R61 R500 keyboard

Does anyone know if the old R61 keyboard can be installed on the new R500? I want to replace it because this keyboard has a lot of flex. I read that the keyboard works on the T500 but I could not find if the T500 and the R500 use the same. I also read that lenovo in the USA replaces keyboards for free, but I asked the service the customer in my country (Croatia) and they told me that I have to pay myself for the keyboard. Why is this?

Well, Lenovo does not officially provide keyboards replacement for T400/500 and other "affected" models, but you have to go through certain channels on this forum to make...

But to answer your question: Yes, the R61 keyboard will work in a R400/500.

I hope this helps.

    I have a Portege R500-124

I use it to dock in the office and the lid is closed, so I need to enter a password for DriveCrypt and generally control the boot/BIOS from a USB keyboard. But no matter what I set the setting that is inherited from the USB in the BIOS, the USB keyboard does not work. I tried the keyboard connected directly to the R500 when undocked and it's all the same. I also tried BIOS 1.6 and that's all the same.

USB keys are working and I can boot from them, but no work of measures (for example, F12 to choose the BOOT device) keyboard - the R500 doesn't seem to have the functional USB keyboard support until an operating system (Windows or Linux) has started.

    Any ideas?

I can't confirm this, but I'm afraid you're right about that.

  • How do I replace the keyboard on a Portégé R500/R600

    Hello

I would like to replace my keyboard, I'll buy a new keyboard soon. I did it without fault with several laptops before, but for the R500/R600 is comletely unclear how throw the old one out properly.

Y at - it none with respect to (except on the side) or is it simply "lift it out?

    THX!

    Hello

I m not very good if the removal of the Portege R500 keyboard is easy.
As far as I know it s more complicated as on other series of laptops and in this case I recommend you contact the ASP in your country for assistance.

All I know is the keyboard adheres to the insulation and the two parties stuck on the medium frame with double-sided tapes.

  • Portege R500 - replacement of the keyboard - success

After buying a new keyboard for the R500 on EBay about a year ago, I finally blew the courage to replace a badly scratched by a new keyboard. The reason I've waited? I was worried about how to get out the old keyboard (it is locked down to the chassis, and it was obvious that I have would hurt one during the withdrawal.

There is a nice write-up general on how to disassemble a R500 here:
    http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Portege-R500/disassemble-laptop-remove-hard-drive.htm

The description above is not to discuss the keyboard however, so here's some additional information and tips:

    * Read this whole procedure before you start - it's simple, but not for the faint of heart.

    * Shut down, unplug the power, remove the battery.

    * Make sure that you have the correct keyboard for your model. The US keyboard is p/n G83C000903US for example. One I removed was a Rev 1 and a new one, I had a Rev 2 (don't know the difference - they look identical). They can get as low as $40-mais check the part number before you buy.

    * The keyboard connector is located under the computer, and so you will have to take off from the bottom, carefully following the instructions in the link above.

A couple of notes: (a) the cable Ribbon PCMCIA connector must be opened to disconnect the cable, as this is the only thing that prevents you from removing the bottom of the computer. You can easily do so through access memory on the back door, but BE careful not to damage the cable lock. It works by switch to the top the little plastic lever that is held in place by small pieces of plastic on the sides of the connector that flex * a little *. Be gentle with this connector. When you put it back later-connector, if you placed the cable all the way into the connector, you can lock with only slight pressure down on the connector, and it will snap into place.

    (b) there are other types of cable Ribbon connectors use too. For example, to unlock the keyboard connector, now visible also on the bottom of the deck, slide both ends of the connector in the direction where the cable plugs in. They are snug and will only move about 1/4 ", be gentle but firm.

    (c) the two tiny connectors blocks free access to the water of the keyboard do not have locks on them. We're a band with only a few drivers, and one is a red and white power connector. Just pull out them. All the other connectors, you will probably miss through requires unlocking, so be careful!

_Now back to the keyboard: _

Once you have managed to disconnect his cable on the bottom, turn the laptop and start to remove the keyboard on the edges. It is supported by many small pieces of sticky tape, 2 faces, and that's it. As the base of the keyboard is made of aluminum, it is likely that you will distort the keyboard a bit as release you it, even though it may be downplayed maybe using a tool like a rule or something plastic and pry with it. Take care of not to damage the connector of the Ribbon and try to ignore these scary cracking sounds that identify each section!

Once you have turned it off, you must remove any excess tape before starting point and again put a bunch of small pieces of new, good quality 2-sided tape (such as 3 m). No need to use anything stronger or thicker - just put a bunch of parts everywhere on the base, especially near the edges and the space key.

