Portege R500-126 battery life

I bought the Portege R500-126 @2 nine weeks ago and with SDS and no DVD/CD, I was expecting, as announced, to * 8 hours * autonomy

To test, I fully charged the battery that was supplied with the machine, selected power plan 'Power Saver', out the charger cable and curled only 3 hours later, with no use of computer laptop whatoever, the battery is almost discharged

On the Toshiba sales site, I noticed they sell one * Li - Ion 6 CELLS 5800 MAH * battery for £95 + VAT, is the same battery that comes with R500-126 and is anyone else having this problem?

Hello

I found this website product Toshiba Portégé R500-126:
http://UK.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/JSP/productPage.do?PRODUCT_ID=145824

But unfortunately, there is nothing on the duration of battery life.
There is only this;
Maximum life: currently no Windows Vista battery reference available official result

Still is it that Vista needs more energy as another Vista OS (i.e. XP) eats the laptop and my knowledge resources, he needs two times more energy than XP.
In addition the run time depends on hardware configuration. Stronger systems of waste more energy as devices with a lower yield.

However, to you in question;
AFAIK the R500 was equipped with the PA3612U-1BAS/BRS 6cell battery pack.

See you soon

I just wanted to check that Windows XP runs entirely on a laptop R500-126.
We are not moving to Vista any time soon so we must be sure that it will work.

A dealer also suggested that this might even void the warranty.
I have my doubts, but if someone could confirm it to be?

    Hello

I put t see serious reasons why the XP operating system shouldn't t work on the Portege R500.
AFAIK that Toshiba XP drivers are out on European Toshiba driver page and everything should work after the installation of all the XP drivers and tools of Toshiba.

The right installation order is very important. Please see the installation instruction txt file placed on the page to get the correct order.

By the way; the instillation of XP will not void the warranty ;)

What light display do you mean exactly? Do you mean the light of the internal screen itself?

As Akuma writes, this problem could be related to an old battery because they are consumables itmes and after a while or use it must be replaced.

  • Question on the working time of battery on Portege R500-12 s

    Hello

We have a R500-12 s - Core 2 Duo U7700 1.33 GHz - 12.1 "TFT bought a few months running windows XP and it never watch a few hours of battery life remaining on the same XP battery indicator after a charge complete.

This happens with the power plan best setting for the life of the battery under XP.
I note that the Toshiba sales presentation text mentions a LIF battery of up to 8.5 hours, but can anyone else advise what dead battery they see leaving their R500?

I put a battery calibration program in control panel/menu start - everyone has one? Thanks in advance.

    Hey Buddy

You mean you want to run the laptop on battery for more than 8 hours?  :|
Sorry, but I can't believe that I doubt that this is possible using the standard battery.

AFAIK the R500-12 was equipped with the battery of 3 cells 2900mAh.
Maybe you can run Notepad longer with a battery of stronger but I n t think only a 3a battery enough power for 8 hours.

Visit the Web of Toshiba Options & accessories and you should find some stronger batteries for this laptop.

  • Portégé R500-10u: energy-saving - the battery life and screen

    Hello
I just bought a Portege R500 10u and I fight with the energy saver utility.

No matter what I do, when I switch to the power of the battery, the phone tells me that the maximum time I have is 2 hours and 45 minutes - even when I do not do anything on the laptop at all.

Furthermore, the screen saver is constantly on all the time. In the public service of electricity of standby, everywhere wherever I could see, the setting is NEVER. When I on the power controls in Windows (I use Windows XP), the screen saver is programmed to start, but I'm not able to change this setting. I get a message that I need to use the Toshiba power saver utility.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you

You said * ONLY * 3 hours and 20 minutes! Hey Buddy, are you kidding me!
It's more than enough for this laptop! There s nothing wrong. Believe me ;)

  • Portege series, different on R100 and M100 battery life?

    Hello everyone,

I want to buy a new laptop with a high mobile work autonomy. The R100 and M100 are retained, but anyone know if there are differences in the life of the battery. I tested the two NBs to my dealer, but I have no experience of working with them over a long period.

    Goodbye, Tanya-LB

    Hi Tanya,

I had the honour to test these two laptops in our society. They are all two developed business model for great mobility and battery life. On one side you have the R100 with a Centrino ULV 900 MHz (ULV = Ultra Low Voltage) and a lithium-ion-polymer battery. This combination allows a battery life of 2 hours and with the second extra battery up to 6.4 hours.

