Portege R500 stops automatically

Portege R500 stops automatically when it is connected to the power for a certain period.
It comes on Toshiba power cable and cable igo juice. Tends to happen when it's hot, with or without battery.

Yellow flashes 2 long, short 2, 1 x long, 3 short. Only way to reset is to subscribe to the battery and the power cable.
Occurred after be connected for some time and will work only on power outlet after a long wait.
Now the case more often, even if the connection to the laptop isn't hot.

This is the 3rd generation of this laptop I've had over the last 10 years and with the memory of mid-life upgrade, they seem to be very robust and this is the fundamental problem only that I have met.

Are there patches?

Hello

The blink code means that a hardware problem has been detected on the motherboard.
So I think this could be a hardware related issue and not an overheating problem
But nothing is impossible
You can try to clean the cooling fans/modules with a jet of compressed air
Would it help to remove dust from the computer laptop cooling grids
This workaround is useful if the laptop temperature is too high and the laptop stops automatically to avoid that the pieces of equipment against damage

Check and try

  • Portege R500 stops after idle period

    Hello
I have a R500 since March, a very annoying problem: when it is idle and I started working, the PC "awakens" and everything's fine. But after some time (1 minute, more or less) it automatically stops. I have disabled hibernation mode and it still happens.

A colleague with the same problem advised me to bios of grade of 1.5 to 1.6 (which I already have) and I still have the same problem. My helpdesk said the PC must be sent to Toshiba, but fact coleague one another with the same problem, and the problem remains. What should I do?

    It happens to someone else?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

    Hello

You need to check if the same happens with the new installed OS from the Toshiba Recovery disk

If it will happen again the laptop must be verified by an ASP in your country!

Sorry, but this is certainly not a common question and the laptop must be verified.

  • Portege R500 - stop with AuthenTec software installed

    I have a problem with R500 (PPR50E-06W011PL). I plug it nine January 4th, 2010.

In the order indicated in the manual, installed XP Pro and then all the drivers (lates available versions). I very quickly realized shutdown problems (sometimes with blue screen for less than a second) upon awakening from hibernation or same screen saver. It is in almost every second awakening. After reading all the info, I found this forum I decided to uninstall the AuthenTec fingerprint software. Since that time my R500 has never shutdowned itself and you must know that I Hibernate it several times every day. However, this isn't a solution because fingerprintreader software should work fine without cause OS problems.

Has anyone met with such a problem? If so, it has been resolved? How?

A installed WXP using Toshiba recovery facilities disk or your own version of Windows XP Home edition?

  • Portege R500 - utility of fingerprint stopped working

I have a laptop Portege R500. The utility of fingerprint stopped working. First (perhaps after an update of the real Suite Acess Manager was installed a few months ago) it did not work when connecting, but worked for the other passwords.

Now it doesn't work at all. If I try to record fingerprints, told me that he has failed to locate the sensor. I reinstalled the driver AES1610 and TrueSuite access manager, but it makes no difference.

In Device Manager it says the device is working. I looked at different threads on this without seeing something that works.

Hmm, maybe you should try to clean the registry once the fingerprint software has been uninstalled.

In your case, I would follow this:
-Uninstall fingerprint software and remove the fingerprint device in Device Manager.
    -restart the laptop
-clean the registry using the free tool called CCleaner
-Restart once again and install the software and driver
-Restart once again and test the functionality of fingerprint

    Welcome them

  • Portege R500 - Flashcard Toshiba has stopped working

    Hello

I get this error "Toshiba Flashcard has stopped working and will be closed" when I start my laptop Portege R500.
    What is the cause?

I'm running Vista and my PC continues to run even if it does.

    See you soon,.
    Elty

    Hello

It's not easy to say what causes this problem.
In most cases to other parts of the software may affect the functionality of different applications.
For example, my flash card stopped working after Vista ran some updates.

I simply removed the old VAP (value added package) of the system.
I cleaned the registry and the system using CCleaner (free tool) and reinstalled again the VAP.

    Now everything works fine.

