Q: WAP321

Hello Forum,

I'm really sorry for the question that will follow!

I have a client of me, who insists that the WAP321 has a built-in DHCP server.

Could you please tell me the truth ;-) I need something from black and white to show him.

Again sorry for that question and I thank you

Yves

Yves,

The WAP321 is an access point. None of the points of access for small businesses have a DHCP server. For wireless clients access to the internet, a router is used as gateway. The router normally provides a DHCP server for the network, the allocation of IP addresses wireless and wired clients. The access point can function as a DHCP client only, which means that she can get an IP address from the server (router).

    Hello.

I'm having a hard time until an ACL on a WAP321 setting. Basically, the client wants an open access point, which only allows access to a specific Web site. Is it possible to specify a domain name with an ACL on the WAP321?

    Thank you

I know what you're talking about.

Under the local user, there is a time-out on the outside which is set by default for 60 minutes. This means that, after a user dissociated from the AMP, if they try to log on before 60 minutes, they will always be in the list of users that are authenticated and should bypass the login screen. If the time specified in this field expires before the client attempts to authenticate again, customer entry is deleted from the list of authenticated clients and they should have log in the portal again.

This same setting is also in the Instance configuration. I would like to do the same in both places. There is also time to stop session, I'm leaving 0 by default.

    I hope this helps.

  • WAP321 MAC filtering does not

    Hello

We have 6 x and the configuration of WAP321 through 'Configuration of the single Point'. We have enabled MAC filtering and the value of 'block all stations in the list '.

We have added a device in this list and confirmed that this replica around all points of access. However, it does not prevent the device to join the wireless.

We tried restarting the APs and update their firmware (1.0.5.3).

    No difference.

Anyone else seen elsewhere or have ideas?

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.

I've personally used this function several times. Can you tell me if, after setting the MAC filtering, if you returned to the 'networks' tab and active MAC filtering for SSID (s) that you are eager to prevent the MAC to associate?

If you would contact me directly (you can find my email holding the mouse over my picture), I would like to talk to you about your problem.

  • WAP321 two Pat same SSID on the same piece with the installation of single point / cluster

    Hello!

    It has bought several WAP321.

We have a room which has about 40 books, so I will deploy the two Pat in there (according to recommended 20 clients per WAP on specifications).

I configured the first WAP, created a cluster and the SSID, then joined the second WAP to the same cluster with the installation of single point, he received the same cluster radio settings (SSID, WPA2 key, etc.)

    My requirements are:

1: configure all laptops with the same unique SSID created on the WAP (which has spread to the second WAP via single point of installation/cluster)

2: having the laptop connect automatically to one of the Pat.

3: If a WAP fails, the laptop can connect automatically to the other.

    Is this possible?

If Yes, are the measures taken are correct, or is there something else? (and how does the cell know what WAP to connect if two WAPS is configured with the same SSID?)

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the forums.

Setup you had set up will work fine for your application, I highly recommend to make sure that you have two AP running on different statically assigned channels, you can put one on channel 1 and the other on Channel 6 or 11. This will prevent them to conflict with each other.

Now, there is no real way to select what AP you connect or even know that you you already connected to without special software, in fact, when a device gets on the network and seeking to connect to the radio will connect to the first point of access that meets the demand, if it is no longer available then it forwards the request again and it will connect to one who works.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions

  • WAP321: can I connect to access?

    Hello

There is a captive portal in this model which seems perfect to give access to guess.

I live in France, and when you give internet access guess someone you need to log in (for one year!):

-1 - name (can be reach by the person giving a user), no problem

    -2 - mac - address

    -3-HOURLY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

    -4 - URL

no problem for 1, but what about 2,3,4? Can the WAP321 that connect to a server from logging as kiwi or more?

If you know more about the Access Act requires in france do not hesitate to tell me!

    Thanks for your help

My name is Eric Moyers. I am an engineer in the Small Business Support Center.

There is a page (authenticated Clients) within the captive portal section that will provide you with a list of the MAC address, IP address and username of Clients that are currently connected. To my knowledge this can not automatically recorded in a log as our normal logs.

I think it would be a great feature request. If you want to do that as a feature request, please call our support center and prosecute so that one of our engineers can work directly with you.

  • WAP321 - How can I distribute bandwidth to different SSIDS?

I just bought the WAP321 and am overwhelmed by the amount of controls in the admin interface.

I had a WAP4410N (which I returned to Cisco), which had the possibility of allowing me to distribute my bandwidth to different SSID on the access point.

I'm not able to find the options in the WAP321. Anyone done this yet and could you please share how you did on this subject?

    Thank you!

    Jack

    Singapore

    Hi Jack,

This WAP seems to expand the options that are available to you from the old WAP4410N.

You can add people to different SSID if you want.  You then have to option to limit the virtual AP, check out the screenshot below.

You can see that I circled the help option, select this option if you want to understand this page more in detail.

  • WAP321 Cisco PoE switch

Could someone tell me please to a small businesses of Cisco switch that would be capable of powering of five WAP321?

I do not know the power on these access points profile but have noticed that the PoE injectors pump 16.8 watts MAX. I find anywhere what the power profile is on WAP321 APs but ~ 17 WATTS seems to be quite high.

In fact, I was interested in the SF100D - 16 p which has a budget of power of 64W on 8 ports... the price range is within my budget.

If someone could tell my, if the SF100D - 16 p can power 5-6 WAP321 enough? Thank you.

Hello Rob, the answer is Yes, the SG100D - 16 p will manage enough 5 AP.

  • Roaming WAP321

    Hello

I set up a wireless network for a small office with 25 people with about 15 on wirless anytime. The office is very long and skinny, I'm looking at a cluster of WAP321. I hope that these will save a ton of money compared to buying a controller and access points more expensive.