On the other side, you have the M100 with a LV Centrino with 1200 Mhz (LV = low voltage) and lithium-ion battery. If you need that one unloading in use battery is approximately 4.5 hours with an extra battery up to very good 8.5 hours.

So in my opinion, these books are really well designed and complete specifications of high mobility. The M100 has the highest battery life and performance.

If you have any questions, ask me.

We could also see the factsheet on the Toshiba site

    https://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com

    in the menu products.

I hope this will help you.

  • Where can I find XP x 64 drivers for Portege R500 - hotkey / power management?

Where can I find the downloads that will enable the power management or hotkey support for my Portege R500?

I already installed the drivers for everything except the fingerprint reader (do not want), tpm (really envy) and hdd (tos620a) motion sensor (not embarrassed at this time). Most of the drivers are recent original sites of the seller or, in the absence of those, leaving Toshiba 64-bit Vista download areas.

Everything else works generally: wifi, graphics & chipset, sound, lan, bluetooth stack, cardbus, card reader, etc.

However, after doing this, are the following questions:

FN keys do not work for suspend to ram, suspend-to-disk, * screen * brightness *-essential to extend the life. FN keys for digital/Board pad, rocker of external surveillance * work

Dedicated toggle backlight button does nothing

However, in order to get the lifetime of battery beyond ~2.5 hours and closest alongside 7.1 hours, I need to turn things down / stop occasionally. What software can help and where I can get, as it runs on Windows XP x 64 edition?

    Note:

I tried packages of 32-bit xp which provides Toshiba, they do not seem to work on x 64. The package 'chopsticks' requires 'cmod', but 'cmod' gives this error:

    Installation of Modules common TOSHIBA
Not an ACPI machine. Cannot install TOSHIBA ACPI peripheral logic.
    Ok

I tried the 32-bit xp package called 'pwrsav '; It installs a bad help link in my Start menu and adds a few exes, tpsmain and tpsoddctl, to my automatically starts. These 32-bit executables left immediately after execution.

I tried to install packages of 64-bit Vista from Toshiba hotkeys / common modules / power management, but the only one of the three I can find via toshiba.co.uk is the common modules, and unfortunately this zip file contains only .inf, .cat and .sys files, no program installation.

    Motivation:
I use a new installation at the same time because the default installation of Vista is unusable (900 MB of memory used on a fresh startup desktop, disk divided into several partitions, trial, adware and with broken software at left and right)
I use x 64 because I am software engineer the next product needs to work on x 64, and this new laptop was a likely first candidate

    Hello

    Bad news first :(

The European driver Toshiba page provides the drivers for XP 32 bit and Vista (32-bit & 64-bit).
I did find all the drivers for XP 64-bit OS.

As much as I know XP 64-bit drivers is not exist for one of the series of Toshiba laptops.

    Now a new better ;)

I found a tool called display Tuner.
It offers convenient access to the monitor settings, such as brightness, contrast, color settings.

Perhaps this is an option for you.
    Google a bit

    See you soon

  • Portege R500 stops automatically

Portege R500 stops automatically when it is connected to the power for a certain period.
It comes on Toshiba power cable and cable igo juice. Tends to happen when it's hot, with or without battery.

Yellow flashes 2 long, short 2, 1 x long, 3 short. Only way to reset is to subscribe to the battery and the power cable.
Occurred after be connected for some time and will work only on power outlet after a long wait.
Now the case more often, even if the connection to the laptop isn't hot.

This is the 3rd generation of this laptop I've had over the last 10 years and with the memory of mid-life upgrade, they seem to be very robust and this is the fundamental problem only that I have met.

    Are there patches?

    Hello

The blink code means that a hardware problem has been detected on the motherboard.
So I think this could be a hardware related issue and not an overheating problem
    But nothing is impossible
You can try to clean the cooling fans/modules with a jet of compressed air
Would it help to remove dust from the computer laptop cooling grids
This workaround is useful if the laptop temperature is too high and the laptop stops automatically to avoid that the pieces of equipment against damage

  • Portege R500 - low volume with Win 7 and Realtek driver

    Hello

I have now installed Windows 7 on my R500 to prepare for the end of Windows XP to life.
I've experienced this now with Windows 7 sound does not really work.

