RAW or JPEG?

What is better when taking pictures? He put on images RAW or JPEG of L? I've been using setting L (the best), but I see a lot of photographers like to take RAW images. I noticed that RAW uses more memory on my card too.

Which do you prefer and why? I'm still learning...

Thank you!

I started using JPG, but once I had a little practice in the use of Litroom I started shooting RAW + JPG.  I did for only a little while before I realized taking 2 pictures of everything was fills my cards two times faster and it fills the buffer in my camera and limiting the number of shots I could have burst.  I then went to just RAW.

Some of the guys on turned here at the time of the film and probably developed a habit of thinking more carefully before that they don't push that I do sometimes.  In my opinion, no matter how much I try, I can't avoid mistakes, including bad white balance and imperfect exposure.  These two things are much easier to correct if you shot a RAW image.  White balance in particular highlights the benefits of shooting RAW, as you can fix every time no matter how far you shot, while in JPG format, you really exceed a limit to what extent and how well you can twist.

You also have a better time, work with RAW files in virtually all post processing including noise reduction, vibration, sharpness, contrast, etc...

  • Photos, convert and replacement RAW to JPEG files

    Hello!

I've been googling and looking for forums of Apple, and I've not found a way to do it again. I'm not sure that it is still possible.

I have a MacBook pro with a nice little SSD. Take RAW photos is gourmet area, and many of them lying around. Is there a way to replace the RAW with a JPEG photo-generated file to save space?

I thought to export to JPEG, removing the RAWs and import JPEG files, but then I will lose the album information they contain.

Is there a way to transform the RAWs in JPEG, then delete the RAWs to save space? Or is it easier to simply delete?

Any response would be highly appreciated!

Export and re-import are the only way to replace the originals.

And it takes if ensure that the original RAW have been deleted from your library and iCloud, before you reimport the JPEGs or Photos will be STINKING RAW format. At least, this happened to me several times.

You could try to export and import after assigning the name of the album as a keyword. Each album individiually, export

According to reimport the photos create a form of album pictures of the last Import. You can aalso use the albumname keyword to search for them.

When all goes well, remove the keyword, you no longer need.

  • See RAW and JPEG in two separate photos?

    Hello

Understand that the Photos automatically stacks RAW + JPEG as a photo. Wondering if you guys have found a way of:

1 see separate RAW and JPEG in individual photos?

    2. If this is not possible, is there a way to set default pictures to show the RAW version as photo thumbnail/principal for each fireplace?

Currently trying to find a way to effectively create a workflow involving Photos + Lightroom (raw changes), as well as JPEG/RAW files

    Thank you!

You can do this by selecting the photo stacked and then enter the command ⌘D to duplicate it.  You will see then two separate versions of the same photo.  Open the first version in edit mode and use the command "Image > use RAW original title" to use the RAW file as the original image file, then select the second version and in edit mode and use the command "Image > use JPEG as the original" to use the JPEGfile as the original image file.

You can now see the two versions of the image separately in the browser.  Duplication will only duplicate previews, not the original images. But you can now edit the RAW and JPEG format separately.

There is no option in the user interface of the default RAW version.

  • RAW to jpeg in photos

I downloaded my files of raw (NEF) in pictures. I am aware that I can change the files in JPEG format by the following--> export file. However, it stores jpeg files in a folder outside Photos. Is it possible to modify the raw to JPEG files and have them saved in the Photos?

    NO.

You can export and then import the JPEG format in order to have the two in pictures

  • RAW and JPEG shooting - how to reach?

Hi all - I want to shoot in RAW & JPEG tomorrow for an event. I'm sort of a newbie to this, help a friend at the last minute.

I don't have the original software provided with my Rebel T3 (that I read that I would need access to the RAW files).

    So I have 2 questions:

    (1) if I shoot in RAW and JPEG mode, I'll be able to access the correct JPEG files right now?

    (2) is there anywhere I can download free software to be able to access the RAW files then? Or is the software available for purchase as a replacement if you lost yours?

Digital Photo Professional is the free software which provides Canon. You can download the site somewhere.

RAW + JPG mode does let you see that the jpg immediately using software you already have on your computer.

This combo is a good idea since you don't know yet how to deal with RAW files and they seem very dull until you their punch up with some sharpness, contrast, color, etc. I'm not at all familiar with the DPP software.

2 pictures of each shot shooting into space memory fast burns. Take an extra memory card.

  • Cannot display raw or jpeg files taken on a new Nikon D7200

I have questions not being not able to view my raw or jpeg files using lightroom what photos were taken on my new SLR digital of Nikon D7200.  I also have the Nikon D7000 and D3000 and can see raw and jpeg files without any problem.  I can open the files D7200 Microsoft photo look an software, but not Photoshop and Lightroom.  Don't know how to reinstall the software Nikon D7200 if it would help.

Nikon said, the problem is with the Software Photoshop and Lightroom, but it's true, why the other cameras files work fine.

    Can you help me?

    Todd M. Galbrecht

You need Lightroom 6.0 or Lightroom CC 2015 at least to open the D7200 raw files. If you are using an older version of Lightroom, you can use the DNG format free version converter 9.0 or newer to create copies DNG that you can use with your old version of Lightroom.

