The two "Seagate Firmware Updates" are respectively for the hard drives of 250 GB / 320 GB and 500/750 GB hard drives. The "PLDS Optical Drive Update" is for another drive to CD/DVD only installed in your computer and also does not apply. There is no further action to take...   I bought a second hard Portege 3490 and the hard drive was broken. I got a 20 GB drive to spare by Seagate (model 92011). I have a USB and PCMCIA cdrom disk. I downloaded disk hard Seagate tools/drivers installation and launch the setup and set up all partitions etc..

  I have an Optiplex gx270s Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM.  Using XP Pro with Service Pack 2.  I am currently using a 320 GB Seagate IDE hard drive.  I am trying to record music and space need more hard disk.  Music production forums I've read suggest that you use an external drive for recording and editing.  My question is: can I connect a 500 GB to 750 GB SATA drive to this computer as an external drive?  If so, how?  I don't want to leave the file open, so I can't connect to the motherboard SATA and power connections while using the external drive.
