PowerEdge 860 PCI specification

Anyone know if the PowerEdge 860 PCI risers v1 or v2 PCI Spec? I want to add a USB 3 map to a system existing and to see that it is important for the card I'm interested.

  • PowerEdge 860 - PERC RAID controller compatibility

I would like to add RAID 1 functionality on a PowerEdge 860 server we have at the office.  I was unable to determine what is the Dell Reference number for the RAID controller for that server.

Is there a Dell RAID controller with BBU Cache memory which can support the PE860?   Would the PERC 5 / i raid controller work?  If so, what model number of Dell is compatible.  As the PE860 has long been considered his retirement there is nothing from the Dell Web site.  Searching the Web I found not less of 6 different numbers of parts Dell for a PERC 5 / i controller.

Thanks in advance if anyone can be useful.

    -Paolo

    Hello Paolo

    PF100
Is there a Dell RAID controller with BBU Cache memory which can support the PE860?

No, the only supported the internal RAID controller is the SAS 5/IR. The SAS 5/iR has no cache. The PERC 5 / I is not supported on the 860. The only controllers that contain cache are external controllers as the PERC 5/e.

You might be able to get a PERC 5 / i for work on the server, but we have not posted it to the 860. There is not many versions of the PERC 5 / i, which have been released, so I'm pretty confident that most or all of the part numbers you have found work. Whenever we change something on a part given a new part number. For example, if we decide to start using another antistatic bag to ship the PERC 5 / i in then we would give him a new part number.

You can see here the valid controllers. The 860 is displayed on the inheritance tab:

  • Compatible version of ESXi for PowerEdge 860?

Are you looking for my current configuration of the virtual machine to a re-usable, configuration of the VM and I try to be on the latest version of ESXi who will consider my PE 860, and if there is anything in particular, I have to do to make it work.

I found the custom Dell ESXi files but I don't know if I should use these versions or just stick with a version of VMware.

    Thank you.

ETA: PE 860 to the 1 x 2.4 GHz Xeon Dual Core and I'm only under a single SATA HDD inside SATA_0, can add another in a clean future.

    Hello johnnydotexe

We have not validated the 860 for any version of VMware. I just searched and found messages from customers installing up to ESXi 5.0. There is not much difference between 5.0 and 5.5 latest about hardware compatibility, so I don't see a reason why you cannot install 5.5.

I suggest using our ISO custom. Even if we do not support VMware on the 860 many pilots are used across multiple products, so there may be drivers for the 860 material available on our drive.

Since this is not a validated configuration I suggest you be aware, there will likely be some quirks, and it is not recommended to run configurations not supported in a production environment.

    Thank you

  • ESXi 4.1 and Dell PowerEdge 860

I can't find Dell PoweEdge 860 to VMware hardware compatibility list.  And it is not in "Die ESXi 4.x compatibility" Dell either.  But I found a few post on someone managed to install ESXi 4.0 on a USB key.

My 860 PE has a SAS 5/iR adapt (RAID controller).  Someone managed to installed ESXi 4.1 (U1 or U2) on this model?  Should I use generic ISO image to ISO from VMware or custom Dell?

    Thanks in advance

Right, in my view, this is going to be a monologue

    So I finally tried Dell's custom ISO for ESXi 4.1 U2 (VMware-VMvisor-InstallerCD-4.1_Update2-502767.x86_64-DellCustomized_A02.iso)

ESXi software has been installed without problem.  My RAID controller is correctly recognized as SAS 5/iR adapter.  And things are obviously well run.

However, there is something quite disturbing: the disk data store has the property

    Hardware acceleration: unknown

More, even if my drives are SAS 15krpm, disk i/o is really slow (especially writing). When the server was using Windows Server 2003 R2, the writing on the disc was faster.  I don't know if there is anything I could do...

I just hope that this server could last for the next two years, after which I might be able to have a new

  • Dell PowerEdge 860 and ESXi5

    Hi all

I am new to the forum and VMware too. Have a little problem with ESXi on the specified computer. Everything works fine, except the USB passtrough.

    860 PE record:

    -Version 2

-Intel Xeon 3050 with Hyperthreading and VT (both enabled in the bios of the host)

    -1 additional BCM Gigabit NIC

I really need this feature, use a card reader with VM Debian.

    Tom

Well, these Socket 775 processors supported VT - d, according to the database of Intel:

    http://Ark.Intel.com/Search/Advanced/?s=t&Sockets=LGA775&VTD=true

Also make sure that your BIOS/motherboard supports allowing it. If it isn't, you might as well upgrade your whole system.

