Question of alignment for VM storage

Hi all

I have a question regarding vmware storage alignment ESXi4.0 Update1 VM I hope that you can help clarify:

I have a couple of Linux virtual machines, I created using VI client so I know that the logical drives are alighned. A virtual machine has a logical drive, and the second VM has two logical drives. I have 2 data warehouses the in ESXi host, datastore 1A the installion of ESXi and VMs are on the data store 2. My question is if I go to browse the data store and move directories VM data store to data store 1 2, restarted the server and then moveed the directories to the data store 2. This causes the logical drives to be out of alignment?

Thanks for your help!

Hello.

No, move these discs will not change alignment on them.

Good luck!

I have a Linksys EA6350 at home that is currently configured with a passport of aging WD for networked storage. It is time for replacement and I'd rather use the current and the replacement of the disks simultaneously on the network.  My first question is if Linksys firmeware accepts disks placed on a USB splitter. If possible, I am also curious to know if the firmware can manage several partitions on a disk.

If one or both are possible, so I wonder if I can set up a RAID 1 mirror without hardware RAID configuration. I know that it's possible on a desktop computer, but the general consensus among the computer saavy, it's that it would not fine performer. However, I'm not very concerned about time to read/write for what I want to store in RAID; I care to ensure that the data is never lost.

In my head, I'm thinking the installation program looks like this:

Dispatcher USB-> Disk 1-> partition RAID 500 GB
    |                        |
    V                      V
Disc 2 500 GB partition mirroring disk 2
    (500 GB)

Thanks for sharing. Our routers Linksys does not support RAID. You can consider a NAS that supports RAID, unfortunately, we do not have a type of House and consumption.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2, with two Windows Storage Server 2003 Standard: How can I add the MAC authentication on top of Active Directory authentication for a storage servers?

I have two running Windows Storage Server 2003 storage servers in a domain R2 Windows Server 2008 Standard.  On top of the Active Directory authentication, I want to add authentication of MAC address for the access to one of the storage servers.  In this scenario, an authenticated user is unable to log on to the target storage server unless the user is also on one of the computers MAC address accepted.  All domain users will have access to other folders and files as configuration storage server in Active Directory.  I already have a user access to installation by the permissions for folders on the storage server target, but I still want to restrict access to specific computers as well.  For what it's worth the server hardware is HP Proliant DL360 G5 for the Standard Server 2008 R2 and server HP Proliant DL185 G5 for two Storage Server 2003 computers.  I don't want to have MAC address authentication as the main means of access control to the network, only for the storage server a as an addition to control Active Directory.

Reference DELL PERC 6/1 SCSI Disk Device, think that these SAS disks.

Question: Installed Hyper-V on the server, but when trying to install the operating system on the virtual machine, it is said: we have found all the disks. For a storage driver, click on load a driver.

Could someone please suggest the correct load drive or where to download it.

    Hello boby

Your question is not related to the material. Unless you use a form any direct IO to enable communication of the VM with material then the virtual machine communicates with the hypervisor.

I suggest that you are looking for guides on the Microsoft Web site to learn how to configure a virtual machine. It seems that you did not create a data store, VHD, assigned to a virtual storage controller or one thing other storage in relation to the virtual machine.

The problem you are experiencing is virtual.

  • Question of topology for 16 seats VSphere training classroom

After reading, study and classes taking, I'm ready to ask this question.

What is the best practice in the establishment of a laboratory in class to teach vsphere 5.0?

The question is too general. I have constraints. Asked me to build a laboratory for 16 students to teach Vsphere 5.0. My boss ordered the material and "that should be enough," said:

    Office systems:

16 Dell Optiplex 755 s with 6 Gig ram, each has 1 network card and 1 esata dock. (I want to install Windows server and VCenter server on these machines)

    What are the KVMed to:

16 Dell Poweredge T110 servers with 16 Gig ram, each has 3-Gigabit Ethernet adapters and 1 external drive USB dock. (I will install ESXi on these servers)

My storage is in the form of the following:

QNAP TS - 879 pro with 8 batteries of 1Terebyte. 2 gigabit ports.

    My network switches are:

1 DLINK DGS 1216T 16 port Gigabit managed switch.

1 NetGear prosafe GS748T 48 port Gigabit managed switch.

Switches No 3 Netgear GS116 16 port Gigabit.

I am struggling with the installer, but I consider the following:

16 desktops and 2 ports of the 16 servers attached to the switch 48 ports. using a total of 48 ports. Using VLANs, can I have my host network management and vmotion network.

As for my storage area network? I guess I can connect some of the ports on one of the switches 16 port and then connect. I know I need at least 18 ports for this. (16 server and 2 for NAS)

I don't know that I need also a production network for my virtual machines. I could 'double' and use the port for management and vmotion or even add the San to the same card. After all, each student would usually only work with a couple of hosts and Vms a half-dozen each.

I have a small rack 12u and for the 4-48 port patch panels. I know some of the other teachers want to use the lab for TCP - IP Fundamentals and Exchange Server classes if I want all panel so that the tcaps cables could be shifted.

Another consideration. The classroom has 20 ports of wall leading to schools gateway router to access the Internet. Should I try to include this as well?

I am reviewing the basic principles, but I would appreciate all help forum members could offer. Some of you people could understand it in your sleep.

P.S. I have an old HP Procurve 4000 M switch with 80 ports that I could come out of retirement if it helps.

