Question of guided Consolidation

Hi all

I'm going to re - take my test on Wednesday (missed by three darn points the first time), and I was going on the examination plan to see what topics I was not comfortable with.  Objective 6.4: Use the features of guided Consolidation is something that I know I need to go into detail, but I can't seem to find many product literature only Guided Consolidation.  I find a lot of places where Guided Consolidation is briefly mentioned, or it is referred to as a Virtual Center feature, but I can't seem to find anything that provides detailed information that the purpose of the review tells me that I need to know.

I also had problems of documentation on Converter Enterprise, but after a little research, I realize the name has changed and I was looking for the wrong thing.

Anyway.  Someone at - it a link to a .pdf file, or to a resource that explains better Guided Consolidation?  Or is it one of those things I have to put my hands to get what I need for the review?

Thank you

Dan

Hello.  Chapter 7 of the Basic System Administration document covers Guided Consolidation.

Good luck to resume!

I use vCenter 4.1 on a virtual machine and install the plugin Guided Consolidation.  I installed the VMware Converter 5.0.0.4 on the vCenter 4.1 server and vCenter Converter Server under Guided Consolidation shows no "installed" and is not available as a plugin.  I understand from reading some of the other posts that version 5 of the converter is no longer available as a plugin.  Does this mean that I can't use Guided Consolidation?

Another (somewhat related) question.  My ESXi hosts are 4.1 build 348481.  Can I use vCenter 5 to manage the hosts of version 4.1?  Perhaps, who would take care of the issue.  I had to use version 5 of the converter because it fixes a specific problem that I had with version 4.1 of the converter.

I hope that my last question is not considered as too off-topic for this forum.  I'm just trying to put this all together and vmware is a bit new for me.

    Hello

Yes, you can manage ESX4.1 with vcenter5.

Also check if you´ve any problem in the future http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php

To activate the plugin, you must install the converter inside the virtual machine with virtual center installed.

Now, check on your vi client plugin if you have already downloaded and select the plugin of codification, but don't forget, check compatibility.

May confused you´re on installed products, guide consolidation is a product, the converter is another.

  • vCenter 4.1 Guided Consolidation: bad powers or insufficient privileges

    Hello

After a week of unsuccessful attempts (including harvesting, forums and search engines), I turn to the community for possible help.

    I did the following:

    • installed Guided Consolidation on our machine of vCenter Server 4.1.
    • define two services to run under my high account (domain account / I have administrative rights on all our machines)
    • restart the services for the changes to apply
    • configured the plugin to use the my elevation (domain account)
    • added three sweeping machines - on these machines I have my domain credentials explicitly in local administrators, in addition to having their granted by a security group.

all exceed the 1st phase of the analysis fails with 'Bad powers or insufficient privileges', although Guided Consolidation is able to correctly report info info CPU and memory. In addition, newspapers report a 'deniedexception' in their path, although I can't work on what goes wrong. All servers are running Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-bit).

I have seen articles noting that the account used for the detection/race services must have domain administrator privileges. Is this true? I have not one cannot ask such access in my environment. I want to exclude explicitly any comments pertaining to open ports, because computers are in the same network segment and are not protected by Firewall (or windows firewall or hardware fw).

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Max

I don't think that you can upgrade one marked as 'useful' to 'correct '.

Basically, show you your own thread under your account and there should be a button on each post on 'mark as correct' or 'mark as useful'... not sure of the exact procedure that I usually tell people, to ask questions.

You can test the process on this post

Anywho, good to see that you are on the path of consolidation.

  • Guided Consolidation and converter plug missing at vSphere5

I just upgraded to vSphere 5 and guided Consolidation and converter plug-in are the two missing as being available.  Have I missed something or that they are no longer be available?

I hope not because I've used both of these a little

    Hello.

You're not missing something, because they are both is no longer available.

These announcements were made the year last in the VMware vSphere 4.1 Release Notes.

The latest version of the stand-alone version of the converter is available to replace the VMware vCenter Converter plugin.

    Good luck!

    Hello

We have already installed vCenter Guided Consolidation service on the vCenter 4.1 server.

However, the guided vCenter Cosolidation plugin is not available in the workstation with VI Client installed.

Is it possible to get it installed?

  • Question about Guide or video guide

HY I am new to the Forum, but not new for research here, I had a T60 and now own a SL510... As my Sl510 came with bluetooth, I took the one off my T60 and installed on the SL510.

Now, I had a few questions, I am running Win 7 Pro, initially the bluetooth was perfectly isntalled and worked, now after a few weeks, it no longer works and when I go to Device Manager I see that it is uninstalled eventhough I installed it.

2nd, I noticed that the SL510 have a 2nd PCI express port inside, the without wire is under the keyboard, so I was wondering what is the use of this 2nd port?

