program files contains an invalid character

Whenever I try to install sony vegas it comes up saying "program files contains an invalid character" and it will not be installed. There is enough space on the hard drive and it seems to be only vegas that will not be installed. All solutions? Thank you.

    Hi Kurt wolfe,

This happens because the value type for the wrong shell folder, or due to incorrect data in the registry. To resolve this problem, solve the My Pictures Shell folder paths in the registry accordingly. The default values are given in a column in a table in the following article. There is also a REG fix available on the next page:

Windows stores the location of special folders by user under the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER-Software-Microsoft-Windows-CurrentVersion------Explorer------user Shell folders

Microsoft has a Fix - It solution that fixes most of the paths of shell (shell by both user and computer files) folder automatically. You can download the fix from.

  • One of your filters uses a custom header that contains an invalid character.

When I send an email, you receive the following error message:

«One of your filters uses a custom header that contains an invalid character, such as ':', a nonprintable character, a non-ascii character or an 8-bit ascii character.» Please change the msgFilterRules.dat file, which contains your filters to remove characters not valid in your custom headers".

It is followed by a message saying that the email was sent and saved despite the error.

The problem occurred after the transfer to 10 Windows (from Win 7)

I deleted all files msgFilterRules.dat and all filters, but the message persists.

Any suggestions on what else to try?

  • Can someone tell me please how to fix this - error 1324. the my documents path contains an invalid character

    Fellows,

I use a laptop running Vista Ultimate 64 bit and I have problems installing some software.  I get the following error: "Error 1324. The My Documents path contains an invalid character.'  I went through all the registry fixes and redirection of My Documents but I still get this error.  Anyone can shed light on this problem, as I see a lot of blogs out there, but no resolution.

    Hello NetSysAdmin

You can search the Windows registry for the invalid character that is displayed in the 1324 error message and replace all occurrences of the invalid character with the correct character. For example, if the 1324 error message refers to "system32 /", you should look for "system32 /". If you find all instances in the registry, change them, so that the registry values correctly reference the System32 folder.

    1. Click Startand then click run. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. On the Edit menu, click find.
    3. In the Search box, type the string reported in the 1324 error message, and then click Next.
    4. If you find the problematic channel, make the necessary changes, and then press F3 to find the next occurrence.
    5. Repeat step 4 until you find and replace all incorrect references.
    6. On the registry menu, click exit.

Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

I am upgrading to Windows XP.  I have a MacBook Pro with Parallels Desktop 5 installed.  I have this computer configuration with two users and that you have successfully installed Windows 7 Home Premium (retail version 3 critical lic) to the user.  When I tried to install Windows 7 via Parallels on the second user I came across the answer file contains an invalid product key.

  • My copy of windows is not genuine, apparently, and my product key contains an invalid character

I use this computer for over a year with no problems, but when I started it today, my product key was apparently not valid. It contains either one I have either a 1, neither of which is a valid character. Is that what I can do about it?

If you encounter problems reading your product key on the label, try a flashlight and a magnifying glass.

    My understanding is...

Of the 36 Latin and Arabic, used numbers in most of Western Europe
languages, 24 seem to be used for current product codes and 12 are not.

    The 24 used are:
    2346789BCDFGHJKMPQRTVWXY

    The unused 12 are:
    015AEILNOSUZ

According to police and the used letter cases, this reduced set is usually
without ambiguity, but knowing that the members it certainly may be useful.
Microsoft usually uses uppercase for printing / display of the distribution, and
It doesn't look like they have been specially selected to minimize the chances of
confusion and also, I believe, to avoid accidentally generating
offensive - looking sequences of characters. The model is easier if you look
the characters not used like this:

    AEIOU 015 LNSZ

  • Installation of Java 1324 error - invalid character

It's SO frustrating. Every time I try to install Java, I always get the error message: "Error 1324. The AVG Plugins path contains an invalid character. »
I remember a folder named 'AVG Plugins' but it is eliminated for some time now and it was located on an external hard drive. I have no idea why he decided to blame for its failure to install on a particular file. Well, I'm sure that the folder has had a registered symbol (®) in its folder I can see where its getting the part "invalid character" of... Before it was deleted, the Plugins of AVG file contained Java installation files, but I deleted them eventually if I could reinstall it on my hard drive. I remember at one point, Java was working fine once again, but after some problems with MP3 Rocket (which depends on Java), I deleted Java and once again tried to reinstall... Which doesn't of course.

