property of vROPS 6.1 dashboard

Hello:

I'm trying to understand best practices for ownership of the dashboard. Given that some users can create and share their own dashboards, we are experience some issues that some of these key dashboard designers leave the Organization, and we will have to close their accounts - accounts that the dashboard was created under.

What other organizations are doing to manage these scenarios?

I thought to create a special account 'by team"that would be personal connect to create/edit dashboards - but this seems to be a bit tedious (because it would be a"shared"rather than individual account) and requires users to jump between logins depending on what they plan to do in the vROPS.

Can I just "take" property of a dashboard published by someone else? It is, in some cases, that I can't even see specific dashboards, if they are not shared with the group "admin vROPS" I am a member of.

He just need to put in place strict rules about which accounts to use for the dashboard creation/editing?

Ideas/advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

There are two scenarios that I suggest as best practices for businesses.

1. you cannot take possession of a shared dashboard, but you have the option to clone the shared dashboard. Once the shared dashboard is cloned, you now own the clone dashboard. Therefore, you have two identical dashboard, sharing, and which belongs to you. It would be good idea to rename the clone dashboard, if you can identify easily between the two.

2. as a practice wide organization, I would say that created all the tables in edge, but also policies, alerts, views, reports or anything that is custom from the output of the software box be exported and stored in a central location accessible to the appropriate groups. vROPs did a great job to provide users the ability to import and export almost anything. What that would do is to allow you to always have access to any user created and personalized dashboard. No other documents would be available even after the creator has left because you can import an exported documents and become the owner.

  • Design of dashboard Exchange

    Hello world

    I am very new to VROPs and I have a brand new 6.2 VROPS install which I linked in my vCenter environment.  One of the things I want to do with this environment is to allow our administrators Exchange to connect to VROPs and see ONLY the exchange servers to be able to shoot precisely related performance statistics.

    Currently if I give them permissions to log in to see all the same default dashboards that other users see (for example: recommendations, vSphere vSphere VM disk and network, vSphere, data warehouses, risk capacity, etc.)

    What is the logical method for creating a dashboard customized for exchange users only?  I only grant permissions to the property that I want to allow administrators Exchange display?  For example, machines virtual Exchange, Exchange clusters, hosts, disks, etc. etc. etc.?

    Thank you.

    Environment ---->custom groups--->New Group (Group to choose a Type = function) was from there, you can complete manually or if your Exchange servers are labeled in VSphere you can dynamically create members of the Group (which is really best) using the VSphere tag.

  • Cannot export the dashboard - "not yet Setup.

    I created a dashboard that I want to share, but I can't seem to get out of the "current state" with the icon of the hourglass beside him. I've never seen that happen before. I use a new instance of vROps 6.0.2. The dashboard was initially imported from another instance of vROPS and then completely rebuilt and saved. I rebooted the unit (1 independent instance) and it seems to always blocked. Any ideas on how to get out of this State stuck?

    Ideally, I would like to change the owner of the dashboard also, so I can modify it under another account, but I can't work on how to do this either. My Google search led me in circles watching scripts like dbcli, po - cli.sh etc, but it is not really a proper documentation on the evolution of the property of the dashboard.

    OK, so I solved it this one. I'll put the text of error here too so he can help those who have encountered the problem and decided to google. "Operation not allowed. The selected dashboard configuration is not yet complete. »

    One of the panels in my dashboard is a list of all alerts indicating, for all the Virtual Machines in a group. In the top of the Panel where the icon "Edit" pen should be, there is an hourglass. I removed the entire Panel (decide it was not necessary for the dashboard) and then recorded the dashboard and am now able to export and properly manage the other functions of the dashboard. It could have been a hangover to import the dashboard to a different environment of vROPS.

    I always get the question on the evolution of the property of dashboard well. It seems a bit of an oversight to compel a person use the admin account to create all of the dashboards when you work in a team environment, and link for current users dashboards becomes an issue if a person leaves the support team. I hear vROPS 6.1 is located close to a fall, so I hope that this feature is part of it.

