  • Problem with the start of VMware ESXi 5.0

I just installed VMware ESXi 5.0 on a new Cisco UCS B200 series blade with two 300 GB hard drives configured in a RAID 1 mirror.  I went through and completed the installation of VMware ESXi 5.0 on this server.  When the installation is complete and the server restarted, he did not initiate the ESXi where I can change the IP address and VLAN.  Instead, I get this text string after the initial boot sequence that is shown in the attachment.  I have a guest who said Shell > do not know why I can not start correctly in ESXi 5.0.  Thank you!  Paul

    Hi Paul,.

Looks like you boot to the EFI shell. What is the startup policy that you have configured on this server service profile? It should look like the one below.  If there is a problem with the boot order, you should be able to type "EXIT", then enter on the EFI shell to exit the prompt. If your startup is similar to the one below and you still experience this issue, try to downgrade and re - ack the blade.

Let me know if it helps.

  • Problems with the new host VMware ESXi 5.0

We have a dell blade chassis, with 4 710 blades and 8 610 the 710's have 12 network cards and the 610's have only 6 network adapters. I added a new host on one of the 610's and two network adapters in each of the networks belonging to virtual infrastructure. 1 mgmt 2. ISCSI 3. vmnetwork

My problem is that the new host can see all the resources but I can't move the VM from the hosts to the host 610 710. I get an error because nic 2 on the 710 host is not in the same network as nic 2 on the 610. It seems silly that I wouldn't be able to do that just because the hardware is not identicle.

I have three vswitches, vswitch0 for management, vswitch1 for the iSCSI network of shared storage, vswitch2 for the network of the vm.

    Thanks for any help.

Material is not identical not should not have an impact.

The vSwitch port group to which are connected the NICs in question is named identically on both hosts?  If they have a different name, vSphere considers different networks.

    Hello

    I have a pc I am building.

the motherboard is ASUS P8P67 Deluxe.

It includes 2 onboard network adapters:

    1 realtek network card.

    1 network adapter intel.

When I try to install vmware os it shows me an error that:

"no network compatible adapter found.please don't see hardware compatibility of the product (HCG) guide for a list of the taken addapters supported...".

    Help, please.

    Thank you.

    Ben.

The easiest way is to get a compatible network card. The "Intel Pro/1000 GT' for example is known as work and is affordable (about $ 30).

  • Access the console VM series

I'm trying to access a Linux VM console, using ESXi 4.1 serial.  Since the 4.1, a virtual serial port can be added via 'connect via the network', and then we should be able to Telnet or ssh to access the console series of the virtual machine.  I heard that someone did so successfully, however, I couldn't make this work in my setup.  Can someone please share their story of success?

Also, I also notificed that there is a virtual series concentrator on the market, which is basically a Linux VM.  For now, I'm not this solution not only because it's thousands of dollars, but also should not be other characteristics of fantasy in addition access conosle series of the virtual computer.

I'm trying to do something similar (although I want to drive a kickstart installation), and depending on what exactly you want to do, it might be possible.

You can get the prompt to listen on the ESX host by specifying the serial port by using the network, a server, and having a URI of tcp://0.0.0.0:10000 port

0.0.0.0 is the generic address (i.e. all the IP address on the ESX host) and 10000 is the TCP port. Starting the virtual machine, it will bind to port 10000 and you can then connect from the ESX host with netcat (the "nc" command), or open a port in the firewall, and connect to the network.

Direct connection of the ESX host:

    ESX # nc 127.0.0.1 10000

The open Firewall port and remote connection

    ESX # esxcfg - firewall - o 10020, tcp, in, series

    myhost$ nc esx 10000

It connects, but once you sign, you don't see any output. After the start of the guest from a picture ISO of RHEL and boot the kernel with the command line 'linux console = ttyS0, 9600' (to tell the kernel the serial console output), you can see the messages of the kernel for netcat startup, but you can not really do something like netcat session does not appear to pass over the keys like enter (I'm sure you can do it work, but I don't know how). You can work around this by changing the host configuration URI to serial port of tcp://0.0.0.0:10000 to telnet://0.0.0.0:10000 and by connecting to it with a telnet client.

Now you can usefully interact with the session of kickstart, but only * after * you include the serial console settings in the initialization of the kernel arguments.

To operate without intervention from the vSphere client, so it seems that you change the ISO boot to at least include the 'console = ttyS0, 9600' default argument.

It is a bit of a pain for me, because I expected to be able to drive the initial startup on a text interface without changing the ISO boot, since we use a wide range of distributions different kickstart based with different ISOs (don't ask...).

I don't know if this helps you, but don't forget that you can perform a kickstart installation on VNC. See the options "vnc" and "vncpassword" here:

    http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-us/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/HTML/Installation_Guide/ch-bootopts-x86.html

Although you should always provide an IP address and the location of the installation media. Furthermore, anaconda creates a script of kickstart recording how the installation was made in/root/anaconda - ks.cfg.