Thanks for any advice you could offer.

    Kind regards

    JCT

I know that this thread has been active for some time, but I spent the last 8 months working on my vShpere workshop and teach in virtualization.

The lab is in place and working. My gigabit network infrastructure is able to cope with demand of active exercises I need the students to do. My Qnap NAS feeds LUN walk-in for block iSCSI to students for use by their hosts. We are able to complete the exercises in almost all areas of a beginning of mid-level vSphere and General virtualization courses.

In other words, I thought about it myself.

When I came in this forum last year, I was looking for some tips on how to set up the lab. I assumed I would get some general tips or pointers.

What I got, however, was a question about the question to know if I qualified to teach. Nice answer to my original question!

You may be surprised to discover that I don't no need to be "certified" by any provider of software to understand, use and to teach a subject. Also, people without a PCV could be just as qualified to use the products as those who do not have a cert.

I hope you're proud of your certification, I am sure that you worked hard to receive. Just be aware that VMWare is a software company, no matter how much profit, they make their certification division.

  • Creation of Raw Device Mapping (RDM) is not supported for local storage (1017530)

"Often, localstorage devices do not support VPD page 0x83 and can therefore be used for Raw Device Mappings (RDMS)." The content of the page 0x83 is used as a unique identifier for the device. For more information, see creating Raw Device Mapping (RDM) is not supported for local storage (1017530). »

Does anyone know if this is even the case for modern storage?

We are a dell shop, wishing to take advantage of the ability to create up to 64 TB RDM.

However, the storage of the host in question will be local SAS only.

Prefer not to have to merge muliple 2 TB VMDK into windows to make a record of 4.5 to.

Then projected on the presentation 1 x 4.5 CT rdm

If you plan to use a SAS controller, you should be able to do this. Your drive will be identified as a device of the naa, and you will be able to add as an RDM to VM - only with ESXi 5 (which can support more than 2 TB LUN).

    Printer: HP P1600

After using an HP printer to my work and have installed the drivers "HP Smart Install" has been installed in a form any driver (?) USB.

The option to double click default to any storage device that is inserted into a USB port is now 'HP Smart Install ". I can't remove this function.

I deleted all the drivers for the USB via Device Manager - this has not fixed the problem.

I reformatted the USB (was not empty in the first place - no autoplay files)-no solution.

I returned all the default media - no fix AutoPlay options.

I used SIUtility.exe HP printer drivers and used PC > disable HP Smart Install - no solution.

I completely uninstalled all the computer - no fix HP printer drivers.

This is a screenshot of the feature that I start to remove - http://i.imgur.com/v1IcdZ0.png

Can you please advise how do I completely remove this feature as default double click for a storage device is to "explore".

    AngusMacsalvation,

Sorry that it was not an option to turn off the Smart Install from the integrated Web server.

    I was check this.

Make sure that you run the CD files or program uninstall.

In this way, it must delete all the registry files.

Make sure that the USB cable from the printer is disconnected.

Here are the steps to run the uninstall of the computer or the CD.

    To uninstall program files:
Go to start and select a computer.
    Select the C drive.
Select the program files or program files x 86.
Open the HP name and printer folder.
    Select uninstall.

    Uninstall from the CD:
Go start, computer, right click on the CD for the printer, left click Open in a new window, double click on uninstall.

Remove drivers in server properties, if they are still worn.

Go to start, devices and printers.
    Highlight any printer.
Click the print server properties in the upper part.

Click the tab drivers at the top of the print server properties window.

Choose the printer that you want to uninstall, and then click on remove.

The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that the removal of the driver package will remove it from the system. Click Yes to say that you are sure you want to do.

Then in the window devices and printers, right click on your printer and remove the device if the printer is still listed.

If the printer doesn't figure yet in the Device Manager or in the registry, we would delete there also.

    Keep me posted.

  • Monitor devices blackBerry Z10 - black except for the storage tab

    Hello

My monitor of the device (from quick settings) is completely empty except for the storage tab. This means that battery, processor, and memory are all does not properly.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the community!

Each time a random strange behavior or slowness comes, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:

    • Pre-BB10 ONLY devices. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes.
    • Peripheral BB10. Hold the top button until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the unit to be completely stopped (for example, nothing appears on the screen, no lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red light. Wait through the entire boot process. If this fails, you can try the method of battery-pull above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.

See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

    Good luck!

  • SAS HBA or Raid for R905 for external storage?

So I got a R905 used off ebay.  I wanted to use it for a storage server.  Unfortunately, the LSI SAS HBA or the Areca 1883 work in one of the 7 pci-e slots.  The cards are seen and their bios are launched and start automatic and other tests.  Two of them crash during initialization (it is not a matter of waiting a few minutes - in a trial, let him so all day while I was out).  I know that the slots are not dead, like the map 4-port gbe enet provided with it works great, just like a connection-x 2 infiniband card.  I confirmed that the bios and bmc firmware are the latest and best.  It's a kind of dell 'we do support the controllers dell' thing?  If so, I guess I agree with the purchase of a dell SAS HBA connector sff-8088 with random (since that's what jbod I want to connect using...)  Any thoughts appreciated...

    Hello.

No Dell non-certified controllers are not validated to work properly on Dell servers. But this does not mean that may not work, it's a 50-50 chance. I recommend using certified Dell SAS HBA card such as: manufacturer: 7RJDT | Dell reference: 342-0910. Not so sure on the type of connector
