Re activation SSID

I was able to disable my SSID in the advance settings, I try now to allow it, but now get the message, the settings have been changed and I have to use the username admin with my current password to access my settings and when I do, it bounces me in the name of user and password box without allowing me to access the advance for re settings allow the broadcast of the SSID. In addition, at the opening of Cisco Connect it takes me to the first page, he directs me to the foregoing.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was able to get through the web interface, the admin/password would not work until I discovered that you need to enter your password. It wouldn't work if you copy and paste your password into the password field. Everything is now fixed. People to know their password, not copy and paste.

As all the clients that we use are computers laptops Macbook Pro who takes supported 802.11ac, I created a new WLAN (SSID) with Radio 802 11 a only to force all laptops to use the 5 Ghz band to check that it makes the difference. The SSID is not visible as a network available on the client if the radio SSID is set to "802. 11 a only"if it is marked to broadcast the ssid. • After a clean install of Windows Vista, Intel Wifi card is installed and activated, but does not detect the network.

Wireless card not working after a clean install of Windows Vista

I did a clean install of Windows Vista Home Premium on my HP Pavilion of 32 bits. I've completely updated Windows via Service Pack 2. Given that the clean install, my wireless card, Intel (r) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, was not able to detect all the networks. The Wifi card is listed under NICs as being installed and activated. the hardware on my laptop Wifi switch is set on "on" and the light is blue, indicating that the card is working.

I can connect to the internet if I connect physically my computer to the modem with an ethernet cable wireless, so the modem isn't the problem. Other computers can connect to the wireless modem, so my Wifi modem functionality is not the problem. The problem with my computer.

I tried to uninstall the Intel driver and reboot my computer with the generic driver. Install the driver generic, but my wireless card has not always worked. I then ran an update of windows, nothing helps.

I tried to install the "Intel® PRO /? Wireless and WiFi Link"drivers for Windows Vista (32-bit 13.1.1.1 the latest version and the previous version 12.4.4.5 32-bit) for the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN directly from the Intel Web site at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+WiFi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Wireless+WiFi+Link+4965AGN. The map didn't always work with a driver.

In addition to the pilots, I also downloaded a tool of diagnosis of Intel (Intel® PROSet /?) Utility of WiFi wireless connection for Windows Vista 32 -? Bit). Said diagnostic tool the WiFi card is not installed or enabled, however, Device Manager maintains that he is also installed and active.

Is there a problem that causes Device Manager to say that all is well with the card, but does not map to realize that they diminish the radio signals? Everything's fine, diagnostic, it just does not detect networks around him. Help, please.

  • Cisco Wireless - E2500 N Dual Band router and hide the SSID

    Hello

I tried to hide my SSID by allowing emissions the SSID of the first, and then the other band.

Once I have say-activated the SSID broadcast of the last band my laptop, which has the wireless card, would lose connection to the internet on reboot.

I read somewhere, but now can't find the article, you can hide those SSID, but it requires some work to connect to a network that is more diffuse.

Someone has knowledge on how to go about this, or maybe they could point me to a resource that explains how to set this up... thanks.

    Tom.

The properties of the wireless network. Check "Connect even if this network is not broadcast".

  • Disable broadcast SSID and MAC address turn on filtering on WAG320N

When disabling SSID broadcast and enabling MAC address filtering on WAG320N, my other laptop wireless disconnected.  And when you try to connect, it connects again.

You can not hide from intruders.

The router always sends the tag. The router is immediately detected.

The SSID is always transferred not encrypted. He is always sent over the association. It is easy to force a re-Association. If there is a single device without wire connected to the access point it takes about a second to learn the SSID.

Disable the SSID requires your wireless devices to search actively for the network. This means that your laptop will always try to connect to your SSID, as long as it is not connected to another network. As sending requires much more power then listen passively it drains your battery.

And, in fact, if you are in an internet café anyone can learn your SSID in time where you go on the wireless at the moment where you associate with the network of internet café.

In addition, it causes many problems with different wireless, as instability or similar cards.

MAC filtering is still more useless that the MAC address is always part of any wireless transmission and it's always clear. It is extremely easy to pick up the allowed MAC addresses, and it is extremely easy to change the MAC address of a wireless card.

New: use the real security and forget this nickname of security features.

What you try to do is a waste of time. Of your time. It will slow down any intruder.

  • running two SSID, WPA2 and WEP

    Hello

    I have a WRT610N.

How isolated are two SSIDS that I can run?

I know that one runs at 5 GHz and other 2.4 GHz.  I gave each a SSID and a different security policy: I run 'sensitive' under WPA2 stuff, and I run the other supported legacy hardware that supports only WEP (for example, my son Nintento DS).