  • Import into LR CC problem when recording RAW and JPEG image camera

I have my unit set up to record the RAW and JPEG formats for each image, but when I import it imports only RAW files.  However, if I take just the RAW or JPEG only it is important as I shoot very well.  I can go to the card and recover JPG files and manually copy them to the directory and then go and import them into LR, but even then, when I'm in the folder they are in they do not appear, but when I go into the parent folder they show.  When the camera creates the FIRST and JPEG files, it gives them exactly the same name except for the extension which indicates if it's RAW format or the. JPG.   I have double and triple checked and the. JPG file is located in the same directory as the RAW file.  When I import the photos I have change the name for a custom name, so when I copy and past the. JPG files in the folder plus the suffix of the file, the file name is also different. How can I solve this problem?

    Hi BullRhino,

Its setting, you need to activate in Lightroom.

Open Lightroom > go to Lightroom preferences > general tab > check the option "Separate processing Jpeg in a file" > restart Lightroom.

    See the screenshot below

Let us know if that helps.

  • RAW and JPEG on the disk, only import RAW files?

I shot some photos this morning, and the camera is set up to generate a RAW and JPEG file (if it's a difference, the camera is a Panasonic Lumix GX1). I copied all the files from the SD card to a folder on an external HARD drive and then tried to import into Lightroom.

In the import dialog box, the only files he showed me import were the RA2 (Panasonic RAW) files, not JPEG files. My first thought was that he decided my name do not import duplicates - but the file names are the same, but extensions are different and the file sizes are different. Why LR would consider that these are duplicates?

Any thoughts on how to get my RAW and JPEG imported?

    Hello

    Greetings!

Yes, there is a setting in the preferences.

    Open Lightroom

Click on edit-> preferences-> Genaral or Lightroom (Windows)-> preferences-> General (MAC)

Check the box below and click ok and relaunch lightroom.

    Now import and check.

  • Why Lightroom5's copy of the RAW and Jpeg formats files in the destination folder?

    Hi all Lightroom experts.

I want to copy the RAW files of my SD dsra on my hard drive Drobo. And every time I did that Lightroom has copied BOTH raw and jpeg files

How to load Lightroom to copy only the RAW files?

Just a little disgress, actually the same problem happens in Adobe Bridge despite me by selecting only the RAW files to copy, but it always copied both!

    Any tips?

    Thank you

You can tell Lightroom to qualify alongside jpg FIRST separate photos, or treat the JPG as a file by following the instructions here:

Lightroom help | Set import preferences

If the JPG file is a sidecar, the JPG is always imported but is not displayed in your library module.

If you don't want to import the jpg files, you will need to select the RAWs, but not the jpgs in the dialog box import; or import them all and then delete the jpgs of Lightroom and your hard drive (easier, but takes a little longer). or don't shoot RAW + JPG

  • Raw and jpeg in Lightroom 5 Fuji

This is probably a dumb question with an easy answer, but I am shooting Raw and Jpeg on my Fuji XPro-1 and treatment by LightRoom 5. Most of the time the jpeg gives me everything I need, but sometimes I need the flexibility of a raw, so the jpeg/raw file. I thought that LightRoom would show both me and give me the choice, but when I go to import only RAW format files see the place. Is it possible to access the jpeg or raw when importing?

    Fuji jpeg/raw with L

In the Lightroom preferences, there is an option to process JPEG images next to raw in the form of separate images files. Then you should check this option (that is, make it active) Lightroom will import JPEG format so much raw images, and they will be next to each other.

  • saving a raw to JPEG file

When I save a file as a jpeg of high quality raw, I lose a lot of information, and the image becomes much smaller when reopened. How to prevent this?

The actual size of the file in megabytes cannot be a criterion for the quality of the image. JPEG compression works differently on each image according to the content of the image. Some images compress much more than others. When you say that the JPEG is smaller, could you share the actual pixels of the raw and JPEG images dimensions. What do you use to create your JPEGs?

Just another comment. It seems to me that it would be extremely difficult to create a 50 MB JPEG image. It would be absolutely huge in size. I assumed that the site you are using allows loading of formats other than JPEG files if they allow files that large.

  • Bridges, in starting to copy files from Adobe Camera RAW to jpeg or tif, error "the file cannot be created" - can all someone please advise? No Tech phone today?

    To all

In Bridge, in starting to copy files from Adobe Camera RAW to jpeg or tif, error "the file cannot be created" - can all someone please advise? (No phone Tech Saturday?)

Thanks for the quick responses today from anyone in the community,

    -Mark, Portland Oregon

Please provide details: you are not trying to change the file type by changing just the extension, are you?  That won't work of course,

Either you try to run some type of script?

To change a file type, you have TO open the file in Photoshop and do save as.  That can be automated.

  • I got lightroom for about a month and are difficult to import. I was not able to use it at all. I updated today to 5.5 and I can not always import the Raw or Jpeg photos. Why?

Why can't I import photos? RAW or Jpeg? I know that I have a learning curve steep in front of me since I'm used to Photoshop, but seriously, the first step of the import does not work and I get an error message every time. I've had about. And why can I not find a few stinky to communicate directly with adobe?

I had the same problem. And everything that I needed to change the file to import. Follow the instructions here by b_gossweiler third comment to last. Try and see if it works.
