  You can try turning off security completely program and try to install the updates in a clean boot state.

  1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER. (If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.)

  2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

  3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

  4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

  5. click on OK.

  6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

  7 log on to your account.

  Try to install the updates and check

  If the problem does not reappear when your computer is in clean boot mode, a background program probably causes interference.   Hello, I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit with SP2 and recently met a problem trying to get windows updates. I spent days reading post and the windows support and community application solves nothing doesn't. I receive the error 80246008 so they were trying to get updates. I followed of many positions and patches with a limited degree of success recommended. I have windows update to activate and my COM + service is on and working but my smart information transfer Service does not appear in my register and the list of services. I saw the patches for other versions of windows, but not for Vista, maybe I'm just blind? Any help would be greatly appreciated even if your just pointing me in the right direction. On another note, I can't get MSE update of virus definitions, related question, I guess?