    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot access the Console remotely

Hey guys, I'm new to VM Ware and has difficulties to access the console remotely, even if I can access the Web Access page very well...

    The error I get is:

Unable to connect to the MKS: unable to connect to the host domain.com: no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused

When you search for an answer to this, I found a post that said to ensure that the /etc/pam.d/vmware-authd has been configured correctly, as well as the/etc/vmware/config...

None of these files/folders are there.

That said, my host OS is (unfortunately) of Windows Vista, with VM Ware running on top of that, and now I am trying to get Fedora Core 11 to present itself as the virtual machine.

Any ideas you can give would be much appreciated.

Sorry, I did not myself clear - its port 902 on the host that you need to check that you can telnet to because the VMware console connections are made using the host (so that they can still operate even when there is no network in the comments, for example at installation time), not to the guest directly (for client firewalls are not the parameters used either for the console). I guess that 8333 is fine, otherwise you wouldn't be able to connect remotely to the web console.

  • Cannot access the console of EM on SOA Suite 11 g (404 error)

I have installed SOA Suite 11 g on a new environment. The administrator of the server and the managed server (soa_server1) start without any error in the newspapers. However after getting started, I am unable to access the console business to http://Host/em because of the 404 handler. Interestingly, I can access the console of administration WebLogic at http://Host/console with no problems.

I have installed SOA Suite 11 g before on my local machine and have never had any problems like this before.

Is it possible to manually start to the top of the Enterprise Manager application? I've seen some advise in previous posts that mention the use of emctl (Enterprise manager command line control) However, this seems not applicable to the app of the MA that runs on 11 g WebLogic application server.

Troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

You can access the EM using URLs http://host:7001 / em.

But for the MS to be present in the area, you must have created your model Enterprise Manager domain is selected. I think, you have not done this step. Log in to your administration of WLS Console, Access deployments. Find an application named em '. If she is not there, then this is the question.

To get your domain extended with EM, follow these steps.
1 shut down your servers in the field.
2 call the configuration wizard ($ORACLE_HOME/common/bin/config.sh/cmd)
    3. choose the option Extend area. Select your domain.
    4. Select the model of Enterprise Manager. Complete the wizard.
    5. start your servers.

Now, you will be able to access the MS using the URL above.

There is no need of emctl in SOA 11 GR 1 material. From the server administrator will help you work in EM.

    Hope this helps!

I tried with and without SSH tunnel. Neither work. Any advise?

You can create a PDB files using the PDB self-service app, EM Express, SQL or SQL Developer directly. No net APEX strictly for that.

Network configuration / routing / two network interface cards / NAT - leased / dedicated Dell R210 running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

    Hello

I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

This dedicated server is rented www.online.net and sits somewhere in France. One of its network adapters have an IP public 62.210.177.20x. The other NIC is here, but I do not understand how it is configured. According to the www.online.net portal, the other NETWORK card has or should have an IP 10.90.116.20x. And I am obviously set up is to have some virtual machines running and be able to access the Internet. I have access to the console of the server Dell through iDRAC and since I could see, one of the network adapters in the IP is 62.210.177.20x defined, and the other has been shown out of service. I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2nd NIC. But that 2nd NIC had a red X next to it probably indicating that it was disconnected the 2nd form virtual switch. Today and now I have managed to access the ESXi console server through iDRAC, I bring the 2nd NIC, and now both network adapters are assigned to the virtual switch 1st . But I think that a NIC should be attributed to a single switch and the other card NETWORK on the 2nd switch. I'm just a desktop guy with enough knowledge to be dangerous J if you / someone put in steps how and where to set them up it... PLEASE

    Thanks in advance

    Network configuration

    • VMware vSphere Hypervisor is an "operating system" for pure virtualization and support NAT or routing. Therefore, only a real bridge configuration can be used.
    • To use a subnet additional IP must be configured as a router VM.

If I understand the above, I need to show some VM and set up as a router? If the virtual machine that will act as a router must have two network interfaces, where it is connected to a switch and the other to the other switch network card. Am I do? The YouTube video that suggested, but I thought that maybe / somehow ESXi can route packets between the two network cards, but from what I read, ESXi can route packets. Do I need to order an additional / extra / 2nd IPv4 address so that it can be assigned to the interface of the router?

I have a problem for my server to recognize USB devices.
VMware ESXi is installed 4.0.0 and 4.1.0 and in both cases, these devices don't notrecognize me.
The machines that I tested on Windows Server 2003, 2008 and even Linux and there nocase.

    Any solution or idea?

