Problem of Windows 7 open .exe files

Hello

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

First of all, I would like to explain that I'm useless with computers and would be very happy if any help could come in the simplest possible explanation please.

OK, here's the problem. Tried to open a .exe on my laptop (Windows 7) and it continues to open a box to ask what program to run with. I looked online, and it seems that it is a fairly common problem for windows 7. Have tried to use the advice provided on the website below:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950505

I went through the fix it you article, which is the only one that works for windows 7, apparently, and when I'll be at the point where I'm typing: "REG IMPORT Exe.reg' in the command prompt, it comes up with an error message saying:

"ERROR: error opening the file." There may be a disk or file system error. »

I have absolutely no idea of what to try now. Tried bugs download off of other sites and following their instructions, and they do not seem to work either. Have also tried searching under the error message I have met, but this does not seem to provide any help either.

Its really starting to annoy me, looking for just to play an old game and its transformation into a nightmare...

I'm a pc and windows 7 was clearly not my idea!

JESUS FINALLY! IF ANYONE HAS THIS PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS 7, THIS WORKED FOR ME:

2 copy BETWEEN these lines and paste it into Notepad - save as - encoding (Unicode) - exefileFix.reg.
then go to it to start - computer or Windows Explorer and right click on it and MERGER - REBOOT

  • I get a message saying "Windows cannot open the file...". »

I had a lot of problems with infections, so I was running many scanning programs.

After getting my computer almost completely cleaned, I ran the Super Anti-Spyware program.  We find 3 infections, which I'd delete (I don't have no way of knowing that I removed).

Since then, whenever I try to open a program, or even Windows Update, etc., I get a message saying:

"Windows cannot open the file.  To open this file, Windows needs to know what kind of program has created.  Windows can go online to search automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs.

When I go on the web, I get a lot of options, which are almost free scans that then charge for fixing.  I am also very scared that I can also get another infection from these sites.

I hope someone can help me solve this problem.

    StanEp

Yes, each method is a set of measures to try and then go ahead and try each one separate.

2 method will reset the executable (.exe) extension that will allow you to open programs. It is not clear what exactly you are trying to open so that it can have no effect.

Keep in mind that the damage caused by malware can be irreversible, in the case of relocations are necessary.

  • PC wants me to choose program to open .exe files in XP

Looks like your Windows file associations have to dispose. This means that XP is not
know what to do with the files by looking at the file extension (for example, .exe for executables,
    .doc for MS documents, etc.).

If you don't have it you, something done for you - most likely malware.

Go to this site WWW by Doug Knox:

    http://www.dougknox.com/

On the left, click on the Win XP fixes, file Association fixed and read the instructions at the top of the page.

Download the EXE File Association Fix on your desktop, unzip the file and apply it according to the instructions
from the top of the page, then reboot and test.

Run the following scans for malware, and then fix any problems:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

    Hi JRCLNSIN100,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

We would like to get some more information from you to help solve your problem. You better, please answer the following questions.

    ·         What is the disk you use to reinstall?

    ·         Is this a recovery or reinstalling the disc you are using?

    ·         When exactly do you get this error message?

    ·         What is the edition of Windows Vista, you try to install?

    ·         How old is the drive that you are using?

    ·         How are you starting the installation process?

After researching the error 0x8007000D code is essentially due to file corruption and a problem with the drive itself.

First check if you have scratches or dust on the disc and clean the surface and try again.

To check if the disk is wrong, you will need to copy the contents of the DVD to the hard drive and try to install using that.

To perform a flat installation of Windows Vista, follow these steps.

Note The hard disk must have at least 3 GB of free space on the disk for the Windows Vista installation files. The hard disk must have at least 15 GB of additional disk space to install Windows Vista. For more information about system requirements for Windows Vista, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/products/windowsvista/editions/SystemRequirements.mspx

    1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc.
    2. Start Windows Explorer.
    3. In Windows Explorer, click to select the drive for the Windows Vista installation disc.
    4. On the Edit menu, click select all.
    5. On the Edit menu, click copy.
    6. Click to select the hard disk you want to contain the flat installation files.
    7. On the file menu, point to new, click the folder, type Windows Vista Setupand then press ENTER.
    8. Double-click the Windows Vista Setup program, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
    9. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions that appear.

See the link below for more information on flat installation.

How to perform a flat installation of Windows Vista

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/928902

This problem can also occur if the firmware of the DVD drive is defective or obsolete.

If the step above does not resolve the question suggests that you install the latest drivers for the DVD player on the computer.

For more information please visit the link below.

If the problem persists, is there something special about how you start Firefox? For example, you have this launch in a security 'sandbox' or virtual machine? You have all the command-line options set to allow several simultaneous sessions of Firefox, or call the Profile Manager? If none of this sounds familiar to you, the answer is probably not.
