question re esx 4.1 upgrade 2

Sorry if this has already been discussed.  If Yes please send me the link.

I use update Manager to update my ESX hosts.  Currently the version shows ESX 4.1.0 502767 - does that mean it is updated to 2 upgrade? -A colleague gave me the following ISO - VMware-VIMSetup-all - 4.1.0 - 493063 and told me that I had to use to upgrade to 4.1 upgrade 2.  I looked through these discussions, but it is difficult to know exactly how updates work in the Update Manager.

TIA

ESXi 4.1 Build 502767 corresponds to ESXi 4.1 Update 2, you are up to date with the hosts. (see http://vsphere-land.com/vinfo/release-build-info)

ISO "VMware-VIMSetup-all - 4.1.0 - 493063" is the vCenter Server installation ISO. It's yours if you update Server/Update Manager vCenter to the latest version too. Please find the compatibility matrix for http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php

I'll spend 3.02 ESX ESX 3.5, stop all VMs, but my question is if I will put the host in "maintenance" mode before you stop an upgrade?

whenever you do any type of work on an ESX host, I would say maintenance mode.

  • ESX 3.5 upgrade to VSphere 4, question of SAN.

First time poster long time reader and disgester of all.  Thanks for all the info everyone.

We manage all the IBM HS21XM blades.  We have all our warehouses of VM data on a San and the guests all have the ESX OS on the local blade HARD drive.  On the KB update: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1009039 it says on the step 5 Note ESX Server to physically disconnect the fiber during the upgrade.

Since we are in a blade chassis that will cut all of our ESX host.  So it's kind of bad for us during the opening hours.

My question is is in the chassis and by disabling the good enough to meet this stage port of host level or the fiber must be disconnected from the chassis?

    Thank you. Mike

step 5 is just a security measure to ensure that warehouses data on SAN used be disturbed during the upgrade. It is not required of disconnect\disable SAN LUNS before starting the upgrade.

Compared with 3.5, 4.0 upgrade mechanism is different, SAN data warehouses will not be disturbed in the current method of upgrade.  So far I have strength hear any question saying upgrade disturbed warehouses of data on SAN 4.0 updated.

    Kind regards

  • ESX 3.01 upgrade to ESXi 5.1

    Hello all-

I just wanted to throw it out there to get an idea on how to accomplish what we are trying to do.  We are running ESX 3.01 in our environment.  We currently anticipate on the upgrade to ESXi 5.1 and as part of this upgrade, we will be the purchase of new equipment.

My question is – once I get the new hardware in place and installed, when I turned off my existing ESX 3.x vm and copy them into my new hardware - what will take to make this work?  I know that virtual hardware version should be upgraded (somehow?) and also the vmware tools must be upgraded - for each of the machines.  Other than that, tips, pointers or info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    SB

If your existing virtual machines are hardware version 4 virtual machine, you can just their copy/import/restore/etc in the new vSphere environment 5. You are not required to do anything else to these virtual machines with virtual machine hardware version or the version of VMware Tools. From there, you may test to make sure that everything works as expected with these virtual machines.

When you are ready to update the VMware Tools and hardware of the virtual machine, and then turn off the virtual machine snapshot of the virtual machine, update of the VMware Tools and reboot, stop the virtual machine, update the virtual hardware, test and then delete the snapshots - or you can use Manager Update to greatly simplify this manual process.

There is not a lot of traps with the refurbishment that you speak, because the old environment will continue to be available and virtual machines can be powered on there if necessary.

    Hi all!

No way to upgrade. You must reinstall the host. The host document, reinstall it and configure it again :-)

  • Question of cloning for SSD upgrade on 12 Macbook Pro

Previously, I did an upgrade to SSD on my Macbook Air to 2012 according to the instructions of JetDrive transcend. Basically connection via USB 3 and using Mac OS X to clear (and format) disc utilities new SSD, then restore again SSD and then remove the original 128 GB SSD and insert the new 480 GB SSD.  For about a month and so far without problem.

Now I'm trying to 2012 Macbook upgrade my Pro partner (on 10.11.6).  I got a Crucial SSD MX300 to replace his HARD drive.  Crucial comes with (or recommend) Acronis software.  And a lot of the messages of the forum recommend Carbon Copy Clone.

