Demon NTP using a lot of cycles CPU

My MacBook Pro (early 2011) running OS 10.11.4 fonctionnee hot and slow recently.  I turned on Activity Monitor and ntpd (the demon of time network) is constantly to consume 12 to 15% of cycles CPU.  I found an article on the stack Exchange, who said that if you see activity like this on your NTP daemon, it could be a sign that someone used a DRDoS attack.  They suggested defining the demon NTP to refuse incoming network connections - which I do not know how to do.  (I'm on Mac OS firewall).

I took a sample of activities ntpd.  It's a little hyperactive beast.  The ratio is about 2 ½ pages long during only a short excerpt.  I can paste the report into this thread if it helps.

But my real question is: is it normal that ntpd to be so active?  If this sounds abnormal, how can I get the little beast under control?

In case it will help, here is the report of the sample of activity that the activity monitor took of ntpd.  Of course, it seems that he is busy, if all this has to do is sync with a network time service.

  • Firefox using a lot of CPU (90% + sometimes)

I use firefox version 26.0 on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8 version and I run these http://i.imgur.com/Co4NlGQ.png and http://i.imgur.com/Co4NlGQ.png extensions. I'm also using these plugins http://i.imgur.com/ZO55Lmq and http://i.imgur.com/IapcvJY and I have disabled all plugins, and which has not helped because the CPU usage always fluctuated close to 10% all the way up to 100% usage.

I checked to see if the plugins are up to date and I updated one of them, but the most recent update of Java Applet Plugin works only with Maverick, which I did not. QuickTime said it is not up-to-date, but when I checked the software update on my Mac, it says there is no update available.

Image of the plugins I checked to see if they were updated http://i.imgur.com/fPuV8vD and http://i.imgur.com/7Uwp5vX and http://i.imgur.com/N0Cz9Tp http://i.imgur.com/6FIwVTv aaand.

Here is a picture of my activity monitor (I got all plugins disabled here) http://i.imgur.com/j6xUudo . As you can see, the CPU usage is 99.6%, which is huge given only, I opened a webpage (reddit) and was not running videos and others. And here's a picture of my activity with more information http://imgur.com/zuY5iMu monitor. The real Mem can go all the way up to 2 GB, which is a bit worrying.

I tried to reset Firefox, which did not help, I tried from FF in safe mode, which did not help, and I even tried to reinstall FF, that did not help. I also tried disabling "using hardware acceleration", restarted my computer, and the issue was not fixed. I used CCleaner to clear temporary files and other, but it won't do any good.

I really want to be able to use Firefox, because I'm starting to be wary of Chrome, but if FF only use a lot of memory and CPU, I'm not sure that I can continue to use this browser.

I feel I hit dead ends on everything I tried, so I'm starting to lose hope. Did someone help any idea or suggestion as to what I should try / do?

I have never seen that, perhaps, simply a reset will fix all the problems.

    NOTE that RESET WILL NOT:

    • Delete bookmarks, saved passwords, Form Data, history, tabs open (if you use Firefox 25 and more).

A discount to ZERO will BE:

    • Delete the Addons, Custom Prefs, Configurations of toolbar, search engine settings

More on reset (and how to achieve it) can be found here.

If you want to be safer, you can save your profile (its likely will not be necessary)

  • Flash uses a lot of CPU

I don't know when this started, but recently whenever I visit Web sites that use some or a lot of Flash, Firefox slows down completely. When I went in my task manager, I saw that FlashPlayerPlugin.exe was using a lot of CPU (109, 396 k to be exact). Actually, there are two open process. In the past I've never seen these before in Task Manager, but now it is a problem. Any ideas?

Nevermind, I found a solution. It seems that there is a new feature implemented by Flash called Protected Mode. To disable it, you must go to C:\WINDOWS\Macromed\Flash then open a text called mms.cfg file and add the following text: ProtectedMode = 0. To disable.

  • the process Svchost.exe to netsvcs uses a lot of memory (~ 600 MB) and 100% cpu

I have windows xp edition sp3 family. I hit the power button to hibernate the pc but I think an automatice update was running.  Pc crashes when windows resumes after hibernation. I forced a re-boot, but now the svchost.exe to netsvcs process uses a lot of RAM and CPU. I have a Dell Dimension 8250 with 1 GB of RAM. Svchost uses > 600 MB of memory and 100% of the CPU unless I have stop the DHCP service. When I stop DHCP the svchost stops using CPU and memory affected slowly decreases to about 150 MB and remains at this level. But without DHCP I do have access to the network.

After installing SP3 recently I started having some weird problems, as I lost my printer and had to re - install the software. Also noticed that after re-booting and desktop appears completely empty, the screen turns white and the taskbar at the bottom will appear empty for about 30 seconds, then reappears. PC seems to be more slow tha before installing SP3.

I've tried everything. Nothing stopped the svchost to chew all the memory, virtual memory and time processor. Had to re - install windows xp.

  • Solution for Google Chrome (Helper) by using a lot of ram and cpu on mac os x

    Hi all

Some people have several tabs of google chrome, and it's using a lot of RAM. It also causes the fan go crazy sometimes. I looked for a solution for centuries, but no solution has allowed, until I stumbled upon the simple solution to use a google chrome extension that hibernates unused tabs. The problem has now completely disappeared.

There are a few different extensions that Hibernate unused tabs, but the only extension which has enough options setting to do what I want, is called "The Great Suspender".

You can set the time, after which the Hibernate (sleep) tab. The tab automatically resumes when it focuses on, (i.e., you don't need to then also click on a specific button). And the tabs of the extended day before will remain in hibernation after you restart the computer.

