PSD Photoshop CS6 file sizes vs TIFF

I know that there are many threads there with regard to the advantages/disadvantages of savings in the PSD or TIF, but for the time being, I am still confused on some things and embarking on an exercise where I'll be editing or reissue a lot of images - that is why, I would like to do things the first time if I can.

My immediate question is if anyone can shed some light on the reason why an image that I save as TIF is 395 MB (in the Finder) - and the same image saved as PSD with no other change is "55 mb.

Over the years, I've almost always saved as TIF without compression - I never saved by any form of TIF compression.  But the disparity in this case between a TIF to 395 MB file and a PSD file 55Mo tells me there is something important, I do not understand.  Reason for the question is not only the huge disparity in the size of the file, but because I am also leaning heavily toward saving all my images under PSD as I advance in my project.

My concern is I missed something in a 55 MB PSD file vs a 395 MB TIF file or PSD just that much more effective than TIF?  I have many other images that I saved as a TIF and PSD where the uncompressed TIF file is maybe bigger than the file PSD - but nothing like this one, with a gap of 55-395 MB 50pct.

Would appreciate any comments from what seems like many who are well informed on the issue of PSD vs TIF.

Thank you

Jerry Keenehan

When you save a Tiff file you have much more save option.  You can save files compressed or compressed, you can choose what compression to use. You can save flattened or with layers.

Save record PSD layers and you can set the size of the file with some of your preferences for the PSD in Photoshop files.   You can disable compression and save data options for maximum compatibility for older versions of Photoshop.

PSD has a 2 GB file limit, but you can save the file larger layers using Tiff limited to 4 GB and PSB files limited by free space in other words of large file with PSB.

Some applications can read a Tiff file, but not PSD files.  Some applications that can read the Tiff file will use the tiff full composite layer. They do not support the other layers. As Lighroom does not support layers other layers that are in tiff format are not used. TIFF with other layers have efect conposit layer lightroon conversions first changes is no longer can be adjusted to layer coposite necessitated changed by an image editior.

Also, to get thumbnails for RAW file PSD files, you will need to install codecs in windows. I use the fastepictureviewer codec package. Hi friends,

Today accidentally my photoshop has closed at this moment there, I work on my model of the last 2 months demo work, so once again, I open my file .psd is the guest of the error "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop".

Several times, I'm trying, but it can not open my .psd file. If someone in the face of this type of problem or have any solution for this problem I'll be very grateful to you, of course its my two months of hard work.

    Thank you

Here is something that is works in many cases. You will use fires of artifice to open and re - save the Photoshop file. This will fix the majority of corruptions.

Open the corrupted Photoshop file in Fireworks.

Fireworks lets save the .psd Photoshop format. (Important: do not save a Fireworks file or another extension, because Photoshop may not recognize the layers, or you could lose data.)

Don't forget to give your file a different name when recording, so you will not overwrite the original. (A good idea would be to create a backup of your original before trying this procedure).

Open your newly created file in Photoshop.

Do not forget that many effects will not show in Fireworks, but should appear in Photoshop layers.

If that does not work, try to look at the answer here: http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/adobe/adobe-aa/photoshop/590-restoring-a-corrupted-ps "d-file"

  • PSD Photoshop CS6 in After Effects CS5.5

    Hello

Our graphics Department have recently install Photoshop CS6 version 13.0 x 64. I'm going to open a .psd file, they created in After Effects CS5.5 version 10.5.1.2. However, I get the following message:

"After effects error: could not open (.psd name) because it is not a valid Photoshop document." (51: 19) »

Is there some way they can save their files in photoshop differently so that they will open or do I need to upgrade to After Effects CS6?

Thanks in advance for the help.

(wasn't sure whether this post here or in the forum photoshop - thought I'd try here everything first well)

I've never met such a problem and switch between the two versions on a regular basis.  On the machine, I'm working on right now I have CS6 installed creative cloud, but most of my AE work in CS5 or 5.5 because customers, I work for no upgarded yet.  But all my PSD work in CS6.

Is there anything unusual in the file, 3D content IE?  As Mylenium says 3D PS has changed and is no longer supported by AE.  If not, you move between platforms, IE Windows to Mac?  Is the file has a valid PSD extension?

  • Canon 1Dx raw Mark II support Photoshop CS6 files

I can't open the raw files from my Canon Eos Mark II 1Dx. I use photoshop CS6. I tried to update, but the system indicates that it is up-to-date. Would appreciate the help.

    Hi andrzejp,

Mark II Canon EOS 1DX raw files require the raw camera 9.5 version that is supported in Photoshop CC and above.

Therefore, you must either upgrade to Photoshop CC or Adobe DNG Converter allows you to convert raw files to DNG and access these DNG files in Photoshop CS6.

    Hi Ernie,.

80 d Canon raw files are not accessible in Photoshop CS6, because they are supported in Camera raw 9.5 and Lightroom 6.5/CC2015.5

You can upgrade or use free Adobe DNG Converter.

