Pro book: laptop recovery process

I have been waiting for HP tech support for over an hour and broke and now so far have been another half hour of waiting.  Technical support told me that HP encryption failed and was sent two recovery disks.  I need to know that is to execute the instructions first and any special to run recovery.

Hello

Welcome to the HP Support forums.

I don't know what were your previous numbers, but if you now have the HP recovery discs, please watch. It should be own indication what specific DVD's - they must be named correctly.  If you are not sure of the one to use, please post back what you see written on them.

Here are the complete instructions how to perform a recovery > http://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c01867418#AbT4

The instructions are for Windows 7 - let me know if your operating system is different.

  • Recovery process for Win 7 on Satellite Pro T110 is very fragile - WARNING

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro T110 with Windows 7 Professional and was very surprised of the fragility of the system recovery process was:

    (1) there is no DVD media with recovery of Windows 7.
    (2) during the installation process, you MUST follow all the standard options (no additional partitions) If you want to be able to use the hard disk recovery partition every time.
    (3) third-party imaging solution to take a snapshot of the disk, using a partition is a pointless exercise - you will probably not be able to recover to a State where it can be used.

Personally, I think that must be a big red piece of paper (or better yet, a set of recovery disks) in the box that says something like the following:

If you want to be able to recover the factory default condition, you MUST follow this process:
    (1) installation using the standard options - DO NOT CREATE any WHAT of PARTITIONS ADDITIONAL
    (2) be prepared to wait hours for the system configuration process completed successfully
    (3) DO NOT connect to a network during this process connection
    (4) do not touch the keyboard or press the button unless recommended specifically to do
    (5) be prepared to go through many cycles of restarting the computer
    (6) once completed, the FIRST thing you should do is get a USB DVD drive and use the utility program to create a set of recovery disks.
    (7) create a system repair disc - it may be a CD

In my installation, I created a partition of D (to allow for the backup image), then managed to lock the touchpad and then ended up with a totally dead machine after having tried a system recovery which came with error F3-F100-0004. Thanks to the help of Marcus to Toshiba, Brisbane I was able to get a set of recovery disks and get it operational.

I hope this is helpful to someone else and that Toshiba can improve the reliability and stability of the recovery process.

    Hello

If you would turn on the unit for the first time, then you will see that Windows 7 was already preinstalled and just s complete the installation process
It will take time, however, after the win 7 installation you will find a pre-installed manual, most people don t read this and it is a big mistake
Operating instructions, you can find all the details you mention here in the display

    > 1) there is no DVD media with recovery of Windows 7.
There is an available HARD drive recovery option that allows you to retrieve the device without the recovery disk, but you can also create a clean recovery disc using the Toshiba recovery disc Creator called preinstalled tool!

(> 2) During the installation process, you MUST follow all the standard options (no additional partitions) If you want to be able to use the hard disk recovery partition every time.
As far as I know Win 7 preinstalled Toshiba is an image and does not change the partitions you can change this only if you are using the Microsoft Win 7 disc and it should be clear

However, the recovery disk must be created ALWAYS that because there is always a risk that something would go wrong with a HARD drive or partition

With reocvery disc, you are always on the right side

I'm about to start the recovery process of the product on my laptop, so I've read is that it formats all data on the hard drive. Is what it means if I have 2 hard drives (C & E drive) all on each of them will be erased or simply C drive only?

If both drives will be erased so where can I restore my data disc E to continue the process?

    Hello Tony

It will be interesting to know what model of laptop do you have and how you want to perform the installation of recovery.

If you use F8 and drive HARD recovery (on the new laptop models) installing the C partition will be deleted only.
If you use the whole HARD drive recovery DVD will be erased and formatted.

    Hey mate,

    > ERROR: file recovery database copy failed!
Sounds like a defective or maybe striped recovery disk

In my opinion, you should try another disc. ex: Microsoft Windows disk. If your disc of recovery which is defective, the Microsoft should work fine. After that, you can download and install all the drivers and tools of the Toshiba page.

In the worst case, it of a hardware malfunction, HARD drive or something else, but you should test another disk first. ;)

  • HP Pavilion dm4 - create from an identical laptop recovery disks?

I bought two HP Pavillion dm4s is about 2 years old, they are exactly the same, one for each child. One of them reported an imminent failure of the HD, I ran diagnosis and there is a smart hard disk error, I have re-sat HD, no luck.   I created a back up to a separate HD and ordered a replacement HD.

My question is... can I create recovery discs from the other laptop to use for the recovery of the laptop with the failing HD?

    Hello

As long as the machines (and the version of Windows - IE the Home Premium etc.) are identica, then Yes, the discs created on 1 machine should work correctly on the other.

Note:  Be sure to replace the failed drive HARD with one of the same capacity (or slightly larger) - installing a lower capacity drive is likely to cause problems with the recovery process.

    Kind regards

  • Recovery process fails

I have a Presario notebook dv6-6145 x.  When I tried to create a set of recovery discs, I got a message that 4 DVD would be necessary.  After having inserted the first DVD and the creative process ran for a few minutes I got a message that the process has failed.  I tried to do a restore to factory state using the original image stored on the hard drive and do not have.  After that, the PC would not boot into windows.  I ordered a set of HP recovery disks.  During the recovery process after the second disc has been inserted, the recovery program has stopped working and I got a message to call HP support.  I tried the recovery 2 more times with the same result.  The PC is no longer under warranty, so it wasn't an option.  This laptop gave me no trouble since I bought it in 2011.  It is now completely unusable and ready for the trash.

    Hello:

If you can still read all 25 characters of the product key of W7 on the bottom of your laptop, the only suggestion I have for you to try because you got nowhere with the retrieval of the disks is to do a simple install of W7 DVD or USB flash drive.

Here is how to do this.

Use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive using the USB compilation method.

Use the product key of windows 7 of 25 characters to activate your installation.

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below. Download the Windows 7 version that is on your product (Home Premium, professional or ultimate) key to apply.

  • Charger UK for us hp pro book 4545 s

I have a hp pro book 4545 American s. I move to the United Kingdom. I was wondering if I could buy a charger uk for my computer and use it instead to use a converter. Will be that FRY even though my computer?

    Hello:

The laptop uses the power adapter same no matter where you live.

You must purchase a different power cord that goes from the charger plug.

For use of your model in the United Kingdom, you need a power cord with the part number 490371-031.

See Chapter 3, page 25 of the the service manual on the link below.

    http://bizsupport1.Austin.HP.com/BC/docs/support/SupportManual/c03539990/c03539990.PDF

You will need to order it when you go across the pond, or ask your search by the part number for a retailer in the USA that can have one.  HP does not sell the power cord you need in the USA.

Below is the link to order in the United Kingdom.