But these two keys to the same House, so to speak?  If somebody cracks my WEP network, can access the machines on the WPA network?  Or they are completely isolated?

    Does make sense?

    Thanks for any clarification.

    -Mike

Yes, they are "two keys to the same House.   Home' is your LAN.   If someone crack your WEP and intones wireless to your router, then they have access to your local network.   It would be like allowing an attacker connect your computer directly to your router.   Being on your LAN, puts the hacker in a very good position to penetrate into any other computer on your network.    Your WPA2 encryption gives you no protection from someone who is already on your local network.

The solution to your problem is to run two separate wireless routers:

    Modem - ROUTER1 ROUTER2-

ROUTER1 is set to 'Local address IP' 192.168.1.1, encryption WEP, "AP Isolation" value to "activated", (note: no printer on ROUTER1)

ROUTER2 is set at "IP address local' 192.168.2.1, WPA2 encryption, use a password (and not something similar to the WEP password).

modem is connected to the Internet of ROUTER1 port

Of the ROUTER1 LAN port is connected to the Internet of the ROUTER2 port

Channels 2.4 GHz Wireless on both routers must be different and are preferably at least 5 channels apart.  Usually channels 1, 6 or 11 are working perfectly.

With the above two router configuration, the Internet of ROUTER2 port should protect you from intruders on ROUTER1.

  • WAP4400N Mode, SSID, IP addresses

Hello: I set up a wireless cable/DHCP for a motel.  They currently use a WRVS4400N Wireless - N Router connected to their cable modem and maintains two access points wireless (WAP4400N) of wire to the router, Internet wireless for all their guest rooms.  The network is used only to access the internet.  I'm stuck on a couple of AP configuration options and wanted to know if someone might have some recommendations for me.

    1. AP MODE: I guess I'll use "Access Point" mode, rather than "Repeater" mode, because I would like to have an identical to each access point flow.  Homelessness is not a consideration at this point.
    2. SSID: these can match that of the router or not.  I'm not sure modes or the benefits when the SSID is all the same or different.
    3. IP addresses: Should they be in the same range as the router? (The router is configured for users of 99, with address of 192.168.1.100 departure.  "I think that the router supports a maximum of 64 active WLAN clients.)
    4. RADIO CHANNEL: the router is set to Ch.11.  There should be two AP unique strings (for example, Ch.1 and Ch.7)?  All three devices operate on the same channel and, if so, is there an advantage to that?

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

    Best,

    Dan.

    1. Yes, your fashion should be Aaccess Point, since the two WAP will be connected to the router.

    2. having the same SSID on all them access point is usually used when you plan the roaming wireless - in this way, the wireless client can connect (more or less) seamlessly from one AP to another that AP, the customer is closer

You can use different SSID if you differentiate a point of access on the other. (You can name it level 1, level 2, etc.)

    3. it is recommended for the APs to have the same IP range as the router for easy access in case you need to change something. If she has a different subnet than the network, you will need to set static IP address on a computer, just so that you can access the interface of the router.

    4. better to have PSA set different channel to avoid interference.

  • Help: wet610n will not connect to wrt610n when the ssid broadcast is disabled

I have a wet610n wirteless bridge linking very well with my router wrt610n broadcast ssid is enabled on the router, but when I turn it off then (the rest unchanged), the wet610n can not connect.

    What I am doing wrong?

Or require the wet610n ssid will be broadcast (I didn't read that anywhere)?

    Thank you

I have power cycled it, but I tried again and then experienced little more after you reset the wet610n and reconfiguring again.

What seems to work, is to allow the broadcast of the SSID of the router and leaving the wet610n bridge wireless connection. So I can turn off the broadcast of the SSID and power cycle the wet610n and it can then connect.

Without the first activation of SSID and connected, the bridge connects wireless.

Thank you - it is "resolved".

But the default configuration which is set would not work. • WRT54GL DHCP IP Active Table

When I try to watch the active IP connections, using the DHCP Client Table under status, I don't see not all PCs / devices connected to the router WRT54GL.  I have a pc and a switch, but I don't see the other pc on my home network even if it is active and connected to the internet.  Is there a reason for this?

As long as you use WPA or WPA2 and a password, you should not worry about the intruder wireless.  Note that WEP encryption can be easily broken and should not be used except in cases where it is impossible to use WPA or WPA2.

The DHCP table does not list the devices as being wired or wireless.

A device name is usually entered directly in this device, so you should consult the user's Guide for your dvd player, etc to see if they took in charge a feature 'device name '.

If you are not wireless, another option is to simply "turn off" the wireless router, then you don't need to worry about encryption.

If you prefer to keep your network wireless power, here are my tips to secure your wireless network:

To configure wireless security, you must use a computer that is connected to the router.