There are many other parameters that can be changed. (After you have made changes, don't forget to click the 'save changes' button.)

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • Archive maintenance brakes not getting enough cycles CPU

That is the message in the logfile etc on one of my knots in a configuration of two cluster for content server.
12:16:54.480 05.05 (internal) Archive lock Thread maintenance archive is not getting enough cycles CPU.

Should I be concerned, and if that's the case, what is the solution for this problem?

    Thank you, Ken

The message says that the system of the content server is on (because of the content server or other applications) is so busy doing either one.) CPU use b.) Too much disk activity (space for Exchange, readers of network files, etc.) that the lock held by a thread "heartbeat" cannot get enough time to keep its lock in a reliable way. The problem is surprisingly easy to create on some systems just by starting a bunch of copies of the great repertoire, while the content server is busy.

A scenario typical where I see that happen is when someone starts a couple of simultaneous batchloads, contained refinery running aggressively and made a lot of check-in. It will also tend to occur more often on load balancing servers. It is usually a good idea to increase some of heartbeat timeouts in balancing environments if the network shared by the server file system is not a file system performance WITHOUT style.

I don't know if you use this variable of the whole (ArchiverDoLocks = true), but here's some information about it:

Set to true if you want to auto imports or transfers with more content server then shares an instance. This option enables an algorithm of locking on files to archive at the file system level. If one instance is automatic imports or transfers in a load-balanced configuration, this indicator should not be set to true.
So I would say that, no, you don't need it if you do not archive on multiple servers

At the end of account, if you do not no matter what archive between multiple nodes you don't need the
ArchiverDoLocks = true - try to remove that and see what happens.

    I hope this helps.

  • Flash player 11.3.300.262 is using a lot of memory

Since the update flash a few days ago, that the plugin uses a lot more memory than usual. He uses normally between 150 MB to 200 MB, but now I've seen him use up to 900 MB.

I noticed that the memory use increases of 5 MB or more, when you browse through a video until I stop the plugin because of the ridiculous amount of memory used.

Please check if all your plugins are up to date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you are there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see in the list of plugins that have a yellow button to update or a red button update now , please put to update these immediately.

To do this, click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps in the installation process.

I bought an iphone 5 c less than 2 months ago, and even if I don't use a lot of storage, I still almost nothing GB, what it can be?

Apps, music, images, even the contacts you add etc - all of these things take a valuable storage capacity on your phone.

Your backup device, delete it and then restore from the backup, maybe this will help free up space.

  • I use a lot my daily life of the computer. I hear CLICKING noises that are not caused by me! Who and where are the clicks noises coming from? Is there a ROOTKIT, someone somewhere romoting access my internet service?

Is there a Rootkit, or someone somewhere romoting access my internet service?  I use my computer for several hours every day.

This year I went through a CRASH my system in September due to my memory stick in my digital camera INFECT my computer.  I bought a new computer that's how it was.  I'm also a MODEL all CIS although I am learning.  Since then, I've downloaded the AMOUNTS of VIRUS protection.  Of course, I didn't know it was my stick of memory from my digital camera which has infected my computer, I only understood what a month ago.  So, you guessed it, even my brand new computer became infected soon enough.  I recently did a RESTORE on it, which has erased everything.

My point is, I had about 4 people from remote access my computer to try to resolve the various problems with it several times last year.  These people are found in various places: Argentina, India, Phillippians.  I found it interesting.  Whenever they take control of my computer from their remote location.  Once the session is completed, they finished their access.

Why what I hear clicking then I use my computer?  As I wrote this, I heard it about five times.  What is it?  Why gives me the feeling that someone is using my internet.  Talk about paranoia, makes me think that they can get in my email when I look at my bank account etc.  Is there a possibility that this actually happens or not?

My son has a laptop that he uses a lot with the internet service that I use.  His laptop using WI - FI.  It uses the X - Box live wi - fi.  These things are going at the same time while I use my internet connection.  Would this be causing clicks?  I would like to know if there is violation of privacy occurring and/or and "OUT OF BOUNDS" type of question, where someone from a remote location using my Comcast service internet and maybe even can see confidential things on my personal login.

    Thank you, WG

I used my mouse that you asked and he makes no noise whatsoever (it's a laser wireless mouse) - well it makes a rattling noise when I click with the right button or left mouse on an icon as it should, but nothing outstanding at all - is the click made by the mouse when you click on an icon or a hyperlink that you speak?  And you say he doesn't mouse, but from somewhere inside the computer?

Someone smart enough to gain access to your system to be able to do the things you're afraid of that happening is smart enough to make sure that the computer does not have a noise when it occurs to give the fact that it happens.  In addition, access would be through the network connection so let's do a test.  Remove the connection from the system (I mean disconnect the cable or ethernet connection or remove the wireless card or go to network connections and sharing and disable every single network, you will find (don'tdelete - just disable their) or better yet, just remove the connection of the moden provided by the ISP, so there is NO WAY) a connection could get through.  Then see if clicks continues.  If so, it has antyhing to come with your internet connection or a pirate in your accounts. If it does not go far, it is possible that some network devices is originally of the problem (or that you are currently connected to a web site that generates the rattling noise, but I seriously doubt that this is a sign that everybody won that kind of access to your system (even if it could be malware as I mentioned earlier).

I honestly have no clue what inside the computer could cause this noise that often and that constantly. It is not a problem of software for me.  I still think you should try the suggestions I made in my previous post (especially the search for malware and do a clean boot).

If you this concerned and you have tried everything that has been recommended, I stick a reputable computer repair shop and ask them to check it out. If it occurs when they use the computer, they should be able to find the source even if they remove all to do.

    I hope this helps.