  • Options of DMA with the NI PXI for the PCI 3 rd-party with no DMA controller device

    Hello

I need to extract data my device PCI 3 rd-party at 22 MB/s.  The fastest, that I was able to continue to use NI-VISA 5.4 in LabVIEW 2013 is 1.6 MB/s with the function move in 64.  There is no DMA controller on the 3rd party device.  I was hoping to use the DMA of the host controller and a VISA MEMACC object, but I fell on 3229I2RA knowledge base: How do NI PXI controllers support DMA (Direct Memory Access)?  The KB has that "our PXI controllers support only the PCI specification and therefore do not a DMA controller on the motherboard."  If there is no DMA controller on the PCI 3 rd-party device, is there no DMA option for my 3rd - party on NI PXI controllers device?

Thanks for your time and your thoughts,

Currently, there is no controller PCI DMA accessible by the user on computers NI PXI.

  • several PCIe - 6363 s in the same computer

If I install 4 32 channel PCIe-6363 on the same computer (I found a Gigabyte motherboard with 5 PCIe connectors) and gains of the analog data at full sample rate (2. MECH / s on each card) on all inputs of 128 (4 x 32), I would be able to record all these data on a standard hard drive 3 gb/s, or would choke the system with this amount of flow? It could also be cooling or power with the installation of 4 PCIe_6363 issues cards on a single machine?

    Thank you!

    Stephen

    Hello Stephen,

For PCIe-6363 devices, it is important to realize that they can taste at 2 MS/s with a single channel and multichannel rate is 1 MECH. / s, which is distributed among all the channels that you use in the task. This is because the 32 channels are multiplexed to a single analog-to-digital converter (ADC)

This behavior is true among all our Multifunction DAQ hardware, except for simultaneous sampling (as the SMU-6368) devices, which sample of each channel to 2 MECH. / s, because they each have their own analog digital converter.

So you would be able to acquire all 128 channels without problem, but they would be at a speed of 1 MECH. / s / 32 channels = 31.25 kech. / s per channel.

With regard to the total disk write speed for 4 PCIe - 6363, it would be 4 devices * 1 MECH. / s per unit * 2 bytes per sample = 8 Mbps. Office of the hard drives can easily achieve this.

You don't want to connect with a RTSI cable to make sure they all use the same clock sampling and relaxation at the same time. These devices comply with the PCIe specification, and so you will have no problem with the power supply or cooling on this motherboard. They require no external power supply unless you need additional source on their line of + 5 V, in which case you would use the motherboard connector hard drive.

Does that answer your question? Do you really need 2 MECH. / s on each channel? Let us know if you actually need 2 MECH. / s on each channel, and we can rework the math with the SMU-6368 and discuss considerations.

    Best regards

    Sam

  • Install OS Hang

I am trying to install Windows 2003 on a poweredge 860 opportunity that I recently bought. I'm new on this and do and learn at the same time. The Unit came without HARD and CD disk drive. I installed everything and configure RAID 1. I modified the installation program to include the new disks and the system sees both the RAID controller and the CD player. I changed the boot order to go first on the CD-ROM.  The unit is now connected to a network or an external device.

I downloaded the Installation and server management, v.5.2.0, iso, and after a bit of struggle got it burned with a boot sector.

I tried to get the installation going and am failing. The unit goes through the initial startup and load the raid controller, then seems to go for the CD ROM and begins to start. The info screen will (with some modification of the longer lines for brevity).

If you have multiple ISO, you must concatenate them into a single image. If your single image is 1.2 GB, it should be placed on a single disc - DVD. Whether or not your 860 will read a DVD depends on whether you have a CD-ROM drive or a DVD drive. DVD was not standard on the 860.

Forgive me if you answered this in your original post, but why you use ISM? ISM is deprecated and you should use GDPS for installing the OS.

  • Any plans for more models in the 13th generation?

    Hello

I realize that it is unlikely to get a response, but I would ask still thinking...

Are there plans for more models in the 13th generation PowerEdge line up, specifically at the lower end? Say, a T330? A web search reveals a few tips, but nothing definitive.

    Thanks for any information!

    Hello.

We are not aware of all the future plans for the release of 13G low servers. The 13 lower G servers available on the market today are R430 & T430.

  • Is it Possible to access only bypassed FC HBA to multiple virtual machines

    Hello

I have a FC HBA on my 5.5 ESX. Server. It does not support the function of SR - IOV. Is it possible to access this FC HBA across multiple virtual machines?

If possible, please provide as follows to go further.

    Kind regards

    Aashish

It is not possible. The basic material underlying PCI specification does not have a single shared between several independent operating systems PCI device.

SR - IOV solves by creating the virtual function peripheral PCI, but as you mentioned, that he can't stand not and first of all, ESXi supports that SR - IOV for Ethernet network devices and not for native FC HBA (excluded FCoE) functions.
