    Hello

1 don't forget to prepare your hard disk with fdisk (a bootable partition) and format it with the Fat32 file system

    2. start by a MSDos saved in your floppy drive-drive with drivers for your PCMCIA CDrom drive (Freecom)

    3. copy the entire i386 to the W2K installation CD directory your HD, be sure to have loaded smartdrive, otherwise it will take ages!

4 start again with the saved, go to the i386 directory and start Windows NT

You can look here for more information about freecom pilots and the bootdisks: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19232
On your 3440 it should be easier than with the R100 because of normal 2.5 "HD 6 GB, but the problem is basically the same

My deep gratitude in advance to all.

    Hi mate

It's very old portable machine and I'm afraid that you would not be able to order the recovery for this laptop m disk.
You will need to install the Windows operating system using a disc of Microsoft.

On the European driver Toshiba page, you will be able to find the drivers and software for this laptop.
You must choose Archive product Type, because the old drivers are placed in the archives.

You will find USB - FDD driver. When you connect the USB floppy drive to the laptop it is ask for a TEAC (mainly in Europe) driver or a driver of YE-data (mainly Asian). Please check which of the drivers you need by connecting the laptop floppy drive to download the driver.

You will also find companion diskette. The accompanying disk contains programs to configure computers Toshiba installation information and to test the equipment. It also contains files and utilities that allow you to get the most out of your Toshiba computer.

Hey mate. It is important that you could install Win XP ;)

PS: as far as I know you don t need any driver to start from the CD/DVD of PCMCIA drive. It s controlled by the BIOS.
Therefore, it should be possible for a start of the PCMCIA CD/DVD drive and reinstall Win XP

  • Portege 3440 OCT - battery charge hold only for 10 Min

    Hello.

I recently had a Portege 3440 OCT, XP, seems a good bit set up, except that it does not hold its charge very long (10 min). Even when it was turned off and was in charge for about 3 hours.

Can someone help with this problem? Any help would be appreciated

    Hey Buddy,

Well, this laptop is really old so I m not wonder about this question. A battery can be recharged about 500 and when it runs out shortly after fully recharging the battery, the battery can must be replaced. You may need to buy a new battery.

You can get a new form of battery to an authorized service provider. They can sell you all Toshiba spare parts and new battery, your laptop should work on battery power for a long time yet. ;)

  • Installation CD-ROM PCMCIA (Portege 3440)

    Hello.
I have a small problem getting my Portege 3440 to recognize the cd rom drive.
I saw the dossetup and started to transfer the files to the newly formatted c drive.
However, the installation comes to 10% then stops and says that the destination is either full or protected writable disk.
I formatted the drive, I know that there is at least 6 GB of space.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I'm stumpped now and my head will soar to scratch...

    Hello

I guess you are trying to install the OS by using Microsoft full version CD because if you use the recovery CD it shouldn't happen. I have really no idea why this happen. Please check again the ability of the C: partition

If you want you can also copy the entire CD on the second partition and start the installation without using an external device.

    Good bye

    Hello to the entire community.
I hope that you will understand my post and will have problems too big to understand. I come from Germany.

The Toshiba is a very wonderful laptop. But since I've updated it to Win98Se too Windows 2000 I have a problem with the display driver. I want to extend my desktop to an external display. It was no problem under Win98Se. But with Win 2000 Sp3, I did not work. I dry a lot of pilots divernt. Of course also pilots the support page. In the displayproperties, I choose S3DuoView, but it does not work. The internal and externel display with the same image is no problem. But I want separate images, for example with PowerPoint or only to have more desktop space.
Have someone 3440 with Win2000 one lasting two screens.
Temporarily 5.12.01.7048 hypotheek version is 'working '.
A new installation does not help. The same problem apears.

Thank you for reading this long text.
    Greetings Spothuhn

    Hello

I guess you want to turn on the extended desktop on your Portege.
You suggested that the 5.12.01.7048 driver graphic works.
On the page of the Toshiba driver I found 2 different drivers for S3.
A version is 7.31.26 and the other driver is 5.12.1.7009.
I think the version 5.12 is a little older. In this case try to install the 7,31 driver version. It would be very interesting to know if it will be useful.

What version of BIOS you have installed on the device? The latest version is 1.6.
Maybe the newest BIOS will help you.

  • Portege A600 - Windows 7 installation CD/DVD device driver

    Hello.

I am trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my Portege A600.

I tried to boot from the DVD, flash. I changed all of the possible settings in the BIOS, I have updated the BIOS to version 3.0, but I still have this bloody error "a required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing". Is there a place where I can download this driver to show the installer without having to download a 100 TB of pron?

Or is there a way to fix my problem?

    Hello

First of all there is no special driver CD/DVD. It of a part of Windows 7 and so there are no drivers available.

