Question of Radeon Upgrade XPS Gen 5

Hello

I am running a Radeon X 1950 Pro in my XPS 5 but think of upgrading to a HD4870 or a HD4850. I don't see any obvious problems of the requirements they ask for, apart from the requirement of power for the HD4870, but can anyone confirm if my system suitable for such an upgrade?  And would I need an upgrade of power for the 4870 or I'll be ok with my 460W?

I am running:

OS: Vista 34 bit

Processor: Pentium 4 3.4Ghz

RAM: 4 GB

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • XPS Gen 5 - compatibility Cpu explained?

Hi all. Well I've been poking around and found no solid information on what my computer can be upgraded to. Because my computer seems to be compatible with the Core 2 Duo. I was wondering if maybe there's even compatible with the Core 2 Quad, being that they have a 755 socket.

Tried to look to the top of my service tag to see the info from Bios A04 and what the hell he adds compatibility but could not find any usable information. I plead therefore here my question now after repeated failure to search for.

    I have a Xps Gen 5

    Motherboard model: 0GC068

Is current processor: Pentium D 830 3.0 ghz

    Thank you

The XPS G5 does not support the Core 2 Duo.

Pentium 4 single core or Pentium D processors only.

  • Strange XPS Gen 5 startup freeze Seagate 256 GB SSD

    Hello:

I managed to finally find some time to upgrade my XPS Gen 5 faithful (but strong) to Windows 7. Major changed components were RAM (6 GB total = 2x2gb + 2 x 1 GB), a new SSD (Seagate 256Go SDSSDHP - 256G - G25) and newly purchased Dell Ultrasharp U2212HM monitor 21.5 ".

Everything seems to start well, except that it is never on the first power up: it still does not start after a long pause on the start screen, freeze temporarily so I can't select Configuration of F2, then finally showing a 'not found' error at the start of disk 0. If I cycle the power button for the start screen freeze or after the error message, there is no problem and the operating system starts normally afterwards (and quickly).

[I never had this problem before, even with the hard drive 250 GB of stock WD, except that change components often cause a delay starting for the first time only.]

I guess that's to be a particular problem with the SSD or the BIOS - workaround is manageable, but very annoying to have to turn on the computer twice to start.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Tony

In the BIOS, your SSD seems properly under SATA port 0? If you start directly in the BIOS then the output, the system starts properly?

This SSD seems SATA 3.0, and I saw problems using SATA 3.0 on a controller SATA 1.0 drives. Sometimes, the solution is to install a controller card.

  • A few questions about the upgrade on Satellite A300-144

Sorry for the typos, English is not my mother tongue.
I want to ask some questions about the upgrade of a300-144.

    * Some info first.*

    CPU: T2370 ([http://ark.intel.com/products/34445/Intel-Pentium-Processor-T2370-1M-Cache-1_73-GHz-533-MHz-FSB]).
    Chipset: GM965 ([http://ark.intel.com/products/29821/Intel-82GM965-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller]).

    * Questions.*

    1. my frequency of laptop memory at 533 MHz, supports 667 MHz memory controller, memory modules can work at 667 MHz. Is - this because CPU FSB 533 MHz frequency and new processor at 667/800 MHz FSB will fix it or it is hardcoded in the BIOS?

2 Intel said that the size of max memory for my chipset is 4 GB (2 x 2 GB), but Toshiba says that only 2 GB (2 x 1 GB), who is right?

3 I know, taken of my CPU is μFCPGA-478 aka socket P, max FSB 800 MHz, max 35 W TDP, so T9500 ([http://ark.intel.com/products/33918/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T9500-6M-Cache-2_60-GHz-800-MHz-FSB]) is a compatible processor or there are some limitations in the BIOS?

The speed of the memory is related on the material. This means that the FSB is responsible for the limitation.
If the FSB would allow support 667 MHz then the memory would also at this speed.

    > 2. Intel says that the size of max memory for my chipset is 4 GB (2 x 2 GB), but Toshiba says that only 2 GB (2 x 1 GB), who is right?
The memory depends on the chipset. So if the chipset supports 4 GB of RAM, you should be capable of this move to 4 GB of RAM

    > 3. I know, my CPU is? FC-PGA-478 aka socket P, max FSB 800 MHz, max 35 W TDP, so T9500 (http://ark.intel.com/products/33918/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T9500-6M-Cache-2_60-GHz-800-MHz-FSB) will be a compatible processor or there are some limitations in the BIOS?

It might be possible that the new processor would be fully supported by the BIOS, but in most cases it should not be a problem if the chipset would support the new processor.
But as far as I know the upgrade of the CPU is not supported by Toshiba or any other manufacturers of portable and its your own risk to run laptop with the new processor.

No, the graphics card can not be upgraded

What you can do, it is memory and the upgrade of the HARD drive. This should be very easy and should cause no serious problems.

    Upgrading CPU is little tricky.

