Prevent the player from virtual machine using the VPN to the host machine

Hello

One of the reasons that I have installed VM Player with the app "Browser Appliance", was for navigation, I made within this virtual machine would be independent of VPN to my host computer.

Steps: on the host machine, connect to the Cisco VPN 5000

On the Virtual Machine try to access a url that wouldn't be avaialable so connected by VPN

Expected: I am NOT able to access the private URL. If the virtual machine is hacked, the hacker will have access to a URL of the company.

Note: I use device browser 1.0 with Ubuntu linux. the adapter network mode is NAT.

Thank you for all the advice

I assumed that any network (wifi or ethernet) usb-based adapter should allows you to have an isolated inside the guest network.

There is no need to prevent the host from the use of the graphics card beyond to choose the graphics card to get through to a virtual machine. Do alerts if the host and the appropriate parameters are defined automatically. However, the Web Client vSphere does not reflect this behavior when running Firefox on Mac OSX 10.11.3 47.0.1. Recommend use if possible vSphere Client. It presents a panorama that is closer to the real situation within 6 ESXi. If the Web Client is not the height by the time vSphere client is relieved there will be real trouble.

At this point, I think, the pilot VSGA vSphere installed as part of "vmware tools" on a virtual machine is required for the successful graphics card through to a monitor. The process of solving problems associated with a virtual machine to crash the host on VM shutdown or restart has led to the false impression that an uninstall of the VSGA vSphere pilot was necessary for the proper functioning of the virtual machine. Do not uninstall the driver VSGA vSphere.

A virtual machine with passthrough crashing the ESXi host when to stop or restart a VM guest is not unusual. Click here to see an informative discussion about this and how to fix the problem. If the link does not head the Forum of the source, the House and perform a descriptive research. Essentially, the problem seems to be generated by the interaction of the VM with the PCIe bus on start/stop. In my case, after each accident, the ESXi host area before any PCIe 2 location where the graphic card is installed. See the transponder required for features in the BIOS of HP.

ESXi through a GPU was a PITA. It is possible to give enough time and effort. VMware documentation is miserable, so dependent on human is a given. Be sure to leave breadcrumbs for others.

  • Question of moving from virtual machine

Hey everyone, I have installed virtual machine I need to move from one hard drive to another.  The problem I have is that the destination drive is formatted in FAT32 and cannot send the VM on this disk because it is on the 4 GB file limitation.  I changed the settings to the hard drive to divide it into sections of 2 GB but can't seem to find where these files moved to.  I then looked in the file vmware-vdiskmanager-r sourceDisk.vmdk t 1 targetDisk.vmdk option, but it can not find the hard associated with the virtual machine.  It turns out that when I installed the virtual machine, it all packed in a .vmwarevm file.  I don't know how I can do this now. Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

If you have already selected a 'Divided into 2 GB files' in the settings of the Virtual Machine, you can now copy/move the computer virtual package (.vmwarevm) for the drive/partition/volume formatted FAT32.

A Virtual Machine package (.vmwarevm) is actually nothing more then a folder containing files (and other files).  Despite its size, as shown in the Finder, as long as 'Divide into 2 GB files' is selected in settings of the Virtual Machine, it can be copied/moved to a FAT32 format volume/partition/drive.

  • Virtual machines off the power during the response of isolation of riding

We have 2 ESx 3.5 update 3 groups in our environment. Clusters have HA and response of isolation The Drs is configured from virtual machines under tension. During a network outage, on one of the hosts, all virtual machines were turned off. None of the virtual machines on other host turned off. Virtual machines had come back on the other cluster hosts once the network was up and VC was reachable.

Prior to the maintenance of the network, due to a problem, this particular host was disconnected from the VC earlier. We were unable to connect to the server through the VI Client and restarted the service pass. Prior to the maintenance of the network, we identified that this single host was not related to performance on the VC Server data. Also some jobs started on the host would go to 100% but show never completed.

My request is could the problem above caused virtual machines to restart despite the response of insulation parameter. Before the interview, I could find this host receiving the heart beats of VC server and other hosts in the cluster and VC showed no error associated with HA on the cluster or the particular host.

We rebooted the host after the maintenance of the network and reconfigured HA on the cluster. Since then, it works fine. We had another interview to the network and we have had no problem with VM restarts.

Looks like your ha agent may be dead as well as your connection between the host and VC.  There are several newspapers linked to HA, under/var/log/vmware/aam.  You can check to see if they provide additional insight as to why HA acted differently on a vs host others.

  • Find virtual machines on specific clusters

There are a number of clusters were trying to move away from virtual machine.  I'd like to understand what VM (and their associated properties as $_.) Folder) that can be found on these groups.   The following code takes a long time to run (he gets the number of old hosts rather quickly).

    to connect-VIServer $VMServer
    $VM2Move = @)

#Exclude virtual machines and hosts on the new groups
    $AllOldHosts = get-vmhost-location $Location | where {$_ .parent-NotLike "newcluster01" - or $_ .parent-NotLike 'newcluster02'}
    $OldHostTally = $AllOldHosts.count
Write-Host "is the number of hosts on old clusters: $OldHostTally.
#The of the $AllHosts that are desired properties are manufacturer, model, name, State, StorageInfo, Version
#The properties you want from virtual machines are host, name, PowerState, ProvisionedSpaceGB, record, Version

    {Foreach ($OldHost to $AllOldHosts)
    $VM = get-VMHost $OldHost | get - vm | Select name, folder, host, Powerstate, Version
    $VM2Move += $VM
    }

    $VM2Move | Export Csv OldVM.csv - NoTypeInformation

When I get to the end of the pipeline 'select name, folder, host, Powerstate, Version', I get the following text:

Write-Host: error internal Win32 'not enough memory is available for procedures.
"SS this command" 0x8 occurred when writing memory console at the heart of the current output buffer

    HostCommand

I am still awating the output by using the statement select (still takes way too long).