It would be interesting to know when you get this error exactly.

Maybe your defective CD/DVD drive. You can test another?

  • Portege R600 - Windows 7 switch backlight does not

I have a new Portege R600, comes with Windows 7 32 bit and the switch on / off for the backlight does not work.
I installed the new VFR package, until I uninstalled the old. Also the latest version of the Bios.

Use the support Toshiba button and placed in the file backlight.exe, still does not work. If I tap the backlight.exe file manually, it works.
It is not a problem of material, as told in the hard drive of my old R600 with XP Professional and works of button.

    What can I do?
Toshiba support is not able to help, to talk about the new facility, but is the original unchanged.
Maybe in the button holder, I put in an option in the empty file?

    > Switch on / off the backlight does not work.
AFAIK some BIOS versions contains the additional option to enable and disable the lighting.
Please check if the lighting is not disabled in the BIOS.

  • Portege M400 - Windows XP cannot find the hard drive

    Hello

Ive got a Portege M400 who im looking to get a new one, I never had the Tablet XP CD so im trying to install using an XP Pro disk, but whenever I get no hard drive can be detected and I tried another disc of publishing house also.

Ive looked for SCSI / SATA drivers but can only find RAID drivers which are not good for me.

I hope someone can help me

    Thank you

    Hi wacksonjackson,

Why these RAID drivers are not good for you? Windows XP requires RAID drivers if your laptop is RAID controller and there is no other choice to install XP from a normal Windows XP disc. Then download the RAID drivers on the official website of Toshiba. Either you create a new installation with the RAID drivers disc using nLite freeware tool or you copy the drivers on an external USB FDD and load them during the installation of XP.

Also check similar topics here in the forum. You will find hundreds of similar topics on SATA and RAID drivers.

  • Portege R700, Windows 7, mounted sudden fan/cpu, freeze and force stop

    Hello

I have a persistent problem that starts to become annoying... Portege 700 running Windows 7. Normal use (office, WMP, IE anything heavy)

No apparent reason (no new requests started for example), there is a sudden increase in the speed of the fan which should be max (looks it takes off) and I suspect use of the processor at the same time. And it's that it's not simply to stop (I left for awhile on occasion) and does not match an input (keyboard or mouse). The only 'solution' is to use the power button to force a shutdown. (And then I lose all cookies etc. when starting again).

I did a lot of Googling on that. Thought it was WMP network sharing Service and has taken measures to see, but have recently disabled that service and still the problem occurs... (I checked that it is always disabled when just rebooted).

I keep as 'clean' as I can (have AV installed, use ccleaner regularly etc etc) so would be surprised if a virus/worm, but am running a scan again just in case...

This happens quite often be a pain - and I have no idea what is the cause, if any ideas gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance.

    Tim

    Hello

I m no owner on the site Web of Toshiba Portege R700 but I found an article that describes EXACTLTY the same problem. High activity of its use and CPU fan, then it freezes :(

    Hello

After you have installed the Preview of Windos 8.1, the 3G Modem is no longer in effect.
Anyone have the same problem and know a solution?

I did update the Firmeware (long before 8.1)
I tried to download the latest version of the driver, but does not work!

It will be found, but is not operational.

    Portege Z930-PT234E
    8.1 Windows 64-bit

    Kind regards
    Armin

    Hi Armin

The RTM of Windows 8.1 version is in the month of August, so I think that Toshiba can offer some new drivers will fix all the problems. Until the official launch, I don t think that you will find whatever on Toshiba support and download page. I fear he must wait a little in the hope that Toshiba will offer necessary updates of m.

Let's see if someone has more information on this subject.

  • Portege R100 + Windows 7 RTM commercial = fail

    Hey people,

I just came to Windows7 RTM on my Portege R100. But I can't not all utilities work. For the Hotkeys FN + Workin ', I tried "Toshiba Value added Package", but I did appear an error during the installation process: "ID_ERR_NOTINSTALLVALZ_MESSAGE."

One for Windows xp designed software does not start anyway... so I had to look for software designed for vista/7, but in my eyes toshiba can't stand not a 5 year book, most new operating systems... driver vista for my R100 at all, but with windows7 I have no driver to install manually.

So, how can I solve the problem with the FN keys? Nothin' works, the because not all software start XP designed...

    Thank you
    Betzi

    Hello

I think that it s Betzi normal and you can't do anything. I mean it s only the RTM of Windows 7 and currently are without tools and drivers for Windows 7 available. What you can try are Vista drivers.

I think you should wait a few more weeks until the driver support starts, possibly for R100

Alternative, you can try some software in beta from the Toshiba page we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com

    Good luck! :)

This seems to be the controller of Intel AMT.
You can download the driver form Intel page.
Search for Intel AMT or check this link to the page of the Toshiba driver:
