Question about Vista Factory restore

I would like to know if I can safely move my documents on the disk named "D: Recovery", reinstall to factory settings and then retrieve my documents from there.

I don't know if the process of restoring to factory settings will restore the drive D: (crushing everything that I put on it) as well.

I had a hard drive failure and restoration on a new hard drive. The original HD is a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 model ST 3500620AS. The new HD is a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 model ST 3500641AS - RK. I bought a set of restore for this HP computer disks.

First problem was that disk 1 does not start from the internal CD/DVD drive. My Seagate drive boots fine on the same drive! I used an external USB CD/DVD drive and restore disks worked well on that. I went through the process of factory restore and in the end, I get an error message "installing Windows could not configure Windows to run on this computer hardware." I tried to change the BIOS setting from ACHI and IDE to SATA RAID with no luck. I tried to unplug the USB CD drive before the first reboot. That no longer works.  I unplugged the internal CD drive and tried different combinations with no luck. Need help I have run out of things to try! Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts?

    Hello:

I don't know how you can get your recovery discs to work.

Looks like you have tried everything.

I had problems with mine too and got the same error on a HP Elite 8200 desktop computer business

It was the first time I've ever had a problem with recovery disks.  It's very frustrating.

I have a workaround if all goes well, you can use to get Vista on your PC...

If you can read your 25-character product key MS, you can make your own Windows Vista installation disc. You just download the 3 files you need on the link below and read all the instructions to create a Setup bootable DVD disk using imageburn.

It was not so hard to do. I burned both the disk of 64-bit and 32-bit disk in case I ever need them.

I tested both of them (just before going forward with the actual facility) and they seem to work perfectly.

Apparently, when you enter the product key, he knows which version of Vista you have.

After you have successfully installed vista, you can download the drivers you need your PC support and driver page.

    Hello

Here are the different ways to reinstall vista

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Dell Inspiron laptop, Windows Vista Factory restore problems :(

Hi, I'm a poster first. My computer knowledge is empowered moderate, so please cut me some slack! I hope someone can help me, I would be very happy.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop computer and the operating system Windows Vista 32. I recently tried a factory restore. I wish that I would have looked at this site before I tried.

I finished the factory restore, but I think that I made a mistake. I have saved all the files except my music files, because I didn't think anything was important. I'm stoopied. Now, when I try to use my computer is a few things wrong with it.

1 there is no way to connect to or even to recognize a wireless network. I have one in my house who previously worked a lot with my computer. When I use windows to diagnose the problem: "this computer has an adapter installed and configured wireless device." If I click on the button that says "install wireless networking equipment and verify that the correct drivers are loaded. Up is a window "Solve driver problems" which is almost useless.

    2. when I try to run a program, for example already installed windows Mah Jong Titans, on the computer I get this message: "exceleration material is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow down the performance of the game. Good so my video card is not well configured. Now that I look, the resolution looks really different than before. Kind of a blur. I use my computer to run the music production software so I don't know that this is going to work.

    3. I have the DVD of re-installation of the operating system. I also have the CD of resources that contains all of the drivers (or other.) I can't load the drivers, or even knowing which ones I should install.

I guess that I just want to know what I do to recover my computer at 100%. I hope that my problem is not too broad or too specific, but I hope some feeling there out a pain and can help out me.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    -nick

OK, the factory restore (takes 10 minutes) is less work because everything is done and you do not have to load drivers or utilities. In any case, it is easy to do and you have all that on the drivers and utilities CD. There might be a few steps on the CD, but you can download Dell. Once you have reinstalled Windows back post and I'll tell you the order in which to load your drivers. To do this: equip your Windows DVD. Everything that comes close to her. Restart the computer. As soon as you see the Logo Dell press F12. You will see the start page. Select your drive (should already be highlighted) and press ENTER. Press a key, install now, accept licenses, instructions are not always the same for each computer, depends on your configuration. Take your time, follow the instructions carefully. You must delete all data from your hard drive (C :) and the NTFS file system format. Also delete (D :), it's where is the factory restore.) You can post back if you arrive at a page (just stop there and wait for my reply) you don't understand.

I have a Dell XPS ONE and used the option to restore to the factory due to several problems. The system is 4 years old and maintain a 4 year old Windows Vista Home Premium system proved to be too much for me to handle.

When I try to update Windows, I managed about 60 updates, but then I get to the SP 1. He tells me that it is installed, but then I go to the update again and it tells me that I need SP I... I can go through the same indefinitely, SP 1 installation, but he always tells me that I need to install Service Pack 1 even if it was just installed successfully. Aparently, SP 1 is not installed correctly, but it tells me that it is installed. It is not!

In the meantime, I can ' t reinstall Norton Internet Security. He tells me that I need SP2 for Vista.

It is good, that you can not install Norton Product.  Stop trying.  No McAfee either.

Avast, AVG, Avira , or UnThreat are choices fine (free option).
You could spend ~ 60USD during two years of eSET NOD32 AntiVirus (not more - just product AntiVirus) and which would be more worthwhile.

