Missing program shortcuts

Turned my computer and my program all the shortcuts were gone, what I can do to get back them.  Tried clicking and clicking on "send the desktop does not work, went in 'customize' and makes this route, nothing."  I am at a loss to know what to do.  Help.

Hi Doreen J,.

1. what operating system is installed on the computer?
2. don't you make changes to the computer before the show?

Method 1
I suggest you to check if the shortcuts are hidden

Show, hide, or resize desktop icons
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/show-hide-or-resize-desktop-icons

Method 2

I suggest you for online virus scanner to ensure that the virus does not cause the issue.

Microsoft safety scanner
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: when you do an antivirus online, you will lose data that are affected by the virus. Microsoft is not responsible for the loss of this data.

Method 3
I suggest you try the steps from the following link:

  • Missing programs, perhaps a Windows problem

I was working on my computer very well, I've been on the internet for hours without problem (no antivirus warning and I wasn't downloading anything, only normal pages), and I have existing, up-to-date antivirus.

Well, the problem is that most of my installed programs have just "party" and some standard Windows programs are gone too. Programs, I had on my system for years and have used several times without problem simply disappeared as well as programs such as calculator and paint. Well, they are the programs that I realized that I have lost so far. To give you an idea, go to start, programs, and usually 1 columns 3/4 programs are displayed, it is now maybe 2/3 of a column. When you go into program files, there is nothing in the missing programs, it seems that they have been uninstalled.

I have done a complete analysis of the system through Norton Antivirus and came up with nothing. I restarted and then a box come to say a word about "Windows is unable to complete the program installation..." something in this direction, and nothing has come on my desktop except for the desktop, My Documents and trash. I did a restore of the system at the point of older, two weeks ago, and it came up saying: "we cannot complete the system restore, no change has been made."  Arghh!

I'm computer literate and worked a bit in the it helpdesk and I have absolutely no idea. I think since this is a Windows problem that we may have to clean this completely and started from scratch with new windows. I you gave as the screenshots I can, to maybe give you an idea of what is happening. Note on the last note of screenshot that there are a few things has highlighted. I did not do that, then maybe it's the question? This is the "InstallShield Installation information", "Uninstall information", and "windows update". Also, I am happy to install Real VNC if that helps diagnose the problem. Can you please guide me the case, before you go to all this effort?

    Thanks in advance.

Can I know how to fix this problem? Sorry for the bad English. Will be grateful if someone could help it.

    Thank you.

    Hi Nic6,

You can first try to navigate to the folder C:\Program files and access the application and check that you are able to find the program and you can start from there. Sometimes, the shortcut to the file on the desktop may be corrupted.

Since we do not know how the program has gone or how it was deleted, I suggest that you try to perform a system restore to the date where you were able to access the program and check to see if that help.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    a. Click Start, type system restore in the search box and then in the list click on the system restore program.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    b. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    c. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    d. click Finish.

The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

Access the link below to learn more about how to repair the operating system and how to restore the configuration of the operating system to a previous point in time in Windows:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-is-system-restore

If the steps above do not help, you may need to reinstall the program to your computer.

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

  • Accidentally assigned with the link to all the program shortcuts

How can I reset each the program shortcut on my desktop and quick launch of their respective programs?

    Hello Buttone,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers Forum.  You can reset the default programs related to extensions by clicking on start, Control Panel, programs, default programs, and then click on associate a type of file or Protocol with a program.  Find the file extension that you want to reassign and click on it to make it appear highlighted and then click on change program button. This will allow you to change the default program assigned to this file extension.  I hope this information is useful.

    Thank you

  • Arrange program shortcuts in the list of all programs on the start menu

If I organize my program shortcuts on the list of all programs from the menu start when I reboot they are all changed back.

As in, I move the "CyberLink PowerDVD 9" folder in the "Media" folder when I restart a new

Folder "CyberLink PowerDVD 9" is placed on the list of all programs on the start menu.

Now I have two folders "CyberLink PowerDVD 9" in all the programs one at the root of the list and the other in the folder 'Media' from the list.

How to stop windows 7 to change the list of all programs on the start menu?

Is it only occurs for the shortcut of CyberLink, or perhaps for each shortcut where you changed a location?

You can check this: Start > right click on all programs > you can select Open and open to all users > you can check is not listed in the two location?

Shortcuts usually appear at the previous location after a few updates to the specified application.

  • Cannot change the path to the program shortcut? Bad location targets after Regedit

    Hello.

I hope someone is able to help. I recently bought a new PC that I decided to run Windows 7 on once more, with a personal dislike for Windows 8.

The system is running 1 SSD for the OS and 1 HARD disk for other programs and files. Want to separate my OS from my HARD drive as much as possible, I searched these forums for a solution to allow me to place my Program Files and Program Files (x 86) on the HARD drive.