I think you should try the same too.
Remove the VAP and installed as the new VAP downloaded from the page of European driver of Toshiba.

    Check it out!

  • Toshiba Portege R500 - external display display problem

At my work, we have a number of series laptops Toshiba Portege R500. All laptops are home in a Toshiba Slim Port Replicator II. Laptops are all running a version of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 applied (and of course a few customization business).

The problem is with the display on the external monitor. The laptop starts according to the normal and connects to the fine. The Fn + F5 key and so we can switch between the external LCD screen and the laptop monitor. We can also extend the desktop on the external monitor without problem.

The problem is that when the disconnection of the laptop computer to the port replicator, when the laptop is brought back, the display of the external monitor does not display anything. The monitor receives a signal that we don't get errors about "cable disconnected" etc. By bike by Fn + F5, the monitor will go to sleep (as the adjustment is only to be on the laptop screen). By pressing Fn + F5 again, the monitor seems to wake up but there is no display on the external monitor.

The only resolution we have found because so far, it's to stop & restart the laptop and the external screen works again. However detach and the problem occurs again.

Thought this might be a driver problem or a problem of Toshiba Utilities, so have updated the drivers accordingly. The drivers installed by default are the Intel 945 Express 6.14.10.4837 driver version. I tried to update the drivers for the next version (using drivers from the Web from Toshiba site) and changes to the version of the driver 6.14.10.4631. I also tried the Intel driver version 14324.

I also installed the Toshiba screen utilities and shortcut keys to see if this may have an effect, but unfortunately not. I also tried to change the BIOS settings for the display of 'Automatic Selection' to LCD + CRT RGB, and once again it has no effect. I also tried several configurations in the "display settings" does not.

Is this just a design problem? Is anyway to fix that?

    Hello

I Portege R500 in front of me with the same port replicator and 21 "Toshiba TFT display (connected to the DVI port on the Port Replicator).

Please open "Toshiba Mobile Extension" utility (you can find it in Control Panel), then click on the second tab > change of display service.
If please activate this service and choose your preferred display output.

I tested it 10 minutes ago and it works perfectly.

    Good bye

  • Where can I find XP x 64 drivers for Portege R500 - hotkey / power management?

Where can I find the downloads that will enable the power management or hotkey support for my Portege R500?

I already installed the drivers for everything except the fingerprint reader (do not want), tpm (really envy) and hdd (tos620a) motion sensor (not embarrassed at this time). Most of the drivers are recent original sites of the seller or, in the absence of those, leaving Toshiba 64-bit Vista download areas.

Everything else works generally: wifi, graphics & chipset, sound, lan, bluetooth stack, cardbus, card reader, etc.

However, after doing this, are the following questions:

FN keys do not work for suspend to ram, suspend-to-disk, * screen * brightness *-essential to extend the life. FN keys for digital/Board pad, rocker of external surveillance * work

Dedicated toggle backlight button does nothing

However, in order to get the lifetime of battery beyond ~2.5 hours and closest alongside 7.1 hours, I need to turn things down / stop occasionally. What software can help and where I can get, as it runs on Windows XP x 64 edition?

    Note:

I tried packages of 32-bit xp which provides Toshiba, they do not seem to work on x 64. The package 'chopsticks' requires 'cmod', but 'cmod' gives this error:

    Installation of Modules common TOSHIBA
Not an ACPI machine. Cannot install TOSHIBA ACPI peripheral logic.
    Ok

I tried the 32-bit xp package called 'pwrsav '; It installs a bad help link in my Start menu and adds a few exes, tpsmain and tpsoddctl, to my automatically starts. These 32-bit executables left immediately after execution.

I tried to install packages of 64-bit Vista from Toshiba hotkeys / common modules / power management, but the only one of the three I can find via toshiba.co.uk is the common modules, and unfortunately this zip file contains only .inf, .cat and .sys files, no program installation.

