Qosmio G20 - line of dead pixels

The other night a solid line of dead pixels appeared on the left side of my screen. It just appeared out of nowhere, a yellow solid and thick 1 pixel wide line. Is there something that can be done for this? It can be repaired? I think my computer is still covered by the extended warranty

Hi Ashley

Of course, this problem can be repaired, but the question is how ;)
In my opinion, the defective part must be replaced.

Try to connect the external monitor to the computer to know what part is malfunctioning.
If the same line will appear on the second screen, then the GPU (graphics chip) that attaches to the malfunctioning of the Commission, and in this case, the whole Board needs to be replaced.

But don t worry not about this! As you say the guarantee must be valid and all replacement parts must be done for free.

This is why don t waste time contact the ASP in your country as soon as possible.

Good luck

  • Dead on Qosmio G20-128 pixels?

I've seen a few dead pixels on the screen of my Qosmio G20-128. The number of pixels is greater than the minimum value for the use of the guarantee. I have to send my laptop using Toshiba. But I absolutely need the laptop for my work!

Y at - it an option to have a computer mobile substitution (an old book may be useful) for the period where my Qosmio is on life support?

    Hi Luca,

I don't think Toshiba to apply a system of loan of portable computers so that your own is being repaired. The warranty covers only repair real and in my opinion, it specifically excludes any indirect loss or inconvenience.

I hope that your repairman will not need to keep your laptop too long but it is worth to ask in advance.

    Kind regards

  • Vertical pink line on Qosmio G20 LCD

    Hello all,.

The screen of my Qosmio G20 was displaying a pink vertical line (exactly 1 pixel width) whenever it returns a long out-of-State (i.e. at startup, wake up from hibernation, etc...). The line persists for only a few seconds to gradually disappear the transition by means of green (and maybe white) before to do so. It is also worth noting that the pink line does not appear on his return from a short off the coast of the State.

Unfortunately I do not have external screens on hand to test if it's a hardware or software problem, so I was wondering if anyone out there has experienced this before or pink line if there is a clear diagnosis for her (I suspect material myself but...).

    Hello

Seems your equipment malfunctions but it s, not easy to say what's wrong without a detailed test.
Everything is there, we can provide suggestions only.
Of course, it s might be the graphics chip to malfunction, but I wouldn't say that this s REALLY a graphics card failure.

The connection to an external monitor would be useful to provide some additional suggestions...

However, you will definitely need assistance service guys because I don t what you'll be able to fix it yourself.

  • Double vertical lines on the Qosmio G20

I bought a 16mois g20 there and one day I tried to turn it on and gave me a few double vertical lines...
I took it to the repair shop, they told me that I have to change the motherboard which is quite expensive and more installation wills cost much. So I think that... Why spend a lot of money for this laptop... .and know this thing came

To be honest I wasn't disappointed with the machine worked very well... but reliability... .and its not so old to say...

I was doing some research and very few have the same problem please... Toshiba should do something to make us upgrade the machine or get at least something cheaper to fix...

Right now my works well but when I read something like your ad that I'm a little worried mine too. I have gift? t know how long warranty period is in your country, but especially about 2 years ago. Try to contact the Service partner in your country and speak with them. • Qosmio G20-117: bad pixels on the screen and the CD rom does not work

    Hello

I have a problem with the computer hardware. I got a Qosmio G20-117 and you have a problem with the cdrom and the screen. Got bad pixels on the screen, and cdrom does not work. I live in the United Kingdom, so I tried signing up to them to choose the computer before the computer is out of warranty.

Whenever I register, it says sorry, an unexpected error has occurred, please try again later. I have tried at least 20 times since yesterday and it doesn't seem to work. I have them even called and they told me, the service is stopped and will be fixed this morning but yet nothing works.

    Any solution?

    Hello

If you want to contact Toshiba service partner in your country then why you don't call them?
Toshiba page you will find the database with all service providers in the world.
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/Su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?PF=true

I don't think that you need to register something apart from the serial number of your laptop. But in my opinion this could also be done at the point of service.

  • Blue vertical line on the screen of the Qosmio G20

A few minutes ago, I was surfing the web and from nowhere share an apperead to the blue vertical line on the screen.
A blue vertical line near the middle of the screen and crosses the screen all the up toward the bottom.

If I'm looking at a white background, the line is undetectable, but if it is colored, it comes right thru.

Please don't tell me they are dead... hoooo pixels... I am now, life away from any toshiba repair shop and I get a guarantee...
I think that I bought 3 years ago. Need urgent help

    Hey Susana

I wouldn't say it s a lack of dead pixel, but to me, it looks like a more serious problem.
It looks like a malfunction of the graphics card. But to be sure, you should try to connect the external monitor to the computer and check if the same vertical line will appear on the second screen.

If you're going to see the same line on the external monitor, then I assume that the question of the vertical blue line might be linked to the GPU fault.
This could be the case value because the chip graphic card cannot be replaced. You need to replace the whole motherboard :(

So, as you see it s not easy to solve this problem and I really recommend to contact a technician who has more experience with these laptop problems.

    Good luck

    Hello

First of all, you are right. This very nice laptop s. I wish I would have a.
    Good on your problems:

1.), you should try to change the display resolution. It would be very interesting to know if the black dots remains on the screen. In addition, I put t think that it s a pixel dead issue because you don t have problems if watch you movies.

