PowerEdge 860 - PERC RAID controller compatibility

I would like to add RAID 1 functionality on a PowerEdge 860 server we have at the office.  I was unable to determine what is the Dell Reference number for the RAID controller for that server.

Is there a Dell RAID controller with BBU Cache memory which can support the PE860?   Would the PERC 5 / i raid controller work?  If so, what model number of Dell is compatible.  As the PE860 has long been considered his retirement there is nothing from the Dell Web site.  Searching the Web I found not less of 6 different numbers of parts Dell for a PERC 5 / i controller.

Thanks in advance if anyone can be useful.

Hello Paolo

PF100
Is there a Dell RAID controller with BBU Cache memory which can support the PE860?

No, the only supported the internal RAID controller is the SAS 5/IR. The SAS 5/iR has no cache. The PERC 5 / I is not supported on the 860. The only controllers that contain cache are external controllers as the PERC 5/e.

You might be able to get a PERC 5 / i for work on the server, but we have not posted it to the 860. There is not many versions of the PERC 5 / i, which have been released, so I'm pretty confident that most or all of the part numbers you have found work. Whenever we change something on a part given a new part number. For example, if we decide to start using another antistatic bag to ship the PERC 5 / i in then we would give him a new part number.

You can see here the valid controllers. The 860 is displayed on the inheritance tab:

Need advice: the goal is to add Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller H330 server Dell Poweredge R230.

Originally, the data connection is to the motherboard with a mini SAS connector, power cord is related to the Board of Directors itself as well go with a connector 6-pin. Given that the new RAID controller has a different SAS (SFF8644) mini connector, I can't use the original cable.

So try to solve that I bought 4 X SFF-8482 SAS a cable - Mini SAS SFF 8643. It would connect the RAID controller for readers. (THIS)

I also added a power cords: 4 Pin IDE power Molex 1 male to 3 x female Splitter & 2 x 4-pin Molex to 6-pin PCI-E adjust Power Supply Cable (THIS) and (THIS). It was supposed to feed readers - but is not and they won't turn on.

No idea why? Other ideas of ways to solve this problem?

    1. initially, I understood the topology based on the information on the user manual, see the attached figure describing Cabling two 3.5-inch hard drives 'to the PERC card. Isn't this relevant?

The information I had previously provided are based on the wiring of the Controller PERC H330 with basket 4 x 3.5 "which I assumed you had based on your notes. Thanks for your clarification and ignore these P/Ns. Here are the cables you need.

    • Signal and cable LED to P/N 6R7VT the H330 controller to connect to the motherboard
    • Cable SAS junction A H330 for 2 hard drives or optical drives, P/N TTN3V
    • Hard/optical drive power cable from the system board P/N N9P7R for 4 HD (shipped with your server. Use only 2 connectors) or P/N VXR2 for 2 hard drives.

  • The RAID controller compatibility

Hi I just bought a new system and intend to use a RAID controller to configure a RAID array.

The controller that is available is ""Intel RS25DB080"." I've never done this before so to start I wanted to ask you how can I check if it is compatible with my x 99 Deluxe motherboard?

(he did not appear on the page that mentions the compatible products: Specifications of RS25DB080 for the Intel® RAID controller)

Secondly, it would be possible to set up several RAID arrays using a single controller? that is, if I want to do a table composed of 3 disks and another 3 more I have to buy an extra card?

Also if this controller is not compatible what other controller I'll buy? And what exactly what I look for in a RAID controller if I'm looking for one? (Currently I just check to see if it's a SATA or SAS controller)

So, basically, do not know much about the RAID needs your help, thank you!

Generally if you are serious about RAID for the only real video editing solution is arec, because you will need 3 RAID or Raid 6.  There are a number of X 99 different systems with the Areca RAID card installed I am owner of a BOW 1883i, which works very well in my x 99 motherboard, I have it configured with 7 discs each RAID 3 Samsung 840 Pro I probably will be getting rid of it I can get nearly the same results with a SSD of unique m2.  In my old age, I went basic/simple rather than exotic.

  • "Setup cannot find not all hard disks" on Dell PERC 6/1 RAID controller-supported?

Hi team - I have a Dell R710 (physical host) PE server that uses the Dell PERC RAID controller 6/1.  Windows Server 2008 x 64 is the host operating system.  VMW Server 2.02 installs and works very well, and I need to install W2K8 x 32 (guest) server configuration, but windows can't see the virtual disk with the same error "Setup cannot find not all hard disks", you get the installation on Windows XP Home edition- but the documentation does not say it's controller RAID is not taken in charge should be... any ideas?