  • Reporting, dashboard and the ability to limit what can be seen

    Hello

    We have a set-up foglight which houses the only FMS and a database, shared between two clients.  If he in any case a feature that would allow only the customer A people to run reports only against client an endpoints and the same for the client B?

    Thank you

    This is known as Multi-Tenancy, there are discussions on this forum talk about.

    Currently, you will need to copy and modify each report to limit the availability of data, perhaps based on the creation of Services in the generator Service that filter the MonitoringAgent property or similar.

    You could then define the roles that are allowed on each of the copies of the report, so that each customer could see that report versions that are their own.

    The same activities would be necessary for the dashboards.

    Reports and dashboards to drop or drag must be disabled.

    Efforts continue to produce true multi-tenant based on roles, but no release date is available or should rely.

  • models vROps to E-mail

    I'm looking for someone who has customized working in vROps 6.1 e-mail templates.  I've followed this article:

    VMware KB: Using e-mail templates customized in vRealize Operations Manager 6.x

    It was useful, but conditions do not work as he describes.  I was getting a "500 Internal Server Error" when trying to define a condition of e-mail. After digging in the vROps API doc, I found that you must specify a property "emailAddress" to the status of the e-mail.  When I do this I get a HTTP 201 reply and my request seems to work, but the template is not used.  E-mail alerts for the type/subtype in the condition to continue to use the default template.

    I use the "Host SSH Service is running" alert to test because it is easy to turn service on and off on the hosts.  So I put the condition of "Virtualization/hypervisor" and subtype type "Compliance" as follows:

    < ops: alertType > 16 < / ops: alertType >
    < ops: alertSubType > 21 < / ops: alertSubType >
    < ops: alertStatus > NEW < / ops: alertStatus >
    < ops: emailAddress > [email protected] < / ops: emailAddress >
    I also tried using an alertStatus of 'ACTIVE' and 'CANCELLED '.  Alerts cancelled also continue to use the default template.  I have not tried other types of alerts.  I'll have to find an easy to test with.  For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Finally got this job with the help of VMware support.  The main thing was to use the email address of the recipient for the "emailAddress" value when you set the status of the e-mail.  You also need a rule for email notification to send notification.

  • How to create an auto adjustment column on dashboard

    I have a problem with obiee 1.1.1.7.

    I have a dashboard with 2 columns placed side by side and I want to have the column on the left with the minimum size to display the content of the section and the right column fill the rest of the browser window. The left column contains a small guest and the right a PivotTable.

    Reach 1.1.1.6 result is trivial: you only need to set the width property of the column on the left to a small number of point (for example 15pt) and Obiee expands the column to match the fast size.

    1.1.1.7 I tried all combinations of formatting for column, section options and dashboard, but I can't understand how to achieve the same result: in the same case, I kinda left column but with scroll bar (I don't want scrollbar, I want a column wide enough to display the prompt). in the same case, left column is too large and the guest lies in the middle of the section.

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you

    Luke

    @Srini - using specific this column doesn't expand to match the fast size.  Wouldn't be better to use "minimum size"?  Then the quick column would increase if necessary without a horizontal scroll bar.

    @luc - sets the quick column 'size minimue' and give a value of 15px or other.  Set the report column to a width of 'size' of 100%.  You should be all set.

  • -Dashboard - content cannot create/delete/import/export dashboards

    Hello

    (1) Just deployed my first instance 2777062 vRops 6.0.2 (master node).

    Connect with the admin user, or any other user, I have create which has all permissions to content, I don't see the create/delete/Import/Export 'Actions' in view 'content-> dashboard.

    The only actions, I see are reorganize/autoswitch, managing analytical dashboards share dahsboars. Add dashboards for the House and remove the dashboards of the home is greyed out...

    In views, reports I see these actions.

    Ask yourself what is the problem, because as an administrator, I should be able to do everything?

    I tried to create a new user with the role of ContentAdmin as well.

