  • PowerEdge 1850 - Win Server R2 installation Issues 2012

Try to install Win Server R2 2012 on my PowerEdge 1850 servers.  I have the installation on a USB bootable (created using Rufus).  The system starts and begins to load files in preparation for the installation of Windows and then I see the following:

I tried recreating the USB on different drives and you still receive this error message.  I also tried to turn the OS Install option in the BIOS on Off.  When I do this, it goes to the Windows Logo but immediately fails and restarts.  Any ideas?

8G servers are not compatible with the R2 in 2012... not all simply not supported - not compatible. You can run in 2012, but not R2. 2008 R2 is the ideal operating system for this generation of server.

  • PowerEdge 1850 - installation of Windows Server 2012

Hi guys, I have a Poweredge 1850 which I brought cheap on ebay, I use it as a NAS abit to free up space on my iMac and stream movies/music to my computer or via DLNA to my TV and PS3.  I am currently running Ubuntu that I kind of like/dislike, I also like to use my server as abit of a toy game project, and I like to try things, like using a webcam as a security camera which I can access when im etc.  I also use it to connect via ftp to and run Web etc pages.

Now you know how I like to play with my server please can you help me :(  I want to try a new OS, I don't fear wipeing and start again as I can save on an external HARD drive.  I have a copy of Windows Server 2012 with I think that 30 days free and if I like it will activate.  When I boot from the CD, I get to the bit where it asks an installation location, but I can not find disks for select, I know I probably install the drivers I've tried (whether they are good or not, I don't know) my problem is they are .exe I can't load it as im on my mac:(-je n'avais pas ce problème de localisation deles de lecteurs quand j'ai installé Ubuntu) who find them without problem.

Is it also possible to do this via VNC, I use remote on my server as I placed it in my garage.  Its abit of an effort to bring it inside more, she is rather noisy.

A quick, someone could go through how to configure my drives in the bios, because I don't want to use RAID, I rather just have them as two discs rather than with her backup to another.

Would be very grateful if you could help me with my "little" project (maybe we could both remote in and talk via Skype and do it together: D)

    Kind regards

Yes, 2012 needs pilots, and the only way to get out them of the EXE is to run the EXE to extract the content (or use another tool for extraction).

If you don't have a Windows machine (or you are not able to do it in a box of Linux/Mac), is not a virtual Windows machine that you can extract it, AND you have access to Server 2008 (not R2), then you can install it with this long enough to get the extracted driver, as pilots PERC 4 are from 2008 (but not later).

Because Dell can't 2012 on 8G servers, you will need to use the drivers for Server 2008 R2:
http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/product/Poweredge-1850?driverId=9K3D3&osCode=WS8R2&FILEID=2731109791 (you need the 'hard drive' version)

The RAID controller integrated to 1850 (PERC 4e/Si) does NOT support so no RAID, in order to use the disks individually, you must configure each disk in a single drive RAID 0.  An alternative would be to disable RAID entirely, that uses only the onboard SCSI controller.  The RAID cache will be more usable with RAID disabled well.

You configure RAID in the CTRL-M (during POST) utility.  You disable RAID in BIOS (F2), in respect of the integrated devices (CTRL-M will not be accessible when disabled - you use CTRL-A to display the disks).

  • Dell Poweredge 1850 network drivers

    Hello

I have a Poweredge 1850 server, and I have installed Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (32 bit) on this subject.  I'm having a hard time getting the network drivers to work.  I tried all the installs on the Dell site, but I am still unable to get any access to the network.  Anyone know the name of the exact driver should I use?  And what should I do to install it properly?  This has been driving me crazy for weeks.

    Thank you!

It is the driver, you need to use:
    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/product/Poweredge-1850?driverId=G7JC2&osCode=WNET&FILEID=2731107841&LanguageCode=en&CategoryID=NI

First try the Package update for Microsoft Windows, then the disk version hard if it does not work.

If they don't work, explain what is happening - errors, messages, etc.

  • How to install Ubuntu for PowerEdge 1850 - updated: installed, but does not start?

I recently got a used PowerEdge 1850 (BIOS A04 version) without OS, with plans to install Ubuntu Server. I read that you can boot from a flash drive USB for it, so I used a tool to make a 8 GB USB 2.0 flash drive bootable for installing the operating system. I put USB drive on auto emulation and the USB controller on with BIOS support. In the order of start, emulated floppy USB drive has been updated with the top priority. The flash player has been connected to the USB port right front, with a keyboard at the front left, if it matters.

When I turn it on with this set all when it reaches the last line ("press CTRL-E to enter the BMC configuration within 5 seconds," without any player flash it just says only: "boot device available" at this stage "), it does nothing. Just on a blank line, no error or anything. I know that it did not freeze because underscore flashing. By pressing a button any will result in a single beep, same F2 to enter the BIOS setup.

There are 73 GB HARD drive at location 0 (left), nothing in the Slot 1 (right) and 4 GB of RAM. No material inside has changed.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong? If I just have something wrong set, can you give me instructions step by step from scratch (that is, a blank flash drive/CD and ISO downloaded), or at least point me in the right direction to correctly set up the flash player if it is the problem?