How it should be written?  Any improvements would be appreciated.  It seems the only link between cluster and VM is through the host.  The virtual computer object has a property of the host and the VM-Host object has a Parent pointing to the cluster property.

    Hello, JohnnyScript-

    Welcome to the communities.

There are a few things to make it who can help speed up your code.

    • Since you already have objects VMHost Get-VMHost calling on line 4 of your code, you should not use Get-VMHost still once for each unique host (or any host)
    • There are a few variables that you need not, as the $VM2Move to the concatenation of data table and the $VM table of the selected objects
    • While we are cleaning things, we must not use Get-VMHost at all, really - Get-Cluster will suffice

So, with a bit of a re-write, you could generate data of OldVM.csv with something like:

    ## get all clusters not named the two given names&{Get-Cluster | ?{"newcluster01","newcluster02" -notcontains $_.Name} | %{ ## this cluster object, to be used later $oThisCluster = $_ ## get the VMs in this cluster, and select a bit of info about each Get-VM -Location $oThisCluster | Select Name,Folder,Host,PowerState,Version,@{n="ClusterName"; e={$oThisCluster.Name}}}} | Export-Csv c:\temp\OldVM.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

It ends by using Get-cluster and a Get - VM times once a cluster (vs using Get-VMHost once by the host and Get - VM host twice).  You should notice a fair speed increase.  If you really need the speed data, you could do even better with secret of most favorite people, Get-View.  We leave it for another year.

  • Virtual MACHINE starts in EFI environment after crash

    Hello world

I'm breaking my head on something that looks like a bug to me.

A few weeks ago, the ESXi host on that I was running VMs crushed (power fail) and after powering back and from virtual machines on this stand-alone host, one of the virtual machines did not start correctly.

This machine virtual runs Windows Server 2012 and booted up this time in the EFI environment.

After some research, the EFI configuration is gone. When opening the Boot Manager Maintenance upward and choose 'Start configuration Options', no options are listed. When you add a new boot option and using the backup function, the settings are lost instantly. When comparing the parameters with any other SMV 2012 I have running, Miss me a lot of configuration such as startup options and some driver options.

These two options will not save after closing the menu for adding these options. When you choose 'Start from a file' I can start the virtual computer by using the 'VOLUME LABEL\EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi No.' file. After the virtual machine restarts, it will be to the EFI environment.

It is very difficult to find information about the EFI BIOS so I hope anyone here have experience with it.

I even tried to restore the VM about 2 weeks before the accident, but even with the files of the virtual machine will start in EFI environment with no settings at all. So maybe the problem caused earlier; very weird! Also not to be able to save the new settings in the environment EFI seems very strange to me.

    Thanks for the replies! =)

    Hi René,.

Hmmm... There is something of very, very wrong with this file NVRAM.  Looks like that the power failure has corrupted the file NVRAM in a way that confuses the firmware irreparably.  I consider this new next week (next year!) when I'm back in the office and will introduce an internal bug report if I find something that we can make it more robust.

Although I generally recommend it not for VMS EFI, in your situation, your best course of action is probably the virtual computer power off, remove the file .nvram to the directory of the virtual machine (or rename it to something else, if you want to be extra careful), and power then it powered.  A fresh .nvram file will automatically create the virtual machine starts.  For the most part, reasonably normal Windows installations, the virtual machine must then be started automatically in the operating system installed.

(For the benefit of other readers of the forum who may come across this thread, I repeat: do not delete a virtual machine EFI NVRAM memory, unless you understand the consequences!)  "It seems that there is rather than remove the NVRAM in this particular situation and very few others.)

Please let me know if that gets things going again!

And I'm going to one of our regulars of the forum, WoodyZ, avoid having to make his regular situation comment: If you haven't already done so, you can consider investing in an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to keep your system running through power cuts or to allow at least a normal instead of a hardware failure stop.

    See you soon,.

Is it possible to make sure that all 4 virtual machines can have the ability to print at the same time?

Navigation on NAT tends not to work.  So yes, try jumpered.  Your operating system should be on the same workgroup or domain.  (Not absolutely necessary, but more difficult if they are not the same).

  • The prevention of future host to spread from a virtual machine

Been browsing the internet using the virtual computer for years but the available hardware is too old for this and now host to be used for navigation, with browser sandboxing or sandboxing system (freezer).

If all the personal data is still encrypted in a virtual machine in the future and this virtual machine has no access to the internet, and the host gets infected or belonging to a hacker, how can we host infection can prevent from spreading to the virtual machine?

Keylogger to a current computer hacker to run in the host a recording of what I type inside the virtual machine? And it's why steal the password typed to access encrypted truecrypt of personal data in the virtual machine?

    (1) well, if you are sure that your VM is not yet infected, I recommend you take backup of any virtual machine, or take a snapshot of the current state.

Then, install any newer version of Antivirus (Avast, macaffe) programs.

And if you are concerned about keyloggers on the host, connect a secondary keyboard directly to your comments. For more information, refer to this Article

    Dear all,

I had a work around for this problem. By adding "usb.autoConnect.device0 ="0xVID:0xPID"" this statement to the VMX file, solves this problem, that is, whenever the VM is wake-up by clicking on the link CV or using vmrun commands, it connects the unit in question automatically and it is charging correctly with his driver. Obtaining smart card detected after sleep\hibernate with no problems.

VID & PID is respective ID of the device that can be seen in the properties of the Device Manager "Device Instance path".
