How can I reset each the program shortcut on my desktop and quick launch of their respective programs?

    Hello Buttone,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers Forum.  You can reset the default programs related to extensions by clicking on start, Control Panel, programs, default programs, and then click on associate a type of file or Protocol with a program.  Find the file extension that you want to reassign and click on it to make it appear highlighted and then click on change program button. This will allow you to change the default program assigned to this file extension.  I hope this information is useful.

    Thank you

Folder "CyberLink PowerDVD 9" is placed on the list of all programs on the start menu.

Now I have two folders "CyberLink PowerDVD 9" in all the programs one at the root of the list and the other in the folder 'Media' from the list.

How to stop windows 7 to change the list of all programs on the start menu?

Is it only occurs for the shortcut of CyberLink, or perhaps for each shortcut where you changed a location?

You can check this: Start > right click on all programs > you can select Open and open to all users > you can check is not listed in the two location?

  • all my Start menu programs were dashed when cleaning an infection on my XP PC. The computer starts well. Is it possible to restore program shortcuts

My PC has been infected evil and right after that I typed my password, some malware would take over. I was able to use Avast to get rid of the infection, but now when I go into my Start menu there is no visible shortcuts, and when I click on the programs of the window is empty. Is it possible to restore the programs in the program menu.

    Hello

These problems occur if the value of the Start Menu common registry entry is inaccessible or if the value is not valid. In this case, Windows XP cannot initialize the shell program.

The fix of the below article can be useful.

Yes, I have windows 7, and it's a little corrupt (maybe)

Google earth, firefox and more. so I thought whats wrong with my windows 7?

my windows 7 already cured by the virus, and abnormal activity arises.

example: what firefox installation, a pop-up appears: "cannot continue the error code [code]" and I tried to run as administrator, firefox has been installed successfully.

and disappear from the image (animation windows 7) and old bar of start (like windows XP) appears.

I think my computer is virus-free. There is no problem in the connection, games, etc.

  • Cannot change the path to the program shortcut? Bad location targets after Regedit

    Hello.

I hope someone is able to help. I recently bought a new PC that I decided to run Windows 7 on once more, with a personal dislike for Windows 8.

The system is running 1 SSD for the OS and 1 HARD disk for other programs and files. Want to separate my OS from my HARD drive as much as possible, I searched these forums for a solution to allow me to place my Program Files and Program Files (x 86) on the HARD drive.

In doing so - I found a Regedit solution which involved editing Reg keys under %systemroot%\syswow64\regedit 2 - I changed the ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir (x 86) values so that they are now pointing my F drive on my C drive.

However, in doing so, I have found that although the programs install okay--when a shortcut is generated on the desktop and in the start menu, the path does not match the location of the files and rather oriented towards the drive C. I tried to go into the properties of the file itself and editing shortcuts so that they point to drive F - however support apply and okay - the path back to its previous C disk State , despite it clearly edition there are moments.

Anyone had similar? Is there a solution I'm missing at this point? I'd love to hear it!

I right click on the icon, click on remove, then OK and get messge this file is no longer located at the location try again. Tried to drag the trash - same result icon.

    Hello

Try this: open the file/Options/Display Control Panel tab and change the options to display the hidden files and folders and uncheck the line to Hide protected operating system files. Click apply/ok. You should now be able to see one or two files desktop.ini on the desktop. Delete both, then logoff all accounts (everything must be in user switch mode) and reconnect. See if the icon is still there. If so, repeat the steps above but reboot after deleting the files. • Programs for the shortcut icons on the desktop of the user different?

My adult son and I are two Admins on what is basically a computer. I try to keep a very clean desktop so that I can easily find any new DOCS or IE shortcuts.
We each have our own connections. He installed games with CD and when I connected and found new icons for its games on my desk, I deleted them. But then he told me that they had disappeared from HIS Office too, so we had to go out of the Recycle Bin.
What is the only way that Windows XP work? I had always thought that each user has been mainly in charge of their own office, so it makes no sense to me.

Everything you see on your screen is just a shortcut or icon of a folder on your system, and there is a folder on the desktop that applies to all users (everyone gets those) and another folder in the office that applies to all users for things that belong to them.

When certain things are installed, they ask if you want the new program will be available for all users or just the current user (logged).

If you install for all users, shortcuts and icons will settle in the all users desktop folder.

If you install for just you, shortcuts and icons will settle in your desktop folder.

What you see on your desktop, it's all desktop users folder and your desktop folder combined.

What your adult son sees on his desk, is the all users desktop folder and its combined desktop folder.

If you install and tell the facility to apply to all users, shortcuts and icons to put in the desktop folder for all users - everyone sees them.

If the installed program shortcuts and icons in the all users desktop folder (and each user sees) and if you remove if from your office, you are also removing the all users desktop folder, then they are removed for everyone.

What you see on your desktop being things just in a folder, you can navigate to your folder office and add/remove things from him, just like any other folder (and therefore cannot your adult son).

If you have access to all the users desktop folder and add/remove things that will affect all the folder on the desktop.

If your installed program does not require and has just put all the stuff in the all users desktop folder (so everyone sees them) and that you don't want to see such things, cut the shortcuts in the all users desktop folder and paste them into your grown son file and then only he will see them.

Don't forget - what you see on your screen are just shortcuts and icons in a folder (s) that you can manipulate using including cut, copy, and paste.

  • Shortcuts to programs, EXE files does not open (you will be asked which program I want to use to open the file)

My system has developed a strange (and annoying) issue that no longer allows me to double click on the shortcuts of programs or EXE files.  When I do, I give myself a menu asks me what program I want to use to open the file, as if I was trying to open a file with an extension that is not associated with.

The only way to get all the programs to run more is to right click on the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".

Right click on the shortcut also reveals a new 'momentum' (Yes, spelled with one S tiny) option in the menu.  I have not tried it works, in my view, it could be related to some false recently-removed security software that appeared out of nowhere last night.

Any help to remedy this situation and get back to normal functionality would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

If program shortcuts are not no longer works, you will need to use a procedure special difficulty fo files .lnk (similar to the one used above with .exe files).

Go to http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/reset-and-fix-broken-windows-vista-file-ext-and-type-associations-include-exe-com-sys-zip-lnk-folder-drive/ and select the .lnk and run it.  That should fix your shortcuts.  Or you can use the link provided above by Michael Murphy - it does essentially the same thing.

    I hope this helps.

  • Shortcut to open a program in a new window in the splash screen?

I find it rather annoying that windows 8 refuses to open a new instance of a desktop app when I click again in the start screen.   If I for example several 'guests order', I have to go to start, right click on command prompt, click Open in a new window.   It's quite embarrassing.   I don't see that there is an option to remove this restriction.  It may be wise for the Metro style applications open 1 single instance, but it is not appropriate to impose this restriction on desktop applications.

Can someone give me a registry hack or an option of control panel to fix this annoyance in the splash screen?
For now, I added programs like a toolbar that is separate in the taskbar of office, so that I can open multiple instances without using the start screen.  For every reading, you can do so by right-clicking the taskbar, uncheck the lock all bars of tasks, do a right click again and click on toolbars-> new toolbar and drag on new program shortcuts.

    Hello

When you open an office application, an icon for this app will appear on the desktop taskbar.

Click on icon and select application name, near the bottom and this will open a new instance of the application.