  • Question about the upgrade memory for my Satellite M40-307

Sorry for the newbie question. But if I have 512 MB of memory for the time being, what are my upgrade options?

Do I have to buy pairs of memory? So I can or buy 2 x 1 GB = 2 GB, or 2 x 512 MB = 1 GB + 512 existing. Or can I say just buy a single 512 MB or 1 GB chip?

Since no one wants to answer:
    1. check if your laptop supports Dual Channel Ram (it should be, but just see the manual to be sure)
    2. knowledge of what type of RAM you have. This will add or remove a possibility of upgrade

The thing with Dual Channel is, that you have the best performance if you use 2 RAM of the same type (really of the same type: company, size...)
    you could:
    3. Add a 512 MB of RAM of the same type you have
3 b. buy 2 pieces of new RAM of the same type (1 GB + 1 GB, or 2 + 2 GB) and do not forget that your laptop supports this quantity (once again: manual to check)

You will also find in the manual, if your computer supports DDR or same DDR2 RAM (faster)

If you have lost your manual, you can download it here on the toshiba Web page

    I hope I could help a little.

  • Question about Vista upgrade and using Vista on my laptop

My first post so Hello. I'm in North Ireland and just basically competent so keep this in mind if you answer my question below :)

Need some advice on the Vista program upgrade. I am a resident in the United Kingdom and my laptop is an Equium A100-147. I got got a confirmation online and posted number is + a copy of the receipt of purchase to one address in the Netherlands. Also displayed payment (£16,53) at a different address in the Netherlands.

I want to know is the disc I receive an 'upgrade' disc or a full version with an option of a 'complete installation', but also an upgrade? Also if I do an upgrade or a full install and decide that Vista is not to my likeing running recovery disks provided with the laptop will return its supplied as original state? It would be XP MCE.

Vista will have all the necessary drivers for my laptop hardware work or I'm likely to have to install drivers after upgradeing or Vista installation?

    Thanks in advance... John

For most Windows upgrades are complete windows versions. This means that you can do a clean install. During the new installation the installation program will ask for the old cd and check it. That's all.

Of course, it is possible to return your laptop in the State of origin with the old recovery disks.

  • Want to 700-311: question of video upgrade: envy 700-311

I don't have a problem with my computer at the moment, I just want to avoid a.  I want to improve the video on my computer from the integrated Intel HD Graphics integrated 4600 video, that he arrived with a dedicated card GTX750Ti.  I have already improved the PS to a Bronze of 850W, so power should not be a problem.  I have an available PCIe X 16 slot (Gen 3.0).   I can't find a clear description (or YouTube video) upgrade process, but I think it must be pretty starightforward.   Do I have to (1) disable the existing onboard video (2) close (3) install new video card, (4) reattach connections, (5) lights up, installation drivers (6), (7) get a video signal, (8) declare victory and (9) to order a pizza?  That's what I think I've read, but it is not supposed kill my video device available, install another device, then the up... rear how to fire computer could monitor possibly get a signal?  I'm afraid that if I do this bad I won't be able to get a signal to my monitor, and no video, I have a quite expensive boat anchor.  I really don't want to take it to a tech for what should be a simple installation, but maybe I should.  Prior to that, is there any step by step clear directions for this upgrade?  Thank you very much.

Thanks for the reply Jay fast!  Clear instructions, I can follow with confidence.

  • Satellite 3000 - X 4: Question about RAM upgrade

    Hi all

I'm looking for more information on how to upgrade the RAM for my SATELLITE S3000 - X 4 (120 MB RAM, 14 GB HD I think!). Here's a little history...

This laptop is about 5 years old, and I'm hoping to speed up a bit. I don't want to buy a new computer because she usually serves my needs.

I emptied my hard drive files and unwanted programs. And I ran Jv16 Power Tools to clean the registry and minimize starts the process.

It's always a little slow and if I am considering upgrading the RAM because I think I can do this for about £50. My questions are:

What type of upgrade RAM should I look to buy? (This laptop have 2 RAM "plug-ins" or just one?)
What is the size of RAM upgrade is the maximum an S3000 - X 4 could face?
Could a novice like me to adapt to the style DIY upgrade?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Gabrielle

    Hi Gabrielle

He is old enough. I looked for some info, but unfortunately I n t have not found much. The device can use the 512 MB of RAM, and you can use 2 sticks of memory. I'm not 100% sure but I think you can use the module with tracking number PA3086U - 1. 25 M.

The unit is not known to me but please check the underside. On most units, you can find coverage of memory.

  • Is it worth the upgrade 4th Gen extreme 6th Gen with multi-Express configuration?

I have a 4th gen extreme and 3 airport base express (2nd generation), each set up to expand, all connected to speakers of different sizes for listening to music.

Everything is on a floor, not a big house, 920 square feet.

I recently updated my Comcast service to 250 extreme.  Connected by ethernet, last night and got the 275 - ish down.  Pretty amazing.