    Motivation:
I use a new installation at the same time because the default installation of Vista is unusable (900 MB of memory used on a fresh startup desktop, disk divided into several partitions, trial, adware and with broken software at left and right)
I use x 64 because I am software engineer the next product needs to work on x 64, and this new laptop was a likely first candidate

    Hello

    Bad news first :(

The European driver Toshiba page provides the drivers for XP 32 bit and Vista (32-bit & 64-bit).
I did find all the drivers for XP 64-bit OS.

As much as I know XP 64-bit drivers is not exist for one of the series of Toshiba laptops.

    Now a new better ;)

I found a tool called display Tuner.
It offers convenient access to the monitor settings, such as brightness, contrast, color settings.

Perhaps this is an option for you.
    Google a bit

  • Portege R500 - Bad optical drive delays the start - how to fix?

The Portege R500 has recently begun does not start. Initially there not some time later, frequently. By chance, I discovered that if I left alone for a minute or two, he will continue to start. That and the noise coming from the optical driver, made me suspect the problem was not with the HARD drive, as I feared at first, but with the optical driver.

I read in the thread below that other people had this problem. MrBear mentions * I pulled it out again and pushed on the Ribbon connecting the CD-ROM to make sure they were safe. Turned on again and he pulled up without problem! *

    Link: [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=43300&tstart=0]

Could someone clarify in what ribbons must be treated? Only those who are visible by opening the drive? Or it is necessary to open the notebook?

Furthermore, if I booted into Windows, it stopped again, for a minute or two, while Windows is loading. With Ubuntu, there is no such problem. Perhaps Windows tries to communicate with the optical driver for some reason any.

    Tnaks for any help!
    Leonardo

    Hello!

Is your laptop still under warranty? If so I put t understand why you try to solve the problem by yourself. Go to the nearest EPA and ask a technician for help. These guys are very useful and they have the most experience on laptop repairs.

On the Toshiba site, you can search the nearest ASP:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported downloads & => find an authorized service provider

And the problem with Windows, it is difficult to tell why Windows stops for a minute. Maybe it s a software problem so disable all programs that you start n t need in msconfig.

  • Portege R500 USB Extrenal HARD drive question

Recently, my boss bought a Portege R500 and I installed Win XP SP2.

    Installed all necessary drivers.

It is, if I connect an external USB HDD's does not detect and I use the laptop after having removed the USB HDD applications hang up and it wont even stop.

Can someone share a light on this problem?

    Thank you.

It is not easy to share a lot of light on it. Who is the manufacturer of this external HARD drive? You have a software with this HARD drive that needs to be installed first?

  • Portege R500 - CD/DVD drive no longer works

Does anyone found a resolution to this?

Like David, my DVD Multidrive on my R500 abruptly arrested recently - I can open/close the player, but he does not appear in Windows Explorer as a disk is valid. Do not think that I have nothing installed on the machine.

Interestingly, I never really use the DVD player. Indeed, because of all the * heat * questions, I used to "Power Off" of the device, via the DVD icon in the system tray (i.e. option enabled me to Power on / off the unit). So while the power was OFF, it's cold the machine, and so the fan was rarely on.

Now that my computer no longer recognizes the drive, this icon it simply shows that disabled, no possibility to the power on/off switch, and this noisy fan is almost always on. In addition, because it seems that the machine tries to recognize the drive subject time at startup, all re-start, reboot the machine now takes a few minutes to start...

For the optical drive firmware update help? Or is there some other fix?

    Hello

    > but my Portege R500 CD/DVD drive has stopped working the next day, I had attached an external CD - RW drive for me to burn discs. Maybe it did disable my built-in drive?
    This could be the key;
Try to access the Device Manager and remove the CD/DVD player listed and all USB host controllers and USB root hub.

    Again, restart the laptop.
After new check restart if the CD/DVD drive has been recognized again.

  • Portege R500 and Novatel Modem 3G on Windows 7

    Hello

someone have a solution for getting the Modem 3 G build-in novatel works on Windows 7 in a Portege R500?

I tried to install the driver for Vista 32 bit on my W7-Ultimate32bit. I have tried this driver:

    http://de.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/Tracker.jsp?file=http%3A%2f%2fsupport1.toshiba-tro.de%2ftedd-files2%2F0%2fwmb-20071115155201.zip

What do I have to wait for a W7 driver?