Regarding SP1 - do this manually.  Windows Vista Edition _, _ - bit? [Fill in the blanks]

Download and save the SP1 that is appropriate for your architecture of Vista (32-bit or 64-bit) operating system (on your desktop).  Reboot and logon.  Right click on the saved file and choose Run as administrator.  Follow through until it's done and restart with 5 minutes between each restart twice.

Then download updates post-SP2 via normal means.

  • Question about Vista Recovery CD Toshiba

I don't know why laptops Toshibas are sold with this kind of installation disc.
If something happens and the system needs to be reinstalled then whole hard disk will be deleted. And also what it installs this Norton Internet Security? Not everyone likes it.
It would be much better to sell just the cd with system and cd with drivers separately.

P.S. y at - it a repair utility for this backup cd which will not remove HD set. Where is boot loader Editor?
I have spent many hours trying to run XP and Vista on dual boot before I succeed.

    Hello

Why you're so angry shouting at them? I Don t understand it. You know, there are 100,000 customers and machines and noone of them had a problem with this recovery system.

To these people like you, who are dissatisfied with their handling and their marketing, they release the drivers on their site so you can get a separate operating system
AS YOU WOULD LIKE and then you can install it as you need.
Regarding Norton: If you don t like it, uninstall it and the problem is solved. And how do you know, people like him or not. Maybe not everyone's a computerfreak like you,
There are some people that they don t know not even how to install an operating system, and they are happy to have something delivered to their BONES "factory-installed" who cares about the security of the system.

If you are more familiar with computers, just install the system and make individual for you. I think that toshiba has nothing to do with, when you don t get the thing LIKE YOU HAVE is in your view.

So I Don t want to offend you, I want to show you, this toshiba must produce for the masses, and they give the geeks like us a limited chance to create an individual system on our machine.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A300 - question about Vista license key

    Hi all,

I bought an A300-149 with preinstalled Vista.
One of my friends told me, the partition that was used to install Vista is not useful, it consumes space from my HARD drive, so I deleted the partition and rearranged the partitions that I was going to use them.

I just found out it's a big mistake to do that, because the contained all partition drivers and Vista with the license key.
I'm losing my windows license, if I eventually have to reinstall it? (I have the label on the underside of the computer with the key...)
I can not download the content of this partition (in the form of an ISO standard) somewhere in this site? (and use the key to the label, as it is usually done with the software)

I paid for this OS... so I don't understand why I have not received a DVD with the software? (When I opened the box, I was looking for the DVD and I wandered why he is missing...)
    It's frustrating...

    Waiting for your answers,
    Thank you

    Hello

It's really stupid situation now, but certainly not frustrating.
Here a few facts to better understand:

New Toshiba laptops are delivered without recovery DVD and images of recovery is recorded on the second partition. All of us must create own recovery media. To do this, this Toshiba has designed little tool called creator of Toshiba recovery disc. With this tool, you can create recovery recovery CD and DVD. When you have these media you can do with the data you want. To install Vista over these media must be used.

So many people may forget or simply ignore it. Because of this Toshiba has designed reminder with the trace message:

Because of this, Toshiba has designed little reminder that will be shown in short time after first start with track contents:

    * Important INFORMATION *.

    * your system is equipped with a hard drive recovery system. If you need repair *.
    * your computer in the restaurant to original factory State, you can do it directly *.
    * from the HDD (press F8 when you start your computer, choose 'Repair your computer' *)
    * and follow the instructions in the menu) or create a bootable recovery for this fin.* drive carrier

    * Toshiba recommends you create recovery disk medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to *.
    * ensure hat you are able to restore your computer to the factory installed state, even if your computer is severely damaged.*

    I can't imagine you didn t see.
In any case, your friend probably has no idea how it works, and now you have a problem.
To be honest you have no problem, but the additional costs. You can order the following original Toshiba disk link given by Akuma, but you must pay for it.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Protégé M200: Question about Vista TPM and the Bitlocker

You want to know if I have a TPM chip to launch bitblocker on the M200 using Vista. Just call Toshiba Technical Support - the guy was totally distraught!

If I don't have a TPM chip, then I can install it?

    Hello

It is a good question. To my knowledge the Portege M200 does not support TPM but the Portege M400, R400 module and the R200

But the Bitlocker, which is only available on the Vista Enterprise and ultimate can also be used without the TPM chip but then some functions are not available; for example, the SecureBoot.
Without TPM only the OS volume encryption is available.
In this case you can encrypts the entire Windows volume including both data and file system user, the file of hibernation, the page file and the temporary files.

Using volume of BONE (HDD) encryption an encryption key will be generated. This key will be written to the USB and then the USB is required!

AFAIK the Bitlocker requires 2 partitions. A partition must be created as needs at least 50 MB primary partition. I recommend a? about 1.5 GB
The second big partition Vista can be installed.

After the installation of Vista the Bitlocker must be enabled in Group Policy (units without secure TPM). This can be done using the command 'gpedit '.
And then under models of administration-> windows components-> Bitlocker bitlocker function can be activated!

