Hello Nic

To be honest, I don't really think someone here so much experience with the software and the 3 G module. In my opinion the best thing you can do is to reinstall OS and see if this work with own pre-installed WXP. If this isn't the case, maybe is there a hardware problem. Try to contact the authorized supplier of Toshiba. They can check the materials.

It is really not easy to tell a lot about such things.

But there may be other software here?

    Hello

What software do you mean exactly?

As far as I know that the MobiLink was preinstalled on some units Portege M400.
    This software supports these features:
Send and receive SMS, composition and read TEXT messages in several languages, compose and send to multiple recipients, the mobile contacts address book support, Rich edit for the launch of URL and Email using embedded addresses.

As you can see that you can not use this software to make calls!
And unfortunately other software does not know me :(

  • Portege M400 - Toshiba Flash Cards crashes on Vista

Toshiba Flash Cards crashes on Vista when windows is configured to use the standard color scheme "windows" under appearance settings, (for your information, I prefer to use this mode, vista runs faster, uses less energy and less ram system in this mode).

However, he does not plant immediately, on the contrary, it seems to crash whenever I flip the screen (which happens quite often that I m using a tablet pc) with the version previous software it crashed at startup but which seems to have been fixed with this version, although not completely, but when it blocks it completely will not close even if I force the Task Manager to end the process (rather than just the) Task).

I don't know what version it was. Then he asked me to restart, after I did the reboot of the device unbootable and I see only an orange flashing :(

Please how can I reset my old BIOS? Is this the end of my Toshiba?
I am now in a forign country and there are noToshiba service center near me

Please is there any similarly to help me

    Hello!

I think that in this case you must go to an ASP. I put t see another solution for this problem because I think the ROM module has to be reflashed or the card mother completely must be replaced.

On the Toshiba site, you can search the nearest ASP:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported downloads & => find an authorized service provider

And if you don t find an ASP in your country please contact an ASP in another country. I'm sure they will try to help you.

  • Portege M400: Is it possible to use the resolution 1400 x 1050 on external monitor?

The Portege M400 SXVGA (i.e. 1400 x 1050) can support 1400 x 1050 via analog / external monitor? I ask this question because I can't do! Most importantly, he is happy to provide, even if the monitor is a TFT 1400 x 1050 screen is 1280 x 1024.

I downloaded the latest Intel drivers and screen drivers, and although the o/s reports screen as being happy to show 1400 x 1024, it is not an option when selecting the resolutions.

    Is this a known issue?
    It is corrected using digital?
    Am I stupid?

    Hello

I'm not 100% sure but I think that that it will not support a higher resolution. In my opinion, it is according to the performance of the graphics card and the resolutions supported and not according to the used port.

  • Portege M400: Resolution 1680 x 1050 on external screen is not available?

    Hi people,

I just installed a Portege M400 with an external monitor from other manufacturers. This optimal resolution of the monitor is 1680 x 1050. I installed the latest Intel drivers available on the web site of toshiba with manufacturing monitor drivers. I can't get this combination in its optimal resolution. Can anyone of you help me with this problem please?

One thing you need to know: the monitor works perfectly on another laptop... so it has nothing to do with the monitor itself...

    Thanks in advance...

    Hi Steve

I think that you are not able to use this resolution because it s is not available in the properties of the graphics card.
To my knowledge, doesn t graphics card driver supports different resolutions. Some of the resolutions are disabled or are not in the graphics card driver.

Some users have solved this problem by using a different graphics driver, but this is only possible on models with the nVidia or ATI graphics cards.
Unfortunately, I think that there is nothing to do.

  • View Portege M400 on TV?

    Hello
I have a portege M400 regular and I want to display on a TV. I bought a simple vga to s-video cable on ebay... What don't get me? The seams of the video card to be able to do this option...

    and the clues...
    Thank you

The unit sends the right signal to good port. It is possible that you need very high quality adapter. I didn t try to use this kind of adapters because my laptop has S-Video output port, but the port is not available on your Portege.

Please check also all the settings on your TV. It is also possible that you need to activate the S-video port on the TV.

  • Portege M400-139: can't find 3G modem

I have problem with my 3G modem: I can't find my modem 3G (my computer/properties/Device Manager). When I bought my Portege M400-139, I saw this modem (my computer/properties/Device Manager), and I haven't had any problems with the modem.

After 2 weeks, I lost the modem without any reason.

    Hello

What are the first 6 digits of your serial number for Portege M400?

As far as I know Toshiba has delivered two different protected M400 series.
The series with number of PPM40E does not support the 3G modem and the series with the number of PPM41E has been delivered with the card 3 G.

