program has encountered a problem

I installed a new program and when I try to start it, a message appears that the program has encountered a problem and needs to close. It has been suggested from the supplier of the program to create a new profile, and then try again. I did and the program works without problem.  Getting back to my user profile, the program will be without operation. The two profile are administrator accounts.
I use Windows XP home with all updates installed.

How can I fix the problem so that it will run the program on my original profile as I don't want to start configuring the new profile to work as my old profile? A tedious job.
Any other ideas?

Hello Bill, lost

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers forum.

Sometimes, a user profile will become corrupt mainly programs that release the handle when the program is closed. Over time, this will cause the profile become corrupt, and the best way to do this is to create a new user account and hover over the old files.

Copy files to the new user profile

1 log on as user (account Adminstrative) other than the user whose you copy files to or from the profile.
2. in Windows Explorer, click on Tools, Folder Options, click the view tab, click show the hidden files and folders, clear the Hide protected operating system files check box and then click OK.
3. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and where ancien_nom_utilisateur is the name of the profile to copy user data from.
4. press and hold down the CTRL key while you click each file and subfolder in this folder, except the following files: Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, Ntuser.ini
5. on the Edit menu, click copy.
6. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\New_Username folder, where C represents the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and New_Username is the name of the profile that you have created.
7. on the Edit menu, click Paste.
8. close the session and log in as a new user.

A way to keep profiles become corrupt is a utility called user - UPHClean profile cleaning.
Download it from the location here. This will force the handles to be published and the damper closed when the program is closed.

I hope this helps.

I'm still going through the example, but since the error ocours sporadicaly this could take some time to identify the error.

I was browsing the code and I was wondering about simple things, like:

-J' have many local variables, could it be the cause protected by some kind of error?

-Since I use dll on my code, is there a way to make sure that all DLLs are loaded and unloaded properly?

My program has a TAB with a simple UI of TestStand and when I change the tabs I close the user interface for teststand. When I use this UI I have load and unload DLLs of same that I use on other tabs, i. e., when you use the UI I load all DLLs that communicate with devices and when I change the tabs I unload all DLLs because on each separate TAB I can control these indicidually devices.

It's a little hard to explain, but I think I managed

Is there a grain of truth on my questions? If so, what could I do?

There are two approaches you can take.

One solution: you can copy files into smaller "chunks" until you identify the file that causes the error, and then try to find out what is the problem with this file.

Another solution is to download the program "Robust copy" (Robocopy) to Microsoft and it allows to copy your files.  You download and install in the Windows 2003 Resource Kit (works fine on XP).

    Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit:

Once installed, you can open a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") and enter the command:
    Robocopy "C:\photos" 'E:\photos' /R:5 / s
Where "C:\photos" will be replaced by the source directory, and the 'E:\photos' is the destination directory.  the "/ S" option will copy the subdirectories and the R:5 option retries 5 times on error before moving on to the next file.  Errors should be displayed on the screen and I found errors of command line to be more descriptive than GUI errors.  There are a lot more options, but this should help you get started.
