You would be better to use a flashdrive rather than an Ethernet cable. To connect using an Ethernet cable you need a crossover cable and then configure the network cards.

    I hope this helps.

  • Pavilion dv7 Notebook - how will I know if I'm connected with the Ethernet cable or wireless?

The notification area icon displays only a wireless connection, although the ethernet cable is connected to the laptop.  HP Connection Manager shows that both wired and wireless connections are active.  All of my previous laptop (not HP) had different icons for wireless to a wired connection in the notification area.  HP has a different icon for a wired connection?  If so, why it doesn't show in the notification area?

Enrico, thank you.  I have installed Win7 Pro.

The Network and Sharing Center says I'm connected wireless.

Program of HP's "Connection Manager" shows that both the wired (ethernet) and wireless networks are connected.

If I am always connected wirelessly with the ethernet cable plugged into my machine, how to move from the wired connection?

Open the network and sharing Center. Look at the picture of what I have posted. Do you see where it says log in or out? Select it, and then disconnect from the wireless network. If you are also connected to the wired connecttion, then the connection should be almost transparent.

  • Problems connecting Xbox 360 to computer vista laptop via ethernet connection to the network local (the laptop is connected via wifi)

I spent a few hours trying to solve this problem, and I've been to countless forums.  They all told me to go into "Manage network connections" and right-click-properties on my connection Wi - fi.  Then they speak by clicking on the tab sharing... which I did not.  I don't know how to share my connection to the WiFi with my xbox 360.  It is supposed to be easy, but I can't realize what is designed as "highly probable."  I have a laptop Sony Vaio VGN-FW390 and Vista Home Premium. Maybe I have to set up a connection to an access point, or do a sort of thing ICS... I do not know.  I am incredibly annoyed by this, and I'd appreciate any help.  Thank you.

    Messier,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

Try this and see if it works for you, it has worked for some users.
With no cable connected between the computer and the xbox, go to control panel, network and sharing Center. You should see a "Local Area Connection", which will show disabled at this stage, and your "wireless network connection", which should show connected. Connect the ethernet cable to your laptop and the back of the xbox. Select the 'connection to the Local network. After that it is well connected, disable your 'Wireless Network Connection'. Once disabled, right click and click Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and check "allow other users of the network to connect through this computer's internet connection". Once this is done, your wireless internet connection should say shared next to the State of the connection.
Turn on your wireless connection. Then, right click to 'connect to the Local network' and click on repair. Allow the end. test the connection on your xbox.

Let us know how that works for you.

  • NB100 - unable to connect with the ethernet cable

My netbook works very well with the wireless connection (even if I get only 4 MB when I have 10 MB connection). I visited a House of friends the other day and she does not have a wireless router.

I plugged the cable broadand on my machine. I disabled the wireless connection and activated the network connection in network connections. I turned off then the feature wireless on the keyboard with the keys Fn & F1.

It shows that there is a link in my taskbar, but when I try to open the internet it does not connect.

I thought it was his connection because she had problems so today I went to another friends house and got exactly the same response.

I decided to try the same thing at home and I disconnected the ethernet cable from my wireless router and performed the steps listed above.

Still no joy - am I missing something?

    Tips:

Use a static IP address, and not using DHCP.
Disable your firewall. It can block the network connection.
Disable network cards won't do not. If you use wired LAN, turn off wireless and Bluetooth in the Device Manager.
Check if their ISP requires a power of Attorney, if they don't, specify the Proxy and Port in your browser settings.

  • Compaq 6910p - wireless adapter turns off when the ethernet cable is connected

    Hi all

Then, when I plug in an ethernet cable (connected to a router), my wireless adapter turns off.

He immediately turns on when I unplug the ethernet cable.

It isn't really a problem, either connection will provide my needs of networking, but it's just weird and I don't like it.

    Using Win7 Ultimate 64 bit.

    advice would be appreciated.

    Hello:

This is the default setting to save the battery.