This is not a problem of the underlying RAID/hardware controller.

Virtual MACHINE on VMware Server just to see the virtual hardware that you have configured when creating the virtual machine, or through the settings.

Be sure to select the correct target OS when you create a virtual machine. This configures the disk controller HARD virtual appropriate, which should be supported on the OS installation media.

If you have selected the right OS and still have problems, please post the vmx file.

  • PowerEdge 2900 Perc 6 / i internal Raid Controller

OK, so I use a server Dell PowerEdge 2900 with a PERC 6 / i integrated RAID controller

I have configured the RAID array very well, installed Windows 2008 R2 and works fine and dandy

The only problem I encounter is that, when starting the server (Post), I get a message on the cable SAS B are not connected or misconfigured.  The bottom of the basket on my server, which goes to the internal drives, has only a port where I can plug a cable between the Perc 6 / i.  Where is the 2nd wire supposed to go?  I can't find the second port.

    Thank you

    Hello

I get a message on the cable SAS B are not connected or misconfigured.  The bottom of the basket on my server, which goes to the internal drives, has only a port where I can plug a cable between the Perc 6 / i.  Where is the 2nd wire supposed to go?  I can't find the second port.

PERC connector 0 goes to the bottom of basket. Connector on the PERC 1 connects to the modular Bay. If you don't have the module Bay optional then you ensure that you use the 0 on the PERC and not the connector 1.

  • Replacement H200A PERC - inactive volumes RAID - controller okay to activate?

Hi all, quick question which I * think * I know the answer, but it's a new one on me and all juggling RAID settings in a live environment make me sweat.
Situation, is that I have a PowerEdge T410 with a PERC H200A controller and two RAID 1 volumes, 600 GB, and 1 TB.  Was a message of "Fatal error 4 Bus Slot" in OpenManage and diagnosis, which points to the H200A, and as a result, the server is not feeding properly in ESXi and one of the volumes is showing that the East in vCenter.  It will not mount.

Fortunately, I have a spare H200A controller, so I put it in the server and, as expected, is to show the RAID volumes as being inactive.  I'm * assuming that * I can activate just them and they will come to life, but I just wanted to check if somebody do it before and I can confirm that is going to work.

    Thank you

    Tim.

Yes, you must activate the VD/table. Real PERC, the controller would see a configuration on the discs and you could import the foreign configuration... the terminology on this controller is that he sees a configuration on the disks and you must activate it.

  • PowerEdge 1900 perc 5 / I controller battery replacement

I have a replacement battery message in the Application to manage Open Dell for a Dell PowerEdge 1900 Perc 5 / i controller. If I replace the battery I lose the current RAID configuration? Also all the procedures available for the replacement of the battery?

    Thank you

    Jeff Hicks

Here is a link to the manual, page 92 will give you the steps to replace the battery: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-1900_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf

Your RAID configuration is stored on the discs. Turn the power off and replace the battery, then start back. Upon request, accept the configuration of readers and move forward.

  • T130 PowerEdge RAID controller onboard or get a card?

Finally, we got a budget to replace our entire PoS system and got a PowerEdge T130 to replace our T110. What I'm not clear on the RAID controller embedded - is it only the software, hardware or some hybrids; and what are the levels of RAID support? The existing facility is with SATA AHCI and RAID1 controllers in Windows Server 2008 R2 value.

Our range of SSD in our existing server still in excellent condition, so I want to migrate it on when I'm done configures OS and PoS software. Should I go into BIOS, set up the RAID controller and see what levels he'll give me or I'd better use the physical map of the T110 in the T130? The T110 is currently using a PERC S300 card with 4 SSD in RAID10. Alternatively, can anyone point me to a better RAID card for this server which would do well to RAID10? I shortly before the system goes into the production environment, so I want to change my hardware now while I still can.

It is only the second build of the full server that I have used in the past 6 years. Would like to hear the thoughts of anyone T130, RAID, etc. Finally, moving into the world of 64-bit, thank God.

Finally, moving into the world of 64-bit, thank God.

Welcome to 2009! (Sorry, I understand the difficulties from old tech in some organizations, I do).

