Query NTP

How to check the IP address of the NTP server which ESXi servers pull NTP per hour. ?

I also had a way to know what

Run this command:

Watch ntpq Pei localhost

output will show what server NTP the ESXi is taken on time.

  • Query - start the NTP service

We get the list of esxi host that are not always in sync with the server ntp of 5 seconds.

And the list is around 20-25 servers.

Can we create a script that can restart the ntp server 25 service.

I guess the list of servers is in a CSV file, which looks like this

    Host name

    ESX1

    ESX2

    ...

Then, you could do something like that

    Import-Csv hostnames.csv -UseCulture | %{  Get-VMHost -Name $_.Hostname | Get-VMHostService | where {$_.Key -eq "ntpd"} |  Restart-VMHostService -Confirm:$false}

  • ESXi 5.1 configured as a NTP server, do not sync with the Local PC

I have a 5.1 ESXi server configured as an NTP server and a Windows Server 2008 R2 local PC that are not sync.  I understand well, it is not recommended for ESXi, but I read [1] [2] that, whenever an ESXi server is running as a client, it also acts as a server, so I enabled as a NTP client in vSphere by ticking the NTP client, adding some servers to the server list, and then click on run, and I also activated the 123 incoming/outgoing port by adding the shell of ESXi firewall settings.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a firewall problem.  I completely disabled the firewall on my local PC.  Running "w32tm keyboardists computers: - IP address of the server -" give me the time of the server and running the software NTPQuery gives me an answer back on port 123 of the server time.

    I tried:

    - Date/time settings (right-click on notification area-> set date/time-> Internet time-> set as the IP address of the server) - sync fails (* an error has occurred while Windows timed with - server IP-*)

    - Group Policy Editor (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates administration\systeme\service Time Service, currently disabled but because I heard this causes problems) - synchronization fails

    - The registry editor (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\W32Time\settings) - synchronization fails

    - Command prompt, using:

    w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:-IP of server- /syncfromflags:MANUAL /reliable:yes /update
    net stop w32time && net start w32time
    w32tm /resync /rediscover

This updates the registry properly, but the outputs "the computer did not resync because no time data was available."  And when I use the command "w32tm/query/source" the source is always "The local CMOS clock."

Here is the output from w32tm/query /configuration

    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

Your ESXi server response shows that the leap indicator is 3 and the server stratum is 0.

This means that ESXi NTP server is synchronized and unable to provide a valid reference time to customers.

We recommend that you configure your ESXi host with valid upstream NTP servers such as:

    0.vmware.pool.ntp.org,1.vmware.pool.ntp.org and 2. VMware.pool.ntp.org

as described in the KB article or alternatively your internet service provider NTP servers.

Although not recommended, you can configure ESXi to allow a reference time by using the own system clock

If you can not configure ESXi to synchronize to external NTP servers upstream.

UI, tab Configuration, using software (time setting), properties, Options, and NTP settings.

Specify "127.127.1.0" as your single NTP server. Don't forget to check the box "restart NTP service to apply the changes.

then click OK twice to close the dialog boxes. Wait a few minutes for NTP sync, then try your test.

According to RFC 4330, NTP-SNTP (Simple) customers must not use time in a package of NTP response if the

stratum returned is 0 (and the leap indicator is 3). Apparently, your client Windows NTP Simple is more

    the RFC.

  • ESXi 5 NTP

Trying to determine where NTPD (it seems to be version 2) is started, what are the options line it starts with (example:-a vs - a). It seems the services.sh script participates in the start, but I'm looking for more detailed information.

    Anyone?

    THX.

When you run services.sh to restart services, it querries a list of services for the management of/etc/chkconfig.db.  You can configure the NTP service in the vSphere client by selecting the host, then Configuration > software > time Configuration.  You can manage NTP sources to be used, as well as the service started.   Alternatively, you can configure NTP settings via host profiles, a script installation or a script like PowerCLI tool.

If you look at etc/init.d/ntpd, you will see that the configuration file is/etc/ntp.conf.

ESXi includes ntpq that you can use to query the service.

Hello chilli.willi, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.

  • Demon NTP using a lot of cycles CPU

My MacBook Pro (early 2011) running OS 10.11.4 fonctionnee hot and slow recently.  I turned on Activity Monitor and ntpd (the demon of time network) is constantly to consume 12 to 15% of cycles CPU.  I found an article on the stack Exchange, who said that if you see activity like this on your NTP daemon, it could be a sign that someone used a DRDoS attack.  They suggested defining the demon NTP to refuse incoming network connections - which I do not know how to do.  (I'm on Mac OS firewall).

I took a sample of activities ntpd.  It's a little hyperactive beast.  The ratio is about 2 ½ pages long during only a short excerpt.  I can paste the report into this thread if it helps.

But my real question is: is it normal that ntpd to be so active?  If this sounds abnormal, how can I get the little beast under control?

In case it will help, here is the report of the sample of activity that the activity monitor took of ntpd.  Of course, it seems that he is busy, if all this has to do is sync with a network time service.