Build-in speaker does not work and a speaker connected to the outside with amplifier can get just a little sound in the maximum amplification I googled and saw many people having similar problems.

Does anyone know if Toshiba has a solution for this?

Other people with laptop computers Portege have the same problem?

    Thank you
    Markus

AFAIK the Portege R500 supports Realtek ALC262
I googled and found some people having problems with low sound volume on other laptops from other manufacturers using the piece ALC262

But I found the solutions :)
Download the utility of small noise turn Mute Off after upgrade to Vista
[Its utility to turn Mute Off | http://support.toshiba.com/support/viewContentDetail?contentId=1671893&pf=true] and unzip it with WinRAR or WinZip
You will find a small file called "MuteOff". Run this file as an administrator and check if your sound would work.

Note: All drivers should be installed as well as the Realtek audio driver.

    Your comments would be appreciated

  • Portege R500 - replacement of the keyboard - success

After buying a new keyboard for the R500 on EBay about a year ago, I finally blew the courage to replace a badly scratched by a new keyboard. The reason I've waited? I was worried about how to get out the old keyboard (it is locked down to the chassis, and it was obvious that I have would hurt one during the withdrawal.

There is a nice write-up general on how to disassemble a R500 here:
    http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Portege-R500/disassemble-laptop-remove-hard-drive.htm

The description above is not to discuss the keyboard however, so here's some additional information and tips:

    * Read this whole procedure before you start - it's simple, but not for the faint of heart.

    * Shut down, unplug the power, remove the battery.

    * Make sure that you have the correct keyboard for your model. The US keyboard is p/n G83C000903US for example. One I removed was a Rev 1 and a new one, I had a Rev 2 (don't know the difference - they look identical). They can get as low as $40-mais check the part number before you buy.

    * The keyboard connector is located under the computer, and so you will have to take off from the bottom, carefully following the instructions in the link above.

A couple of notes: (a) the cable Ribbon PCMCIA connector must be opened to disconnect the cable, as this is the only thing that prevents you from removing the bottom of the computer. You can easily do so through access memory on the back door, but BE careful not to damage the cable lock. It works by switch to the top the little plastic lever that is held in place by small pieces of plastic on the sides of the connector that flex * a little *. Be gentle with this connector. When you put it back later-connector, if you placed the cable all the way into the connector, you can lock with only slight pressure down on the connector, and it will snap into place.

    (b) there are other types of cable Ribbon connectors use too. For example, to unlock the keyboard connector, now visible also on the bottom of the deck, slide both ends of the connector in the direction where the cable plugs in. They are snug and will only move about 1/4 ", be gentle but firm.

    (c) the two tiny connectors blocks free access to the water of the keyboard do not have locks on them. We're a band with only a few drivers, and one is a red and white power connector. Just pull out them. All the other connectors, you will probably miss through requires unlocking, so be careful!

_Now back to the keyboard: _

Once you have managed to disconnect his cable on the bottom, turn the laptop and start to remove the keyboard on the edges. It is supported by many small pieces of sticky tape, 2 faces, and that's it. As the base of the keyboard is made of aluminum, it is likely that you will distort the keyboard a bit as release you it, even though it may be downplayed maybe using a tool like a rule or something plastic and pry with it. Take care of not to damage the connector of the Ribbon and try to ignore these scary cracking sounds that identify each section!

Once you have turned it off, you must remove any excess tape before starting point and again put a bunch of small pieces of new, good quality 2-sided tape (such as 3 m). No need to use anything stronger or thicker - just put a bunch of parts everywhere on the base, especially near the edges and the space key.

Now, finally, turn the keyboard in position, making sure that you screw the connector back Ribbon through to the correct place. Turn the laptop over and re - insert and lock the Ribbon connector (make sure that it is directly and fully forward lock connector). All other connectors back in too. Then come back and push down hard on all sections.

Re-assembling, taking care to put the 4 mm and 6 mm screws in the right places and a tiny on the side.

Cross your fingers and turn it on!

    Good luck!

    Thank mate for this review.
Generally the replacement of keyboard is not really complicated and someone with small technician skills should be able to replace it

  • Portege R500-S5001X will not start

My Portege R500 arrested last night when displaying "my pictures" and I was not able to do restart upward.