At first I thought that I would just change the destination folder but I tried to save now on many places, but I always get the same exact error message, with the same exact file mentioned (AVG plugins). I tried to install Java the way normal and in one end offline installation, I get finally to the same error message. Can someone help me please?

Here is part of an old MSINFO report (at the time when Java was installed in AVG Plugins). You can see that Java appears several times in the folder "Plugins AVG", which may have something to do with this current error message... Also, some Java files see the place in my control panel, but I'm unable to uninstall the. Let me know if this is something that I need to study in detail in order to solve this problem...

    Hello

    Method 1:
You can disable the anti-virus installed on the computer and then try to install java and check:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2:
You can also try the steps in knowledge base article and check the:

I'm trying to play age of Empires 3 on my computer running windows vista Home premium and the program does not start. I get the error message: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III\d3dx9_25.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error." I tried many suggestions from Microsoft (resettlement program, reinstall in safe mode, update & reinstall the drivers for my video card, the compatibility issues with vista, updating and reinstalling directx 9.0 c, install vista service packs 1 & 2) but nothing has worked so far. I was able to play the game on the same computer with windows xp installed (it's a different hard drive that is not in the computer, and everything is the same) and it worked fine. Hi Raygun55,

Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

This problem may occur if the Microsoft DirectX file that is mentioned in the error message is damaged or is not copied correctly.

I suggest that you copy the file manually by following the steps and check if you are able to play the game without any problems:

    Manually copy the file

To do this on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps:

1 insert the disc 1 CD for one of the following games into the player from the computer:

    o Age of Empires III

    o Fable: The Lost Chapters

    o Zoo Tycoon 2

o Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends

    2. click on start to reduce this includes this image and then click Documents.

    3. Locate, and then click computer.

    4. search and then click on the CD drive.

    5. Locate and then click the following folder:

    CD player :\ DirectX9

Note In this folder path, the CD player represents the drive letter of the CD drive.

6 double-click on Apr2005_d3dx9_25_x86.cab, right click on d3dx9_25.dlland then click copy.

In Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, double click Aug2005_d3dx9_27_x64.cab right-click d3dx9_27.dlland then click copy.

Note Use the Apr2005_d3dx9_25_x64.cab file for the x 64 version of the Windows operating system.

    7. find one or more of the following folders, depending on the games that are installed on the computer:

By car : \Program Files\Microsoft: Age of Empires III

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of legends

Note In these folder paths, drive represents the letter of the drive where the game is installed.

    8. right click on the folder of the game which is the part that is installed on the computer, and then click Paste.

Note If you have installed more than one game on the computer, repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other games.

You can check the link for more information: error message when you try to start a Microsoft game: "the file d3dx9_XX. DLL was not found": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910813

Alternatively, you can try to install the game in XP compatibility mode and check if you are able to play or not.

Right-click on the game > click Properties > click on the Compatibility tab > select for XP compatibility mode > click OK.

  • MSASCui.exe bad Image... C:\Program Files/Windows Defender/Mp.Rt.Mon.DLL is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.

Original title : A major problem with Windows Defender... will not run :(

When I go to run Windows Defender, I get this message: MSASCui.exe bad Image... C:\Program Files/Windows Defender/Mp.Rt.Mon.DLL is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try to install the program by using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the provider of software for support.  Then, after clicking OK, you get another small window saying "Windows Defender User Interface has stopped working... Search for an online solution and close the program (which does nothing) or close the program.    WHY?  McAfee scan says there is nothing wrong with the computer... There is something wrong. Impossible to get websites to find, or they are very slow.

I have VISTA Home Basic edition, Emachine, bought 32 year THAT VISTA was released this January.

That is to say 9 - seems to work better than 8 (which took awhile to do)

SP2 is installed and I believe that most, if not all the updates are installed.

Oh, and no matter what flash supported won't run... little is a nice way of saying. My flash player update. It is mess up until I had to update. :(

Try the suggestion of Azam K.  If this help not to do the following:

McAfee should have disabled Windows Defender.  If not, or if you did turn back on, you must turn it off.  http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Defender-on-or-off   Windows Defender cannot be uninstalled from the Vista OS, but can be disabled to avoid conflict with other programs.

You will probably need to uninstall Flash and reinstall it: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/

I don't really like to make a negative comment on an anti-malware program, but McAfee has a reputation for sometimes bogged down operating systems.  If your problem persists, you will need to uninstall McAfee (to include using the McAfee removal tool) and see if that has any impact on your computer problems.  If there is an improvement, you may consider trying another program BC
