Problem installing VMWare Workstation on a Server Windows 2012

Hello

I have problems when trying to install VMWare Workstation on a Server Windows 2012. Windows Server is Amazon EC2 environment and a generic image extended release.

The problem is that the installtion process fails because of "Hyper-V" during installation, but after investigating the option "Remove roles and features" I can see that it is not installed.

Is there any fixes for this issue?

I enclose three screenshots for you pleasure.

Regards, Ray...

Hello Ray,

Welcome to the VMware community forums.

You run an EC2 instance that has just 615 MB memory installed?

It's kind of a weird for a host, much too low for Amazon memory configuration, even be profitable.

I think that your server is running UNDER Hyper-V, for example. It is probably a Virtual Machine.

You can easily check that yourself by running the script from this site:

How Hyper-V to: detect if you are inside a virtual machine

If it's a Hyper-V virtual computer then I don't think you can install VMware Workstation on the virtual machine and run the nested clients.

You could do the opposite (invited running hyper-V in a workstation virtualized on vSphere) but is not very fast.

As you have no control over which platform virtualization Amazon use for their windows servers, I'm afraid you will have to go for a dedicated server instead of a virtual machine.

Hope this helps,

  • Problem installing vmware workstation on vista

    Hello

I searched for a solution to my problem since a few days, but nothing helped. I downloaded the version track Workstation 6.5.1 - 126130, but simply to install. I'm using vista ultimate x 64 and when I click on the exe, the control of such user account appears, I click on continue and then nothing. I went through a few docs on desktop and read I could install via a command prompt, I made this way using admin privaliges and get a fraction of a second flash on the screen for the installer, and then it turns off. Ive tried to launch the exe through compatabily xp mode and run as administrator. Ive tried the vmware reg cleaner just in case, but still nothing seems to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    rob77,

Welcome to the VMware Community Forums!

I have a similar setup at home (Vista Ultimate x 64 + WS 6.5.1), and the only thing I did to install it was a "Run As Administrator" by right-clicking the Setup file.  That and having disabled UAC.

Do you have any other VMware product installed on this system?  You can also run MSConfig to disable anything that isn't a microsoft program.  Here are the steps to msconfig in XP... it should be pretty similar to Vista (although there are a number of changes)

    To do:

Click Start--> enter "msconfig" (without the quotes)

Click on the ' services ' section.

Check the box for "hide all Microsoft services".

Select 'Disable all', then check again the VMware services

    Select the tab "start".

Select 'Disable all' then check again VMware startup items

Restart and test if the installation works.

    Kind regards

Hi akpraveenand welcome to the VMware communities!

Your laptop has Avast! Antivirus installed?  We have seen some recent reports of Avast! origin of the failure you see there.  If you have Avast! installed, you will need to uninstall temporarily to be able to install VMware Workstation (disabling Avast! is not enough).

If you use another system antivirus or antimalware software, it may be interesting to try to disable it during the installation of VMware Workstation.

Let us know if that solved the problem for you!

  • Cannot install VmWare Workstation [index.htm error]

    Greetings and respect, community.

I'm having a problem installing VMWare Workstation 7 or 8...

    I enclose the photos.

During installation, vmware1.jpg comes up with an error.

    Can you assist?

I deleted TEMP files. I changed the TEMP/TMP by default default path. I did everything that I could find about this error.

Windows 7 32 bit fully implemented to date.

  • installation of vmware workstation 6.5 on windows 10 error

After you install vmware workstation 6.5 on windows 10 it gets error and restart. Is vmware workstation 6.5 support windows 10? FAILED TO INSTALL. vmware workstation 6.5 on windows 8, 8.1 and 10 support. ALL SUPPORT. I still don't understand...

VMware Workstation 6.x do not support Windows 10 and will never support Windows 10.

VMware Workstation 6.x reached "end of support" four years, October 1, 2011: Matrix.pdf product lifecycle

We produce updates for release until its date of "end of support".  A product may not work properly with host OSes, processors or comments OSes that are not compatible with the product, especially the things that have been published after the date of "end of support".  We put a huge amount of effort to ensure that new hardware and operating systems works with each new major release of VMware Workstation, but we cannot go back and update any previous version of product to add support for all hardware and operating systems more recent.  If we tried to do this, VMware Workstation cost much more that it is today, simply because of the amount of work required to maintain!

You need to upgrade your installation of VMware Workstation to something more recent, or downgrade your host operating system to a version compatible with VMware Workstation 6.5.

    I hope this helps!