My question is if I can use the same method for the cloning of the HD as my Macbook Air (just restore disk of Mac OS X utilities)?  This time, I'm upgrading HARD drive and I don't know if something is different.  At the same time, if I got lucky the first time, I don't not ruin Macbook Pro my spouse this time.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can use disk utility to clone your MBP wives, but unlike CCC, it will not clone the recovery and Partition.

  • Questions about Satellite 1115-S103 upgrade

    Hello
There are Toshiba Satellite 1115-S103, configuration Intel Celeron 1500 256 MB 20 GB M6 ATI DVD - ROM 16MB 14.1 "1024 x 768. I want to do the upgrade and I have a few questions:
    1. What more powerful CPU could be placed in the laptop?
    2. What is the largest size of RAM?
    3. What is the largest capacity of the hard drive?
4 could replace the graphics card with a newer version?
    5. an internal Wi - Fi adapter could be placed in the laptop (not to mention that in the PCMCIA slot)?

Looking forward for your reply. Best regards.

    Hello

Don't expect too much! The laptop upgrades are limited and it is not easy or especially not possible to upgrade the laptop parts.
The Sat 1115-103 seems to be a mobile American.

1.) usually the CU upgrade is not possible. Seems that you can only use the Intel Mobile Celeron up to 1,8 GHz

(2.) the RAM can be upgraded up to 512 MB (2 x 256 MB). You can use the SODIMM, DDR PC2100 modules as Kingston KTT3614/256 256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM module

(3.) the laptop came with 20 GB. Am I wrong? In my opinion, you can use the 2.5 ", 9.5 mm hard drives up to 40 GB.

4.) graphics card cannot be replaced. It is fixed on the Board!

5.) I am not 100% sure if the laptop supports a Wlan minPCI card slot but worth case you can use a USB WiFi key to connect the laptop to the Wlan.

  • Question about Diplay driver and upgrade - Satellite 5200 903 RAM

    Hello

I ve got an old book of 5200-903 and I m lovin it. I installed the driver Nvidia Support Toshiba Download Page. But I can´t find any display driver again? I m only using the standard Windows Plug and Play Driver? Has anyone found a driver for the display for best results?

Another question: I want to upgrade my RAM. For now I m using 2 x 256 MB DDR 266 Mhz CL 2.5. What is the maximum that supports the book? A tested person faster DDR RAM? As 333 MHz RAM?

    Thank you for having responded

    > I installed the driver Nvidia Support Toshiba Download Page. But I can´t find any display driver again?

Sorry but I don't understand what's your problem now. On the Toshiba support page you can find the driver NVIDIA V 43.36 for WXP (listed for Satellite 5200 903). Am I wrong? If you have installed this driver for the graphics card must be properly recognized and listed in the Device Manager.

So now, I have to ask you once again: what exactly is the problem with display driver?

    On RAM:
Your laptop can handle with max of 1024 MB. You can use the module 2 x 512 MB. Module of 512 MB compatible a part PA3164U - 1 M 51 number.

Do you know how to reduce noise?

    thx for the answers

Hardware upgrade on laptops is not comparable with the workstations where you can upgrade almost everything. Mainly on laptops, you can improve RAM, WLAN, HARD drive or maybe BT but all that s.

Update graphics card is definitely not possible because the graphics card is part of the motherboard. Update CPU's might be possible, but certainly not recommendable. The construction of any material is designed by technicians and configured to provide optimal use. If optimal use, you understand very good performance but without the possibility to destroy the material. The common problem on mobile computing is heat and how to cool the hardware components.

The best graphics card and CPU using the material temperature is much higher and the result can be permanent running fan or just property damage. If you think about all this stuff, I hope you understand that this type of upgrade can be very risky.

If you need to better and more powerful portable computer the best option is to sell your old and buy newer with the best hardware configuration.

  • Question of HPE-180 t upgrade video card/PSU

I have never updated a video card or a power supply before and am a little worried about this procedure. I have a HPE-180 t and I want to spend the GT 220 GPUS to a GTX 560 Ti.

The thing is that when I open the case, I don't know if there is enough space. I read that the 560 Ti is a large map and takes about 2 connectors on the motherboard. The GT 220 that I look pretty tight on one side, and it is not as big as the 560. Someone has it already done this before update? I don't know if the case of the size vary between models of HP Office.

For food, I get this one:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817139028

Same issue - anyone done this upgrade successfully on a HPE-180 t? If this isn't the case, I have problems with it?

    Other problems, I'd be worried?

    Thank you!