I think so. You can try to use the Vista driver but there is no guarantee for correct material work.
I think that Win7 drivers will be available soon.

  • Portege R500: Explorer crashes cured by installing the Driver Sound R600

The equipped Portege R500 of Vista is a great phone except that mine Windows Explorer (not IE) kept crashing without obvious reason. The taskbar would suddenly become unresponsive and then I would get the opportunity to restart Explorer. "Problem Reports and Solutions" shows 129 these events in the 44 weeks since I bought it, and it is not my main computer, so I don't use it every day

In any case, I think I found a solution which is to replace the R500 Realtek Sound Driver (version 6.0.1.5400) by the one for the R600 (version 6.0.5655). Since doing the crash seems to have stopped.

The idea was that almost all of the events in question 'AppHangXProcB1', ' waiting on the name of the Application: svchost.exe:AudioClientRpc', and ' bucket ID: 157806391'. Research put in question the Realtek Sound driver and revealed many reports indicate that a similar problem with other laptops.

The original version 6.0.1.5400 is still topical for R500 according to European and us sites Toshiba. However, the R600 version is 6.0.5655 dated dated 17/11/2008. As the R500 and R600 so similar I installed and have had no accidents since then. Previously I tried to upgrade to version 6.0.1.5624 (from Windows Update on 2009-03-04) and 6.0.1.5477, which Toshiba Canada for the R500 question, but they were no better than 6.0.1.5400.

I haven't noticed any bad Effect to have the pilot of 'bad '. Of course, it would be nice to have advice from Toshiba on this and to know if other people have had similar problems with their R500, but in the meantime, it's great to be able to use it without the bar all the time freezing of tasks.

    Hi Johnson

Thanks for this report. This is the solution and the very interesting question.
Let's see if someone else will report on the same or similar topic.

To be honest, I can't imagine that Windows Explorer may hang so easy with the settings.
All the preinstalled images are tested and if there is a serious problem you need to Toshiba. But anything is possible.

  • Portege R500 - fingerprint reader and SD card reader does not work

    Hello

I hope someone can help me.

I bought an opportunity Portege R500 (the warranty is still available until 12/2010) and set up with Windows 7 Home Premium.

I installed all the drivers for Windows 7 from the specific model support page. Driver Vista have been installed for all drivers, which are not available in Windows 7.

If everything works fine, except the fingerprint reader and the sd card slot.

Fingerprints: I tried al a lot of drivers, even that of the R600 and R700 (such as proposed by someone here in the forum). When I run the Toshiba fingerprint utility, a text box tells me, that there is no connection with the sensor. Authentc software does not work either.

SD card reader: I tried several SD cards from a card SD 2 GB simple and old (but functional) Kingston. According to the Director of devicce, the driver is correctly installed and running.
The blue icon next to wireless light turns on and after a "long", a message box appears and asks me to format the card. It takes a little longer and then I get the massage, the card cannot be formatted. I tried the same procedure with a SDHC card 4 GB and a Micro SDHC card in a SD card adapter. Then of course the cards are identified but not usable and formatted.

There are several reports of other users of the internet, the locations of sd card in computer models laptops different toshiba have problems under Windows 7.

The two problems have emerged as well under Vista. My hope was, this upgrade to Win 7 solve poverty. Unfortunately remain the problems of th I have Win 7.

    Thanks in advance,

    Michael (Germany)

    Thanks for the feedback second
By the way; It is a forum for user to user in this community, everyone is trying to help everyone, so if someone wants to say that he would be able to help, then you will get a response from such user maybe you should also pass a few simple threads in this forum and might help other users as well?

Tip; BIOS update and setting BIOS by default (with F9) can solve many problems... it's worth a try...

By the way; Win 7 is able to update the drivers automatically. I recommend that you run an update in Device Manager and let windows search for the update.

I ve got another laptop and installed Win 7 as well. The card reader Vista driver has worked for me on Win 7 OS just a tip
