Pouvez ESXi 4.0 to randomly delete all in a data store?

I'll put up a test server ESXi. I had several virtual machines installed, he tested for a few months and was almost ready to put it into production. I installed it on a flashdrive of ESXi and had implemented our Synology DS209 RAID 1 NAS NFS data store.

Yesterday, I installed a program on one of the XP virtual machine when all frose upward and I couldn't do a thing. I waited for a minute or two and finally tried to reset the virtual machine. This also seemed to have no effect, but after 2-3 minutes the bar to reset the vm started to go. Reset frose seized finnished for even 5-6 minutes before it finnally says "waiting for host" or something to that effect. I tried to log in Vsphere client to check what was going on, but received a message the host took time to answer. I tried several times but got the same message. I finally did a hard reset of the host as a last resort.

When the host came, I was able to connect to Vsphere, but my datastore was gone! When I created the NFS datastore folder on the NAS, all my iso and VM have disappeared as well! It was not a file in this folder was left on the NAS. All other files on the NAS from network backup were fine and all files were there. I tried hard to recover the files, but do not have mangaged yet. The biggest problem is cannot determine the cause of the problem. How can I determine if there was a problem with NAS, glitch in VMware, a kind of Hacker/virus or something else? More importantly, how can I stop to happen?

There is nothing in ESXi who would, on its own, remove all. If this is going to be a HOST I would not rely on a low end device as my store of data storage in an autonomous way. Add local drives and use the Synology DS209 for backup storage.

Have you looked through records of storage from another source. You can often use several protocols to access the same directories. Try allowing CIFS on the same directory and try to access it from a Windows machine.

  • ESXi 3.5 full disk - delete all snapshots

    Hi all

I have a virtual machine running FreeNAS with discs 5 x 200G, defined as a JBOD.  I was filling up with data backup to rebuild some system, when he hooked up with the "no more space for the snapshot files (that's the jist - I don't remember the exact error message now.

I did not understand where all my space was gone, but have been on a steep learning curve and understand now on the delta files.  I have in the filesystem via SSH, you can see that there are delta files containing hundreds of concerts.  Snapshot Manager showed no snapshots (nothing to delete).  I saw a recommendation to take a new snapshot and then do a 'delete all '.  I did, and the light of the physical server's hard drive was now two hours, strong.

Is this normal.  I don't want to be hasty and interrupt something that works as it should, but is it possible that I can confirm that it works and not only in an infinite loop?

A supplementary question.  To prevent this happining again once, can I change the configuration of the virtual machine and make these independent disks?  I can do that, for an existing virtual machine without losing any data on the disk?

There is one shot in place? Certainly don't lose your patience and try and stop the validation process.

You can watch the instant process of deletion/committ by the following command (you need to log in with access console not supported - http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/vmware-esx-articles/general/how-to-access-the-vmware-esxi-hidden-console.html )

    Watch "ls - Ghtu-* full-time hard" d

In your question that prevent from happening in regard to again - yes you can make the persistent independent record. This must be done while the virtual machine is turned off. You won't lose data, which makes change.

  • ESXi 5.5 only 4 TB usable for the data store

    Hi all

Although in vSphere Client 5,46 TB of capacity is visible, I can only use 3.64 TB to a data store.

    Configuration:

    -HP Proliant Microserver N40L

-HP Smart Array P410/512 MB BBWC, FW 3.66 Controller

    -4 x 2 TB as a Raid5

    HP-ESXi - 5.5.0 - iso - 5.72 A

I read a lot of articles on > limits of 2 TB of older versions of ESXi or controllers, limitation of 4 TB of c# vSphere Client, old firmware and esxi driver problems, etc.

But I could not understand the problem.

The P410 controller shows 5.5 TB:

    ~ # esxcli hpssacli cmd - q "controller connector = 1 see the config.

Smart Array P410 in slot 1 (sn: PACCRID110510NR)

Array A (SATA, used space: 0 MB)

    then 2I:0:5 (port 2I:box 0:bay 5, SATA, 2 TB, OK)

    then 2I:0:6 (port 2I:box 0:bay 6, SATA, 2 TB, OK)

MS (Vendor ID PMCSIERA, model SRC 8x6G) 250 (WWID: 5001438013D9F37F)

ESXi obviously knows the same size:

Your output, it shows that there are two partitions vmfs

A partition with 1.8 to and another with 3.8 to.   That's the reason why you see only 3.8 to

I don't know why the 1.8 to vmfs volume is not list anywhere (which does not appear in the list of file system of storage of esxcli also). Do you have any before partition created manually. If you think that if there is no data in this 1.8 to vmfs partition you can remove it by using the partedutil command and then use this free space to extend the existing 3.8 to. But do not forget before you delete the partitiaon

  • . Locker folder delete in an empty data store

    Hello

I recently went through the process of moving all the data store host 2 to 1 data store servers. The only thing left on the 2 data store is a folder ".locker".