Great, thank you for taking the time to answer.  You are welcome!  I'm happy to help you.

I was just wondering, how did you choose this particular video card? It seems that there is a lot of variety of different manufacturers.  Over the years, I have spent many hours on the forums of enthusiasts/player/overclocking.  From this experience, I came to love graphics cards XFX, BFG, EVGA, Sapphire and PNY in that order.  They are the manufacturers who make very good products and offer good customer Service.  Also, when you pick up any product, I read as many customers as possible.  They give you the straight scoop without any exaggeration of the manufacturer.  Other customers the better.  When I see a product that has more than 200 customers and is rated 4 stars or higher, I won't hesitate to buy it.  Some comments may be pros, but the majority are people like you and me.  I hope that explains my choice.

Also, I noticed that the product dimensions are 9 "x 4,38", which I suppose is just length x width. The "depth" (or width when looking from the rear which is held vertically) is not listed, so that usually not a problem (i.e. it will not conflict with what anyone on either side)?  If the card fits in length and the width and height of the map is not as critical.  Most cases will be enough space.  The length is more critical, however.  I would stay 9 "or less.  Normally, this ensures that the card will fit in the case of medium-sized and allowing good air flow.  A card will be a full case.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.  I'm always happy to help someone to learn about the components of the computer.

  • question the m9515y graphics card upgrade

After a little more than 2 years, the graphics card in my m9515y failed and I am looking to improve it to something in the sense of a GeForce 465 and also upgrade the oem power supply 550 watt or better power supply Ultra.   My concern is the wire (black and white) which extends from the current GeForce 9400 pay-per-view mother connector JSPD1 and is included in this unit by the factory.  I can find no reference as to what this thread is for, and if it will be necessary for the new video card.

Hoping that someone will be able to answer this question for me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Gordon

    Hi Gordon,.

The cable between the card and the motherboard is most likely an SPDIF connection, even if it is not labeled as such.

Are you using or plan for the use of the SPDIF output on the back of your PC?

You can get audio via the HDMI port on the 465 NVIDIA Digital.

The Corsair CX 600 (600 watts) or the CX 500 (500 watt) power should work for your needs well.

This GTX 550 TI is the same performance with the 465, consumes less energy and less expensive.  Some of the 550 GTX s have a differnet output ports configurations so you might need to look a little bit to determine which meets your needs. www.Newegg.com has what need you.

  • Question of blackBerry Smartphones on upgrade Rogers 8310 with OS 4.5

Hello, I used my blackberry Curve 8310 two weeks so far and I like it a lot! Since I have this phone, I spend more time with my family without missing an important email! I also like its automatic crash when inserting it in the case of protection. I love this phone!

I heard that I can upgrade its system to be OS 4.5 and yes I checked here page software blackberry and OS 4.5 is available for Rogers 8310. But I want to clarify something important before the upgrade.

My phone came with an OS 4.2, it was a multilingual version, but it doesn't have a Chinese language support. I need to read the emails in Chinses all the time. Luckily I found an OS 4.2 Chinese version to the download page for Rogers 8310 on blackberry software, and I installed it on my phone. It works perfectly.

But for the 4.5 OS, there is only one version available for rogers 8310 blackberry Web multilingual. I called Rogers, technical support, they told me that this OS 4.5 lack of Chinese language.

However, there is a 4.5 OS on the blackberry software download page, Chinese language version available, but for the society of Hong Kong CSL. My question is, if I install this Chinese version of Hong Kong CSL, after installation, will my landline (phone call, emails...) work with Rogers services?

    Thank you very much!

Hi and welcome to the forums!

You can use the software to another provider. As long as it is specific to the device.

Once you have downloaded and installed the OS on your PC device,

delete the vendor.xml file. The file is installed in the following directory.

    c:\program files\common search in motion\apploader\

Let us know how it goes!

  • ESX 4 confussion upgrade

    Hello all;

Well as the title says, I'm really confused.

I got vCenter 5.1 for 3 guests.  1 host has been implemented with VMware ESX4.1, build the 1363503.  I'm finally upgrading of the host, but I do research & find contradictory stories then maybe someone can help?

On a different topic about DCUI, another Member pointed out that you can not upgrade, it had to be a new facility that is NOT an option because the guests are sharepoint, sql, web servers, etc..

