  Hi, I have a few difficulties of implementation of the switch, I can't understand how to configure the network for VLANs created port. I have configured under management of VLANS, VLAN 10 and 20, I asigned ports e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6 with 10 PVID and e7, e8, e9, e10, e11, e12 with 20 PVID and the rest to defaul 1 PVID, frame SD = All + infiltration on filtering. I know that there is no option in the Port settings to define 'Access' or 'Trunk'... until this means? that the SLM224G does not support the VLAN Trunk? I saw some screenshots with the Linksys SLM224G and he had 'Access' or 'Trunk' setting... and Cisco does NOT work.  Help!

  By default vlan1 in most SRW series brother would then be not identified on all ports and vlan10 and vlan 20 could be labelled on the appropriate ports.

  A few days ago, we bought the computer with the following configuration:

  HARD drive 250GB Seagate 7200 RPM, 8 MB Cache, SATA300

  I decided to install ESX server 3i 3.5 free version, to test the program.

  During the installation, I got a message, offer the choice:

  Here, I have a problem, I can't make a choice, keyboard does not work. I tried several types of keyboards, and he gave no results.

• ESX Server 3.5 - strange time problems

  What is the final location, installing a new server ESX will pull its time to go?  It seems complete weird for me!  I just reinstalled the server that I use for testing because the clocks on my hosts are out of sync with ESX server 3 hours.  I know this only because whenever I restarted the clocks would become out of sync even once, I would manually fix them but if I restarted, then they would be out of sync again on restart.

  So I decided to start all over again and reinstalled.  I also noticed that the time on the BIOS was out of sync by 3 hours, so I fixed that, then during the installation, I used the GUI and ensured to this that all settings are correct.  I started and submitted my top vmdk files. Add a server to the inventory and ba-boom, it's always an hour out of sync!  If I put it to an internet time server synchronization in windows, it corrects itself, but is incorrect once again after a reboot.

  If I use VMWARE tools to synchronize with the host computer then the time is an hour off the coast.

  Please keep in mind, I'm a windows guy, this great process of setting the time using putty is a little hard to swallow.  Is there not an easier way to simply see what time the host uses and correct?

  First when you install it gets it from the BIOS. Then when you have done this, you will want to configure NTP on the HOST. This by going to the tab "configuration" and then "time Setup". You can use the following internet time servers (just put you company firewall or something else allowing of course) 0.pool.ntp.org 1.pool.ntp.org 2.pool.ntp.org. The implementation is very easy and it will make sense to you that you do. Also, it will make ESX for NTP firewall when you submit.

  So you want if sure is installed on your windows guests and the value of the box sync with the machine virtual host of the vm tool. Important, disable the windows time service.

  Do this and your windows host will keep time properly.

• Cannot ping my esx Server

  I hope you can help, this problem has been driving me crazy for some Richard now!

  Firstly a bit of history... We have a Compaq ML760 running esx 3.0.1 attached to 2 SCSI disk bays. On weekends, this system was powered down by our partners to outsource in replacement of the ups in the rack. When turning the power on it we lost communication with the inverter boards... a new case, few new readers and reconstruction of the RAID the latter we have an ESX that starts in the log on screen with no obvious errors.

  So, the problem is that since we cannot ping or connect to any other way of our ESX Server. Now, before that I have to go any further in my opinion, it is worth noting that I'm not an expert of linux/esx I know enough to login as root and run a few commands.

  I have read several discussions around this issue and none seem to apply to my situation. Not only did I not ping my ESX, when I log into the ESX I can't ping any device, even the entry door. I had a quick glance at the configuration (should not have changed during the upgrade of the UPS!) and everything looks ok to me, feel free to correct me, the info is here:! esxcfg-NICS.   Adam - I had a very similar problem in my test once environment. Everything was going well, all settings have been properly etc... but no connectivity ntwk. I had to remove my network config and rebuild. You can try just a little at a time to see if it works. Try to create a new vSwitch, move your top Service Console and assign a network adapter with the appropriate vlan information. See if it works then. That should give you an idea if there is a kind of corruption with the current configuration of ntwk.

• VLAN Trunking between 6248 and 2848

  I have a Powerconnect 6248 switch connected to a 2848 and I try to get a VLAN on the 2848.

  VLAN working and properly receive DHCP addresses, traffic lanes and DNS runs on the 6248.

  The Protocol DHCP, DNS server is connected to port 1 on the 6248.

  When I create a Trunk port on 3 the 6248 Port, allow all VLANS through it, creating a trunk on port 1 of the 2848 on VLAN10 and try to plug in devices inside, they can see all other devices connected to the L3 switch.

  The two switches are running the latest firmware and the L3 on his own works as expected. I can't get any kind of circuits working at L2, tried with normal cable and crossover switch.

  Here is the config of the L3 6248. Switch 2848 L2 has a blank canvas with 10 VLANS created on ports 1,2,3,4 with port 1 as the trunk port installation.

  Any ideas pleeease? Anyone? It drives me crazy.

  I hope that if someone else can use what it took me ages to develop. I plugged on Netgear switches etc and they seem to work.

  The issue was going on between the dell 6248 and 2848, Spanning tree is enabled on the default 2848. If I was going to the Netgear via the 6248, then at the 2848 switches worked.

  My config on the l3 also works very well if someone would use :)

  Wie ihr an den Versionen seht, wurde das Szenario recht und ich darf nun hand dress is stiefmütterlich. Are das Ziel und meine Aufgabe ist, die sich infrastructure auf die aktuellste mógliche (ESX 4.1 ware dies laut ESX Compatibility Guide U3) zu heben. Planned do ware:

  • -Host ESX al auf ESX Server 3.5 Update 5
  • -Removal of guest VMs auf vCenter Server 4.1.0.17435 und der
  • -Update auf der hosts 4.1 U3
  • -Squad der VMware tools VMs auf den

  Unless you use any application that connects to the host by using the credentials of the root, there should be no problem with changing the root password. Virtual Center uses its own (vpxuser) user to access the host.

• New ESX Server

  My company gives me a new server for my virtual environment.  I have 2 ESX server with 74 GB RAM each and the new server will have only 24 GB of RAM.  Is that going to cause a problem for my virtual environment?

  No, it will be all right, I have a configuration with 3 98Gigs servers and another with only 32 gigabytes, it gets just be allocated less machines due to the least amount of RAM.  Works very well.

  An ESX 4.1.0 server (Standard edition) think it is managed by our server to VC, but it isn't.

  When connecting to the server with an ESX VSphere Client, I am greeted with the message:

  I believe that the problem started in trying to add this ESX server 4.1.0 to our server VCenter 4.0.0

  This isn't a combination of supported, but the operation seems to have left the ESX with the VCenter Server Agent installed and configured server.

  I guess I'll upgrade our server VCenter 4.1 at a given time, but how to remove or correct the VC Server Agent on the host computer in the meantime?

• The "Console" tab fails on servers on a host ESX Server 3.5.0

  On one of our server VMware ESX 3.5.0 123630 hosts, I get an error message when I try to use the "Console" tab on the servers located on the ESX Server.
