  Yes, you can use the same key, but make sure that the installation is performed only once and a 32-bit parallel installation with the same key on other computer should not exist.
  You must perform a clean installation only and upgrade/downgrade cross-architecture (32-bit to 64-bit or vice versa) is not supported.

  Hi gulabsher,

  You don't need a different product key for re - activate Vista or it after a re-installation.  The original supplied with the software should do just fine.  However, it is possible that the automated process will not recognize your original valid product key because he thinks that it is already used (and it is from their point of view - on your own computer).

  If the automated process fails, use the manual method to activate Vista using the correct product key which accompanies the software.  Remember, if it's an OEM license, it can only be used on the same computer, on which it was originally installed and if a retail license, it can be installed on any computer capable of managing this version of Vista, but only on one computer at a time.

  To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country
  and click Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation and it is only installed on this PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista (or explain why there is a problem if they do not).

  My laptop came originally installed with Microsoft XP. A year ago I bought an 'Upgrade' Windows Vista disc to my computer instead. I've updated, everything was fine and then a month ago windows could no longer work. I could not reinstall Vista, because I only had the upgrade version, and I don't have XP.

  I was able to install Vista without using the key supplied with the drive, but of course I was given 30 days to activate it - who is not able to do. Now, windows must stop working once AGAIN, unless I repeat again and again the installation process. I think it is complete BS that Microsoft does that. I bought the drive, I have the key, they should provide me with a way to solve the problem that THEY should have been fixed a long time ago. Vista stop working due to problems of Vista. I can't even use their technical support, because I refuse to pay the sum of $59.99, they ask.

  5. an toll-free telephone number will appear with a set of numbers generated by Windows and displayed on your screen.

  6. dial the number and follow the automated instructions.

So I used a little program (productkey86.exe) out of the registry. So far so good. So I installed vista with this productkey but now my computer is telling me that I need to activate. When I try to activate microsoft says: impossible to activate the product.

  Does anyone know what I need to do?

  The problem is that the key on the lower side is an OEM license key and doesn t work with normal Vista installation diskettes. So that s the problem why you can t activate your Vista installation.

  You wrote that you have a Vista installation disc. Why you n t use the key that belongs to this disc? This would work ;)