And the 3rd, I remember when I move the bluetooth card from one PC to another, that I had to search and found somewhere in this forum a link to a Guide with videos and other things, where I could look for any brand laptop computer Lenovo and could get the dissambly and the reassemply ob parts, can someone point me to this site please? I need to check something on my SL510, thank you very much for your help.

    Hello mate,

Check if your daughter card is properly connected to your bluetooth problem. Reinstall it maybe.

The second pci express card is normally to connect a WWAN modem.

  • Question of the consolidation

The consolidation wizard actually copy the entire physical server including the data on the hard drive?

The drop in performance is negligible.  The agent creates a snapshot point-in-time volumes the and sends data across the wire to the ESX host and the virtual machine.  If you will be running together for awhile, you will have to re-do the conversion, when you are ready to spend, especially if the data on the server changes frequently.  If it is not the case, you're fine with the converted image.

  • Virtual disk / cliché Consolidation Questions

    Hi all

Guidelines in the Article of the basis of knowledge 1007849 (link), I have a few questions about the Consolidation of VMDK/Snapshot.

First of all, there is no. SNAPSHOTS (or SS files) in the Snapshot Manager or browser (However, I believe that it is because I am committed never completely the prior of snapshots).

As can be seen in the picture, I have 3 flat files:

    File1.VMDK (10 GB)

    FILE1_1.VMDK (35 GB)

    FILE1_2.VMDK (60 GB)

Run the commands (and in the browser), I show that I have 4 files with extensions: vm_x - 00000 x hard-x (where x = 1 or 2) with three original flat files.

As can be seen in the picture, they are:

    File1 - 000001.vmdk (1.4 GB)

    FILE1_1 - 000001.vmdk (7 GB)

    FILE1_2 - 000001.vmdk (28 GB)

    FILE1_2 - 000002.vmdk (132 MB)

    The commands show the files in use are: file1 - 000001.vmdk, FILE1_1 - 000001.vmdk, FILE1_2 - 000002.vmdk

My goal is now to consolidate these four files of x - 00000 x hard with the original flat files (I'm running out of space on my LUN and badly need to reclaim the space used by deltas).

The rest of the Article, I can do that by cloning the LAST delta file (vm_x-x - 00000 x hard) to a temporary logical unit number and the result will be a FLAT file with all the changes of delta AND the original structure. I can then do this for every disc of delta and the result would be 3 dish VMDK, thick well consolidated with changes in delta and the original content to the size of my original housing.

Am I wrong? Or am I missing something?

Any advice/help/advice/suggestions on VMDK/Snapshot Consolidation would be greatly appreciated!

    Tony

    Tony in the morning,

    I agree / 3GB is severed a small fine.

The two should get the same result, but I guess the question should be asked and answered is: are you able to shut down the VM? If the answer is Yes, then or the other option is fine, but I'd probably go with the vmkfstools-i option first. If the requirement is to leave the machine on then I would use the VMware Converter to achieve given the free space you have.

I just had another idea. If you use vCenter, then you can also clone the virtual machine. It would be almost identical using the vmkfstools-i option. Make a clone should be faster to copy them what VMware Converter like all across the disks rather than go on the network. There are the assumptions in this howerver statement generally it should be true. The only problem with it in this way is the hull of the virtual machine will need another name, while the vmkfstools option you can just do handed up new discs of the same shell. Depends on how comfortable you are with the console.

    .

Let us know how you go.

    Kind regards

    Glen

  • Question about VMware Foundation Acceleration Kit

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't get frequent on licenses for the stuff. Ive looked at the PDF licenses and below shows the paragraph that confuses me a little. The Foundation acceleration Kit only allows you to run ESXi?

Ive got 2 sites that I need installation, one with 1 x VC server. 2 x with 2 x cpus esx hosts each and another site running a different copy of VC, 1 host ESX x with 2 x CPus.

What would be the best option?

    +

VMware Infrastructure 3 Foundation acceleration Kit

    +

includes three licenses of VMware Infrastructure 3 Foundation.

It's VMware ESXi, VMware Consolidated Backup,

VMware Update Manager VMware Virtual SMP, VMware

VMware VMFS and VirtualCenter agent. They also include

Server VMware VirtualCenter Foundation, which provides

VMware Guided Consolidation and the ability to manage up to

three hosts Server VMware Infrastructure 3.

Non-it allows you to run ESX or ESXi - the only thing you need is another license server VC since the acceleration kit only comes with one license of VM - Foundation

  • HFM Consolidation during the loading of data

    Hi Experts,

I have a small question on the Consolidation of the FDM to time data load of HFM.

I know THAT FDM is going to pass parameters to the HFM to perform the Consolidation, all these entities available in the list of the VALIDATION ENTITIES to respective location and Validation group.