So be sure that you have the good series that supports this feature

  • Portege M400 HDD - password and drive upgrade questions

    1. How can I change the hard drive password? the Toshiba utilities allow me to change the password of the BIOS but not the hard drive password

    2. If a secondary hard drive is mounted, it is possible to run the DVD writer as an external Bay? y at - it a connector / converter available?

    3. If Toshiba RAID mirroring is enabled, this speed of disk read time? for example reading speeds could theoretically be doubled by interlacing readings on the two disks - what is the difference of real world performance?

    4. are there restrictions on the internal hard drive?
I bought a new hard drive from Toshiba (MK1234GSX / 120 GB) and mounted in secondary drive Bay, it works, I cloned the existing overall hard drive and it is even possible to boot from the secondary drive and see both drives.
However if I replace the internal drive with the new drive, I can see the drives in the bios, but blue-screens of windows at startup: error seems to be that windows does not find the disk...

When I add the original disk to the secondary drive Bay and start since I also can't get windows to recognize the new drive.
This doesn't seem to be a simple problem of windows, because windows is happy to start on the new drive in the high Bay, so I ask if there is some restrictions at the end of Windows...

5 Why have saved my Portege M400 website it says: "sorry, but this product is not available in your region."

    Thanks for any advice,
    Jonathan

1.) as far as I know the HARD drive password can be changed in the BIOS
But beware, if you forget or type the HARD drive HARD drive password will be locked and you will not be able to access the HARD disk. In this case, the HD is not more usable.

(2.) the Ultra Slim bay is a single drive bay that welcomes the reader of CD/DVD or a secondary HARD disk.
The extension utility from Toshiba Mobile allows the insertion of hot of these modules.
I found this info in the user manual and following modules can be installed in the Bay ultra slim:
-Ultra Slim adapter HARD drive Bay: this will allow you to install a HARD drive in option
-Kit ultra Slim bay DVD-ROM drive or DVD super multi drive kit
    -Disk (SATA) HARD drive kit
The adapters you will need to order of the ASP

(3.) I did not notice any differences in speed reading while the RAID has been enabled or disabled. (I used the Qosmio G20 with RAID)

4.) Please check the manual for compatible HARD drive sizes!

5.) maybe the M400 is not available in your country or region. But it s only my suggestion

  • Tecra M4 or Portege M400: notice required

    Hello
I plan on buying a tabletPC and close to 100% chose Toshiba. Prices seem to be ok. But I still don't know what to choose - Portege M400 or Tecra M4.

The M400 is power supply newer batteries, lighter, longer, and I have a Core Duo cpu. However, I use programs like Photoshop, AutoCad, 3ds max, Corel and so on.

Is that the Intel chip is sufficient for these purposes? The M4 has GF Go6600 GPU which I'm sure is ok.

Help, please! Thanks for the tips!

    Hello

I studied a bit in the internet and found some data about the M4 Tecra and Portege M400.
It seems that Tecra has been delivered with a different hardware configuration.
You can purchase the Tecra with CPU Intel-Pentium-M (Dothan) 760, 740, 750, 730 1.6 GHz, 1.73 GHz, 1.86 GHz, 2.0 GHz and 2 different graphics cards: nVIDIA GeForce FX Go6200 64 MB or 128 MB nVIDIA Go6600.
Also, there are different sizes of HARD drive; 40, 60 and 80 GB
    The screen is 14.1 "(1400 x 1050)."

The same thing on the Portege M400. It has also been configured with different CPUs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom) processor T7400, T7200, T5600, T5500.
The graphics card is a bit slower because it s a graphics card memory sheared.
But you know, if you're not a hardcore game player, so you don't need a graphics card performance. The size of the screen is a bit smaller. Its 12.1

I think that if you like little notebook so the M400 is not a bad choice.

But you know s of your choice and you must know what you want to buy.
But I like more the Portege unit

  • Portege M400 + WiMAX Intel 5350

    Bought a card pushed!
    WiFi is accessible
WiMAX is not even in the dispatcher of problems!

    What is a problem?

    Hello

To be honest I m not very well what problem you have.
I see that you have bought Intel 5350 WiMAX card and updated the Portege M400

I found info on the page than the Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350 Intel and Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150 are family of network adapters wireless IEEE 802.16e and 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N1 which operates in the range of 2.5 GHz for ghosts of WiMAX and 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz for WiFi.

To be honest I m uncertain quote if this card is compatible with this laptop.
To my knowledge there is no Draft N support.

But here is some info on this product I found on the page of Intel:

  • Portege M400 - WLan issues connection Orange Livebox

    Hello

My landlord has recently upgraded our WLan by introducing an Orange Livebox. I tried to do everything to connect wirelessly to the router, but nothing helped.

All the other machines were connected with little or no problem/s. I have installed new Configfree, tried connecting via Windows system according to the instruction to the Orange site, re-typed the code several times WEP. Refined network connections, installed new Intel drivers and installed the software Orange Livebox. I'm running out of options fast.

