Program files is damaged, or unreadable

I get the following message is displayed:

The file or the directory c:\program files is damaged and unreadable run chkdsk utility.

I tried to run chkdsk many times but cannot enforce. I planned that it runs when you restart the laptop that she keeps asking but nothing happens, and the same message keeps reappearing. Does that mean I need a new hard drive?

FYI, you can always buy new computers Win7.  It should close the sales departments that sell to businesses.  These guys are well aware that a businessman isn't about to buy Win10.

From what you say, you are probably unable to start Windows.

In this case, when you start the computer, keep tapping the key "F8" on the keyboard until the Advanced menu comes up. Then choose "Safe Mode".

You will see something like your ordinary, here to enter office "chkdsk volume: /f" (replace with your hard drive volume, in most cases, it's 'c') at the command prompt.

  • All Users Temp damaged and unreadable

Recently, every time I play a game on my computer or open a program that writes to a specific folder, I get a message that the file is "damaged and unreadable.  The folder is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Temp.  I can't open the folder as he calls the same message "corrupted and unreadable" However right click and checking the properties of the folder say it is empty.

    Things tried so far:
chdksk that indicates the volume was dirty, cleaned the inconsistencies, no bad sectors.
    has ran diagnostics hard drive which is no problem;
    ran scans with antivirus/antispyware programs updated (all results were clean);
Defragment the hard drive and ran the system cleanup.

My computer is fully patched with all Microsoft Security updates and hardware drivers are up to date.  I am running Windows XP Home edition, with 2 GB of RAM, processor 2.79 GHz, 110 GB hard drive with 83 GB free.  Does anyone have an idea re: this may be the cause and how can I solve this problem?

    Thank you.

I just wanted you to know, I have used Hirens to begin the GUI miniXP and was able to delete the TEMP folder to use.  Then, I ran chkdsk /r again and rebooted.  The folder was gone and I hired no additional error of all programs opening who was writing in this folder.  And each several reboots, the record has yet to appear again.

I have no explanation how this folder appeared and executable program wrote it, but I suspect that the hard drive could be on the way, despite the chkdsk and hddiagnostics say otherwise.

Everything is saved and I'm ready to install a new drive if the worst should happen.

Thank you for all your help with this strange problem.  I certainly appreciate.

  • Removal of damaged and unreadable files

After recovering from a failure of the HD, restoration has added a few corrupted files. I can't remove them and have used all of the methods suggested, I could find (for example, chkdsk, disk cleaner, unlocker, safemode, Hiren BootCD)? Apparently the failed drive content/caused some files to become corrupt were then copied to the backup file and more later restored corrupted.

I replaced the defective drive and then restored from a backup, Acronis. The Documents and Settings folder found \temp so I could copy the files needed for new Documents and Settings. Everything seemed to have worked fine until I tried to remove the Documents and Settings is no longer necessary to \temp. Now, I have a number of different files in \temp which cannot be deleted. Error when I try to remove one of the offending files is "cannot delete [filename]: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

Can someone suggest another method to clean up this mess short of reformatting the new drive and reinstall again? TIA.

    Hello

    ·         Do you have an error message when you run the disk check?

I suggest to run the check disk in safe mode and check if it helps.

WARNING: When Chkdsk detects problems with the file system and tries to repair the damage, data loss may occur. Microsoft does not recommend running Chkdsk with the /f command-line switch unless you have a full backup of your hard drive.

Attempt to repair the damaged file, the folder or the index system using check diskfile. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) click Startand then click run.

    (b) in the Open box, type chkdsk /f :, where is the letter of the drive on which the file is damaged, the folder or the file system index exists.

    (c) click Yes to schedule disk check when the computer is restarted.

    (d) restart the computer and let the disk check run and check.

NOTE: If the hard disk is large, Chkdsk may take several minutes to several hours to complete.

