  Since you have a Dell and a recovery CD and not a recovery Partition, check how many partitions you need by using disk management:

  I don't know if this is the right section, sorry for that. Feel free to move this thread in the appropriate section *.

  I think the size of partitions depends of the you want to use and install other software.
  So if you have a lot of software which runs under the Windows System I recommend to choose a larger size to win 8 partition.

  However, given that you have a 750 GB HARD drive, you could take 200GB for Win 8, 100 GB to Linux and the rest of the HARD drive size, that you can use for data.

  Have you run the Wizard upgrade of Windows 8 to ensure that the components of the computer are compatible with Win 8.1?  It is available in the link I have provided.

  I am not sure what you mean by a hard drive "slide in".  You hear a "Personal Media Drive"?  If so, I can't find one any where.

  If the computer is compatible with Win 8.1, it would be easier to buy a SATA hard drive.  You can use the FREE copy of Aomei Partion Wizard to transfer your BONES and your data.  I downloaded it to see what it will do.  It seems to be a great program.  You should read all the 'tutorials' which are provided.

  The best way in my opinion is using AutoNuke in Dban. Make sure you have the desired data off the drive hard until you execute Dban. Once you run it, it's over.

  You can integrate the drivers Sata (ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI) and burn a new cd XP with nLite .

   

  Here is a guide showing how to integrate and here drivers Sata. 7-ZIP or Universal Extractor are good at unpacking the installer.

I bought a new hard drive on eBay very similar: a 120 GB MK1231GAL Toshiba 1.8 "4200 RPM PATA drive with a ZIF connector. For some reason, the drive is not recognized by the netbook. I know it's getting common because I can hear it turn up when I turn it on. But when I try to enter the BIOS, it tries to read the disc (it is said that a primary IDE drive is detected), but ultimately fails to recognize the drive. According to the manual (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01631228.pdf), this model "supports every 4.57 cm (1.8 inch) parallel ATA (PATA) hard drives. I then updated the BIOS version e.16 F as he supposedly "solves a problem where the system can not be able to complete the hard drive diagnostic test (HDD) in the configuration utility in the BIOS for a Toshiba hard drive". This did not help the issue all.

  My question is this: If this netbook isn't compatible readers of this ability, or did I just get a dud of a hard drive? I would need to know pretty quickly since I only have a limited window to return the player to the seller.

  Unfortunately, Toshiba MK1231GAL cannot work in MBA. See the response from Toshiba:

  I'm about to install my first server esxi 4. I have a single sata drive of 1 TB, I'll start with. I wanted to have 3 physical partitions on the hard drive; one for esxi, one to hold the ISOs, and a third to hold virtual machines. My question is do I need to partition the disk before installing esxi? Esxi use the entire disc or only what suits him because it's moved? For example, if esxi needs 60 MB, is the rest of the disk to partition from in the vsphere client? And finally, if I partition beforehand, what is a safe partition size to give esxi 4?

  Just create 3 x logical drive first using any Linux Live CD

  1 player should go for ESXi (if not mistaken, less than 2 GB) and the rest for you to decide. VMFS can be created later through vi-client.

  Only the hard drive model is a 640 GB drive.  I think that you can easily use a 750 GB drive with no problem, in my humble OPINION.  Depnding the merchant of your choice, Amazon - here are a few choice.  Or Newegg, HEREare good examples.
