Portege R700 webcam goes dark in low light conditions

Hello

Since I bought my Toshiba Portege R700 about a year ago I had problems with my webcam. I looked in several forums but couldn't find an answer. My build in webcam has problems of adaptation in the light of the room.

When the room is dimly lit camera turns almost black after a few seconds. It is interesting enough before the camera darkens, he manages to produce a picture is ok for a few seconds, which means that the camera is capable of producing an image ok in low light conditions.

She has just problems adjusting the brightness in the room when it is poorly lit. I propose to toshiba update the software of the camera, since it is clearly a matter of software. And yes I've tried every single possible configuration for the camera! And Yes, I also reinstalled (several times) the camera driver.

I know that the camera performs well in places that have good lighting and so I'm only interested in improving my performance of cameras when not much light is available.

Thank you very much
Clem

Hi dude

I understand that you would expect webcam great performance in poor light environment but I put t do you think it would be possible to get the good quality photo using the laptop is dark rooms.

The material of these small internal cams is limited and you see the same issues with other devices like smartphones cameras that resemble the internal cams s notebook.

In addition, the webcam software that is preinstalled on my laptop Toshiba supports the night mode option that allows you to improve the quality of the obscure image in the Middle but of course you will not get the same image quality if you want to use the cam in the luminous environment

  • SLog2 in low light conditions

Hello, hoping for some advice please. What about the slog2 being wonderful shooting large latitudes in broad daylight and in situations where preserving highlights important - is fair to say then that slog2 so not ideal for low light dark environments?

That is to say, if the ideal place for shades of skin and the gray card is at 30-33 with slog2, then in the dark light scenarios / low we lose many details in shadows etc that might otherwise be exposed to.

We therefor more easy shooting with hyper gamma or curves standard to allocate more data to the shadow and thus pull complexion and gray at 40-50 IRE and keep sLog2 of shooting for higher latitude stuff? Or are there benefits for your stay on slog2 all the time if you're happy to be ranking images in any case post?

I think I know the answer here, but I was hoping to get some thoughts to this certain f55/5 users that pass between the curves according to the scenarios.

I do not have a raw box with my f55 kit, so I'm looking forward to stretch and control capabilities in camera and latitude, as much as I can.

    Thank you

What you're missing is that with the S - Log, and using the good LUT in post, these shadow detail who look as if they were in the mud in the eyepiece arose at appropriate levels. There are more bits (steps of BRIGHTNESS) in the shade to be "brought back to the top" in post.

The only drawback is that it does not relieve a little noise. If you want to keep the same level of noise as a Hypergamma, just expose it to IE even as a Hypergamma (500, 600, etc.). You better stay right in S-Log2/SGamut and exposing more hot (that is to say 600ISO) and lose this stop on the high end.

Mixing and matching SLog/Sgamut with hypergammas would be a nightmare for a colorist. They don't look not anywhere close to the same thing, and they do not meet the colors even. I didn't do it.

  • Portege R700 - Webcam is either disabled or has not

    Hello

When I clicked on Camera Assistant Software I get this error: "webcam is either disabled or has failed." Please check your webcam settings. »

can someone help me on this?

    Thank you

    Hi Sam,

Hmm probably it s just a driver failure. Have you tried reinstalling the driver for the webcam? You can download the latest version on the Web from Toshiba site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com

In your case I would remove the current webcam software and restart the computer. Install the webcam software downloaded from the Toshiba page, and then restart your computer.

Can you confirm s works now?

  • Portege R700 - 1 DL built in Webcam

    Hello world

How can I access the built-in Webcam in my Portege R700 with third party software Polycom PVX, for example, in the control panel of this software, I can choose the webcam of toshiba as a video device, but it does not work (no image)

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hello

To be honest, I've never heard of this problem, but if you want to use the webcam with external software such as Skype, you must first close the webcam software. Example of webcam starts with Windows and that you should close it before starting, it is a 3rd party program.

  • Portege R700 internal to screen very dark but can use the external monitor

    Hi guys,.

just had a question about my Toshiba Portege R700 as the screen went white and I couldn't see the screen or sometimes I could and it was very dark!

However, the laptop could start up as normal and I could use it normally through an external display!

Subsequently, I replaced the screen and it started working again (happy days)!
However, a few weeks down the line the same problem again apparently did screen dies.

I take off again and disconnect and reconnect the screen just to see if that would solve the problem and he did, back and working again. I even tried the old screen I swapped and that works too!
So I paid £140 + for a new screen that I didn't need, my question is what is the problem?

Could not find anything else on this topic so would appreciate any help thanks

    Hello

It is difficult to say what might be wrong here usually black screen can be related to a faulty FL inverter.
But laptop computer s display supports a backlight Led FL inverter should not be a problem here
Maybe some loose contacts caused this

  • Cannot use 8 GB in Portege R700

    Hello

    I had 2 x 2 GB PC3 10600 ram in my R700 (i3) running Windows 7 x 64.

I have a few sticks of 4 GB of ram, I wanted to update my laptop 8 GB total.

I put in the memory which consists of:
    1 x 4 GB PC3 12800
    1 x 4 GB PC3 10600

The laptop comes on the screen where it says "Starting Windows" and looks like it freezes before windows animation.

If I try to use 1 x 4 GB (two speeds) and 1 x 2 GB, then Windows starts fine, but there is a problem when I use both the 4 GB sticks.

I tested the ram with Memtest and they pass the tests.

If I put the bars of 4 GB of RAM in a R840 (Windows 8.1 Pro), it starts very well.
If I put the bars of 4 GB of RAM in a R700 (i5 running Windows 8.1 Pro), this also starts very well.

If I try to put in the sticks of 2 x 4 GB of ram in the R700 i3 and trying to install Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 then happens to the screen that says "Windows is loading files" and the progress bar ends but then the screen goes all white and the fan runs but nothing else happens.