  • When, on my home page, I click on the link "transparent popup" in the query "did you mean: transparent popup", NO RESULTS appear in this new tab; How to solve?

I had trouble due, apparently, to a file named popuptransparent [dot] xul, which I have 3 cases on my computer (Win XP/Firefox last v.). Using my window of AVG home page, I get "popuptransparent" (try to fix) and the results appear OK. But then when I click to a new tab, on the "transparent popup" link in the query "did you mean: transparent popup", NO RESULTS appear in this new tab. In addition, when I reload then the Panel of AVG which sought to 'popuptransparent' in the first place, it, too, shows now no results. Or a panel shows Google now no results. They show the quantity of results, but just white screens for the results themselves.

    Links https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/948804?esab=a & as = aaq and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/952141?esab=a & as = aaq brings me. I re-installed Firefox v. 20.0.1 nothing works. How to fix?

Should I remove it from my computer all 3 of these instances of xul [dot]?

Regarding the problem of searching, you can check the extension "Disconnect"? I think it could affect the Google sites and third parties who use Google. You can disable or try its button Options here:

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

While you're there, you can disable all extensions essential and unrecognized. When in doubt, turn off.

After restarting Firefox, did you notice a difference?

Could you explain in more detail the next part?

Should I remove it from my computer all 3 of these instances of xul [dot]?

Is this something that came in a security sweep? What question do you think they are originally? They are located in a folder extensions?

  • Server NTP - DST Chile

    Good afternoon:

I live in the Chile and as some know, the time of energy savings change is pretty hectic down here.

The Government has recently decided to return to the May15th to August winter time. Of course the time servers Apple (site time.apple.com) do not take into account this adjustment of random winter weather. However, there is a time-line server called ntp.shoa.cl success of the Chile that always updates itself very well.

    My questions are the following:

-Can I add this server to the list of servers available through system preferences?

-Does this mean that time will always update this server?

-How the zone affects this server? Should I leave it on Santiago, Chile?

Of course, my idea is to set up a server and it never change.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Stan.

The time servers NTP purge UT/UTC/Zulu time and not the local time.  They don't know what time zone you are using.

You're going to need an update of your database of local time zone rules.    That can either be changed manually, or - pending a whole updated Apple rules - set the offset manually in System Preferences > Date & time > time zone or (more probably) from the command line.

From what I've seen of him, the Chile is used to make changes of last minute, no pun intended - for DST.   This means that everyone tends to be a little behind on the latest distribution of the whole of the zone rules.

If you want more details on how to do this, here is an overview of a few years ago - read this and the comments, the database (formerly at elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub) Olsen moved to IANA several years ago.   There is an old write-up I posted about this a few years ago or an another writeup, too.  Of this old write-up...

    LS - lah/etc/localtime

    zdump - v/etc/localtime. grep 2016

After a quick glance, it will probably be the following manual offset, at least until your Americas/Santiago definition for a local production upward with the correct definitions:

    sudo ln-s/usr/share/zoneinfo/Etc/GMT + 4/private/etc/localtime

But if this does not work, try to GMT - 4.  (IIRC, POSIX tends to do the GMT offset direction, um, differently from everyone else.)

And yet once, if you decide to modify the databases directly and rebuild them with the zic, the database of canonical rules flies from the elsie to IANAserver.

I need to stop a download of the query, that I thought a stand-alone application but turns require a higher level (FCPX) as a 'parent' and I do not have that, or I want to buy it.

Motion IS a stand-alone application. It is mainly designed to make effects for Final Cut Pro X, but it is not necessary to have with FCPX nor is it necessary to have FCPX to create projects for other purposes. When you open the query, simply select project of work outside the FCPX motion. You can save regular projects of Motion anywhere on your system.

The modem uses a virtual com port. It s not a real port.
I wonder why it usually happens after the installation of the new operating system, you must install drivers Toshiba together in the right order
Installing the chipset utility is important

The modem driver should do the work and you n t need to activate com ports
Please choose the right side of the page of the Toshiba driver modem driver after installing the OS correctly. I think that's the key

  • find on a query page breaks

When you search on a page by using the function FIND of Firefox, it ignores the query on the results page if it is in a link. Example: using Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc, I search for "airplane" (without the quotes). On the results page, I am looking for aircraft. The Firefox FIND function ignores the word "aircraft" if it's in a link. He finds it if it is plain text. I used the safe mode, deleted the cache - not good. Updated 3 addons in need. Check the list of embarrassing addons - none of my friends are on it. I have reset to the default values - no good. Then I copied localstore.rdf and prefs.js to a different location and renamed those in the profile. When I restarted Firefox the problem disappeared, but then where my addons (that's all I noticed;) I've always had my favorites). Then I changed the 2 files their original name. My favorites were back but was the problem. With the help of 3.6.17

No problem here as long as I can see the text to highlight all find them also all occurrences.

Make sure that sensitive has not activated (Ctrl + F or Edition > Search)