In doing so - I found a Regedit solution which involved editing Reg keys under %systemroot%\syswow64\regedit 2 - I changed the ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir (x 86) values so that they are now pointing my F drive on my C drive.

However, in doing so, I have found that although the programs install okay--when a shortcut is generated on the desktop and in the start menu, the path does not match the location of the files and rather oriented towards the drive C. I tried to go into the properties of the file itself and editing shortcuts so that they point to drive F - however support apply and okay - the path back to its previous C disk State , despite it clearly edition there are moments.

Anyone had similar? Is there a solution I'm missing at this point? I'd love to hear it!

  • Missing program

I know it's a difficult question, but I would be very grateful if anyone has the answer.

I had an application that extracts images from movies (and other facilities) which worked very well. The only problem was that she should be installed whenever I wanted to use it. I got the app on a folder, I named "programs" that may be found by clicking on the icon at top right of the screen.

The file is missing... So far, it is the only application that is missing.

I don't remember the name of it, but it was something like mfx or mtf, or something with an "m" in it. The small square icon was blue and once he opens the white window which appears has 5 points in blue at the center of it where movies can be dragged in.

I'm not young anymore and my memory is crap. Can anyone help?

  • all my Start menu programs were dashed when cleaning an infection on my XP PC. The computer starts well. Is it possible to restore program shortcuts

My PC has been infected evil and right after that I typed my password, some malware would take over. I was able to use Avast to get rid of the infection, but now when I go into my Start menu there is no visible shortcuts, and when I click on the programs of the window is empty. Is it possible to restore the programs in the program menu.

    Hello

These problems occur if the value of the Start Menu common registry entry is inaccessible or if the value is not valid. In this case, Windows XP cannot initialize the shell program.

The fix of the below article can be useful.

  • Missing programs in all programs on the start menu in Windows 7

I have Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 installed on my laptop. In recent weeks, I noticed that a lot of programs have disappeared from all programs in the start menu. If I dig up the program on my HARD drive so I'm able to find but it causes a lot of problems that the programs are not visible in all programs. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I had most of the programs listed in there, but some programs were missing...
Such as PowerPoint and Word, etc were missing from the list of all programs...
So what I did that I dragged the original MS Office program into the specified folder...
I guess that is not automatic!
  • LaunchAnywhere missing program files

    Separated from this thread.

    Hello

I used a program I installed two years ago, but I uninstalled it accidentally.  When I restored my computer to recover the program message "LaunchAnywhere The program files is missing ' came.  Please tell us how I can solve this problem.  I had filled a few information on the program, I am now unable to receive.  Furthermore, I use Windows 7.

    Thank you

    tln0033

    Hello

System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos, so it cannot help you restore a deleted file. If you have backups of your files, you can restore files from a backup.

  • When you uninstall a program, the program shortcut (lnk) can not be removed

Yes, I have windows 7, and it's a little corrupt (maybe)

and if I want to remove programs always displays a message ' the shortcut cannot be removed [application_name] .lnk manually remove "(example: the shortcut cannot not removed iTunes.lnk delete manually) and not only to iTunes, other software too. Google earth, firefox and more. so I thought whats wrong with my windows 7?

my windows 7 already cured by the virus, and abnormal activity arises.

example: what firefox installation, a pop-up appears: "cannot continue the error code [code]" and I tried to run as administrator, firefox has been installed successfully.

and disappear from the image (animation windows 7) and old bar of start (like windows XP) appears.

    who is wrong?

I think my computer is virus-free. There is no problem in the connection, games, etc.

EDIT: my computer is completely virus-free.

  • Missing keyboard shortcuts / Variables Panel error

This has happened for at least a few weeks now.  I am currently using CS4, Windoxs XP (SP3) and Firefox.  Everytime I open the program Illustrator, you see the following message:

"Error in loading plugins.  Variables Panel.aip. »

If I click OK and the workstation screen opens.  Only problem now is that the hotkeys to open, close, copy, paste, etc. are missing and I can't even use the keyboard to zoom up and down on the layer section.

I have read several forums on the way to solve the problem before you uninstall and then reinstall the program.  I tried to go to:

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Plug-ins\Extensions

.. .and removed the plugin 'Panel Variables', then went to CA Technologies and removed, then restored the Win32/FakeAlertYS files.

Opens the program.  Not only it did not work, but it crashed in the process!

Then I tried to update to Firefox 3.6.  That no longer works.

I'm running out of things to try, but I guess my only resolution is to contact support and pay money 42 in order to get the program working again.

Why do not you just uninstall and reinstall?

Have you used the kit to upgrade from Windows 7 home Toshiba? This kit also contains a utility that should be used to reason the installation process and mentioned in manual.
