Portege R700 - 11G - high and annoying fan noise

Dear friends:

I have a Portege R700 - 11G, I bought only two weeks ago.

The computer works fine, except for the high and annoying fan noise.

Even do nothing, only to start and sometimes in the bios Setup, the fan is always turn with a temperature of 40 ° or 50.

I've updated the BIOS and I don't know what to do.

Can someone help me please?
Thank you very much.

Hi mate

Please check the settings in the Windows 7 power management!

There you can optimize the CPU and cooling performance module this should help reduce heat dissipation and fan speed.

In addition I recommend upgrading the Toshiba Fingerprint Software immediately to the version V1.0.2.32 or higher. In addition, turn off the power save option of fingerprint device in Device Manager.

Device Manager->-> authentic Tec Inc AES1610-> the power management of biometric devices

Here, you will have to remove the mark next to the option called allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Disable the power saving mode will reduce the life of the battery, so you can check whether or not it helps reduce noise.

  • Portege R700, Windows 7, mounted sudden fan/cpu, freeze and force stop

    Hello

I have a persistent problem that starts to become annoying... Portege 700 running Windows 7. Normal use (office, WMP, IE anything heavy)

No apparent reason (no new requests started for example), there is a sudden increase in the speed of the fan which should be max (looks it takes off) and I suspect use of the processor at the same time. And it's that it's not simply to stop (I left for awhile on occasion) and does not match an input (keyboard or mouse). The only 'solution' is to use the power button to force a shutdown. (And then I lose all cookies etc. when starting again).

I did a lot of Googling on that. Thought it was WMP network sharing Service and has taken measures to see, but have recently disabled that service and still the problem occurs... (I checked that it is always disabled when just rebooted).

I keep as 'clean' as I can (have AV installed, use ccleaner regularly etc etc) so would be surprised if a virus/worm, but am running a scan again just in case...

This happens quite often be a pain - and I have no idea what is the cause, if any ideas gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I m no owner on the site Web of Toshiba Portege R700 but I found an article that describes EXACTLTY the same problem. High activity of its use and CPU fan, then it freezes :(
Here is the link to this article:

As you can see, update the fingerprint software could help get rid you of this problem. :)

It will be difficult to address this issue on the forum.

Look closely at what will happen in the future, and if this keeps happening again and again I recommend you contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • Equium A200 - annoying fan noise

    Hello

I have a Satellite A200 - 26 d and the fan is almost always on regardless of what I do. I find that very annoying because he is so strong and change the power plan settings doesn't seem to work. The fan starts with a kind of quiet Growl every 20 seconds or so just for a few seconds and it's rather boring. Any help on setting when the fan turns on, or an explanation of the question to know if this is normal or not would be great.

Any help would be great because it's driving me bananas, thanks v more.

Try to change the parameters of the method of cooling. Test it by using the battery optimized in combination with the balanced power option. I must say that I am convinced with this combination on my Satellite P200 laptop big.

  • Satellite A500-025 - high and loud fan with some vibrations

MY new Toshiba has its fan cooling at the top with a vibration when I turn on the computer first.
After about a minute the fan speed goes down as does the noise and vibration of the fan.

Y at - it a bios upgrade or adjustment on the A500-025 to prevent this?
It almost looks like when you first turn it on, the fan setting is high then then adjusts.

    Thank you.

    > Y at - it a bios upgrade or adjustment on the A500-025 to prevent this?
    > It seems that when you first turn it on, the fan setting is high then then adjusts.

This happens in my portable fans too and as much as I know there is nothing unusual
This does not happen always, but each time when the laptop fell very long and if the temperature is higher

I think that fans run faster for a few seconds to release the dirt among the cooling modules and calibrate the speed once again
I wouldn't be worried is this fan behaviour maintained only for a few seconds

    Welcome them

  • Satellite L555-10R - annoying fan noise

For a long time, I ve been having this problem with my laptop: when I have a Skype video call, watch TV Online, or sometimes with video files, the fan also sounds as he works hard, and the people I have video calls with also complain that they heard this annoying noise.

But lately it has gotten worse, and sometimes the laptop stops. I guess it's a kind of defence against overheating, mechanism (?)

How to deal with this problem?

    Hello

If you have this problem for a long time, why you didn t contacted Toshiba service and clarify this?

  • BIOS update solved the Portege M400 fan noise

The new version of BIOS (1.8) for Portege M400 solves the problem of fan noise. The Readme.txt explains that the temperature will rise only in three degrees. Very important, very recommended patch for users of M400.

Now I can use my tablet in my business meetings without having to give explanations to customers of the fan noise.