EDIT: All right. Ignore my next post in the thread. I'll post if no new complication.

    Roadsguy
It still hangs on the last line in the commissioning after the line 'Press CTRL-E to installation of BMC', with the blinking underscore, so I know that it is not frozen.

It is bootable media and try to boot from it. It seems that the bootstrapper does not initialize correctly. I would suggest reformatting and reinstallation of the operating system again. The question is not hardware related. You can try another version of Ubuntu.

    Thank you

  • PowerEdge 1850: Need to add storage: ISCSI or SATA controller or? : Host does not support configuring passthrough

I have a (non - VT capable) PowerEdge 1850 which took an ESXi 4.0 U1 (Dell Version) installation like a champ.  I know that I probably won't be able to have 64-bit clients.

In this box of ESXi (laboratory

    Server) I have:

    • 2 x 73 GB SCSI U320 drives in RAID 0 array.

    • 6 GB OF RAM ECC

    • 2 x 1 GB NIC

    • 2 x PCI - X slots (PCI - X slot 133 MHz and PCI - X connector 100 / 66 MHz)

I want to add more space "VM/Guest" and not spending too much money.

    What is my best solution?

    1. Find a compatible ESATA 3Gbps controller card (I have a nice 500 GB SATA Drive laying around)? ...

    2. Or should I get out an old box and throw a Gigabit NETWORK card and a SATA inside player and try my hand at Openfiler? I have yet to try it.

    3. ... Or... something else?

Could someone help me hand choose either a PCI controller card - X ESATA/SATA (is - it possible or am I limited by my attached picture?) or a NETWORK card for my spare box (if it is not an old)?  I understand "_ _passthrough configuration"allows my virtual machine to hardware on the host computer directly, but I'm not clear how this effects my plans you want.

    I read:

.. .but I am suspicious of money sinking into the material lest my PowerEdge does not support the Configuration PassThrough (does it matter?)  I still have to load a single guest.

Thanks a lot for your time in advance!

Get started with what you have. Do not pass anything. Set up the old PC you have as a NFS storage device. Use openfiler or? That will allow you to do some investigation/tests you want to do. Keep your eyes open for a local RAID controller or on an old server with lots of fast scsi storage you can add such as NFS or?

  • 7.3 OMSA on Dell PE 1850: no storage controller detected

    Hello

I'm running OMSA 7.3.2 on a PowerEdge 1850 server, and I get the following error:

    Any detected storage controller

It allows to work with a previous version of OMSA, but since I updated the software, it doesn't work anymore.

I don't know where to look to find errors, could someone help me solve this?

The OS is CentOS 5.10 32 bits.

    Thank you

    David

You will need to downgrade your version of OMSA to 6.5; This is the last version that supports servers more alumni such as your 1850. 7.3 runs on the servers G 9 and later versions.

There is no driver. The PERC 4 are incompatible with the help of R2 2012 no new drivers and previous drivers have been developed, either by Dell LSI. 2012 is higher you can go. I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just that many people have lived this before without a bit of luck.

  • Driver Windows 7 HARD drive

Hi, try to install Win 7 on a dell poweredge 1850. Boot from a USB hard drive, everything is fine until it reaches the hard drive (logical drive 1 LSI raid controller). When I search a driver all that I get is an exe dell and the advice of other forums to use Win2008 driver. Problem is that I can't find the driver for Win 2008. I installed 2008 on the 1850 another, but the source of the files appear not to be any use Win 7 says there is no signed for my hardware drivers. Checked the box of HCL only see the but still not good. What I am after is a Win 7 driver file will recognize.

    Any help would be appreciated

Do you use an add-in PERC 4e/DC or PERC 4e/Si on board?  That doesn't really count because they use the same driver - just so I know what we are working with.

This is the driver you should use... it's to 2008 R2.  It uses the same core as Windows 7, so it should be this one you use first.  Keep in mind that R2 is 64-bit only, so if you try to install Windows 7 32 - bit on that, you may need to check the site Web of LSI for a driver.  They should have an 'equivalent' under the name of LSI controller because they are controllers for Dell based on controllers of their own.  You might be able to get the equivalent LSI identifier for the POST, that the RAID controller is loading, or in the RAID BIOS itself.  However, it is unlikely that LSI will have everything.  Down line... If the 2008 R2 drivers do not work for you, you may not be able to install Windows 7 on the 1850.

  • vSphere Client ESXi 4.1 keyboard repeats

I'm under ESXi 4.1.0 on a Dell PowerEdge 1850.  When I open a vSphere Client console window to a computer virtual desktop running Windows XP, just fine.  When I perform the same process of a Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop with Windows 7 SP1 of the keys that I sink into the virtual machine will scroll numbers 0-9.

For example, when you attempt to connect to dialog logon WIndows Server, in the user name entry I press the 'P' button twice, it will echo "01".   If I press the 'P' button again once it will echo '3' and so on.  I tried the new customer of ThinApped without any difference.  I also tried to create a new virtual machine from media and during the installation of the OS, before the key is always that numbers.

