Query style InDesign

Hello, I've been racking my brain trying to figure how the best way to recreate the first couple of words in yellow box in Indesign CS6 (see attachment). Whenever I have try this using the paragraph styles the yellow box suddenly finds himself at the bottom of the paragraph. I can easily create it with the yellow box on its own line, but when you have the box and the body of the text on the same line as a whole.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This can be done with a underscore that must be saved as a character style to make it easy to apply. See this screenshot for some details, but you will need to play with the settings.

I can click the menu drop-down, select the option Add, but he just can't.

Have you tried to export the document as an InDesign Interchange document and then reopen again. The Exchange format is as a no frills InDesign document which (from my understanding) is really just a set of instructions for InDesign reconstruct the document from scratch.

    * So now all the mac you'd go to file-> Export

    * Select "Indesign Interchange" in the drop-down list format

    * Select a destination for the file (e.g. office)

    * Close the offending document

Find of the newly created file (which ends with. INX) and open it

  • Change the paragraph by Script Style

    Hello!

I don't know if this is the right place for this question but since its related to scripting, I'll ask here.

Is it possible to change the paragraph Styles InDesign with a Script?

For example, I need set Format1 hyphenation to specific values properties without changing the other properties. For Format2, I need to change other properties such as the Glph scaling.

Like I need to do this with a lot of files, I suppose that the best way to archive it could be a script.

Is there someone who had an idea on how to do it?

    Thanks in advance

    Thomas

You're right, this can be done very effectively with a (relatively) simple script. This is an excerpt from a longer script of mine which covers a changing choice of design of end minutes documents open at once:

    for (i=0; i

For a list of all paragraph properties that you can change, look in the ESTK help or (in a more user-friendly way to read and search) in an online version of these same data: InDesign ExtendScript API (10.0).

  • Is it possible to automatically check the paragraph Styles?

Changes to a paragraph style are indexed with a star. That shows you where the styles are not applied correctly - as long the cursor is in this line or paragraph.

But is there a way to index changes automatically? As you can for example check and index wrong spelling by the correction tools or the low resolution of preflight...?

To show all the "bad points" without clicking on each paragraph.

You can create a custom preflight profile to check text replacements: InDesign help | Preflight files before transfer. The property that you want to check is 'Text', then 'Paragraph Style and character Style overrides'. Be sure to turn off all other controls, because they slow down the whole process.

To check if all paragraphs will have a style assigned, search for [no paragraph Style]: InDesign help | Find/replace, scroll down to find and edit the text in the shape.

  • Self-propagating ampersands in GREP in a paragraph style

Hello. I use GREPs in paragraph styles (InDesign CS6) the color of specific words and struck a strange thing, when the words I'm trying to color include an ampersand (&).

The style works fine the first time, but if I call the paragraph style, and extra sales begins to appear in the GREP expression, not only to the expression, I am changing, but other expressions that include an ampersand as well.

Example: I enter track ^(?i)------& field

The next time I have change a grep in this style, the grep goes to the track to ^(?i)------& & field. ^(? (I) then track------& & & field.

If I go out the extra mostapha, only to see them back. And have a space or not having not spaces on each side of the ampersand does not work

impact on the problem. I tried to use \s instead of space, but it makes no difference. I also tried dumping my InDesign preferences and export the document as a file .idml in an effort to clear all funky.

Has anyone seen this? Thank you!

Sorry, I have never seen it before.

A vague assumption: many styles with Grep?

But maybe you try this instead:

I've been there. It was a long time ago, but I still remember the confusion and despair.

First, know that you will survive and ask what was the hang up. If you are a special person, do you promise never to forget what was the hang up, then you can help others when it is time to pay back the community.

Think about how things work without paragraph styles. When you want a paragraph to look a certain way, regardless of the software you have used to work with text, you select ("highlight") some text and look for ways to style it (check its appearance, or 'attributes' or 'features' or 'features'.) You choose a font (Helvetica, Times, etc.) weight ("BOLD", extra bold, light), a color of text, an angle (italic, Roman), the space between the lines ("leading,") space between paragraphs (space before, space after,) and so on. Without named styles, you must select each property in a menu or a list when the text is selected. The next time that you want this same paragraph look, you can recall everything you did and repeat with newly selected text, or you can copy and paste one that looks, then change the text inside.

However, it does take long to realize that he has to be a way to save these settings and pull them up and slap them on the other selections, with a few clicks and make sure that you don't forget to do something. Creation and registration of collection of a paragraph of the property settings are called "define a style." Software for manipulation of more modern text can save paragraph styles that apply to full paragraphs, and they can also save character styles, which apply to parts of the text in a paragraph. A paragraph of normal text can be used a style called 'body '. You can select a bunch of miscellaneously style paragraphs and apply the body style for them with a single click on the paragraph styles list.

If you decide that you would like the body to look different style, you can redefine, and all paragraphs in the active document using the body style change to show the look of the new definition.

In a body paragraph, you can have same bold italic bold text and italictext and so on. You can always select text in a paragraph and find a menu that offers characters bold or italic in the selected text. But you can also create a character for each of these apparitions style and apply them to music. As for paragraph styles, character styles are more controllable and more useful than simply highlight and apply a property. If, you use a character style that applies "BOLD", you can change its character style definition and all the places it is used in a document will show the change.

