• Simple question on Essbase Server security settings

  I have a question on the essbase Server security settings. There are three values that I can put here the connection attempts, password and inactive days discount days. My server is not in safety mode of Shared Services. However, the authentication of users is even outsourced. that is, when you create a new user, I select the "use external authentication.

  Yes, you can use maxl to create filters and call the maxl from a batch file script.

• Certification of Essbase 11

  Hi guys, I know a lot of question about essbase certification has already been asked but I have slightly different types of queries. I hope you guys find time to respond.

  I asked oralce what version of essbase is this 1z0-531 certification is and they said for 11.1.2.1.

  1 - is this certification for all the versoin of essbase 11?

  2 - the oracle plans to be upgraded this certification?

  3. If I do this certification, what happens to my old certification? I think I might have to upgrade my certification too?

  I (may be more basic) basic knowledge of essbase. I need an answer about the preparation.

  1. do I need to read additional books other than the oracle documentation?

  2 can do a whole list down the topics we need to prepare for the certification/came under essbase?

  Only Oracle can answer questions about their plans to upgrade the certification.  My guess is they won't later, mainly because there are significant changes in 11.1.2.3.500 from. But you can't take my word for it.

• OBIEE 11 g - Performance Essbase problem

  I have a request to OBIEE with hardcoded filter (for example year '2012' =), the query sent to Essbase contains this filter.
  But if I use the Session Variable in the filter (for example year = NQ_SESSION. VALUEOF (CURRENT_YEAR)), the query does not contain this filter send to Essbase.
  Thus, the query in Essbase take a lot of time, and then OBIEE takes time to filter the data to the server in OBIEE.
  
  My question: how to replace OBIEE Session Variable before sending questionable to Essbase?

  Hi John,

  Maybe you could create a dashboard with your filter and with a default NQ_SESSION value. VALUEOF (CURRENT_YEAR)).
  After in your report, add you a filter "invited" in your field.
  If you wish, you can hide the dashboard prompt to not show.
  It is not the best solution, but it could be a workaround in your case - I didn't test it.

  We are on essbase 11.1.1.3. I have question on essbase studio Connection Wizard, my database is sql server, and it seems that I can not connect to the database using windows user name and passowrd, simply logon sql user.

  As far as I know, it's only authentication SQL server native.

  It was a problem experienced in 11.1.2 all releases so will be the same for 11.1.1.3

• Beginning of the fiscal year

  Hi all

  Sorry to post a question here Essbase. I posted the same on Essbase forum, but I would like to post here thinking that this forum is more active than the other.

  While creating an Essbase application, how to set the beginning of the year and the end? My default application seems to April to March. But I need from July to June. Any idea?

  I have a dimension of years who holds the years. And period dimension has half of the year, quarter, and month, from July. It is an application of Essbase BSO.

  If it's an application pure essbase (not used in planning) you can adjust/recreate the members in the dimension period in order what ever is required.

• In Hyperion network error

  I installed Hyperion V11.1.2 (microsoft windows 32 - bit) on Windows XP Professional Edition. But the problem is sometimes I am able to connect to Essbase Regional service console and sometimes his presentation could not connect to the server, network error. I posted the question in the forum about this and I have tried all the possible solutions.but that nothing works. I tried to install the software in two three machines. Whenever I am faced with the same question.
  
  Essbase server is not in the list of Services .

• Essmsh will not embark on any directory outside the bin (Windows 7)

  Just installed the client Essbase and EAS on my laptop Windows 7 x 64 (Version 11.1.1.3).
  
  I probably installed client tools on 10 different PC from XP to Vista to W7, and this is the first time I saw this question:
  
  The Essbase client installed correctly (for the most part), but I cannot launch essmsh from anywhere except c:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin.
  
  I tried several relocations, and something is always broken. I guess it's a problem with environmental variables, but I took a glance fast and things seem mostly fine.
  
  Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for debugging this.

  I install 11.1.2 version of Hyperion in my machine to practical use. Someone has something on the order of the configuration procedure. If Yes please send me to my gmail ([email protected]), it will be really useful.
  
  I have some doubts: -.
  1. prior to installing 11.1.2 version do I need to install Oracle HTTP server separately or the package also contains the oracle HTTP Server? Kindly let me know
  
  2. in 11.1.2 version it offers the possibility to configure in Oracle HTTP server, and IIS. Y at - it no problem if I configure the Hyperion through IIS, because some of my friends told me that there is some question in Essbase if I configure hyperion with IIS instead of Oracle HTTP server. Kindly let me know if one facing such a problem.

  Oracle HTTP server is part of the 'additional content' installation file, you should make sure you have downloaded the file and extract to the same location as the other installation files.
  I would stick with the help of OSH if this is your first installation.

  You can set up auditing on the planning application. For activation, the Goto Administration-> Reporting-> audit.

  Once you save your options, a log is created in the HSP_AUDIT_RECORDS table.

  There is no report in the schedule that you can run it directly from the web, but you can write SQL queries to the data of saved audit report.

• Question about compression in essbase ASO

  I have a few questions about to define a dimension of compression in Essbase ASO apps:-

  1. is it a good idea to have the size of compressor in app Essbase ASO.

  2. I read somewhere that said it would not be good idea to have the compression period dimension where months YTD neighbourhoods and quarters of the year. So should we put compression on any other dimension dynamic calc and roll ups and have less none of level 0 members stored.

  3. I have observed that when we level 0 export from an ASO application with compressed size vs ASO application with no compressed dimension, there is a difference in size of data export file. I'm not able to understand why it is so. I understand the difference between the size of data (.dat file) between Tablet app vs app uncompressed file, but do not understand the difference when the data is exported to a .txt file.

  (1) compression dimension is not mandatory, but it contributes to the performance. The compression dimension is a dynamic dimension. We need the column headers in a data load file. Ideal compression is achieved if the number of leaf-level members are divisible by 16.

  (2) ASO tuning is an art as much as a science.  The best choice depends on the distribution of data in the database.  and it's different in each database.  Read all the information and then test the various options.  Try it with time as the compression and then try with the next best dynamic dimension defined as dimension of compression.  I've linked a doc tuning which is version 7, but has a very detailed discussion of the dimensions of compression.

  (3) the format of the header (layout) of the export may be different when you use compression vs when you are not using compression.  It will certainly be different if you use another dimension for compression.  I expect the size of the file to edit when the compression setting is changed.