  • Nikon D7200 not able to open Photoshop CS6 files.

Should I convert my raw files to DNG in CS6? I have a new Nikon D7200 and I could not see the file in bridge or open them in Raw. I installed the last Raw branch, but it still says I have 7.3.0.7.1 and they do not show up until I have use the DNG Converter that is installed with the cap on. It works, but it's another step. I do something wrong or is this the only way without upgrading to CC?

    Hi Mario n.

No, you need not to convert the files to DNG for use in Photoshop CS6.

As Photoshop CS6 can upgrade of Camera Raw 9.1.1.

Please update Camera Raw, from the following link: keeping up to date of Photoshop

  • Photoshop CS6 files are compatible with the CC files

My college is using photoshop CS6, and I installed photoshop CC. I was told that the files are not compatible between the two.

There are some features in CC which won't work with CS6.  You can always open your images in CS6, but some smart object could be pixelated if they are not supported in CS6.  For example, if you had a smart object with the shake reduction applied.  You should get a warning when opening the file, but it should still open.

  • CS6 file size

    Hello

In general, I save my documents in the form of uncompressed TIF files. On a recent project, I noticed that the files created are particularly important and are significantly larger than the size indicated in the status bar.

    An example:

Document is 16 bits RGB with background layer, copy of the background layer, new layer that contains a small amount of work and 3 editing curve adjustment layers.

    Status bar displays Doc 223.3M/502.1M.

Registered size of the file as uncompressed TIF is 1.22 GB. It seems big enough for me, considering how many layers is in use. Maybe I just forgot the size of the generated files before. I note that deletion of reduced unused layer masks the size of the file saved approximately 989 MB.

I saved the file as a PSD for the comparison and the resulting file is 611,7 MB (with maximize compatibility turned on).

So, I wonder if the above is regarded as normal, and if so, can someone clarify exactly what shows the second figure in the status bar? The size displayed in the status bar refers to the size of the document when registering in a PSD (rather than uncompressed TIF) file, it is simply an approximation of the size of the file, saved or have a problem with my installation of Photoshop?

For more information, I use Photoshop CS Extended (13.1.2) on OS X 10.8.2 6.

If anyone could clarify the situation for me, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you very much

    Liam

I forgot to add that I do not use dynamic objects.

My guess is that the document contains a slightly cropped 40 MP (7264 * 5440) 16 bit per channel RGB image.

When you save to TIFF in layers, the compression of the composite image is independent of the compression of layers. Layers should always be compressed. However...

In 16-bit mode, only ZIP compression of layers is honored. The choice of compression layer ELA results in no compression of layers. (RLE compression both ZIP for layers are honored in 8-bit mode).

You have the composite image compression set to None. I suspect you have ELA chosen for the compression of the layer (which is not honored), resulting in 989 MB.

Something like that is in your file:

    Composite (3 channels), uncompressed = 223.3 MB

    Background (3 channels), uncompressed = 223.3 MB

Copy (4 channels), uncompressed background = 297,7 MB

Retouch (4 channels), smaller than the canvas, without compression = ~ 245 MB

    Curves 1 trivial =

    Curves 2 trivial =

    Curves 3 trivial =

    Metadata = trivial

Maybe have you masks and editing layer is smaller that I have are responsible.

Anyway, if you choose the ZIP for compression of the layer and then a smaller file is expected. Which will not affect without compression of the composite image of your choice.

  • Could the corrupted Photoshop CS6 files be planting my iMac?

I have by mistake upgraded to El Capitan, while using CS6, and it caused problems since. My iMac would be cut and then turn again, turn off, suite... repeatedly. Apple and I did a lot of troubleshooting before I checked the compatibility and realized CS6 and El Capitan are incompatible. Duh!

I erased from my hard drive and reinstalled my old OS, 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and then used my saved .dmg since when I bought CS6 years ago and resettled. The computer always crushed.

I then downloaded new files from Adobe and ran both InDesign and Photoshop for a few days and everything was fine. Today, I was once again, the two, but in USING Photoshop running when it crashed again. When it crashes, the screen goes gray white and it takes several tries in Recovery Mode or Cmd Option PR to get it back in service again.

If I am to the old OS and files installed in new ONES from Adobe, I don't understand why it always crashes. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems?

Apple ran the diagnostics on the computer last week and they said that the material was normal, so there must be software I'm running.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Applications can cause all of the closed system, freeze, restart or BSOD/Kernel Panic.

These behaviors can only be caused by bugs in the operating system, bug in low level drivers, or faulty hardware.

By far the most common cause, that we have seen is faulty RAM.

The gray screen say anything? If so, it's a kernel panic, and Apple technicians can get more information from the system. (don't let them blame Photoshop, because they should know better.)

Diagnostics of natural material of Apple (the genius bar or in the backroom of the store) would not catch errors like that - they would fail only for the same types of errors that could prevent the machine from running at all.

For example, test RAM problems with accuracy to swap the memory, or send the machine to a regional repair center that has the best material (and more experienced).