    Greetings.

    Hello Jose

It is very nice to hear that you are happy now. I read your previous assignments and I can understand you this annoying issue with cooling fan, but now you can see this laptop manufacturer is trying to make the product better, even if the product is on the market.

I am also certain that customer s comments can help identify the problem if persist und after this systematic search for the solution or change for the better.

  • Satellite L650 1NC - the fan noise

I bought the laptop in February 2011 and the fan noise deteriorated over time, now. I've read many threads in this forum and elsewhere about this problem and I think that the problems are basically the same.

Now that I've read some that messages stating that the new BIOS, released in September have apparently solved the problem, I did a BIOS update (Version 2.3) to meet the same problem again.

The fan stops when the temperature is below a certain threshold, in my case according to CoreTemp it seems to be at about 50-55 ° C. At the moment the fan turns off, which is also confirmed by the monitor of health indicating the 0% fan speed.
This leads to the CPU temperature increases until the fan is used to about 55-60% fanspeed.
This process repeats every 15-20 seconds and is very annoying.

It gets worse, but if I start to actually do something like a request to open from the web browser - nothing serious, really, I don't want to start even complain about the noise while game/watch movies.
The fan speed will be 70-75% as soon as the CPU gets the work to be done.
The noise that results is unacceptable for 20-30 seconds.

Noise is an important factor for me. At the University I can't use it as my fellow students are too distracted by its noise. To work my colleagues began to complain as well.
As I use my cell phone while being out of my own office/home it is basically useless for me now.

Has anyone else still issues after the recent updates to the BIOS?
Is there a way to put the fan always runs at around 30-40%?

    All opinions are appreciated.

    Hello

Cooling module performance depend on the internal temperature.
If the temperature arise at a higher level, the fan must turn more quickly to prevent equipment overheating it's usual behavior.

But you can try to change some Windows 7 power management settings.
This will reduce the performance of the CPU and the dissipation of the heat and that should slow down the activity of the fan too.

Here is instruction how to change the Windows 7 power management.

  • Portege R700: Cannot use the two SVGA HDMI on the Port PA3838E-1PRP Port Replicator

    Dear all,

    I have a Portege R700 series (PT311E) and a high speed P/N PA3838E-1PRP port replicator.

Today, I tried to connect two external monitors on the VGA port and the second HDMI port replicator port.
Unfortunately, I was not able to configure the laptop / duplicator to * work with external monitors stand *.

Do not work in this way portable stand and port replicator becomes useless.
Although it is a default installation on other products manufactured without drivers and special parameters will be needed, I hope that in our case a key combination or a driver may resolve this problem.

To be even more precise, I don't want to also use the laptop screen. I want to just connect laptop closed and turned off in the duplicator, to turn on the laptop the power button of the port replicator and to have the image on two external monitors.

Thank you for your quick responses,

    Best regards

    Cristian

    Hello

    What R700-xxx you have exactly?

How to connect two monitors? Are the two monitors connected only to the Port Replicator or is one of the monitor connected to the laptop and the other monitor is connected to the duplicator?

    Could you please post this?

I'm not quite sure of HDMI and Port Replicator (PA3838E-1PRP) but many laptops equipped with support DVI dual video output (VGA and DVI) port using Advanced Port Replicator III (PA3314E-1PRP) or Advanced Port Replicator III more (PA3474E-1PRP).
But this is only possible if the laptop itself supports the simultaneous use of RGB & DVI too.

  • Equium M50 - 164 acute fan noise

Everytime I open Windows Media Player or watch a website with macromedia/flash points the fan on my laptop makes a constant high pitched noise. Performance is not affected. After the closure of media player or Web site open the noise stops. I ran directx diag tool, during the program execution the high-pitched noise returned, who ceases once more on closing the program.

The noise is really irritating, especially when you try to work in a quiet room.

What is a directx problem or my fan/graphics card damaged?

I recently had the hard drive replaced by PC World.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello

The fan is operating normally or it lights up when you launch these programs resulting from the noise. If it is turned on constantly, but running at low SPEED, then when you play these file types kicking at the speed higher and made these noises, I would say that the fan is defective and must be replaced. Take the computer to your nearest service provider and let them take a look.

Chances are when it is running normally that low revs are not deployed noise. But once he goes to the next level and really starts to expel some rpm and makes noise, it's because of some bearings dry in the fan.

    I hope this helps you.

  • The Pavilion S3120N fan noise

After that Hp replaced the motherboard under the extended warranty, because one quiet old work, I now have a very high sound level because the processor cooling fan runs at high speed for most.