I tried this on the virtual machines running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Ubuntu with the same results.

I don't know what else to try.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just to eliminate any external cause, you use the following Norton antivirus on Windows 7 PCs with constantguard?

I've seen a number of occasions where constantguard has decided to enter the numbers you have described

I use a mixture of Windows XP, Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate and donlt have questions you specify (but do not use Norton)

  • Quick question on consolidate infrastructure

First, it's at HOME the exclusive use, this means that it is not a solution of busines, is one of a family not a company!

We currently have three real servers:

    A server: Dell PowerEdge 1850 4 GB RAM 64 bit (no VT - x!), 146 GB uSCSI 320 RAID 0, Win 2008 R2 Server, 2xTBase1000

    Server B: Intel 5320 4 GB of RAM 32 bit, Win 2008 Server, 2xTBase1000, 6-to SATAII RAID 0 and 54 GB uSCSI 320 RAID 0

Server c: Intel Workstation OSX Snow Leopard Hackintosh, 500 GB SATAII, 8 GB RAM, 2xTBase1000

A server / server B Server C are connected by Cat6 for a TBase1000 switch, which is then connected to our home and internet

    A server is running:

Exchange Server 2010 with 5 e-mail accounts for Exchange ActiveSync (iPhone, Outlook Anywhere and so on...)

    Active Directory and domain controller

    Server B runs:

    VMWare vSphere Hypervisor

R: VM Windows 7 32 bit, 3 GB of RAM, Windows Media Center (for Streaming for XBox360)

B: VM Ubuntu 32 bit, 1 GB RAM, personal Web server Webserver

    Server C is running:

    OSX Snow Leopard Server

    Pocket Gnome WoW Bots

I would like to buy a new server with Intel VT - x, allowed, like a 2xQuad with 32 GB of RAM or more, then I could use the system as follows:

New X Server (replaces the server A and B):

    VMWare vSphere 4

    R: machine virtual Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010, AD & DC; care ~ 8GB of RAM

    B: VM Windows 7 64-bit, Media Center; care ~ 8GB of RAM

C: VM Ubuntu 64-bit Web server. Care ~ 4GB of RAM

VM d: OS X Snow Leopard Server; Plug 12 ~ GB RAM

    My Question:

Because I'm not a pro, I would like that you guys what you think that installing? Remember that it is only for personal use, it was designed that all we can share our music, watching movies on TV and so forth. I know you would similar goods achiev with House san, but, we need the Exchange and I run different programs on the server, so it is really essential that it is always a complete windows server and not only a media center pc. The reason for this change would be to reduce consumption of energy and noise and temperature, because the equipment is running in our cellar.

    Thanks for reading!

I never said that it does not work! It's just that he's not allowed or supported. It is a constraint of license. You are allowed to run a virtual machine in MAC on Apple hardware only.

  • How can I reach instant of my VM usign admsnap or alternative?

    Hello

I'm trying to set up shots on our ESXi VM and run into problems.

Material: Poweredge 1850 and an AX150i EMC NaviSphere Express

On physical machines, I create a snapshot using the admsnap by running the following command on the source server:

    admsnap flush-o f:

    admsnap start-s snapsession o f:

Then I would run this command on the target server:

    admsnap activate snapsession s

and then start replicating the data above on another logical unit number attached to the target.

Now when I run the command activate on my target VM I get the following error:

No devices were found that could activate this session.

When I got it all running on physical machines I used such iSCSi initiator, but now I'm usign the adapter ESX. Is there another way to instant assembly/disassembly in a virtual environment?

    Thank you.

You can script the new analysis of the iSCSI hba, or you can simply use the adapter for iSCSI MS in the same way as you did previously.  This will keep you from having to use RDM, you can add while the virtual machine is running, but cannot delete a virtual machine if it is running.

  • How can I make visible iscsi drive to a guest operating system?

    Hello

I have (AFAIK) working between our Poweredge 1850 servers and our AX150i iSCSI

I have two vswitches implemented, each using a different network and on different networks. I can see my LUN and everything seems ok.

In stock, I created two storage devices and am now looking to get this visible to my guest as a local disk operating system, so I can use them. It's the part that I am confused on that I see no way to do this.

If I remember correctly, on our physical hosts as soon as I assigned virtual disks to servers, they have become visible to the OS and I left.

I've attached screenshots of my main screens.

Also, is this the right command to save my config servers (I'm on windows):

    vicfg - cfgbackup.pl - server & lt; Ip_serveur & gt; s & lt; filename & gt;

    Thanks (again).

    Hedley

    Hello

I think you are trying to create a virtual hard drive as opposed to a raw disk mapping (RDM).

If this is the case then what you need to do is change the settings of the virtual machine by right-clicking on the corresponding to your OS virtual computer that needs to access the disk asked again.

Add a new device, select a hard drive, choose Create a new virtual disk, select the size you want and the data store that you want it to be on. The rest you can leave the default, check the summary reflects what you want and press Finish.