I have actually never connect by ethernet, everything is wireless.

I have a recent Mac in the room more far-of-router, when I do everything.  A 3rd generation Apple TV is also in the farthest room.

I got a refurb had 6 extreme Gen this week to try to take advantage of the extreme service 250 (I know that I won't do the same ethernet - connects, but...

I am on the fence about the 250 thing).

Implementation of the 6th gen extreme proved to be impossible - it just would not be put in place and I kept getting "unexplained error', whether on Mac, iphone, or ipad.  All new.

And I'm pretty good with this sorta thing.

So I thought, forget it, I'll return it.  Probably defective.

    My question is:

With the multi-express in place, it is useful to make the new ac-router with "n" 3 express on the network?  Or should I just keep the low extreme, 4th-gen my extreme internet service 250 etc..

    Thank you!

If you want to quickly get wireless, the only improvement will be a direct connection to the AC on 5 GHz router which means close and staff.

The express will get no improvement because they are Wireless-N devices... and are perfectly adapted to the existing EI Gen4.

    My question is:

With the multi-express in place, it is useful to make the new ac-router with "n" 3 express on the network?

    The answer is no...

Unless you can get the router AC in a place that the computer connects to the it's 5 GHz directly... which means the same room or adjoining room, perhaps.

You need to run ethernet (or even EOP adapters are not up to 250mbps) to a location near the Mac.

  • Suggestions and Questions about the upgrade my Hardrive Mac and Ram.

Hi This is my first time asking something in the forums. (At least I think) Well anyway, I got the Macbook Pro Mid 2012 13 "with the retina also runs the OS El captain. I do computer for school and sometimes animation video editing and ive noticed some performance as my projects get bigger and bigger issues. I want to improve my mac, but I'm not very tech savy and don't want to do something useless, so I had a few questions, I wanted to ask you.

Do I need for my hard drive and my Ram?

What effect will the upgrade of my Ram and what effect will be upgrading my hard drive with an SSD?

I saw this SSD online and thought of novice opion that sounds get Id more bang for my buck (link) with her. Is this good? What more to kill? WiIll it still works? Could you suggest some other good affordable options?

My next question if I decide to upgrade my Ram can provide you with some good affordable links to buy of new RAM sticks, is also 8 GB, the best he can do?

My next question I watched a few videos online and by installing the updates level looks really easy and fast. But I use bootcamp (to play games sometimes), and I wanted to know if I save my files on my drive as ive seen people do videos, (something to wipe the drive and put it back in after installing updates) will be I lose my windows 7, I lost the disc to reinstall and he check so I really want to buy a new also do not want to lose the things I put in memory.

From the retina MacBooks you is impossible to pass the ram as it is soldered to the logic board. As with the hard drive, it's just a card ssd and you can't get those anywhere because their hard to find.

  • One last question on the upgrade from my old computer

I bought an old HP P6243W computer

(that's all I can afford on my disability WILL)

I'm looking to upgrade the video card buy buying a low price PCIe Express X 16 video card

I need a little more power video to play diablo 3

    (please forgive my ignorance)

Question 1: A PCIe Express 2.0 X 16 will work in the slot?

Question 2: Video made on the usage of card mother ddr2 memory can the video card, I buy using gddr3 memory?

    * Thanks in advance for any info, you may be able to give *.

    Hello:

Yes, use a PCIe x2.0 card will work on your PC.

However, you must get a fairly conservative, because of the power of 250W your model uses.

My recommendation would be to get a nVidia geForce GT 610, which will be much better than the onboard video, but he only has a maximum power of 29W draw.

    Plug on the map...

    http://www.GeForce.com/hardware/desktop-GPUs/GeForce-gt-610/specifications

And Yes... the GDDR3 memory has no effect on the DDR2 memory.

  • Windows 8 Switchable Graphics Support for AMD Mobility Radeon and 1st Gen Core i5 Intel Graphics

Since I've upgraded to Windows 8 my graphics did not work at all (only the work aside Intel). This is a problem because it seems that my HDMI port is plugged directly into my ATI card and with it disabled I can't play half of my games or make use of my HDMI port. I contacted AMD and have tried all their drivers but nothing has worked for the past 3 months. They said that, because Intel is a competitor, the manufacturer must release these new driver updates to manage the two cards. I couldn't find anything to help me with this and I am planning to switch brands because it has been a frustrating experience for me. In addition, I can not install AMD Catalyst Control Center because for some reason it does not recognize my card. If you guys could help me find a solution to this problem or point me in the right direction would be great. Thank you.

    Hi Matt,

I don't think that HP will develop Windows 8 drivers for your model, but you can try the switchable graphics avaiable to measure on the following link - I would suggest that you read the guide on how to install these drivers correctly.  It is also important to note that the driver signature enforcement is disabled so that these drivers to load, - more details can be found here.