  • Cannot install VMWare Workstation on Windows 7 64 bit

I recently had to completely reinstall the operating system on a Dell Dimension 9200 with 4 GB of ram. There were originally 32-bit Vista installed by Dell. VMWare Workstation has worked well. I upgraded (in place) for Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and VMWare continued to work. Recently I had to blow the OS and reinstall. I reinstalled with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and now I can not install VMWare Workstation Version 7.1.1. I also tried an older version with the same problem.

I get the UAC prompt and then after some disk activity I get the Microsoft saying "VMWare Workstation has stopped working" giving options (found nothing) solution, close or debug dialog. I tried without UAC turned and no firewall with the same question.

Any ideas on how I can find this?

    Pete

Because I had to reinstall the OS, I went to 64-bit, because I have a few apps I need to write 64-bit to 64-bit (Server 2008 R2) that applications servers

You can run 32-bit Wokstation.  Still, you can virtualize a VM 64 bit on 32-bit workstation.  So do your apps in the virtual machine.

  • Questions to install VMware Workstation

Hello everyone and thank you for your interest in my post.  For the last 6 months I spent reviewing messages to build and run a secure Channel 5 on a laboratory at home and collected a lot of information.  Budget delays I am not near my goal I thought I'd be so I thought I would get something on my current equipment with VMware Workstation.

I got a 64 bit Windows 7 with Intel I7 processor gaming computer and wanted to add Workstation 8 or 9 now that it is out.  Finally, I would like to build some virtual labs, but now want to get running in the virtual world.

Help for the following questions would be appreciated.

1 install Workstation 8 on a Windows 7 64 bit computer or do a clean install on the computer and run a Windows 7 as a virtual machine?

If a clean install Workstation 8 or 9 is recommended how could I get my image of Windows 7 today converted to a virtual machine before the clean install?

Guess the question would be, is I there a VM tool that can convert an image of current computer hardware in a virtual machine so that I can run on a new installation of VMware Workstation 9?

    2. what steps should be taken to migrate from a hardware configuration to a configuration of the VM on the same box?

    3. what risks are there to lose data?

    4. what license issued or limitations can I exect meet when I create several virtual machines, alias windows, Linux and others?  Can you build and run several different VMS at the same time?

    5. return to the VM tools, I know on the side of Vsphere there are tools to create virtual machines for ESXi, but what tools are there for Workstation 8 or 9 build and run virtual machines?

That ye may know that my training and the ability to understand your answers I was in the field of information technology since 1990.  Currently, I am a network engineer and have experience as a non-virtuelle system administrator installs computer and server and operation.

Thanks again to all who help out.  I hope that once I get the speed I can contribute to the community as well.

    David

Since you are a "Network Engineer and have experience as a system administrator" then IMO shouldn't really ask!   How hard is it to type 'physical to virtual' in Google and get to VMware vCenter Converter?  Also read the documentation on it as well as VMware Workstation!   Yes I know you said "on non-virtuelle installs computer and server and operation" however do practically is fundamentally not different then do it physically, although with virtualization, there are additional methods that can be used, as using an ISO Image vs optical media to install from, etc.  Seriously with your course, you should be able to install VMware Workstation, browse and examine the different menu commands and create VM almost without having to read the documentation however takes the time to at least he skim initially and then jump in.    As a tip activate everything installs Windows without first installing VMware Tools, if you plan to install VMware Tools in the virtual machine, and wait until you are sure that you have configured as you want, and then select as appropriate.

One thing you'll need to do if you are using the latest version of VMware vCenter Converter you will need to select the correct mass storage controller as you walk through the wizard because it is by default in the IDE and you want LSI SAS with Windows 7.

  • Problem installing vmware in Ubuntu 11.10 tools

I've upgraded from vmware workstation 7 to 8 on a windows 7 pro workstation. I've added to my VM - 11.10 Ubuntu guest. Now I have a problem installing vmware tools.  That's what I did:

((1) installed Ubuntu 11.10 CD in the drive, 2) open vmware and Tools CD added to office.  (3) connect you open terminal window.and.  Since I'm new to Linux, I'm stuck on how to set a password.  I type sudo passwd root, and I can't type anything in the window.

Ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    You have two questions unrealated

    (1) with respect to the OS - Ubuntu 11.10 - these shoud guest invited on ubuntuforums.org Creafe a connection there and ask in the beginner's forum.

Tip - You don't really have need a password for root in Ubuntu.  Use you sudo to run root permisssions wherer programs are needed.  He said on top of each terminal.

    (2) you have any questions on how to install VMware Tools in a Linux (Ubuntu 11.10) Guest.  You most certainly need assistance with this.  In the toolbar of the program, you will see a tab called "Help".  It only contained other information you are looking for.

See the sections on VMware Tools.   They are really useful!