My Question is, what scenario should he perform the consolidation in the HFM. (Where can I check it)

    1. It is based on the SCENARIO, mentioned in the validation logic in the VALIDATION RULE. (because, I find a difference from the same Point of view to scenario 2)

    If Abs (|) ACTUAL_1, ASSETS, PKI, Custom1, Custom2, Custom3, Custom4, Jolie; REAL ASSETS, PKI, Custom1, Custom2, Custom3, Custom4, |) > 10 then

    RESULT = False

RES. PstrCheckMessage1 = "Difference between scenario 2, please check.

    On the other

    RESULT = True

    End If

    1. For the logic of the above rule, what scenario will be consolidated.

    Regarding

    Kath

You're right, target category for your scenario of HFM.

Active category of FDM is your selected in the bar of FDM POV category. Categories are used to "categorize" the data, such as scenarios. So you can see category FDM as script source.

  • Set the consolidation method

    Hello

I would like to ask questions about the consolidation method. I have the hierarchy as follows:

    1. the company possessed A company B 70%
    2. the company has owned by company C 45%
    3 company D from B 0.2%

In the hierarchy above, B use full Consol, C will use equivalence (only absorb the Net result) and D will use cost (investment calculate only) method. When making this adjustment in HFM, where should I put % for POWN, PCON and PCTRL? HFM will read the configuration method that I have little matter how much % I place in these 3%?

    Appreciate your response.

    Thank you
    -Anna

    Hi Anna,.
HFM knows nothing about consolidation if we configure the applicationsettings to use the logic of consolidation. In this case, if install you a mehthod in the file rules, no code at all, this method rolls not all numbers to the group for entities using this method. Nothing will happen, even intercompany eliminations.

However, if install you the applicationsettings for not using the logic of consolidation, then HFM 'knows' the default method, which will practically roll all accounts using pcon and will also perform the inter-company eliminations. Note that the behavior of this group by default, can be emulated by a piece of code I've seen availble for several consultants.

Now in the case using the custom, consolidation rules that the rules can be written in such a way that they can do special things, to the different accounts, customs or even combinations of them (or points of view as we say). And the author of the rule, determines also what will be the requirements of the system accounts pcon, pown etc. for his method works correctly. Usually, normal people give names that are meaningful to the methods they implement, even if the names tell us anything about what is the system requirements of their method. That's why I insist on the existence of the documentation on the methods.

  • Max guided codification - 500 or 100?

I ran into conflicting information on the maximum number of machines that Guided Consolidation allows you to analyze both. According to the VMWare class book is 500 and I saw this figure in a few other places. But according to the Vsphere 4.0 administration guide, it's 100. Pretty big difference there and I would rather that one is the actual limit.

Correct answer is 100. This plugin can Touchbase a maximum of 99 to 100 or so and this is tested. Above this vCenter server must have enough room for the resources (CPU, network and memory)...

  • Upgrad question, vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1

    Hi all:

This is my first post, and it's really stupid!  HI HI!

I look at my Server vCenter.  In the help about it says: I'm on the #208111 build.  But apparently the update 1 build # is: 208156 build?

When I download the ISO for the full install of update 1, it says I have to remove my vCenter continuous server rather than upgrade offer.  I found the Patch 1 file that says she is replaced by installing already on the server.

    What I am doing wrong?

you are in the correct version for vCenter4 U2.  The other version number you see includes all modules

VMware vCenter Server 4 and modules

Installer of VMware vCenter Server (build 208111), VMware vSphere Client (build 208111), VMware vSphere Host Update Utility, VMware vCenter Update Manager (build 208126), VMware vCenter Converter (build 206188), VMware Guided Consolidation vCenter and VMware vCenter Orchestrator. Available in English, German, Japanese, and Chinese simplified.

  • Port of h.323 using VirtualCenter Consolidation

    Salvation communities,.

I would like to know if anyone knows what h.323 port, we must open inside the firewall to communicate with a demilitarized zone. We open almost the mention of different ports elsewhere...

    Domain TCP/UDP 53

    Kerberos TCP/UDP 88

    UDP 123 times

    UDP 137 NetBIOS-ns

    TCP 139 NetBIOS-ssn

    LDAP TCP/UDP 389

TCP 3268 for Global catalog LDAP

    Communication TCP for DCOM/RPC 135/445

But when we launched an analysis on a computer in the DMZ, VirtualCenter return an error like unable to communicate with the server. I was working with network admin and it says the server inside to try DMZ randomly a port h.323 to communicate with VirtualCenter.

We cannot install an another VirtualCenter inside the DMZ. So you really have to open appropriate ports in order to complete our Consolidation.

    Thanks in advance