Here is an example which shows the usefulness of the styles of characters named:

According to the standard style for writing guides that have been developed before computers, scientific names, the words of the foreign language in a host as the English language, the titles of the documents, movies and poems and a few other things are supposed to be italicized. With character styles, you can create and apply styles of characters for each category of text in italics. In this forum, * sapiens, The Pentagon Papers and Gone With the Wind, all look the same, but with character styles, styles, named 'scientificName', 'bookTitle', and 'filmTitle', can distinguish between texts in italics. Sometimes, you gotta be able to treat these things differently, and styles is a way to keep them organized.

Most writing tools can create a style named for the existing sample. So, if you have customized a paragraph for your body text, you can use InDesign to set the body of the paragraph in the example chosen style.

Google search for terms like 'InDesign create the paragraph of the selection style,' "InDesign redefine style', 'Create a character style, InDesign' and"InDesign tutorial character and paragraph styles."

    Kind regards

  • Documentation of definitions of style

New to InDesign and in my apprenticeship, I inherited a document with a bunch of paragraph and character styles. I want the styles to the document as part of a style guide for a project I'm working on that. Is there a way to generate a list of all the styles of paragraph and character with the name and attributes in some form so that I don't have to document each manually?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Google search for terms like "styles InDesign plugin script reports" without the quotes to the resources. Tools for earlier versions of InDesign can seem to work, but probably will not include the style attributes that have been added in later versions.

  • Export to EPUB: multiple HTML tags?

How to map styles InDesign for export to EPUB/HTML as the content can be rolled up inside two tags, as follows:

    < span class = "font2" > < quote class = "font2" > font selector! < / name > < / span >

    or

    < class p = "Center" > < span class = "Center" > * < / span > < / p >

If InDesign doesn't have this feature, which is the more programmatic, automated way to go to achieve this result?

    Thank you.

In my opinion, this isn't the way it is intended to be used by Adobe, but GREP-style in the paragraph styles allow you to play on a certain level with your request. According to your criteria of GREP, you can select the entire paragraph or selective words or phrases. Here is an example of wrapping the two styles of child with the paragraph style:

  • Do not take into account the specific content during import?

File > place > Windows (select "Show Import Options") > customize Style Import > Style mapping... >

    [MS Word Style: title 1 > > > Style InDesign: title 1]

Question: How do I configure the resulting "InDesign Style: title 1 ' so that the CONTENT is either:

    (1) no imported in InDesign

    (2) deleted during the import process.

    (3) completely ignored by InDesign?

    Is this possible?

If not, is there some type of script that could handle this, and where that might be?

    Thank you.

Go in Edition > find/replace. Let the Search and change empty fields, click on the icon next to the section to find Format (circled in red in my screenshot) and when the Parameters of Format to find window appears, select the paragraph style. If you click Search, you will find the first bit of text style with this style. Click Edit, so this will change the text to what is entered in the field of the currency , which is nothing, it will remove the text. You can use any combination of find, find next, change, change all or Change/find to control what is selected and deleted.

  • Headers/XML [CS3] running

I'm looking for assistance under headers XML based files.

At present, we generate index for our Atlas by importing XML from the mapping in a variety of styles InDesign software. The import is done via a JavaScript script that generates the final document of up to four XML files and addresses pages until all the date is placed.

Within each entry in our index, we have a dummy tag < runner > it sits around the first three letters of each entry and has a partner character style. Our running headers are then generated using this text variables and the style of characters in InDesign.

so far, it worked well as all entries in the index have been black and the runner character style was pretty much a clone of the paragraph style in which it is located, these means that the letter assigned 3 do not look different from the index, but can be referenced for the running header.

The problem we have now is that it is necessary to have more than one color of type with the index and therefore required more style to a paragraph according to the color of the entry. This means that the characters 3 runner must be able to match their parent paragraph. As that character styles seem not to be able to have the null color value as they can to the point etc. size, we need to have one for each of the required colors, and thus running headers will not work as we now have the character potentially more than one style to work.

I suspect that this could be a shot in the water, but I was hoping that someone can point out something have missed us in the actual app, or be able to point us in the right direction regarding the script to generate the header running directly from XML, setting either way any help appreciated.

I am attaching a zip file containing a sample with already imported data file (only a mannequin in no case an index finished). Examples XML to show the current structure, with which we are working and the section of the JavaScript that generates this particular product (normally located in a script more that loads at startup and generates menus Associates)

  • Cut and paste in Indesign style names

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum.

I have a question about the cut and paste in Indesign: Let's say I have two documents.

-In the first, I have several rules of paragraph style, let's say style1, style2, style3.

-In the second document, I have exactly the same paragraph style (style1, style2, style3) names, but different formatting rules (for example in doc1 style1 is 13 times, the same style1 doc2 is Minion 11).

What I want to do is to copy the text of document 1, the selected paragraph style name, but not the setting shaped styles. So when I did the copied text in document 2, can I get the text automatically style with rules of formatting of document 2.

I can't find a way to do it: I cut & spent keeping the formatting, but not the names of the styles only.

Did someone in the face of this problem or have a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi everyone and thanks for your help.

I finally found out why the cut & paste has not worked for me.

The problem was that in doc1, I put all my styles in a folder, while in doc2 (take a guess!) No.

That was the problem. Once I put in a folder with the same name as doc1 doc2 styles, everything worked magically.

    Thank you very much!