Wireless connection is found, it tries to connect but will not give me a network address, even with the lights flashing (according to the instructions of Orange), even when it is connected through the Ethernet cable, there is no problem what so ever.

I've had a look through the forum and found nothing that exactly matches my problem and I tried to implement suggestions that seems familiar, but nothing has worked. Absence of any Advisor, I'll just phone Toshiba or Orange for the tips, however, I want to be spared from long conversations with people in technical support.

I have a Portege M400 with an Intel (r) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG built into the adapter.

    Suggestions anyone?

    Thank you very much

    David

    Hello

In this case, it is not easy to say why it happens.
One of my notebooks is not able to connect to the WLan router because the router supports Wlan 802.11 BG and my Wlan card support has and B mode.

But you should first check if the Windows Firewall has been disabled. Disable encryption on the router, then try to connect to the laptop without encryption.

Sometimes the MAC address filtering has been on WLan routers. In such cases, only registered WLan cards can connect to the WLan router.
I recommend to disable all filters, encryption and then try to connect to the wireless LAN. If you will be able to connect the router you can enable encryption again.

  • Portege M400 does not accept the hard drive built into the boot password

First I assigned a 9 character long password BIOS via the security utility help my new Toshiba Portege M400 (M400-139) with Windows XP Tablet Edition.
He asked me if I also want to use the same password "repeated" to cover the 22 or so (I don't remember) characters long password of HDD, and I said ok.
Then, I removed the BIOS password. But couln can't remove HARD drive password.

I then created a different password which has been long 1 character and removed, but the HARD drive password remained.
When I rebooted the system, he asked me the 'HARD Word built-in disk '.
I tried to enter both the 9 and 1 character long passwords, but it says not 'certified '. What should I do?

Should I write tha password over and over again, until it reaches 22 or more characters?
If this is the problem, then, the number of characters long?
I also think that the keyboard layout mapping can be a problem.

I have never changed the setting page, but maybe that the default value of the plant is different from a windows.
But I used only numbers and letters of international standard.

    I need immediate assistance.
    All my work is interrupted.

I put t know if you have inserted the right HARD drive password or not but the non-certified message said that the inserted password is certainly not correct.
Someone said that the message uncertified might if poster if you laptop was send hibernation instead of the stop mode mode after the password has been set.

But I don t think that this could be relevant in your case.

One question; have you tried to delete the password for HARD drive via the password of Toshiba or in the BIOS utility?

Please check if you can edit/delete in the BIOS because I found the info in the manual M400 you must use the BIOS Setup to modify, delete the disk HARD ot password to set the password master HD!

The manual also provide information if you forget the user Toshiba HARD drive password will not be able to help you and your HARD drive will be rendered completely and permanently unusable! When save the HARD drive password stop or restart the computer. If the computer is not shut down or restarted, the recorded data (password) cannot be correctly included!

So maybe that's a reason why you can not change the HDD password?  :|

  • Picking and Portege M400 displacement causes the crash and locking of the

I have a new problem with Portege M400, which began a few days ago.

If I pick it up or move it, then it will crash or lock up. I wonder if anyone has any idea as to what may be the cause of this and what can be done?
My only guess is to replace the hard drive?

    Thank you
    Greg

    > Turn off accelerometer does not help. Internet research indicates that it is possible a motherboard problem. Replacement motherboard solves problems for about 6 months to a year, then it returns.

I doubt that it could be a motherboard problem, what the gbaniseter say this happens when it pick up or move the m400, then it will crash or lock up.
This seems to be a problem of HARD drive and it s nothing uncommon who, after a long period of use of the disk HARD start HARD drive malfunction is a sensitive device and can die because of the physical restraint
Replace the HARD drive and check if the problem would happen!

  • Portege M400 - cannot install OS or restore an old image

I have a portege M400 and im hardly set any operating system of windows on them. When it gets to the stage where he asks what hard drive to put in place the windows files to, it does not detect the drives.

I also have an image on a hard drive that I use a universal driver restore program to restore to any laptop regardless of the make and model and which also blue screens after the logo of windows xp when it starts up. The toshiba is the first laptop that I fell on this issue.

The BIOS is currently 1.8 I think, I can't even put the hard drive in compatibility mode or AHCI.

im a little confused about restrictions of this laptop.

Can someone guide me on what I need to do to install windows on this machine please?

Timox is right: the RAID driver must be added during the installation of Windows XP.
During installation, you will be asked to add 3rd third-party drivers. As I m not wrong not you must press F6 to add the RAID driver.

Very important note: do not format the HARD drive once the RAID driver has been added because this would remove the RAID driver from the HARD drive and installing Windows XP will fail again.
