive (it should work) you can start the installation.
Copy the XP CD to your HARD drive with a drive enclosure external DRIVE on another computer, create a boot floppy XP and start from it.
Go to the I386 folder and start the WINNT. EXE

Or you use the CD/DVD drive from another computer with the netbootdisk. I found this with Google:
    http://netbootdisk.com/