    (2) another question: can I create a role in vROps and have it propagated in the global permissions in vCenter Server tab, so I can assign this custom group to users? Seems that the default groups are available in the "Global" section in vCenter SErver.

    Hi Erik,

  • vRops SSL Certs

    Hello

    So, Ive recently rolled out an 8 node vRops enviromnemt and finally had the time to ask the authority of internal certification signed SSL Certs, I created them, convert their PEM format, downloaded 1 cert, had look ok, then did the 2nd node, verified and it looked ok, I then checked the node 1, who pointed out a mistake and said there the same SSL certificate as the crux of the 2nd.

    Now I need to check that documentation does not seem to say that and not see anything on the web it is clear either.

    VROps is the SSL certificate of the same SSL certifiate for each node for an enviromnemt?

    If so what I need to create a single SSL certificate and a subjectAltName for each node intot he asks cert.

    which means that I have put an article like this in my openssl.cnf

    [v3_req]

    subjectAltName = @alt_names

    [alt_names]

    DNS.1 = vropsnode1.internal.domain

    DNS.2 = vropsnode2.internal.domain

    DNS.3 = vropsnode3.internal.domain

    DNS.4 = vropsnode4.internal.domain

    DNS.5 = vropsnode5.internal.domain

    DNS.6 = vropsnode6.internal.domain

    DNS.7 = vropsnode7.internal.domain

    DNS.8 = vropsnode8.internal.domain

    IP.1 = 192.168.1.1

    IP.2 = 192.168.1.2

    IP.3 = 192.168.1.3

    IP.4 = 192.168.1.4

    IP.5 = 192.168.1.5

    IP.6 = 192.168.1.6

    IP.7 = 192.168.1.7

    IP.8 = 192.168.1.8

    see you soon

    John

    The documentation is really poor in this area. but I got this VMware"one certificate will be used by the web server on all nodes, so to do the certificate must be valid for all nodes.  One way to get there is with multiple subject Alternative Name (SAN) entries".  So looks like im on the right track.

    Which is kind of weird, but works as that said, when you look at the certs ssl free signed that they have different names vc-ops-slice-1, vc-ops-slice-2 etc. but then you download an SSL certificate cert of the same is on all nodes.

    Update: Ive had an SSL certificate generated with the subjectAltName as in the example above with the full domain name and IPs for each node in the cluster and created the imported and appropriate to this PEM file, it works and the certificate is valid on all the nodes, this is the solution.

    Also of the impact, that is the question that vRops Government itself to vCenter with the IP address and not FQDN, the SSL certificate needs the IP address, but in my case it causes also connectivity issues in browsers because of our proxy settings, so it must be considered if his need...

    • vRealize extension of Operations Manager is saved using the IP address instead of the DNS name
      By default, vRealize Operations Manager saves its extension with vCenter using the IP address of Operations Manager and not the DNS name vRealize. Users who click on open vRealize Operations Manager tab monitor vCenter open a URL based on the Operations Manager IP address vRealize and not the DNS name.
      Workaround: To allow the registration of the name vRealize Operations Manager with the DNS name extension, follow these steps:

      1. On each node of the cluster of Operations Manager vRealize, follow these steps:

        1. Starting the console, open the following file in a text editor.
          $ALIVE_BASE/user/conf/configuration.properties
        2. Add the following line to the properties.
          extensionUseDNS = true
          Note: You can go back to using the IP address by changing the property to false.
        3. Save and close configuration.properties.
      2. Connect to the Operations Manager vRealize management interface and restart the cluster.

  • Should Hyperic 5.8.4 create automatically relationship the computer object virtual vROPS?

    I installed Hyperic 5.8.4 and deployed an officer to a MS SQL VM.  Hyperic discovered, I added it to the inventory, and vROPs sees the various OS and VM, including SQL applications.   However, the Windows operating system and apps are not associated to the object vROPs vSphere VM.   Should Hyperic create automatically a relationship between the VM discovered Hyperic and vROPs/vSphere?  If so, what might be missing?

