Preparation of a document for American print sizes

I'm a designer based in the United Kingdom and I have to prepare a book for printing by an American company.

This is the specification that was given to me by the American company:

8.5 x 11 blue

COVERAGE: 12.5 "18.75" height

Internal file must be

11.25 "height of 8.75"

I don't understand. The final size is 8.5 x 11 width height. The print size is 12.5 by 18.75 height height.

This means that the lid has 4 x 7.75 purge, which seems exesive.

Internal print size seems to be smaller than the final size (of the width at least).

Can someone explain this? I would like to ask the printing company, but they are a way, and I thought I would ask here first of all to avoid embarrsssing myself in case I'm missing something obvious.

In the United Kingdom, serving sizes are usually larger than the final size of 6mm only (give 3 mm bleed all around the document).

In fact, the size of coverage they provided looks like he must have the width has grown to include the spine when this value is known. Right now it is 8.5 x 11 in two panels (front and rear cover) with pli.75 allocation.

If I have a question on that to the printer (and I'd certainly here), I get on the phone and talk to someone in prepress, if I can, rather than in the sales to the printer.

  • The Illuminant C for a printed document conversion: D65 or D50?

I have a few old color data of the 1930s which is expressed in coordinates using Illuminant C. I need to reproduce it in the swatches in a document for offset printing, I'll prepare you using InDesign. I can convert the coordinates in the LABORATORY using software. However, this requires that I replace C Illuminant D50 or D65. D65 is the match more closely to obsolete Illuminant C. But this project is intended for production printing, where it will be considered in a light booth D50. I have also been informed that the Adobe color engine also assume D50 for everything.

Are there management settings of colors that I can use to preserve the appearance of the conversion of C to D65 somehow? Or should I accept the inevitable and convert directly from C D50?

Important is the concept, either A or b:

    (A) a set of tokens is observed under illuminant C and the colors are represented by XYZ or xyY.

A set XYZ sets a color absolututely, there is no need of a white point.

In this case, the calculation is simple for reason x, y, y:

    z = 1-x-y

    X = xY/y

    Z = zY/y

    X 1 = X/Xn etc.

    next page 4 here:

    http://docs-Hoffmann.de/cielab03022003.PDF

Xn, Yn, Zn is the D50 white point. In CIELab, it is just a reference, of course

referring to expected conditions of the printed product vision.

    (B) a set of tokens is observed under illuminant C and the colors are represented by XYZ.

How would the same chips look if they were read under D50? What are the new XYZ values?

It is a question of color appearance. At the present time, I think that this is not your actual task,

    Therefore, it is not said.

The CIELab values for Munsell colors are for example here, if that is important:

  • Development of InDesign documents for print and the web

I develop InDesign documents for offset printing, but the Organization now wants to slip into the 21st century by also erect these same documents on the web (as interactive web pages that respond to user input). I'm looking for the outline of the best way to combat this, just so I don't waste too much time trying to learn the technology wrong or the fake software.

I started to score my documents with XML, so I think the course on the web is from InDesign to XML format, then via XSLT or CSS in XHTML. What is the best or only way to do? I guess that DreamWeaver will also feature in the equation at some point.

These documents are examination questions. They are pretty simple. All paras have paragraph styles, but there will be some substitutions of the police as bold, italic, underlined, clue, exposing. Without doubt, these must all XML tag, possibly using character styles? There are a lot of graphics inserted (files have and psd) which need to be converted to png, I guess. I have also attached metadata via XML attributes and I want that metadata to get to the web page and direct aid, action based on user input (like what answer they give to a question).

As I have always worked on the print documents, I don't know XSLT, CSS, XHTML or HTML even if I just want to start on the right foot.

Any suggestions welcome, including perhaps good tutorials or other resources. And of course, I want to automate this process as much as possible by using scripts.

    Thank you

    Brian

For what it's worth, I would use the following XSLT to perform this task:

    http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/transform">

To test it in a browser, make sure that change you the file extension exported from "xml" to "html".

In addition, make sure that your original InDesign document has the correct structure:

My computer. DELL XPS 420, running under WINDOWS 7 64-bit

Issue. When I get documents for my printer, how to reprint them? When I need another copy. Thank you very much

Hi napleswatkins, the will of service (sending of documents to your e-mail address of printers for printing) ePrint impression whatever documents are attached to the email he receives. There is no way for the sender of the mail specify the number of copies of each document to be printed. Would be the only way to print several copies of a document sent via the service ePrint for the sender to attach several times to email, as there is no cause enamel exceeding the total size of the eligible file.

The other would be for the recipient to just make copies of the document using the copy on the printer function.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

  • After the transition from XP to Windows 7, the custom-printing size selection box has failed.

I always was able to use my C5180 Photosmart to print pictures of custom size on my old computer with XP.  After getting a new computer with Windows 7, the custom size box says "the custom paper that you have just set will become unavailable for selection until you have left and returned in the preferences to print/properties." (I did too many times to count!) All except 'Cancel' choices are grayed out.  This feature still works on my old computer, even if the box selection and formulation are different.  I have checked and checked the drivers and we have tried many other solutions.  I have worked in this market for a week or two and see that many other people have similar problems.  I would like to buy a new hp printer, but see that even with the new hp printers people have problems with paper sizes custom, which is very important to me - I print a lot of cards of various sizes, mainly of 6.5 X 10 inches.  Of course, no support is available for this printer "obsolete". (It may be "obsolete", but it works fine with XP). I also can't get any definitive information on this feature in the new hp printers and have noted that some people have problems with this feature on the new printers also.

Thank you so much Shane R. for your expert advice.

Can I try your solution in the future, but right now I'm satisfied by another solution, I realized with the help of a thematically response on a Windows 7 forum.

First of all, I'm pretty positive, I used the correct driver because I downloaded the most recent, verified and recontroler, etc.  And, fortunately, most of the features all-in-one is working well.  Because of this, I hate to try drivers for another model - as I have solve my problem. I could end up with another problem - as no function of scan or something.

Here is how I was able to get custom formats:

'Start' to 'control panel' for 'Hardware and Sound' ('View drivers and printers')

    Click on the printer

Choose "Print server properties" at the top of the screen

    Click 'create a new form.

Give form a new name, for example 7-10 card and put the name into the box just above

Complete custom down, for example, print size 7 x 10

    Click 'save form '.

    Click "close".

The custom name and size is then appeared in the photo program I feel for and I was able to use it.

Thank you, again. (Where can I provide Bravo?)

How to resize the print size of an item within my PDF to multiple pages? For example a receipt or another image that can scan in bigger or smaller than my 8.5 x 11 Bill?

    Hello

In the print dialog box, you would get options to resize your document.

Try them and see if that helps.

Once you choose the print option, it would give options to change the size of the page you need.

Please check and see if it suits you or not.

It is possible. That would be called a script of the event and it would be placed where predefined Scripts under Scripts folder in the settings folder.

Then open Photoshop and go to file > Scripts > Scripts event Manager to have this script that is executed whenever you open a file.

The problem is to find a script that is already doing, or ask someone to write it for you.

    Hi simonp.

To set the size of paper to print on, please follow these steps:

    1. open an application such as TextEdit.

    2. Mount the file and select print or press CMD + P keys on your keyboard.

    3. Locate the PAPER SIZE field, and then select the format of LETTER paper.

4 search drop-down list labeled PRESETS, then expand this menu and choose SAVE AS.

    5. enter a name of your choice for this setting by default, and then click OK.

Now we can select the above created the preset in any application you are printing from, with the default paper size is letter.