Now, finally, turn the keyboard in position, making sure that you screw the connector back Ribbon through to the correct place. Turn the laptop over and re - insert and lock the Ribbon connector (make sure that it is directly and fully forward lock connector). All other connectors back in too. Then come back and push down hard on all sections.

Re-assembling, taking care to put the 4 mm and 6 mm screws in the right places and a tiny on the side.

Cross your fingers and turn it on!

    Good luck!

    Thank mate for this review.
Generally the replacement of keyboard is not really complicated and someone with small technician skills should be able to replace it

  • How can I change the keyboard on Portege R500?

    Hello everyone,

    I get a Toshiba - 10J Portege R500, with the QWERTY keyboard.
I want to change it with the QWERTY keyboard, because I usually use the French.

But I don't know on the net the explanation or detail to achieve this.
Someone get some photos or some tips to change the keyboard on this laptop.

    Thank you

Do you want really to replace by yourself and lose the warranty?
The Portégé R500 is a portable large company and I think that it s not the cheaper one.

In your case, I would not risk losing the warranty.
So ask the Toshiba service provider in your country for a keyboard layout AZERY-compatible and for replacement.

I think that it s safe.

  • Can Portege R500 - I use the Fn + F5 on the keyboard?

On the laptop keyboard, you can use Fn + F5 to switch the video output to the screen of the laptop to one to connect to the outside.
Is there a button that you can use with a USB keyboard connected to the laptop which would have the same effect as Fn + F5?

We have a problem with one of our Portege R500.
When the laptop is docked in the port replicator, we have a desktop extended on two screens - a 22 "on DVI and a 17" on VGA screen.
When the user takes the laptop away and uses that off the port replicator, the display returns to the screen on the screen of the laptop so this means what they re - anchor their laptop in the port replicator, they have no display on a screen.

The work around is to open the laptop, press Fn + F5, close the laptop, connect and set the view registered software intel.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you
    Steven

    Hello

Message describe you exactly how the switch of the display function.
    Everything is OK.

If you ask for FN + F5 function on the external keyboard so I must say that, as much as I know this FN feature is not available if the external keyboard does not support the FN keys.

But you can also view the Mobile Extension of Toshiba (if you are using Win XP).
In Mobile Extension-> display tab service change, you can activate the display changes service and could check how the display changes after the connection and disconnection of the R500.

  • Differences in keyboards: R60 R61 vs?

    Hello

    I'm looking for a replacement for a TP R60 (model 9462) keyboard.

According to the next page, there are two distinct groups of keyboard FRU for R6x series: one for models R60, R60e and R61i - top table, from FRU "39" t and the other for R61 and R61i models - the bottom table with beginning of FRU with 42 "t".

    http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/MIGR-64342.html

Because the two groups fits the R61i I wonder what could be the difference between the two groups and why only the R61i is listed as compatible with both groups.

In other words, is there anything in the prevention of the use of a keyboard of 42 "t" in a (model 9462) R60?

    Thank you

    Welcome to the forum!

The keyboards are the same in the respect that either will fit your machine very well.

    I hope this helps.

  • geekbench64 vs geekbench32 results for upgrade processors r61 and r500

    Hello

on the point to upgrade my R61i T2330 to T7700 (given as the best bet on most of the discussions) and Win7-64; When you check the scores of benchmark on the net I see that the Geekbench64 gives the T2330 better while Geekbench32 gives the opposite (see image). Any idea on how to do this?

(seen the same thing on the r500 T5870 vs. T9300 processor)

    Thank you

AFAIK the T7700 is much faster. Look at the specifications, not points of reference.

    Hello
can someone tell me what the size of the connector must be on the Portege A600-120 keyboard?

My keyboard failed last week and I ordered a new one that was supposed to be compatible with A600 but the connector was too broad.

Mine is a thin flat 15mm wide ribbon.

Keyboard serial number is G8C000903EN, but a Google serach watch is the keyboard for the R500...

    Hello

As far as I know the keyboard cable is connected to the CN3230 on the motherboard.
    The CN3230 is a dish * 30pin * I / F connector

  • Portege R500 - after what ODD hardware upgrade will not read

Recently, I bought a vintage 2008 Toshiba R500-11Z laptop ultraportable. He needed a new keyboard, because most of the keys are dead, so I bought a new replacement (exact same keyboard, an eBay seller). I also decided to give a new breath of life by installing a SSD drive. The old keyboard was attached to the frame with some sort of sticky back plastic, which is not reusable, so for the new keyboard, I used a strong adhesive tape double-sided. Before you screw the plastic rear landing gear I installed Windows 7, with the loosely adapted landing gear up. Installation of Windows is complete and everything seemed fine. After screwing in the landing gear, I discovered that optics player his original "open-top" mat * a DVD-RAM UJ - 844-S would not read disks. He just made a noise 3 times but does not spin then upward as it normally would. Drive is visible in Explorer solutions and Device Manager.