    Thank you

    -MattG

    I just thought the screenshot you sent me, and I think it's just HOW you are looking at it. If you are using the troubleshooting > the metrics tab, you will see Hyperic relationships. You probably don't have your relationships build properly.

    Create a dashboard with widgets of topology or relationships, and you will see these relationships actually exist when you look at the vCenter:VMs or Hyperic objects: Windows. Alternatively, use the tab relationships under Administration... you will see your virtual machines have child objects of the Hyperic agent type. If the data is there, it's just a matter of how you look at what it is what "seems" as if relations are not there (but they are).

  • Generic dashboard in VCOPS 5.7.1

    Hi all

    I have a little problem to set up a Generic Dashboard on vCOPS 5.7 I would like to be able to see the metrics loan % and loan (ms) for a generic VM. In essence, after selecting any un Virtual MACHINE another widget, I should be able to see the corresponding values in my generic Dashboard.

    Unfortunately, however, in addition to messages Type "please select valid ranges" in the configuration of this widget, sometimes come back I find that the two selected measures relate to a specific VM and not in general.

    I would like to avoid having to use in the XML file to do this operation. Can someone explain How do I implemented, perhaps with a few simple screenshots?

    THX!

    Matrix

    It's impossible. You configure the widget to be self-sufficient providing - select resources, metric and affecting the limits - which makes a non widged. If you want it to be interactive, you will need create an XML file. On the user interface, go to this folder: "/ usr/lib/vmware-vcops/tomcat-company/webapps/vcops-custom/WEB-INF/classes/resources/reskndmetrics. Create a new XML file, make sure that the property has the value admin:admin and rw - r - r--(chmod 644) for this file.

    The contents of this file should be something like:

    You will need to change your limits a little to your liking. Also, you need a selector resources and put in place the widget interactive.

  • Dashboard for vSphere environment...

    Hi LucD and other scripting,

    Thank you for helping me with health check process scripts earlier... Now, I'm looking for a script that can give a high level overview of environment. We have a dedicated vmware on our sharepoint portal and I'm looking to get this info on the first page, so that management can take a glance on a weekly basis... And all they need is numbers

    The information I'm looking for to put in this dashboard is...

    Total no of vCenters (with names)

    Data centers

    Clusters

    Hosts

    Total number of virtual machines...

    Total storage capacity and free space

    Please let me know if this is possible, otherwise I should change my or their idea

    Kind regards

    VMSavvy

    I can't help you with the part SharePoint to your question, you better ask your local SharePoint guru, but the following PowerCLI script gives you all of the counters you have requested:

    Set-PowerCLIConfiguration -DefaultVIServerMode multiple -Confirm:$false
    Connect-VIServer vCenter1,vCenter2
    $Report = "" | Select-Object -Property vCentersCount,vCenters,DatacentersCount,ClustersCount,HostsCount,VMsCount,StorageCapacityGB,StorageFreeSpaceGB
    $Report.vCentersCount = $DefaultVIservers.Count
    $Report.vCenters = $DefaultVIServers
    $Report.DatacentersCount = (Get-Datacenter | Measure-Object).Count
    $Report.ClustersCount = (Get-Cluster | Measure-Object).Count
    $Report.HostsCount = (Get-View -ViewType HostSystem -Property Name | Measure-Object).Count
    $Report.VMsCount = (Get-View -ViewType VirtualMachine -Property Name | Measure-Object).Count
    $Datastores = Get-Datastore
    $Report.StorageCapacityGB = [math]::round(($Datastores | Measure-Object -Property CapacityMB -Sum).Sum/1KB, 0)
    $Report.StorageFreeSpaceGB = [math]::round(($Datastores | Measure-Object -Property FreeSpaceMB -Sum).Sum/1KB, 0)
    $Report
    Disconnect-VIServer * -Confirm:$false

    Would probably run this script every hour or so from a regular tasks, then load the result in SharePoint.