Software only - it is based on the Intel RAID chipset and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10 volumes and non-RAID. It should be avoided.

    htc2010
The existing facility is with SATA AHCI and RAID1 controllers in Windows Server 2008 R2 value.

This is what should be done with the integrated RAID controller (S130 - off and mirrored in the operating system instead - IF hardware RAID, which is preferable, is not checked).

    htc2010
Should I go into the BIOS, change the RAID controller and see what levels he will give me

Still once, I you would recommend against the use of the S130, AND you can't replace non-RAID RAID on the fly. It would require reinstallation or backup/restore.

    htc2010
or I'd better use the physical map of the T110 in the T130? The T110 is currently using a PERC S300 card with 4 SSD in RAID10. Alternatively, can anyone point me to a better RAID card for this server which would do well to RAID10?

The S300, while only slightly better than the S130, is not supported in the T130. I would recommend the H730 or the H330 if you absolutely cannot spend the money for the H730 (they are cheaper suppliers that Dell directly). The two become RAID 10. The H330 will give you about the performance of your S300. If none of them are selected, I'd go with what you vascular (the S130 is your only other option 'supported', and it's garbage). If this system is heavily used, I highly recommend, but if the H730 moderately or less software RAID is fine (you have SSD in the new configuration, I take it...).

  • PowerEdge T710 PERC H700 RAID level migration issue

In my new role, I inherited a number of servers managed until now by someone else.  One of them is a PowerEdge T710 with a Controller PERC H700.  There are two matrices; the other has four 3TO disks in a RAID-5 configuration.

I don't need the storage space any where near as much as the reliability factor.  Is it possible to do a migration on-site from RAID 5 to RAID-6 without disturbing data?  There is enough free space, and I have no problem losing a portion of the free space I have.

"Is it possible to do a migration on-site from RAID 5 to RAID-6 without disturbing data?"

Yes, BUT you can use this method by ADDING another disk.  RAID 6 requires a minimum of 4 drives.  Insert a disk "to hot', then in the software OpenManage (OMSA), go into storage, PERC, virtual disks and reconfigure in the drop-down list of tasks available for RAID 5.

"There is enough free space, and I have no problem losing a portion of the free space I have."

Apart from the fact that RAID 6 requires a minimum of 4 drives, even if you want to spend a 4 drive RAID 5 has a 4-drive RAID 6, it could NOT be done.  You can't make a smaller table.  The controller doesn't know - or care - on real data of BONE on the disks (so the amount of 'free space' is not serious) and is not worried about virtual disk space (which would be filled if the total capacity of the discs has been used).

  • RAID controller perc 5 / i Raid 5 rebuid of security

    Hello.

    need help.

    I have the raid 5 6-disc version. 136GB x 2 drives and 4 x 2 TB. (why? don't ask some black.)

    RAID controller perc 5 / i

so a question is: can I discs remove 2 136 GB safety (without data loss) and rebuild the raid to work only with 4 drives of 2 TB and volume take all the space?

You cannot delete records from the table - the number of disks must remain the same (or you can add to it). You need backup/restore to make a smaller VD.

  • PowerEdge 2850 - Perc 4e/Di - status of the RAID-1 array

I'm trying to give a sense of the info in OMSA 2.1.0 for a RAID 1 virtual disk on a server Poweredge 2850 + Perc 4e/Di.   Array disk 0:0 died at an unknown point in the past.  Info OMSA before replacing the drive:

We have added another 0:0 drive, he rebuilt successfully automatically and this is the current info:

So the State of the virtual disk RAID-1 is is more "degraded" and yet it is still showing only 0:1 Hitachi disk array and not the new 0:0 Seagate.  How this should be interpreted?  We also have another virtual disk raid 10 on this same server with discs model even who had also a drive down and replace this trained player the new Seagate drive not appearing in the table of Raid-10 list as expected.  the difference was that the Raid array-10, the original disk was displayed in OMSA as 'impossible', while on RAID-1 above, no other player has been listed.

It should show the other disk.  A few things to try:

    • Refresh the screen VD
    • Closing/re-open OMSA
    • Stop/re-start services OMSA (DSM)
    • Clear the ESM/Hardware log in OMSA
    • Restart the server
    • Updating system firmware (BIOS, ESM, PERC (first pilot), HARD drive)

All the foregoing may work, but it's probably caused by obsolete OMSA and/or firmware/drivers.