After unscrewing the undercarriage, the relocation of the optical drive and rescrewing several times, I was not able to get the optical drive to play all discs. What I created is that the disc must be catching on the ceiling, thus signalling the reader to turns don't not upward; leaving the screws each side of the lander was allowed to create a gap, so there is more room between the optical drive and the ceiling of the laptop. Disks will then turn upward and Windows AutoPlay will open to them. What I can't work, it's what has changed in regard to the way in which the drive is mounted and its position relative to the ceiling above him. Or if the reader is now trying to turn a corner. There are two blocking screws that hold the drive in place, so that the reader must be at the same place its always been.

I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before, and if there is an easy solution. According to me, I hit a wall of bricks on this one!

    Thanks in advance.

Just to say, after a lot of head scratching, I worked on the problem. I had made a mistake by attaching the clamp metal Assembly at the rear of the optical drive.

I had screwed the clip outside the Orange connector when he had to be inside (between the optical drive and the orange connector). It seems that it must have pushed the player to place just enough to prevent it from functioning properly.

  • Portege R500 - question of Port Replicator

I just bought a PA3603U-1PRP (mainly) to connect an external monitor, a keyboard and mouse wireless to my Portege R-500.
Once attached to the port replicator (after startup) the HARD drive password prompt appears on the external monitor.

However, until I get the password for HARD drive on the laptop the wireless keyboard keyboard is frozen (can not enter anything).

Once I get the password for HARD drive on the laptop itself the external monitor, keyboard, and mouse work fine.

Is there a setting/reason when the port replicator is attached to the laptop that I can not enter the password HARD drive on the wireless keyboard?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

What is the wireless dongle attached to the laptop or the rep of port?

Try updating the BIOS R500 and the display driver. Also try reinstalling the driver of the Extensions of the Mobile or Toshiba Value Package added.

  • Re: Where is the SSD in R500?

    Hello

My R500 with 64 GB SSD does not start after the start of "Toshiba" screen I want to check if the SSD is correctly connected but I can't find where is the real SSD! I removed the bottom cover and the Ribbon of the PCMCIA connector but have never worked with a lappie using SSD. I don't know what I'm looking for.

Can anyone help? A screenshot or some sort of picture would be useful as well.

    Thank you.

    Hello!

As far as I know, the HARD disc is placed on the lower side on most laptops. Therefore, you must remove the cover of the HARD drive which is set by one or two screws.

On some laptops, but it is not so easy to exchange the HARD drive. Therefore, you must remove the keyboard or full low side. It's a little tricky and you must also remove many screws.
In my opinion the best way is that you ask a technician for help laptop.

In addition, the HARD drive is recognized in the BIOS?

    Good bye

  • Portege R500 - start of fingerprinting release

    Greetings.

I have a problem with my Porteg R500 with HARD drive. I activated the "Single Sign on" in order to use my fingerprint only once a boot, the heading "Power Pre-os by fingerprints" (TrueSite Access Manager software).
When I turn on my laptop, after the BIOS check, I wonder to slide my finger on the sensor. I do, but the system hangs upward, with the screenshot of software TrueSite still. No way to use the keyboard (without CTRL-ALT-DEL allowed; if you press CAPS LOCK, SHIFT, there no led lights, etc.), and he remains hung up that I've shut it down by holding the power button.

Anyone know what's the problem? My BIOS firmware is updated (version 1.60)

    Thank you.

    Hello

Has this issue been published since the beginning? I mean from day of purchase?

In my view the OS and Access Manager software TrueSite is confused upward.
Who knows why, but I think you have to use your Toshiba recovery disc and put the laptop to the factory setting.
Then update the AuthenTec fingerprint software.

Then, you can follow with the configuration of the fingerprint as described in the help of AuthenTec.

I think you should check this!

  • Module 3G on Portege R500 with WinXP

    Hello

I am stuggling with a R500, equipped of the 3G module, on which I have installed XP SP2 from scratch: I downloaded the Vista drivers for the 3 G module, which seem to settle fine and then installed the SW. MobiLink but when I run it, the SIM card is seen very well, but then I get "The Radio is off", so this is not...
    Problem drivers?

    Any idea?
Another strange thing is that the wireless keyboard shortcut does not work.
    Thank you

HM, it's really strange that the doesn´t wireless keyboard shortcut works...

Have you tried the "FN + F8" key combination? Usually, it is the combination of keys to activate the 3G communication. Please try if not already done.

Comments would be appreciated since your machine is really new and it would be interesting if it works. If you have installed the SIM card properly, it should work!

    Welcome them
