Proportional column width vs fixed tables (conversion of Ventura)

Hello, all! I'm busily conversion (Finally, rebuild is a better word) Lighthouse weekly newsletter of our company publication of Ventura 10 for InDesign CS4 (PC version), while learning InDesign on the fly. About half of the publication resumed with tables of prices of 1,600 price guide. I read what I can on the tables, because they are so essential to our production process, and I quickly (sometimes 15 minutes of approval of copy/final price to get the file to the printer or emailing to subscribers).

My question: am I right that there is no way to set a proportional column width in InDesign? In Ventura (for the non-Venturians there), I can set one of the columns as proportional. Then I can set the columns where I don't want the width to change as fixed and define the width of each separately (left column is 2, 11.900pp, a gutter is 0.6, etc.). Table resize all proportional columns, and the table is set up to fill the frame in which it is.

I find I have to resize the columns individually, just as the word and then try to make sure that the entire table extend beyond the frame. I also find that I can not select noncontiguous columns to set them to distribute columns evenly. Since I rarely proportional columns right next to each other, I can't use this feature, most of the time.

I want to just make sure that I only am not missed something as a novice to InDesign. In the example below, the columns 1, 5, 6 and 10 are proportional (in color, so they can be easily seen here). Then I size just the width of these columns, and everything else set proprtionally with a width equal to fill the frame. Any way to do with InDesign?

Thank you! -Nancy

Unfortunately, no. Miss me also the proportional column width.

As you discovered, Indesign does not limit the width of the table in the width of the frame. So even if there was a setting to "fill the remaining space", it wouldn't work because Indesign is not a way to know what is the remaining space.

  • adding table to the report: different column width

    Hello

    Is there a way to set different column width when the table is added to the report VI? As I understand it, the width is distributed in evently for the Table to add to the report VI.

    I have a table with 5 colunms and to set the width of each column differently for printing of the report.

    Thanks for your help

    H. Pham

    Dig into the Table to add to the report VI as a result of the entry of the column width, you will find the Table add to the report > add text table of report VI > tables.vi > Set Table column width VI. You will find a node invoke named SetColumnWidth. Simply enter the column number and the respective width for each column.

    Each time you call this method recreates the JTable the TableColumnModel that re-creates all the TableColumns for column widths to get back to their default values.

    I see no reason that you need to create a custom TableModel. Just use the DefaultTableModel. You can load the template with the default data or dynamically update the model using addRow/removeRow methods.

    I'm using DW8 and not using codes. I insert a table with 1 row and 2 columns. Enter the text to the left and to the right. No problem. Can adjust the column widths easily. Now, add another line or even another table. Also with two columns. Put an image in the two columns. Problem is that the first line, I created aligns on the column of the second row widths or table (the one with images). How to enable the column widths vary from one line to the other?

    This is how works an array. The width of a column will be the same of
    up and down. The only way around that is to divide the column
    inside a specific line, but this isn't something you want to let
    away with.

    Or you can create a separate table, three lines, single cell at the top or
    background.

  • Is it possible to have a fixed column width and a URL link?

    I'm trying what a popup link on a column in a SQL report, but also have the report column a certain width. Can I have or not however at the same time.

    And for the URL of the popup, I used:

    Hello

    It is possible that there is an error in your code - shows your snapshot & 523. -the & and the. should not be there. If you have changed to that of & APP_ID., then you don't need the & or the. but, normally, you should leave as & APP_ID. as the value for this will change when you move from dev to test for prod and Apex will automatically replace this string with the number of correct application.

  • Highlighted value in table reports using html changes column width

    I use basic highlighting using raw html SQL to select a column. However, I noticed that the column width becomes very large compared to the displayed value, maybe there also took html into consideration for length? Not sure if there is a problem with the grid itself.

    for example this piece of code, see the difference in width of columns status and status_1... Ideally I would like to see the two columns of the same size as status_1.

    select case when BP.STATUS = 'LOCKED' then '<html><body><strong><font color="blue">' || BP.STATUS || '</font></string></body></html>'
    when bp.status = 'COMPLETED' then '<html><body><strong><font color="green">' || bp.status || '</font></string></body></html>'
    when BP.STATUS = 'PROCESSING' then '<html><body><strong><font color="orange">' || BP.STATUS || '</font></string></body></html>' end STATUS

  • A gallery of fluid from MySQL using PHP and various column widths

    I decided to try the new option of fluid page layout in Dreamweaver. I pull information from a (MySQL) database and use php to present.

    To view a gallery, I pull the info and use repetition code and something as horizontal repeat of Tom Muck script to create a gallery. Images should be indicated with other text information (not only a legend). However, the script of HR is a fixed amount of columns - and I want the number of columns to change depending on the width of the browser.

    So it's more than a gallery - pulling images from a database with title = 'x' would be a stylized DIV repeated with multiple fields of texts and styles to the breast.

    For example, a site of car dealer that it must show the image of car, price, year, description etc all fonts of different style so it may just be a legend in the image.

    If the options are:

    A fixed number of columns for each width: Mobile Monitor, 5, 3 shelves, 1. This can be done by having an "IF" statement in the code, if width = x use this version of the horizontal repetition?

    A fluid version which has 6 columns and do you drag the width of the browser, you can see the Gallery less than column width until it reaches 1 for mobile.

    The fluid version would be better.

    Any link to a tutorial or an example would be most appreciated.

    Thank you very much

    HVR

    The only problem with the use of instead of a table to create columns of the grid is that you need to set a minimum height on the to keep them all at the same depth, a bit like a construction of table cell looks and behaves. If you do not set a minimum height that the grid will look all shredded MORE the very big disadvantage is that the will not clear if another

    has more content in there that's going to happen if you include a 'description' of the car because it will never be the same length unless you are prepeared to edit the text.

    See sample of fluid below: you can simply fill in the of your database and the loop through them

    There is an element of uncertainty in what we suggest as well, because you have not specified the theme and the report of model that is used. This information is required for any question of formatting or the visual layout.

    I drilled in individual columns and specified the column widths as the element, but in vain.

    Report in some themes templates may be missing in the #COLUMN_WIDTH substitution string # required for use of the declarative column widths, as shown here: Re: width of column in reports

    I don't know why it would be missing from a theme of so-called "modern" (perhaps the lack of documentation affects even the Oracle theme designers), but you can add it to the models listed in this thread.

    Width of the element applies only to controls on a form in a table.

    Would appreciate help on how to do this for each column and hope that I do not need to change the model of report (if possible).

    This can be done using selectors CSS attribute (for the themes of quirks mode non-traditional, because you are using a legacy version of IE). Add a style sheet in CSS Inline property page:

    #ALIAS,
    td[headers="ALIAS"] {
    width: 40%;
    }

    where the ALIAS value in the attribute selector matches the required column alias, and the width property specifies the column dimension required and the units.

    Note that the percentage widths will be compared to the width of the report table. Therefore, it may be necessary to also specify widths (100%) for the table of report and its components. Exactly how is based on the report, the region and the page templates and theme used, information that was not provided.