2.) have you used a Qosmio Player or a MCE? You should try to start the Qosmio player and try to launch a new search for TV channels. In the manual, you will find a detailed description of a connection and the use of the Q drive

3.) have you activated the Bluetooth with FN + F8 key combination?
Please check this post how to use a Bluetooth device:

  • Qosmio G20 screen of text or symbols on startup

Qosmio G20 139, at the start of the Qosmio laptop appears and then it immediately goes into a screen of text or symbols. Is continuous to load see the Windows XP screen then displays vertical blue dotted, then goes to an error page showing the nonpaged page error error 0 x 00000050. Then restarts and goes around and does the same thing.

I used the recovery disk and it worked fine for a few days the have reappeared.
I checked the ram and hard drive and there seems to be some errors.

Now reinstall drive does not load correctly.
If a page comes up saying installation is not complete.

    > I checked the ram and hard drive and there seems to be some errors.

    How did you check that?
Have you used a new test strips of memory and the new HARD drive?

To be honest, I don t think that your HARD drive is affected. The vertical dotted lines, could be more related question of graphics card in terms of the HARD drive.
RAM question could also be possible, but I think that its GPU.

By the way: you are able to access the BIOS?
Turn on the computer and press F2. Then leave the laptop in BIOS for a few hours to check if some problems arise.
Would be interesting to know how the unit would be

  • Qosmio G20: cursor jumps typing the letter

Hi everyone, my Qosmio G20 gives me headaches! When I try to type a letter or article suddenly the cursor jumps back lines and I find myself typing in the middle of a previous sentence. Then sometimes it just deletes a paragraph I just typed.
Any suggestions as to why? And more importantly on how to behave?
I would be happy to advice.

    Thank you.
    Ronnie

Yes, it's because of the touchpad. To disable and enter in peace, just press Fn + F9. This will temporarily disable the touchpad. When you are finished typing, press Fn + F9 again, it will re-enable the touchpad.

  • Qosmio G20: Question of Media Center Receiver - recovery question

As the abvoe really, I usually leave my computer running from one day to the next day and yesterday I went on it to find that I had 80 MB hard drive (60 GB HDD) to the left. Error messages had popped up and a record of these was recorded in the folder pchealth, under userdumps, or something like that. Anyway I deleted 58gigs with a value of these userdumps, but the same error message kept popping up.

It was a mistake with the Media Centre receiver, but I don't quite know what it is, but it was founded in the ehome folder which I think is located in the main folder of Windows.

I have been into msconfig and stopped the ehhome.exe to start but that seems to ruin the tv/video within the media library settings.

I recently installed the codec and divx player to play divx movies.

I was wondering is that it would be more prudent to use the CD recovery and re - install windows and the software and create a restore point, and then install the codecs to see if the same problem arises, or if someone has had this problem and it heals.

Finally, I actually ran the recovery cd to the above, but when the cd starts the first line on back said something like, 'running Setup for windows 98'. XP is certainly on the 98 and no recovery cd?

Can someone please confirm this for me and all the answers to the above problems.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I can t believe that Windows 98 is placed on the recovery CD.
AFAIK the Qosmio G20 was delivered with the MCE window.
There is no recovery of Win98 CDs for Qosmio units.

In my opinion, this message occurs due to RAID or other drivers that load at the beginning.

  • Portege R600 - black or dead pixels?

Hi all, have a serious problem with what appears to be suddenly occurring dead on my R600 pixels. See here:

    http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9523/toshibar600deadpixels.jpg

It is actually the second time that this has happened. I got the R600 since November 2008, and in March 2009, I had the screen replaced because several lines of pixels black from appearing near the top of the screen.

Now it's August 2009 and the same thing is happening, but in the lower part of the screen. About two weeks, two thin lines appeared around an inch upward from the bottom of the screen and almost thick strip of black pixels will appear at the bottom of the screen, and also two big spots of black pixels at the bottom left of the screen that appeared last week.

The kicker is that the authorized after-sales service suggests that the screen is 'damaged' now because of the two tasks, but I tap anywhere on the screen! Because it is considered to be physically damaged, it would be outside the warranty coverage and would cost me $350-$ 700Cdn to replace the screen! I was capable of that escalate to a supervisor at Toshiba Canada and I'm supposed to hear within 2 to 3 business days.

Needless to say, I'm not impressed; seems almost every quarter, I encounter this problem and now Toshiba can't even fix it for me, even if it is no fault myself.

(Note: I use this laptop in an office/retail environment;) I protect and treat this unit of $3000Cdn as a baby and never put pressure on the screen. My R600 is either docked or in a case of Zeroshock and during the transport of it, I put it in a bag with padded back.)

Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on how I can solve this problem with Toshiba?

    THX,
    nomad416

PS by the way, is this forum especially for users of Toshiba Europe? I'm at the Canada and can't seem to find a forum on the site www.toshiba.ca.

    Hello

I found very interesting FAQ from Toshiba on the web:

+ Information about the technology and pixel for LCD screens display fault tolerance +.
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB9502LZ0000R01.htm

The display can be replaced and would be covered by the fair only if a certain amount of dead pixels would be visible on the screen.