Given that all the host servers are located on the data store 1 I am able to remove safely datastore 2?

    The server running ESXi 4.1.0.

    Thanks in advance,

You can change the location of the config from scratch, but I wouldn't delete it.  Go to the tab of your ESXi Host Configuration-Advanced settingsConfig Scratch. There you can change the path

  • Move the VM of ESXi 3.5 to Vsphere 4.0 (host chang & data store)

I have a server ESXi 3.5 with 1.6 to with 20 VM local storage.

Now, I want to continue to set up a cluster with a fiber channel storage. I want to know if this procedure is correct:

Can I migrate the computer virtual host that esxi 3.5 for the new Vsphere 4.0 host connected to the SAN fiber channel?

Are compatible vm ESXi3.5 to vspehere 4.0?

once migrated all the VM I want format host ESXi 3.5, install Vsphere 4.0 and set the two servers in HA.

ESXi 3.5 and 4.0 vsphere host must have the same processor?

    THANK YOU TOO MUCH.

    Hello

You can move vms from 3,5 to 4, first of all, look at that if you move virtual machines in an othe data store, you must use svmotion or take off your virtual computer.

You can run 3.5 vms in an esx 4 without problem. So if you want to enjoy the v4, you must first upgrade vmware tools, and the last step is to upgrade the virtual machine virtual material.

Move all the VMS to the v4, and then reinstall the other server with esx4.

Check the vmotion compatibility matrix and evc cluster parameters, you can mix processors intel, but not mix between amd and intel.

    hope find it you useful.

Your message was clearly not your comments to Microsoft Answers web site, so I moved it on the Feedback forum to "Install, upgrade and activate" windows forum.  Please return to your message, click the button change under it, change the menu Windows Version dropdown to indicate which version of Windows you are using, and then click on submit.  People can help better if they do not have to guess your version of Windows.

Your best bet is to reinstall WIndows from scratch using the original Windows installation kit or factory restore disks supplied with the PC when your purchased people.  If she did come with a restore or the Windows installation disk drive, it came with a partition on the hard drive and the software to allow you to create the restore disks yourself.  Which will ensure that none of their remains.

If you want to share data or peripherals between two PCs, you will need a LAN.  If you have internet access, then you already have a local area network.  Your ADSL access may or may not have a router provided with the equipment to access, but if it isn't you can easily add a.  The Knowledgebase Microsoft have some tutorials that describe how to configure a network home.

  • «Go back to the factory default» deletes all documents and data personal?

I'm selling my laptop, so return to the factory default. Someone can always retrieve driver information? Thank you.

    Moved to virus & malware

Original title: Is 'back to factory default' totally Virgin pilot?

Sorry I misread your message. As says factory setting puts your computer in the State in which it was when it left the factory. However, a person determined using equipment may be able to retrieve the information you make refers to.  There is a software that allows to avoid this.  For example, CCleaner has a facility that erase the drive.  But again this is not a 100% solution. The only 100% is to destroy the hard drive.  Having said all that I don't worry about this unless you have sensitive information on your computer, or there is very incriminating information stored on your computer.

PS: If you think about it, you will understand that when you delete something on your computer you are not really delete, everything you do delete the index.  The information remains until it is crushed and even in this case, certain information may be recoverable.

Of course, I in/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/2003-1 with vmdk and etc.

    How to access the machine?

    Thank you.

    Hello mla!

It seems you need to re-register the virtual machine. Two ways to do:

    (1) of VIClient, go to Configuration / Storage select your datastore righ - click on, choose Browse, navigate to your directory of the virtual machine, select the .vmx file and do a right click, then chooose "add to the inventory.

    (2) in the other direction its the COS. Log in and use the command: registry of vmware-cmd - s < full-path-to-the-VM-.vmx-file >

    Hope helps.

  • ESXI 4.1, 348481 Question about data store, not be able to use all the free space?

I am working on installing ESXi 4.1 on a Dell R710 with 3.7 to with SATA, RAID 5 disks. My problem is when I'm going to create my store of data it shows I have 3.7 TB of free space. I told him to use all but the data store comes out 1.63 TB. I deleted that and made a 1 TB data store, but when I went to create a new one he would not give me the ability to use the remaining free space. I'm really green when it comes to the implementation of VMWARE for any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you, Don

    Hello.

The maximum size for a single volume must be 2 TB - 512 bytes, as described in KB 3371739.  Use the RAID Dell utilities to carve up the storage volumes of that size or smaller.

    Good luck!