Where to find the settings on the router: the router login password is usually on one of the pages 'Administration '. All other settings are found in the 'Wireless' or the 'Security' of the pages of the router configuration topic to 192.168.1.1

First of all, give your router a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys".
Make sure that "Broadcast SSID" is set to "enabled".

Then leave the router by default (with the exception of the unique SSID) wireless settings and then use your pc to a wireless connection to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure that it works correctly. You must have a working connection order before you configure security wireless Wi - Fi.

To implement wireless security, you must do a step at a time, then make sure you can always connect your computer wirelessly to the router.

Then, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption than all your wireless devices will support. Common methods of encryption are:

WEP - poor (see note below)
WPA (sometimes called PSK or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best

WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "business." Most home users should use "personal." In addition, if you have the choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any method of encryption, you must provide a key (sometimes called a "password").

Wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have to be put in place with the SSID, encryption method and key that matches what you have entered in the router.

Test your system again and check that your Internet connection still works correctly.

And don't forget to give a new password to login to your router.

Choose passwords (keys): you should never use a Word from the dictionary as a password. If you use a Word from the dictionary as a password, or WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you take your login password and key encryption (password or password), you must use a random combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters and numbers letters, but no spaces. A connection password, must be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords must be less than 24 characters. Note: Your key, password or password should not be a space in it.

Most individuals should have their routers defined so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your password needs to be increased to a minimum of 24 random characters.

An additional problem is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. The patch is in SP3, you must run WPA2 in Win XP SP3. Vista already supports WPA2.

    Note:
WEP is not recommended. The FBI has shown that WEP can be cracked in a few minutes using software tools that are readily available on the Internet. Even a random character long password will not protect you with WEP. You should preferably use WPA or WPA2 encryption.

  • Printer SSID that are on my list of wi - fi

Hi, I recently bought the HP CP1025NW printer. I am able to configure this printer without any problems. I just noticed that the ssid of the printer appears on my list of wifi. At the same time that the SSID is not secure. I don't want people that I'm not able to access my printer and printing things out there. Is it possible for me to get it?

My apologies.  The most common cause of see SSID the printer is when connected by USB only as the network printer will not have a connection.

However, this printer has an additional feature called direct wireless printing.  This feature is disabled by default, but it broadcasts a second network when turned on, regardless of the connection of the printer.

I suspect that this function has been activated.  If you have not already done so, turn it on wireless and it should automatically connect to your network (this can take a few minutes to connect).

The following is from page 71 of the Manual.  Follow the same steps to get to a direct wireless configuration, but uncheck the box enable wireless direct printing.  Since it was broadcasting the SSID even with WiFi, this should turn this feature off.  I've included a screen shot of what looks like the page direct printing wireless is enabled.

Use HP Direct print (for models with wireless only)

Use HP Direct Print to print directly on the product from any mobile device (such as a smart phone, net
    book or laptop).

NOTE: No installation is necessary, but HP direct-printing must be enabled. Your mobile device must have a
    HP printing application installed.

    1. in order to allow the HP Direct print, follow these steps:

    a. once the product is connected to the network, print a configuration page and identify the
    IP address of product.

The network configuration page can be printed by holding button summary (paper with an arrow pointing down on it) for a few seconds.  Once the flashes activity, it should display the page a few moments later.  The IP address will be located on that impression.

    (b) on your computer, open a Web browser and enter the IP address of the product to the address
line. The HP EWS screen appears.

    c. click on the network tab.

    d. on the networking page, click direct wireless configuration. Select the check box, enter it
name (SSID) in the field of direct printing wireless network name (SSID) and then click
the button apply. The IP address of the mobile device is displayed in the network management page.

NOTE: To find the name of the network (SSID), click Wireless Configuration menu in the
    Networking page.

Wireless direct printing is a feature designed to allow users to find and print to the printer without having to constantly change networks.  Disabling wireless printing Direct won't affect your Apple devices or other printing as long as they are on the same network.

    Hello

the strange situation is as follows:

wireless - connected according to wifi for wireless LAN configuration, BBVE also recognizes that this wlan key is connected.

But: slide down to quicksetup watch activates a Wi - Fi connection, but no wlan SSID name.

tests of shows: one of the mobile network connection is used by the applications.

Disabling the closed mobile connection shows under "WiFi" SSID and apps now use the wlan connection.

later reactivate the mobile networks and the WiFi connection is lost for the apps again...

sometimes restart fixes this, but then again this question comes backup upward.

Any suggestions for one more permanent solution (other than reboot until both work)?

    Concerning

    HK

seems, that I solved it now

the problem is with a VPN set to automatic connection via the mobile network (only), this forces obviously BB10 to prefer the mobile connection on any wlan connection.

activation of vpn autoconnect for mobile and Wi - Fi seems to correct this problem.