I have 8 GB of ram in the R700 i3, so I don't know that it supports. The BIOS detects it has 8 GB of ram when I inserted them and the BIOS is updated to the latest version which is 2.20 iirc.

Anyone can shed light on the problem?

    Hi Borito

If the specification states that your model of laptop can handle with 8 GB of RAM, that we should not discuss this topic.
By RAM upgrade is important to use 100% compatible and two modules of identical RAM (same specifications).
I tested it on my machine using too much standard and a cheap RAM and my machine was dead. With two modules of identical RAM, everything is OK.

Can you please send the name of the exact model of your laptop Portege (R700-xxx) and I'll try to find the exact reference for 4 GB of RAM for this model of laptop.

  • Portege R700 - external DVD Player compatibility

I have a problem with a Samsung external super-multi drive 2 year with my new Portege R700-1F3, which does not come with a DVD player. The USB powered Samsung dvd player works fine with all other computers that I have access to:
    * MacBook with OS X 10.5
    * Samsung NP - X 360 laptop computer with Windows XP 32-bit
    * Dell Inspiron Zino HD computer desktop with Windows 7 64 bit

    The symptoms are:
    * When the dvd player is plugged in Portege, the green light on the dvd player goes on and out.
    * This happens in the BIOS, and once that Windows 7 32-bit support.
    * In Control Panel Windows 7 devices & printers, the DVD alternately appear & disappear constantly.
    * When it appears, it shows up as "USB storage device" with a yellow! warning icon.

I tried all 3 USB ports. The power cable is plugged Portege. I tried the turn of the digital signature when starting upwards. The external dvd came free with my old laptop from Samsung and is the model AA-ES0N09B.

Any suggestion that this is a hardware or software problem and how to fix it?

    Thank you
    Lola

    Hi Lola,.

Have you tried other USB devices on your Portege R700 if they work properly?

If peripheral USB do some problems I would try to remove the USB ports from the Device Manager (right click > uninstall) and restart your computer. After that, the USB ports will be recognized again and you are able to use them.

If it doesn t help I would try a driver update from the official website of Toshiba chipset. http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/

  • Portege R700 does not illuminate

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Portege R700. The last day or two he was intermittently showing battery low message power when it is connected to the electric network. This morning, he made similarly then closes.

I put him in charge, but now it does not start if I press the power button (nothing happens). If I unplug the power cord, press the power button, nothing happens. If I remove the battery then replace it, then press the power button, the fan starts momentarily and the screen lights up showing the "Toshiba leading innovation" then it shuts down. I hope that makes sense! I d be very grateful for any advice or opinion.

    Thank you very much.

What happens when you remove the battery and try to start the laptop with AC power only?

  • Temperature of the system at 90 c in Portege R700

When I turn on my Portege R700 and immediately open the Toshiba PC health program (monitoring sensors) it shows the temperature of CPU either very low, of course, while the temperature of the system is already at 90 C.

As a result (I think but I could be wrong) the fan runs at almost maximum speed.
The situation does not change in time: rest CPU temperature generally less 40 c, the temperature of system at 90 c, fan still spinning fast.

Is this normal? The cooling test program says everything is fine.

    Daniele

You should try to perform a cleanup of laptop:

    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/Ann.jspa?annID=40

    > Toshiba PC (sensors monitoring) health program it shows the very low CPU temperature

Hmm... If it shows that the temperature is low, but it goes up to 90 C, means do not work properly. Reinstall it, but before complete cooling system cleaning

  • Portege R700-19 t - new RAM-> start is no longer

    Hello together,

so I bought two new RAM sticks for my old laptop
    Toshiba Portege R700-19 t

But since I installed them, the machine does not start in an operating system more.
The installed Windows 7 64 bit goes to a black screen before the windows at Startup logo (even in safe mode). And after a few seconds, the fans will quickly but nothing seems to happen.

The next thing I tried was a (12.04) ubuntu live dvd. But it does not either. No error message or anything, just an automatic restart after a few seconds of black screen.

    The next thing was memtest86 + v4.20:
It crashes immediately sometimes a black screen and sometimes at this http://i.imgur.com/eJqIyDp.jpg .
I tested my new two sticks together and alone, still the same problem. The old ones that work perfectly and not crash of memtest.

In the BIOS is the only thing on the memory and then it sees the correct "Total memory size 8192 MB.

    Plug portable-mem from toshiba:

In my understanding of both new sticks should work well with my laptop, or am I missing something?

    concerning

For me, the question is clear enough; the laptop does not start because of new RAM modules.

The new RAM modules are not totally compatible, or the RAM modules are defective.

I recommend you test an other modules; for example modules manufactured by Kingston.

  • Portege R700 - Malware with software pre-installed?

I recently bought a Portege R700 - very well designed and built with an excellent specification. All is let down by the obnoxious behavior of collusion with Microsoft to send malicious software in the software loaded from Toshiba. It is absolutely inexcusable and unacceptable to load software that removes several times my IE8 homepage settings to replace it with MSN and the bling search engine. I hope I've stalked finally how to remove this MALWARE by editing the registry and delete the entries of thugs.

(Especially from Toshiba) anyone know how I can ensure it is permanently deleted?

Can someone give me a good reason why I should not report this behavior for the Commissioners of the European Union for violation of the antitrust settlement with Microsoft?

    I am completely disgusted.

    Hello

To be honest, I never heard malware with software/OS preinstalled Toshiba or Microsoft.
I m sure all software that will run are tested for the virus, malware, etc. so I put t think you have malicious software installed on your computer.

I also use the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba on my two laptops and all the settings, I've defined in IE8 or other programs have never changed.

I recommend to install an antivirus program before going online.
