Ports in firewall for VMware Converter 3.0.3

Hello

We have ESX 3.5 Update 2 and we use VMware Converter 3.0.3

What firewall ports must be open on the firewall of ESX for this converter?

Hello

  • Which TCP port is used for VMWare Infrastructure Client?

Hello, my ESXi server sits on the private network, and I'm trying to PAT so that I can access the external network using VMWare Infrastructure Client Server. Does anyone know what port is VMWare Infrastructure Client listen? Thank you.

    Priscilla

Do the external network for VMware NAT

I guess you mean that your server is located in the internal network and Client is on the outside.

If the customer does not have to "listen" for connections it opens TCP ports - HI 1024-65535 to servers as follows.

Servers (including GSX) TCP ports: 8222, 8333, 902

If you have ESX (i) then TCP ports: 80, 443, 902

  • What NAT ports in the firewall for VMware View Server Security?

We have a Cisco ASA and I wonder what are the ports I need NAT from the outside to the Security Server?  I'm assuming that port 443, but don't know if this is correct or if maybe other ports must be open.

  • Suggestions for VMware Converter running on internet

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a bit of advice

Currently using VMware Workstation 9 and things go a lot, I P2V had a couple of local machines on the network using the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client (5.1) and had no problems at all.

What I am looking to do now however turns out to be somewhat difficult.

I have a web/database server located in a data center I want P2V. The server is running Windows 2008 Server R2 edition and I can connect to the server by using remote desktop. I have access to the firewall on the server (it has the default value / built in Windows Firewall) and I have access to the firewall at the office here.

The server is limited to space, two as physical disks:

C: 30 GB (2.7 GB of free space)

    D: 16GB (5.1 GB of free space)

The lack of local disk space naturally prevents me from running the P2V and storing the img locally then uploading via FTP or similar.

Therefore, I would ask what are my options...

It would be possible to try to perform the P2V of Office (bandwidth is 30 MB downstream, 3 MB upstream)?  If so, what preconditions would be necessary regarding the firewall ports or maybe even of VPN connections?

Any other suggestions on how best to P2V this machine would be welcome

    Just a quick update.

Yesterday I installed on the server, I wanted to P2V, then using a client computer local win7 I connected via VPN to the RRAS server (ironically, the customer of Win7 is a virtual machine). With VPN in place, I did a full installation of the stand-alone converter on the host server and the client computer. I then had the server to connect to the Win7 machine and set the P2V process.

9 hours and 58 minutes later it was over and I now the P2V is the machine running here on my computer 9.

It seems that the impossible is indeed possible

  • Ports and Destination for VMware View Client

    Hi all

I'm looking for a quick bit of help if possible please...

    Environment: VMware View 4.5

    Question / Info needed:

Two companies having a bond of trust between data transfer etc. and resources share. We need access to a site through their firewall in the bond of trust to connect to the VMware View VDI Office.  Customers using VMware View Client.

The question is, if we get the site to enable port 443 to our broker connection I assume this will not be enough?  It must be possible to:

    443 to connection broker

    32111 (redirect USB) to?

    9427 (multimedia redirection) to?

    4172 (PCoIP) to?

    3389 (RDP if used) to?

This may all sound a bit novicy but I need to be 100% before you go test.

    Thanks in advance.

So using the brokers of the connection in direct mode without any security server.   I think that it would look like this.

    443 to connection broker

    32111 VDI Desktop

    9427 multimedia redirection) to?

    4172 VDI Desktop

    3389 VDI Desktop

  • Documentation for VMWare Converter

    Hello

I did it in the past with other companies. However, I was wondering if anyone can point me to a good documentation on the use of P2V Converter. We have physical machines in our current work, which must be converted to virtual machines. I'm looking for solid documentation that may expose all measures to transform them. Thank you.

    Hello

You mean like the User Guide?

    Which can be found here:

    Hope this helps,

  • VMware converter 4 support for partitions on dynamic disks

I currently have a server physical windows 2003 which has its system and data partitions defined as dynamic disks (C and D partitions lie on disk 0-dynamic) not well why it's set up this way, it was built just like that.

The goal is to convert this virtual server and I read many forums stating that dynamic disks are not supported for vmware converter, but some cases have succeeded where the target score was a record time-basic-but-now-dynamics.

Is this the case? and if so, what alternatives can be tried to virtualize the server.

Dynamic disks are supported for Windows.  The resulting virtual machine will only basic disks in a hot clone.

I would just suggest that you make a clone of hot regular and do a slight reduction in the size of the disc resulting (even if it is 1 MB).

Second, ensure that the system starts out of the c:\ partition and it is marked as a partition active and has a file boot.ini in the root.

  • VMWare converter - Windows NT

    Hello

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I need to create an image of VM to a Windows NT computer.  I was hoping to use the Converter Standalone package, until I realized that it was not compatible with NT.  Then I read that an older version (3.0.2) of the converter work with NT, but was crushed to learn that he was no longer available for download.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Glen

glenikins wrote: I checked this and v4.0.1 does support Windows NT (SP6) but only for a machine virtual source, not to a conversion powered physical machine.  It's a physical Windows NT machine that I need to convert it to a virtual machine.  Do I have any options for this?

Yes, there are always options.  The manifest is for VMware converter - 3.0.3 - 89816.exe is no longer available for download on VMware, however, it can be downloaded from elsewhere.  Don't say that I recommend that, however, it is an option and if you choose that route then ensure that the SHA1 checksum: 29ed0cc664df0a7caba542ad1d3e18eb3aed4e96

Another option might be to use imaging software to create an image of the pHDD to a vHDD in a virtual machine and then see if the converter can handle the VM image to start correctly and install VMware Tools.

Then the other option is similar to the second option that after imaging P2V start the virtual machine with the appropriate ISO Image and manually inject the necessary Mass Storage Controller and keyboard driver and settings in the Windows registry to enable the virtual machine to start and then install VMware Tools.

How can we change the directory temp for vmware converter 4?

Change the tmp variable % and Windows %Temp% - it may be enough to do so by the user.

Just curious - why do you not use the egg files?

Thank you for all your help

I finally found the guilty service.

It was pcmonitor monitor/remote control software. Once I stopped it is service vmware converter could get the capacity of the physical drives.

It is rather curious because I made several servers P2V conversions using this software (so far the last one two weeks ago - the difference between that server and this one was that the first was not a domain controller).

Hopefully this thread will help others in the future.

    converter-issue-image.png

This isn't a bug, it is a limitation of the converter. It is stated in the documentation. Converter considers that any machine under tension like physics. It cannot convert powered on Linux machines to hosted (i.e. Workstation/Fusion) destinations.

A solution would be to convert it to ESX and then convert the (from) power off the VM power to the workstation.