  • damaged or unreadable file

My problem with these files unreadable or corrupt, it's that they are connected somehow to my iTunes application. He's been close a months ago that my problem with iTunes started. The app will not retain the library on the app between sign - on. I did the following (not necessarily in this order):

1 uninstalled iTunes (in order of iTunes, yes every step) and reinstalled iTunes at least 3 times. I even upgraded to the most recent upload Saturday hoping that a fix or something.
    2. I posted on the apple forum. Not an answer. Many points of view. Boo.
    3. I ran the disk check. Also several times.
4 restart the computer in "safe" mode Tried to delete the files. Always 'impossible to delete corrupt or unreadable files.
My music files are stored on an external hard drive, so I have not lost any music. I know! And it plays fine on iTunes if I load a file or 2 to listen to, but can not sync with iPod. I am short of ideas also ask google to search. Can someone give me something that I have not tried?
I am very good following the directions. The only security I have on the computer is MSE. In March, I had major problems & someone to malwareremoval.com with me through a process of 2 weeks of cleaning of a viral attack. We moved most of the files on the disk "D" to help drive "C" CPR. Very good worked til about a month ago.
My computer is old. Around 1999. Updated to XP and have MS update. Also recently (Sept) access is returned to the humble DSL fiber optic internet. It was a gesture of 1000 miles. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.
    Thanks for your help!

Without knowing which file he thinks is unreadable or corrupted, it is difficult to solve.  You could try downloading/running "Process Monitor".  This will display all the disk access and whether or not they are successful.  Of course, it will throw a lot of information to you that you will have to sort through, but must indicate failed disk access attempts...

    Hey Bcoons21,

This issue would be better addressed by Apple, as the program file is related to their software. You can contact through this site:

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

I'm trying to play age of Empires 3 on my computer running windows vista Home premium and the program does not start. I get the error message: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III\d3dx9_25.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error." Hi Raygun55,

Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

This problem may occur if the Microsoft DirectX file that is mentioned in the error message is damaged or is not copied correctly.

I suggest that you copy the file manually by following the steps and check if you are able to play the game without any problems:

    Manually copy the file

To do this on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps:

1 insert the disc 1 CD for one of the following games into the player from the computer:

    o Age of Empires III

    o Fable: The Lost Chapters

    o Zoo Tycoon 2

o Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends

    2. click on start to reduce this includes this image and then click Documents.

    3. Locate, and then click computer.

    4. search and then click on the CD drive.

    5. Locate and then click the following folder:

    CD player :\ DirectX9

Note In this folder path, the CD player represents the drive letter of the CD drive.

6 double-click on Apr2005_d3dx9_25_x86.cab, right click on d3dx9_25.dlland then click copy.

In Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, double click Aug2005_d3dx9_27_x64.cab right-click d3dx9_27.dlland then click copy.

Note Use the Apr2005_d3dx9_25_x64.cab file for the x 64 version of the Windows operating system.

    7. find one or more of the following folders, depending on the games that are installed on the computer:

By car : \Program Files\Microsoft: Age of Empires III

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of legends

Note In these folder paths, drive represents the letter of the drive where the game is installed.

    8. right click on the folder of the game which is the part that is installed on the computer, and then click Paste.

Note If you have installed more than one game on the computer, repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other games.

You can check the link for more information: error message when you try to start a Microsoft game: "the file d3dx9_XX. DLL was not found": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910813

Alternatively, you can try to install the game in XP compatibility mode and check if you are able to play or not.

Right-click on the game > click Properties > click on the Compatibility tab > select for XP compatibility mode > click OK.

Let me know if it worked.

  • Error 1335: Data1.cab corrupt or the source file is damaged and can not download

Recently I formatted my hard drive and installed windows xp professional 64-bit and had no problem installing updates automatic and all my drivers but then a few reboots later, after installation I started to receive an error message saying "the source file is damaged" or "the cab data1.cab file is corrupt and cannot be used. I tried to install programs on different browsers, removing all my temporary files and choosing a different download location.

    Thank you very much

    Cort

    Hello Cort Adkins,

Issues such as this error, "the source file is corrupted" is usually a RAM problem. If you have several sticks of RAM, removel, restart and test.
It is best to test a bar at a time until you find the one that is causing the error to corruption.

Go to the Start button and in the search box, type in memory. This will bring up a Memory Diagnostic Test.
You can also test RAM using an application like Memtest.

Please answer back with an update and let us know if it helps.