If you always want the wireless on, go into BIOS > Menu of device Configuration and activation to deactivate WLAN-LAN.

  • When I try to connect with my wireless laptop will connect only to Local access. If I connect the laptop to the router with the ethernet cable, it works very well.

    VIsta - Local access only

    HI -.
I recently moved.   I use the same router from my old apartment and I had no problem connection in the past.   Since I moved I have a new Time Warner modem (Cisco) and the modem works fine.

The router also works very well I'm able to connect with my iPhone and IPad without any problem.

But when I try to connect with my wireless laptop, it will only connect to Local access.    If I connect the laptop to the router with the ethernet cable, it works very well.

    It's a Dell Studio 15 with Vista.

The computer is able to connect to wifi to other places without any problem, but for some reason that I can't connect home.   I tried to reset the modem and the router several times, but that did not help.   I tried the option repair & diagnose several times but it doesn't work.

I tried to look for other solutions online and tried to disable IPv6, and while it helped some and I was able to connect wireless, the computer ran so slowly that it didn't seem like a good solution.

This has been very frustrating.   Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion.

    Hello Staciusa,

Have you tried to change the wireless channel that your router is running at? There may be interference that could prevent the internet connection:

Take a look at step 6 in this article that give more details about it:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/athome/Setup/wirelesstips.aspx

If you need assistance to change the settings of the specific router, you will need to contact your router manufacturer or your internet service provider.

  • What is a substitute for the migration assistant? I tried in vain for three hours to migrate files from a macbook pro to each other so that even if connected with the ethernet cable the computers never see each other.

What is a substitute for the migration assistant? I tried in vain for three hours to migrate files from a macbook pro to each other so that even if connected with the ethernet cable the computers never see each other.

You can connect otherwise?  USB or FireWire or love at first sight?  You can connect both machines and start the one you want to transfer to target disk mode.  If your other machine is up and running with an account on it and you just want to move files, you can simply drag and drop the FRO the machine mounted TDM, or you can use the migration wizard.

Or, if the other machine still starts and runs, you can start both computers and connect to the same wifi network and share the hard drive like machines on the network.  Access them in the finder on the new machine files and drag-and - drop, or use the wizard migration, on wifi.

  • How can I connect my apple tv to my wifi using an ethernet cable?

So I can not find my apple tv remote, but I know that I can still use my iPhone as a remote control. Because I need to connect to a new wifi spot, I know that I can connect my ethernet cable to my apple tv and then use my phone as a remote control. Is it possible that I can put in my wifi information in my apple tv so I don't have to continue using my ethernet cable?

I don't understand. what the ethernet connection has to do with using your iPhone as a remote control?

If your iPhone is already setup as a remote control for the Apple Tv, so you can use it to configure the Wifi connection for this as you would with the normal remote, by going to settings on the Apple Tv.

If you have not yet set your iPhone as a remote control, then there is nothing you can do as you need the apple tv remote to access the relevant screen to set up the iPhone as a remote control.

  • stretching from the internet connection via a wired ethernet cable

    Hello

First time poster. I have a netgear R8000 Nighthawk on my 2nd floor. I intend to use an ethernet cable connected to the R8000 and bring it downstairs in my living room. My question is, is - it possible to be able to connect the ethernet cable in the living room to another router and then connect up to 3 devices (apple computer, smart tv, tv) via ethernet cables? I prefer wired connections. I am aware that I can use as the EX7000 netgear router as access point, but other devices may only be connected wirelessly.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you very much!

  • can I connect my hp cp1518ni network without using a ethernet cable?

Can I connect wireless, or I have to use an ethernet cable?

    Hello

Based on this, your printer is not ready to network, it uses the USB port so adding component (wired or wireless) network may cost more to buy a new printer. A cheaper option is to purchase a wireless as one of theseprint server.

I have to play with settings?

No you can not use the Ethernet port on the printer.  It is only to connect the printer to a wired network.
