• Problem with vCenter 5.1 (W2K8) & SSO without AD

  Hi all

  I have problems with my first experiences with vC 5.1 / SSO. I have a virtual machine running W2K8 + DNS but no ads. This is what I want and need. 5.0 had no problem with that, but in 5.1, I can't make everything work.

  Installation of SSO, the inventory service and vC (all 5.1), all this hard work and all the Associates services start. However, when I then restart the virtual machine, the vC service does not start, start services very well but no vC. It all started at the session of runtime install, but not after the restart of a virtual machine. By default use SQL Express installation options dbs SSO and vC have been taken.

  vpxd.log has a relevant error of:

  "Failed while trying to connect to the SSO Admin Server: no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

  DNS is all right, forward and backward. Despite the warning (attachment), SSO is happy to install without this AD.

  I don't understand why vC post install but then fail to start after reboot.

  Surely the vC (Win) 5.1 is not having to be in an AD domain?

  I did a few more tests to prove the change the start mode of services could solve the problem.

  Today I install VC with simple installation.
  After installation completed, before the reboot, take a sanpshot of the virtual machine.
  Restart the VC, Vcenter service failed to start as usual.
  Then go back to the snapshot before restarting immediately after installation.
  And changed the start mode of service,

  vCenter single sign on Service - automatic (delayed) automatic
  VMware vCenter Inventory Service - automatic Automatic (delayed)
  VMware vSphere Profile - Driven Storage Service - from Automatic Automatic (delayed)
  VMwareVCMSDS - from Automatic Automatic (delayed)

  then restart VC.
  Services started normally vCenter.

  If the sequence to start the service really matters!

• Problem with VCenter, and VM of not listed in the use of resources

  We recently had a problem with a power being pulled cable and now things are a little twisted...  We had to reboot our servers (ESX1 and ESX2) ESX and VCenter.   ESX1 said that HA had been disabled and restarting didn't help, so we chose the command to 'Reconfigure for VMWare HA'.

  And now, after he reconfigured, it's what we have: ESX1 12 virtual machines on it, and ESX2 4.  ESX2 shows consumption of the normal resources of the virtual machines that are on, however, ESX1 says that there are 3 VMs on, but none of them use ANY resource.

  I've attached a screenshot of what I'm going to have to explain.  It is not sensible.  I can connect to the VMs that are lit on ESX1 3, but as far as VCenter is concerned, they are not using any CPU or mem...

  Windows is a true multitasking operating system... It can START and LOCK at the same time!

  a few other things you can try would be to shut down a virtual machine, remove from the inventory, then "add to the inventory.

  Buffer Cache Hit Ratio is the percentage of sql server pages requested and retrieved from the buffer cache without reading disc.

  It is not necessarily a problem. A way to increase the buffer Cache Hit Ratio might be to increase the memory on the virtual computer. • I need some help please (web Vsphere client connection problem with Vcenter)

  I can not connect to the server via the customer web vicenter.

  I have installed and configured the following successfully:

  -esxi5.5

  -Win 2008 server1 (installed on AD)

  -Server2 Win 2008 joined to the domain, then I installed on: sso, inventory, customer web Vsphere and vcenter server service

  as you can see in the attached photos, when I double click on the client vsphere of wen I should be able to log on to the server vcenter, but I couldn't do it.

  do not forget that I logged Win 2008 server2 as a domain administrator, then I installed sso, inventory, customer web Vsphere and vcenter server service

  the WebClient service is runningand I tried https://server.example.com:9443 / vsphere client.

  There are more than two things, I noticed:

  -When I turned the web customer service I got the certificate error (see photo).

  -When I typed nslookup in the domain controller I got the error message.  web vsphere client error is related to the DNS error in the domain controller?

  Please register these two servers to the DNS entry field. and make sure both servers firewall set OFF mode.  If the production environment please check the network connection by using the network firewall team.

• vCenter 5.5 | In case of disaster, lost database tries to upgrade, vCenter blue screen and now problems with vCenter rebuilt.

  There was a bug in vCenter 5.5 (go figure) where he tried to access a file in "C:\users" for some strange reason, she refused to install/configure SSO.  It took hours of VMWare support to force it to install by copying files autour in hand, trying to get the installer to recognize the file she needed to 'C\users '.