How they work for roaming? I tried a search but I found descriptions some of them do not at all roaming and their roaming, but you must do some sort of right pre-approval until they wander without user interaction, they simply wander.

I need users to be able to wander around the office without interruption. I want to install these and pull them up later and put into new ones and a controller. If someone could help me to know if the WAP321 works for homelessness, I'd appreciate it.

    Thank you

    James

Hi James, homelessness is good enough to not be awkward. It would be an automatic switching and little disruption in general. There may be 1-2 complaints here and there if someone spends a lot of time "stimulation" where it would actually force the switch on a lot. But it is almost not noticeable for the casual roaming or a slight delay but really this isn't business related.

Hi Minh, you can use up to 8 access points in a cluster. This would be the best scenario.

  • WAP321 unresponsive

    Hello

I have a WAP321 access point which seems to only work for around 24-36hrs before does not, requiring a power cycle to get it running again. I am running the latest firmware 1.0.2.3 and have disabled green ethernet (which cost for extended operating time). Also save the config doesn't seem very unreliable, sometimes it works, and most of the time it isn't. Anyome have pointers?

    Thank you

    Phil

Hi Phil, as cliché as it may seem, any time of the upgrade of the firmware on a device, it should be factory default in order to avoid any overlap of code possible and things of this nature.

There was a bug on an earlier version of the firmware when using specific zones, the unit will return to market (losing all settings) when restarting. This problem may or may not be related to you but since he knew with such problems, it is possible that you have a persistent effect.

The extent of the random reboot, dropping. Many times, it's because on use. In most cases when devices of becomes unstable, it's because of too many connective users. SB wireless products are designed for 20 to 30 connective users.

If this does not apply to you, I would first of all by default of the unit then assess things like the power supply (poe or output switch) and check connectivity issues everywhere where the AP connects to. These products have been extremely stable since their inception.

  • WAP321 - power

    Hello!

What is the power required by WAP321? There is no information on the standard IEEE 802.3af class to the datasheet.

    Thank you

    Leonardo.

Hi, my name is Eric Moyers. I am a network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Please use the Forums to Post community of Cisco.

If you look at the data sheet attached to the WPA321 to the end, inside table 1, there is a section titled PoE.

    PoE

802.3af PoE: PoE 10.6W peak power

It is the most power you expect WAP to draw. So, as long as the switch can provide at least a lot more current, you should be fine.

  • WAP321 antenna pattern

    Hello

A peer of mine asked what the antenna pattern is in the WAP321 and also exactly how they should be mounted.  We can't find the antenna anywhere models.  Can someone please post this in to us?  Thank you!

    Hello Sir,

I think that the information you are looking for is that the WAP321 has an omnidirectional pattern. It is designed for wall mounting or ceiling. I normally get this AP on the ceiling of the best coverage. If you visit the website next on, it will give a good distribution of the WAP321 and has also some pictures of the inside of the unit. It is excellent, because open your own place could lead to the guarantee cancellation available to it.

  • strange behaviour of WAP321

    Dear Sir

I have 3 WAP321 which worked normally for 5 months. Today, one of them meet problem after my power/on the issue, these APs use adapter, Poe

after power off and come back, I waited for 20 minutes, but have no signal wireless as before. I checked and see that the led WLAN and LAN is off, just power flashing light with low speed (2 x slower). I try power button is on / off a few times, but can not solve. The AP LAN port is connected to a switch port.

a strange thing, I found that once I have change the connector to the ethernet cable from switch to LAN port on my laptop, then restart AP, AP function normally again, 3 lights (power, LAN, WLAN) are on and can see the wireless. (I've just accidentally know this although I try to directly access the AP to see if AP configuration has not lost). But if I change it back to the switch port ethernet cable and restart AP, to only power light flashes (2 x slower).

Now I have temporarily to force this AP work by the cable conector plug to my laptop LAN port and start for AP, after I see that 3 of the AP starts I'll change back to cable

I double checked, port swith and cable are good. Reboot the AP good for any port LAN on PC or laptop or an IPPhone, except switch port.

anyone has faced this question? Please help, thanks in advance

  • Admin WAP321 and lobby for the creation of local guest user?

    Hello everyone.

I wonder if there is a way to create an administrative user (let's call it 'lobby admin') on the WAP321 that has rights to users to create/edit/delete comments. I wouldn't give full administrator rights to the receptionist or one that is simply time to create access for a guest.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Dear Flavio,

Thank you to achieve Cisco Small Business Support community.

Unfortunately there is no way to fulfil your needs on this feature of small business. Under user accounts settings, preconfigured user is the only one in the system to have read/write privileges, all users can have read-only access, but not read/write access.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you in the meantime.

  • WAP321 Auto Assign channels (Single, Point)

    Hello

I have 2 x WAP321 (each about 50 feet of eachother) and helped the Signle Point configuration so I can see them both there now).

Now, I also see the allocation option automatically the channels in channel management for the entire cluster (two points of xs).

This sounds like a good and interesting idea, but my question is, when it changes channel, custom cutting automatically wireless clients all connected to the AP? Because we have wireless speakers and other devices that should stay connected as long as possible.

    Anyone know?

Hi, my name is Eric Moyers. I am a network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Please use the Forums to Post community of Cisco.

You are right. With Auto Channel any time that WAP change channel, it will be a disconnection of the devices when switching channels. Normally, I always recommend that the client does not auto-channel

Automatic channel works best in a network that does not have a lot of signal noise around. In a crowd, area signal if these signals are on auto and yours are on auto. your device should spend more time jumping around looking for a clear signal, that of providing a signal that you can use.

    Thank you