Tip: You do not use the OS installation disc that you used to create the virtual machine. Look closely under the VM tab at the top. There will be an option in the drop-down list that says "The Install Vmware Tools" you need to select this option.  The insatll will be mounted as if by magic in SLE directory/Media in the comments.  Copy the tarred on this cdrom in / tmp.  Then naviagate (carefully) in / tmp and unpack the file you copied.  Carefully change (look at you spelling - do what I say - not as I do in this post!) to the directoyrf that was created.  Exceute as su (i.e. root - like in the 1 trick.)  the .pl program wiil be contain breast.  Technically, this is called a "script" don't forget to put a. / before the script name or the bad dthing don't know he lives there.  He will ask youj on many issues.  Answer Yes to all these thatg you can.  Most likely, he will say he does not find the gcc compiler (gcc to learn more about the new program of thisbrfand the man.  He complains of missing headers.  Exit the script (Ctrl + c).  Run a progarlm (as root!) called apt - get.  Type the command apt - get install build-esseential.  Thatt is going to install the compiler you need!   Yes still needs to install the header ogical file well! Phew!  The best way I found to do this is to install a nifty program called synaptic. Use apt - get install synaptic.  I think that Ubuntu even comes with a somewahat more easy to program called apt - get it will tell you and have fun there no Super Powers mean if you type an incorrect order!   I digress from the subject.   So, you can use use "sudo aptitude install synaptic l.  Now issue the command uname - r.  He sleeps on the same kernel you use since I use Ubuntu 11.10 asI type while I'm about to uplgrade to the very scary Ubuntu 12.04.  You don't want to do it yourself.

    3.0.0 - 12-Generic

Now launch Synaptic.  There will be a message the first time on the program expalining.  If you want to see it every time to understand this program if y0ou forget don't check the box saying you don't wang to see this every time.  BTW youi will be asked for your root passworfd to run the program.  Hope you rfemembered it!

In any case in the search box copy, then paste the result above (one that ends with - generic - but anything copylthe) there will be l be a long list of items, but choose the one that has the string above and the word "headers".  Insatll who.  After all it can return to the order which took end. / pl and run it once more.  Answere questions.  It will end with the encouraging words (you can take advantage of the VMware Tools.  Then, run the command - vmware-toolbox as it says.

F well there you have it in short.  My price for Linux and Mwar advice is reawsonable please contact me at one of my addresses, alias - [email protected] and we can talk about payment.

  • How to solve the problem of VMWare Workstation 8 - unable to open/dev/vmmon

Initially, I had this problem in March 2011 after installing VMWare Workstation 7 on a lab machine 5.7 RHEL and attempt to boot an image I know was good and should work. .  Someone else fixed the problem for me - I think they had to install a new/different libraries (vmmon.o and vmnet.o for vmware).  However, I find no information detailing what has been done to solve the problem.

I see the same error on the same machine after upgrading to VMWare Workstation 7.0 for VMWare Workstation 8.0.

1 here are the mistakes I see:

    a. "Could not open/dev/vmmon.

    b. "failed to initialize the surveillance apparatus.
    c. "cannot change the power state of VM: cannot find a valid peers to connect to.

Also, when I run the stop etc/init.d/vmware, then run /etc/init.d/vmware start, I see that the State of "Virtual Machine Monitor" is DOWN.

Release of RedHat Enterprise Linux Server 5.7 (Tikanga)

The problem could be that the version of vmmon.o and vmnet.o that comes by default with vmware does not work with linux kernel version I have on my system.  I think I need to build a new vmmon.o and vmnet.o on my particular 5.7 RHEL.

I found that to build a new version of vmmon.o you Executive vmware - config.pl.  I have not just on my machine, and I was not able to find on the internet.

Here is the version of vmmon.o (for RHEL 5) that I have installed on my machine:
    /usr/lib/VMware/modules/binary/BLD-2.6.18-8.EL5-x86_64smp-RHEL5/objects/vmmon.o

Here is the version of rhel5 I use:
    2.6.18 - 274.12.1.el5xen
    It is possible that the vmmon.o using bld - 2.6.18 - 8.el5 - x86_64smp-RHEL5 is not compatible with the kernel 2.6.18 - I 274.12.1.el5xen.

    Hello and welcome

    I'll try this...
    Open regedit as an administrator
find the key VMware, Inc. - on 32-bit hosts which is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.
    It has a subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\Installer\VMware workstation
with a DATASTORE_PATH subkey that uses a value like "G:\\shared-vms".

If you set to a path that fits your needs, the installation can run.

While you're there... Check the permissions on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.
VMware Workstation installers like to mess up the permissions for this key