    Best regards

I had the same problem. You will also notice that there is no power to the USB

    Look at these two links:

    http://www.VM-help.com/esx40i/VMDirectPath/fix_config_issues.php

    http://www.VM-help.com/esx40i/VMDirectPath/USB_Setup.php

NB NB NB: the host chipset must support the passthrough option

After you have added all of my usb devices and after a reboot, my local host console was frozen and I could not access anything whatsoever. I did a repair and everything went quickly up and running and will now add each device for passthrough successively. (you will need to reboot the host after addind devices)

  • Access the SMB storage using esxi host and manage with MS server 2008

Hi there, I know the subject line can be confusing, but I didn't know how to explain what I need in the line object in such a short sentence.

in any case, I have a storage device SMB, a Promise VTrak M610P, which is attached to a blade server 1U HP through interface channels double Ultra 320 SCSI host. I can't configure the VTrak as a NFS, the only way to access logical drives is connected to a server via the scsi channels and using the operating system to share the drive and the shared disks.

I would use a server blade with dual ultra 320 SCSI host interface channels and connect the VTrak to this server blade. Then I would install ESXI hypervisor OS 5.5 to this server blade. I want to know is if the ESXI operating system will recognize the logical drives and if I create a virtual machine with MS server 2008 and see if the virtual machine detects logical drives, so that I can share the drives? I hope that I'm supposed to and if I'm not, please let me know what makes no sense, I will do the best to explain it better.

    Thank you

    Andy

So it turns out that there seems to be something wrong with vClient when you add a hard disk (virtual disk) to a virtual machine of size greater than 4 TB. Article VMware KB: value of range error message when you add more than 4 TB capacity discs in vSphere Client describes this if you encounter this problem, add the hard drive via vSphere CLI, CLI power or vmkfstools. So this seems to be a known issue on vClient. What I ended up doing was using vClient, creation of hard disk, adding to the virtual machine (size of the hard drive is to 5.45) and when I would get the error message on the DiskCapControl out of reach, I would just click OK and then finalize the creation of the hard drive on the virtual machine. Once the process is complete, I selected the virtual machine and noticed that he indeed added a new HDD size 5.45 TB even if he's complained about it. I pulled to the top of the virtual machine with windows server 2008 R2 installed and was able to create a new disk under windows and set it up as a shared drive on the network. Looks like vClient must be updated by VMware and correct this bug, if it's a bug that I think. Thank you for the help vervoort!

  • Upgrade of the 3 HP VMware ESXi 5.1 update kills Emulex network and cannot be cancelled?

    People,

I have a serious issue here after the upgrade of the HP Blade 465 BL c G7 with adapter Emulex NC551i double Port FlexFabric 10 Gb..

The problem: after the successful online update of ESXi 5.1 Update 2 Patch 5 (2000251) in ESXi 5.1 update 3 (2323236) the ESXi server cannot be crazy, or it can ping to the outside network, so she doesn't have to reconnect to the VCenter server.

    Software/Firmware version:

The version before the upgrade of the server are:

    ~ # ethtool-i vmnic0

    pilot: be2net

    version: 10.2.293.0

    firmware version: 4.9.416.2

    bus-info: 0000:04:00.0

    ~ #

Since the version above does not work, I managed to download VMW-ESX-5.1.0-be2net-10.2.477.20-offline_bundle-2541837.zip for upgrade the driver VMNic in: 10.2.477.20 but still after the update and restart the network is not able-ping.

    ROLLBACK:

I also tried to restore to previous work ESXi Server version 2000251 to the help of SHIFT-R but the ESXi server still restart as 2323236 with a network that still worked.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated without having to reconfigure the settings of ESXi and the configuration of the switch distributed from scratch.

  • Problem accessing the boot UEFI

I created a virtual 10 of VMware machine from a dd to a Windows 8.1 EUFI/GPT system image.  The host is 8.1 MBR/BIOS.  The original system is a HP Pavilion.  The virtual machine starts very well, and I can also start it from a key USB EUFI.  My problem is that I can't access the EUFI configuration in VMware.  I tried all of the suggested F keys and others.  I can access the EUFI in the original HP machine.  I know that I have consulted the EUFI in other virtual machines EUFI/GPT, but I can not in this one.  Thanks for your suggestions.

Oops, the screenshots I posted came from the Technical Preview of workstation, not 10 workstation...  But the screens you have posted are WS 10 equivalents to the EFI screenshot I posted.  Option Configuration enter would be an equivalent to your snap041.jpgscreen.

We do not have any option in our EFI allowing the Legacy Boot configuration.  (There is a way to activate Legacy Boot on our implementation of the EFI, but is prone to problems and incomplete, which is why it is undocumented and not supported.  I recommend that you don't continue this way unless you are willing to tolerate the possible data loss).

What you are aiming to use Legacy Boot the virtual machine for?  If it doesn't have a USB, your best option would be to edit the configuration of the virtual machine file to change firmware = "efi" firmware "bios" for now = you must start legacy and changing again later.

    Thank you