You can connect to the Service Console but keep in mind there is no way to do an in place upgrade from ESX to ESXi -either 4 or 5 - it has to be a fresh install -

But if I google the topic, I find several results with:

Anyone can shed some light on this discussion?  I can't afford to lose all the guests for a new installation is not an option but I need to upgrade to 5.1.

    Thanks in advance!

    You know I'm wrong - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-55-upgrade-guide.pdf, Page 152

    Supported on ESXi 5.5 upgrades

You can upgrade an ESXi 5.0.x and 5.1.x host directly ESXi ESXi 5.5 and in most cases, you can migrate a

ESX 4.x or upgrade an ESXi 4.x host directly to ESXi 5.5.

The details and the level of support for an upgrade or migration to version 4.x, ESX and ESXi hosts and

version 5.0.x and 5.1.x ESXi hosts to ESXi 5.5 depend on the host to be upgraded and the upgrade method

    you are using.

  • Adding more than one host ESX and the upgrade at the same time.  What is the order of preference of the operations here?

We are budgeting for more licenses and hardware for 2014 and want to do immediately in January.  I am trying to decide what is the best order of operations for adding two vmware hosts additional to our current installation of vsphere and also upgrade our vsphere / esx 4.1 u3 for the latest and best.

We have 3 Dell PowerEdge R710 running ESX 4.1 U3.  In this vmware cluster, there is a vcenter server 4.1 U3 virtual machine handle this.  The three servers are about 90% memory used so we add 2 additional servers.  Probably the Dell PowerEdge r.620 since we get up 2 in the space of a 710.  Storage is on a san EMC NX4 NFS which will become too but not yet, let's just deal with the vmware part.

When adding additional r.620 2, should I install ESX 4.1 on them and join them to the existing cluster and THEN pass vcenter and each one esx?  I ask precisely because 90% of use on 3 current servers, I need 2 other servers to support the update operations take place.  They would be able to repel vmotioned vm while each host receives an upgrade at the same time.

So which is the best way to go about adding of the hosts and the upgrade?  Would I add as 4.1, then they would be available as targets vmotion and so I have room to start the hosts one upgrade at a time?

If I update vcenter to the latest version, it is comparable backwards and can manage the 4.1 hosts, but also hosts 5.x?  I guess version 5.5 is the last one I would get from VMWare?  It is right of ESXi, then, how is this ESX ESXi 5.5 4.1 upgrade?  How much storage space do I need for ESXi 5.5, as I'm dechatoiement out of these r.620 Dell and need to know what hard drive to put in.

The steps that you must follow

    -Updated vCenter Server

-Upgrade of the ESX hosts (because we do a updating of the material we will install 5.5 on our new guests and add them to the cluster and then dismantle our existing)

    -Upgrade VMWare tools

    -Update data warehouses

ESXi 5.5 has these storage requirements:

    • Installing ESXi 5.5 requires a boot device is at least 1 GB in size. When booting from a local disk or SAN/LUN iSCSI, a 5.2 GB drive is necessary to allow for the creation of the VMFS volume and a scratch 4 GB partition on the boot device. If a smaller drive or logical unit number is used, the installation program attempts to allocate a region scratching on a separate local disk. If a local drive is not found, the scratch partition (/ scratch) is located on the disk virtual ESXi host, linked to the/tmp/scratch. You can reconfigure /scratch to use another drive or logical unit number. For best performance and memory optimization, VMware recommends that you leave no /scratch on the ESXi host ramdisk.
    • To reconfigure / scratch, see Configure the Scratch Partition of vSphere Client vSphere Installation and Installation Guide.
    • Because of the sensitivity of the I/O devices, USB and SD, the installation program does not create a partition scratch on these devices. Therefore, there is no tangible benefits to the use of the great features of USB/SD that ESXi uses only the first 1 GB. When installing on USB or SD, tent Setup devices to allocate a region scratching on a local disk or the data store. If no disk is local or data store, /scratch is placed on the virtual disk. You must reconfigure /scratch to use a persistent data store after the installation.
    • In Auto deploy facilities, Setup attempts to allocate a region scratching on a local disk or the data store. If no local disk or data store is found /scratch is placed on the virtual disk. You must reconfigure /scratch to use a persistent data store after the installation.
    • For environments that start from a San or use Auto Deploy, it is not necessary to assign a separate logical unit number for each ESXi host. You can co-locate areas scrape for several hosts ESXi on a single LUN. The number of hosts assigned to a single LUN must balance the size of the LUN and behavior I/O virtual machines.