Anyway, there is much information Bitlocker and I think you should also consult the Microsoft Web site for more information:
BitLocker Windows Drive Encryption step-by-step guide

    I hope I could help a little

  • Question about Vista performance on satellite Pro M70

I was wondering if anyone knew a lot about the performance of vista. For example, if you run a game under vista it run worse than in Xp because the operating system uses more than the power of the computer?

    Hello

For two weeks, I use Windows Vista on my Satellite Pro M70. The laptop is not Vista capable, but I am very satisfied. It works very well. I tried to install and play older games like Far Cry and IGI2. It works perfectly without any problems.

The set comes with 512 MB of RAM. As I said it works well, but I think that it will work much better with more RAM. I think I'll buy another 1 GB module. With 1.5 GB of RAM, I believe that the unit will operate like a rocket. :)

    Which laptop model you have?

  • Question about Vista upgrade and using Vista on my laptop

My first post so Hello. I'm in North Ireland and just basically competent so keep this in mind if you answer my question below :)

Need some advice on the Vista program upgrade. I am a resident in the United Kingdom and my laptop is an Equium A100-147. I got got a confirmation online and posted number is + a copy of the receipt of purchase to one address in the Netherlands. Also displayed payment (£16,53) at a different address in the Netherlands.

I want to know is the disc I receive an 'upgrade' disc or a full version with an option of a 'complete installation', but also an upgrade? Also if I do an upgrade or a full install and decide that Vista is not to my likeing running recovery disks provided with the laptop will return its supplied as original state? It would be XP MCE.

Vista will have all the necessary drivers for my laptop hardware work or I'm likely to have to install drivers after upgradeing or Vista installation?

    Thanks in advance... John

For most Windows upgrades are complete windows versions. This means that you can do a clean install. During the new installation the installation program will ask for the old cd and check it. That's all.

Of course, it is possible to return your laptop in the State of origin with the old recovery disks.

  • Satellite P200-1FZ: Question about Vista performance index?

I recently bought a P200D-128 announced as having 256 MB of memory graphic dedicated only to find only has a HD2400 with 128 MB card (the name must have been an idea, I know).

I was looking for a model with 256 MB I had read that it was recommended for good graphics performance in Vista.
On the P200-128 model Vista performance index showed:

    Processor: 4.8
    Memory: 5.9
    Graphics: 3.3
    Games graphics: 3.7
    Hard drive: 5.2

If the overall score of 3.3 seems not be limited by the graphics performance.

I now plans to upgrade this model to a P200-1FZ (which has a HD2600 with 256 MB memory card), but would like to know if it significantly improves the score of graphics and Vista performance index.

If anyone has this model (or a relative) and could tell me the VEI score, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Just FYI: I Satellite P200D-111 with ATI Mobility Radeon X 2600 almost 5 months now. I use Vista Home Premium and to be honest, I'm quite satisfied with the performance of Vista. Up to now, I also tested with several games such as Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4, El Matador and older games like FarCry and Max Payne 2 WXP. It works perfectly.

I like Call of Duty 4. He funs all simply fantastic. I do not even use complete running. At the moment I think to upgrade RAM to have better running OS. in the end, I can say one thing: for the reasonable price, I have large notebook.

    Good bye

  • Question about Vista key placed on the bottom of my laptop

Hi all and sorry for my English :)

So, I have laptop X 300-11 L Qosmio. I have Win Vista HP DVD without a key. But on my laptop with Vista Home Premium Product key sticker.
I want to install another Vista, no recovery (too many "useful" programs).

How can I do? If I install my Vista DVD, laptop tell me - product key isn't ok...
    THX

You may think of the ability to remove all software pre-installed, you won't use. Nobody is forcing you to have all the. To be honest, I do the same.

Vista key located under the unit belongs to the operating system included in Toshiba recovery image that you have with your laptop. This key is not a universal key that you can use with each other DVD facilities.

How can I find the drivers? If it is possible, I prefer a package driver for my laptop rather than searching for each driver by one of.

  • Question about Vista install on Equium M70

    Hello
I think of buying a full version of vista home or premium edition. Y at - it a special procedure to install vista on my equium M70-337?

Upgrade Advisor Microsoft vista tells me that the original version would be right for this machine, I was wondering if any problem could happen if I install the premium on this computer instead?

What could be better? to do a clean install, or just upgrade the existing XP?

    Thanks for your help!
    Károly

    Hello

    > Is there any procedure to install vista on my Satellite M70-337

I found on the page of the Toshiba driver a new update of the BIOS designed for Vista. So, it seems that you must update the BIOS before you start the Windows Vista installation.

    > Microsoft vista upgrade advisor tells me that the original version would be right for this machine, I was wondering if any problem could happen if I install the premium on this computer instead?

No, I think you can also use the Home Premium version. There is no major difference between the Home and Home Premium version. The version of Vista Premium provides more OS features. But the performance should be the same.

    > Which is better? To do a clean install, or just upgrade the existing XP?

I recommend you to install Vista on the second partition. In this case, you would be able to use the two BONES. Vista use a Startup Manager and you could choose between XP and Vista.

PS: There is no Vista divers for this laptop at the moment. That's why most of the features of laptop as media, FN keys, buttons etc does not work with Vista