  • Cannot delete the local data store empty on ESXi 4

    Hi all

Does anyone know how to kill the process that uses / block the process of removing the ESXi 4 data store?

I have this provblem in VI Client when I was in the middle of the removal of the Local data store

    Remove datastore

The resources ESXi02_VMFS vim.host.DatastoreSystem is in use.

It's production live environment so is possible to kill the process without having to restart the ESXi 4 crowd?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    AWT

OK so first try to connect with viclient to ESXi directly and see if you can remove the data store.

The command you need to nod your head do buisness hours.

    Good luck!

  • VMware ESXi 5.0 - "move to" data store a vmdk file has left at the original location

    Hi all

I had to free up space on a SAN data store.  For this I used the function "move to...". "browser data store in VsphereClient.

Did not notice directly but after I moved my E: drive vmdk file, he took no source data store.

How can I make sure that vmdk (the source data store) may be deleted without impact on the vm?

    1. If 'vmkfstools d' report without lock, so I guess I could assume it is safe? Is there another way to check?

2 vmkfstools seems not having the '-d' option in vSphere CLI? (East - this only accessible from ssh console on an ESXi? quid vCenter then?)

In the data store, the files were:

    -Vm\win2k8_data.vmdk [SAN03] (data disk D :)

-[SAN03] vm\win2k8_data - ctk.vmdk (-ctk looks that it has been created by Veeam)

    -[SAN03] vm\win2k8_transactlog.vmdk (E: transaction log 128 GB drive)

-[SAN03] vm\win2k8_transact - ctk.vmdk (-ctk always assuming that it was created by Veeam ~ 8 MB)

    Steps to follow:

-J' turned off the virtual machine using these car

    S ' installs 2 files on the E: drive

-Removed the vm disk (<-my mistake? maybe this step left a lock file? in power vm off?)

-Added the disk from the data store where I copied it

    Thanks for the help!

    behd

    Hi Behd,

The best way to check if the vmdk on the source is not being used would be to add this vmdk to an existing virtual computer and turn on... ? If not used or is locked by one that turns on with success.

If it has an instance running it wouldn't let you put under tension and raise an error of file locking. ?

  • ESXi 5.0 servers don't recognize that same NFS share to the same data store

I have a setup of vSphere 5.0 running VMware Workstation 8.  I have two ESXi servers that are accumulating the same NFS share (with the same IP address and the same directory path), but for some reason, they don't recognize it as the same data store.  I deleted and added to the data store again and checked that I am getting the same way on both nodes.  However, vSphere don't let me use the same name when I ride sharing NFS as a data store on the second node. vSphere changes the name of "NFSdatastore" to "NFSdatastore (1)" and will not let me change, say that the name already exists.

The NFS file server is a VM of 2.99 OpenFiler, which IP 192.168.0.100 (and is in DNS as "openfiler1").  The path is "/ mnt/vsphere/vcs/datastore.

The NFS mount works great as a data store on the two servers ESXi, except for the fact that vSphere sees two data stores.  I have a Red Hat VM running on each of them, and when I browse the data of each ESXi Server store, I can definitely see two configs VM, as well as a few ISO images that I put on the NFS share.  However, I can't vMotion as he complains about not being able to access the configuration file and the file virtual disk (vmdk) of the other node.

On the OpenFiler, the directory/mnt/vsphere/vcs/datastore is the property of "ofguest" in the "ofguest" group, and the permissions are "drwxrwsrwx +".  All files under the directory are also held by "ofguest" in the group "ofguest".  Vmx files have permissions "rwxr-xr-x + ', and the vmdk files have permissions ' rw +-

I did a lot of Google search, read best practices, etc.  Any help is appreciated.

  • Can photos be deleted from the data store directly?

    Hello

I just doubt. Can shapshots be deleted directly from the data store.

I checked the Snapshot Manager, but was not able to locate snapshots in it, but at the same time there were three snapshots in particular virtual machine data store. What it means?

And what is my isNativeSnapshot = 'no'?

I just doubt. Can shapshots be deleted directly from the data store.

No, snapshots work as a string. Deletion of one of the links in the chain breaks the chain. Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015180 to see how snapshots work.

I checked the Snapshot Manager, but was not able to locate snapshots in it, but at the same time there were three snapshots in particular virtual machine data store. What it means?

Information about snapshots are kept in .vmsd the virtual machine folder. If this file is corrupt - for some reason-you won't see the correct string snapshot in the Snapshot Manager.

Please create a list of all files in the folder of the virtual machine (dir *. * /oen > filelist.txt (for Windows) or ls-lisa > filelist.txt (for Linux)) and after (tie) the filelist.txt, file .vmx VM as well as the file .vmsd for your next post.
