  Hi all

  I'm trying to find what, if any, vmdk size limit is on vmware server 2. The situation is this: we create a virtual machine on an ESX4 computer and import it on vmware Server on Win2k3. I know this isn't a good idea, but it's only for the proof of concept and no production at the moment, ultimate goal should we to a machine in ESX ESX. Now, the reason why I need to figure out what size max vmdk, is that I need a vmdk ~1.5TB. Server documentation mentions a locally created max size of ~ 1 TB, but I can't find any mention of moving a virtual machine server and any restriction of file size it. The 3 2 k machine will be sufficient space via a mounted network drive (assuming that the virtual machine files can live on a Windows network share, but what I saw during the search around I think this part is possible). Yet once, isn't ideal, but it's a game completely temporary.

  The size on the last workstation limit is 950 GB - as much as I know it's the same thing with VMserver.

  Although it is possible to create more great VMDK seem not to be unstable - at least that is my experience during the 2 TB VMDK test in a 2003 VM

  I wouldn't use VMDK more than 950 GB in production

  Yes the manual does sometimes not completely meaningless. What they in fact at p. 3, is it may take up to 8 GB (4 + 4), but it was sold only with up to 6 GB (4 + 2). It can actually take up to 8 GB 2 x 4 gig modules. You need the DDR3-1333 SO-DIMM

  I'm not sure about 16 GB, but if you read the whole carefully thread you will find several confirmations of the members and moderators on this Forum than 8 GB really works without problem in x120e. When people have problems, it's because of some brands of RAM of low-end manufacturers or a problem with their system map. In this same thread, you will find many specific manufacturers of 4 GB of DDR3 RAM of the recommendations that have been confirmed to work gently to bring the x120e up to 8 GB. Use one of the recommended brands and specific model numbers mentioned and you will be OK.

  Make sure you have Windows 7 64-bit installed to access all of the 8 GB, Windows 7 32 bit can recognize more than 3 GB of RAM.

  First, take a look at your instance variables in your process. Determine if some could be changed to be separated from the instance variables. Once the class of an instance variable passes from "Normal" to "Separated", it is not included in the calculation of instance size.

  I presume that the A40 supports an IDE HDD ATA-5 controller.
  In this case the 120 GB is the max of the LBA 28 bit

  But in your case I would first test an 80 GB or 120 GB HARD drive.

  1333 mhz SODIMM DDR3 is what the X201t use (although 1066 mhz also works). Corsair, avoid any brand should be correct.

  I did experiment with two 4 GB Kingston bars KVR1333D3S9 / 4G. When the modules have been installed (8 GB) laptop does not work - only power is on black screen...

  I've tried every combination of 4 modules and they have worked. So my result of max RAM installed is 6 GB.

  According to dv7 Maintenance and Service of Guide (this one dated September 2009), you should be able to install up to and including 8 GB of RAM in the computer.

  See section 1-1 and then 3-4, 3-16 and 4-17 respectively.