  It turns out that this error during installation is created by the presence of one! my user name.  Support said they will include a fix for this in a future release.  They also said the errors generated during installation could be ignored.  Everything seems not to work regardless of errors generated during the installation process (simple installation).

  Best practices so that a VC Server VM on a host of multi with SAN storage environment must be available for the use of compatible hardware for VMotion or VCA VMotion.  If you do not have an environment that allow VCA to then I would say that the best practice is to have the VC server on a physical server - it can even be installed on XP.

• problem with vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1

  I have ower vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1 upgrade in December, somehow the version number is not right.

  The build number of the show is always 208111 if I trie to reinstall the update 1 only, I can completely uninstall the vCenter Server.

  So, the update seems to be installed anyway nor 100% corectly.

  The vCenter Server Loggenerator also shows me the 208111 build.

  Because of this I also can't update the last Patch1 for Update Manager.

  Way to go VMware... I love how just release notes say "run Setup". Of course, it was all buried a few deep records, not at the root of the zip file.

• problems with vcenter converter

  Not sure where I should this post but thought it was the best.

  I'm trying to convert a standalone desktop computer running Win7 Pro.

  Conversion powered on the local computer for VM Player 3.x.

  When I get to the screen data to copy options, there is nothing listed. (see attatched)

  Why are there not thing listed and how I can fix this?  I can't make a virtual machine without a hard drive to copy.

  I'm not sure, however, it may be worth trying to disable UAC and start the converter using 'Run as Administrator' in the pop-up menu (right click).

• Problem with OpenManage integration for vCenter - OMSA status: update required

  We have a problem with the configuration of OpenManage integration on a vSphere 5.5 U2 Cluster. We have deployed IMO for vCenter v 2.3.0 build 290 aircraft, and we have installed manually OMSA VIB v7.4.0.2 on our 5.5. U2 ESXi hosts.

  The question we face is respect for vSphere host - when we start the Wizard "Fix Non compliant vSphere Host" it displays the correct version of the OMSA - 7.4.0.2 but OMSA status is "required update".

  Whe test us the connection to hosts using "Test the connection profile", it hangs at 0% and will be never finished.

  Also in the OpenManage integration in vSphere Client "Frimware" tab option is grayed out.

  Please indicate how we can make this work?

  Well, I did some research more and found that ESXI 5.5 U1 and U2 don't are not supported by OMSA right now.

  ESXi 5.5 U1 and U2 are supported only for the OMIVV on the servers of 12th and 13th generation who are capable of out-of-band management and require no OMSA must be installed on the host system. We intend to add a supported of the OMSA version at a later date.

• Problem with registry vCenter CapacityIQ process

  I am trying to record the camera my 4.0 U1 installation vCenter CapacityIQ.

  The process fails with the error message "cannot find the value for the ciq_vc_va_id, 201 key field.

  I'm trying with vCenter IP address and domain FULL name and credentials used are administrator.

  Not sure if relevant but the unit is currently DHCP.

  I have attached a perl script that will delete the custom field that has entered an invalid state.

  Directions for use:

  1. download the file remove_custom_field.pm

  2. copy this file in the directory ciqadmin on the BC home

  If you are on a Unix machine, so you can use SCP: scp remove_custom_field.pm ciqadmin@CIQ_VA_IP :~/

  3 SSH on GOING and change the permissions of file for the file. chmod 744 remove_custom_field.pm

  4. run the script like:

  Perl remove_custom_field.pm VC_IP VC_USERNAME VC_PASSWORD

  For example, perl remove_custom_field.pm 10.20.178.32 my_user_name my_password

  Now, try to save CapacityIQ with vCenter or from the portal administration or the command line.

• Downing, one of my three guests will cause problems in vCenter?

  I need to update the firmware of the controller on my three hosts. The production server only virtual machine that we currently have a very low maintenance window. So I stopped all the virtual machines on the same host I can then shut it to the bottom/update the firmware on this host without causing problems with the rest of the vCenter environment? If I'm able to do, I have another question. Once guests are updates that are not hosting the production server I could move the production server VM to one of the servers updated until the host is updated and then bring him back?

  One of the reasons for getting a cluster is to avoid downtime in the event of a failure of the host, and/or maintenance. As long as the remaining guests have enough resources (CPU, memory) to run more virtual machines, there will be no problems.