I removed the battery and turn the direct power, but when I power on I get the Toshiba with "Intel" page in the lower right and five icons feature lower downtown.

It will not boot to Windows, I know I should know, but I "think" it works under XP.

I have no recovery disks, he passed to us my father in law a few years ago and no supported drives has come that I can find.

    Can someone help please!

    Thank you
    Tim

    Hey,.

Can you please verify certain things?

You can start in safe mode? After you have powered on the notebook press key F8 to access the Windows Advanced Boot menu and select mode.

If you cannot access the t Windows Advanced Boot menu, you must check the BIOS if the HARD drive is recognized correctly.

  • Portege R500 - CPU is 50% (accelerator)

My Portege R500 has to a C2D U7700 processor, who still works at half it is the maximum speed. And when I say always, I mean that lower the CPU load makes no difference, battery/power makes no difference, and power management has also makes no difference.

Note that I speak not of the States-P! The processor goes to 1, 33GHz when I wait for him. I have NOT also speaks the thermal throttle, because the cpu is not overheating. I do not speak of the * economy Butterfly * normal energy.

    How can I know it?

Well, I turned this processor is actually slower than an Atom N270. This could not be true, so I went to study. I downloaded [RMclock | http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml] and I noticed that the throttle is never more than 50%. RMclock can turn off gas also by the force of the lever, and then YES my laptop is literally twice as fast (which can be seen in any benchmark CPU). But after 10 seconds or more, the throttle is back and the laptop is back at half it's maximum speed.

Here's what I've tried so far:
    (1) HWSetup, the value dynamic CPU frequency Mode "still high". No change.
    (2) in Vista, select "High performance" power plan and max on the "CPU power management" option in the options advnaced. No change.
    (3) in RMclock, define the profile to * only * use the throttle to 100% State. No change.
    (4) RMclock, disable C1E instruction. No change.

So. How can I get the gas in order to exploit and 100% when I need to? Otherwise I could buy a netbook-Atom based as well :(

    Please help :)

    Hello Touré

It will be interesting to know if you are still using the factory with all settings preinstalled Toshiba stuff or you have maybe clean installation of the OS?

What is the CPU load in idle state?
What happens if you open several applications and expect more power?
Use CPU does only 50% and remains at this level?

  • Portege R500 is seriously defective

It was first the CTRL dying.
Went to the office with him and they they replaced all keyboard because they said it was almost burnt.

SECOND, I remember first to get this laptop brand new costed me more than my monthly salary, I was pretty happy with it, I could put on my feet and start reading and coding.

NOW, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to HOLD IT in MY LAP because of the TOO MUCH HEAT.

THIRD, now the CD PLAYER does not work, showing that magical exclamation that many see in Device Manager, usb device.

FOURTH, at 03:16, this LATOP woked me up, with the SOUND OF THE CD DRIVE ASSEMBLY or other operation, it does. The laptop WAS CLOSED, but it suddenly STARTED to the TOP (if I had it in its box in plastic with paper, THIS COMPLETELY PORTABLE INVOICES COULD HAVE STARTED A FIRE and EVEN ending my life, although I'm living alone, at least, I would have been the only one with such a bad choice)

I AM SO angry BECAUSE I have TAKEN REALLY CARE of this laptop, being my first laptop, bought my own money worked hard and thought that I was using when I need (used either 3 - 4 times per month).

IS IT IS POSSIBLE, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME AND NEVER CHOOSE TO BUY IT.
I WANT TO GIVE BACK THE LATOP AND GET A REFUND.

There is NO case of CAPS in their only keyboard.

I am writing this message in the time right when there was me, wake up that night that I could have got killed by the PORTEGE R500 with vista.

Please, someone who could HELP SOLVE what could be resolved, help me if you're Toshiba or joing me if you are an affected person as I am.

    Hello

If you've noticed some serious hardware issues with your laptop, you must contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and try to clarify this. They have the procedure and special diagnostic tools how to verify functionality of the laptop.

You have your laptop in front of you and what you can do to change something or test the functionality is BIOS update and clean install of the OS. What else can you do? Not much. So the best advice for you is to contact the nearest authorized maintainer and ask for help. Believe me that it is the best way to clarify all the issues you have with your laptop Portege.

    Good luck!