Talk to the HP support brought no solution, it's just frustrating. According to them there is no relationship between the change of the motherboard and the fan noise. We had the computer for two years and had no problems with that, in fact we where he is very happy that the computer was running on these levels to low noise constantly.

I was search the HP solutions provides on the middle section of solution, also without success, even after the update of BIOS, change the power settings in Windows etc... After opening the envelope, it appears, they have changed the cooling with the motherboard fan. He now has an installed Taisol fan unit, which seems to be the problem with the noise level. This instrument will create just more noise, and since I can expect not any help more HP, on it, I'm looking into replacing the unit of my self with a calm. Anyone out there with a similar problem and a solution for this?

Thanks for the thought, I managed to fix it myself. Pretty embarrassing for the workshop to repair HP actually, all I had to do was reinstall the fan on top of the processor. They need had installed it so that the fan was a little out of whack, in order to not cool properly or does not correctly recorded temperature. After the seizure of the device, to see if there is anything wrong with the base, I just applied again past the heat at the base and screw them on. I made sure that the four screws that hold in place cooling unit are linked on the cross.

Now I can run the computer at full load and almost never have the noise level that I had before.

What frustrates me is the fact, that hotline HP never even considered that there could be a problem with the installation or even assuming that there is a relationship between the replacement of the motherboard and the problem of noise that I was complaining. The people I spoke with, including the supervisor of technical support, when he is very eager to sell me a warranty plan extended, rather than listening to my problem. Well this isn't the right place to start even on this issue, but some things need to be said. Treat your customers with more respect and make sure you listen to the explanations out there, after all we all suck when it comes to computers!

  • MacBook Pro fan noise

    Hello

I just upgraded two things at the same time (not wise, I know) and is now experiencing the high fan noise when using Lightroom.

I moved from a MacBook Air to a MacBook Pro (i7 at 2.5 Ghz, 16 GB of RAM) and an instant running most CC Lightroom 2015 2.1.

When I soak in the Module Development, rendered previews or export files, I have an almost immediately 200-300% CPU usage and the fan noise high, something that never used to get on the air. It's almost embarrassing if I work with journalists around me who just typing away quietly. I made sure, face detection and LR Mobile are turned off, but is there anything else I can do or is it normal? Attempted to return air to be honest because I believe that there is a responsibility...

    Thank you

    Paul

It is absolutely normal for a Macbook Pro to get very hot and run the fan when high-performance computing applications are running.  Check out these articles from Apple support on the use of the processor app, fans and heat:

  • Portege R700 - cannot update the BIOS

    Hello
I recently bought a Portege R700 19 M and I downloaded the latest BIOS version available in the Toshiba support page and when I run the .exe file, it does not work with this message: "the computer is not supported.
And when I look in the HWSetup Toshiba tool, it does not display the BIOS version but some weird characters (letters not usual) so I can't find out which version is installed.
    Thank you for your help

    Hey Buddy,

You update the BIOS to the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba?
Are you logged on as administrator when you try the update?

To be honest I doubt a problem to update the BIOS because I found other threads where users report that BIOS update was successful.

  • Portege R700 - high CPU fan noise

    Hello

I own the Canadian version of the Portege R700, called Tecra R700 (PT319C-00E002).
The CPU fan always runs between 43 percent and 51 percent (regardless of the mode of selected frequency), which makes the noisy computer - too noisy to be used comfortably, too noisy to be used at meetings of air-conditioned silent.

The fan seems to be controlled by the BIOS, as well as applications such as SpeedFan are unnecessary. Is there a way to fix this?

    Kind regards.

    Hi dernierrecours,

    > CPU fan always running between 43 percent and 51 percent (regardless of the selected frequency mode)
This means that the fan runs always at the same level regardless cooling method that you can choose in Windows power management?

Well, have you tried updating the BIOS? The latest version is installed?
Check out the Toshiba page for an update.

  • Portege R700 - high pitched noise

I have a high pitched noise of my Portege R700 - 11 p. The noise is in the upper range of the sound signal (perhaps around 15'000 Hz) and is regularly increasing and decreasing at a rate of about 0.5 Hz. He is always there that if the laptop is plugged into the power source and sleep, this is sometimes if the laptop is connected and running and he faints immediately if I plug off the coast. The noise seems to come from the upper left corner of the laptop. It is not very strong, but clearly audible and quite annoying after awhile. Someone knows why this noise and any opportunity to get rid of it?
    Thanks, Martin

    Hey,.

There are already two threads on this high pitched noise in the forum. Please check these threads, it should be useful and interesting:
