Re: Satellite L550D-12F - fan is always running

Hello!

We have a Toshiba L550D-12F and we are quite satisfied with the device itself - if it wasn't noisy fan. The fan ALWAYS runs audibly and I can't find any setting in the BIOS to its control.

For my pain verxy I do not also find a support contact form to contact Toshiba so I hope that someone here will have a solution... Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Matthias

Hello guys

I hope that my advice will help a little. I recommend you to use the laptop with the balanced power plan. Pleae change also advanced for this plan. In the advanced settings, you will find Toshiba power saver and the cooling method options. Place the change on the lower level.
It should reduce the activity of fan.

For example, when I use my Tecra A11 at the office for Office and mail applications I use for laptop and power management standby runs very quiet but the performance are always good.

  • Fan is always running on Satellite L350D - 12 M

    Hello

I just wanted to ask - is it normal for a laptop to be fan always on as soon as I turn on the laptop fan comes in and hot air out its an AMD Athlon x 2.

    Thanks for any info

On most of the portable fan will begin to operate a few seconds after turning on the laptop computer.
Is that CPU reached high enough temperatures in seconds and cooling sensors detect it and fan will begin to run fast enough.

When the operating system is loaded fans will run more silent. You can reduce the activity of fan if you change the value of cooling method in Toshiba saving settings.
This option, you can find in the advanced settings of the power plan that you use.

I have the Satellite L300D before me and it runs pretty quiet after changing the value of the cooling method. Simply, set it to optimized battery.

  • Satellite A100-159 - FAN is always on

    Hello
    I bought Satellite A100 159 with T2500 and Radeon x 1600.
Fan is always on. I've updated the bios and it did not help. What is more, when I put the driver ATI PowerPlay to use and when the battery is low, I get only a few scratches on the desk and the computer restarts. Windows indicates that there is problem with unknown driver.
What can I do to stop the FAN - my CPU temperature is 28-31 cellsius and the frequency is always set to 2000 MHz (everest watch 1995 MHz).
I think that, this fan should not run while the temperature is so low. My old centrino almost always has 40 to 50 degrees and the fan is always disabled.
What can I do more to make the fan only works when the temperature is above 40 degrees?

    Kind regards

I should add that my old Acer TM 4502 with Centrino has SpeedStep that makes of changing speed from 500 MHz to 1600 MHz CPU. I would like to do with my new Satellite - it might help with the problem of fan. If I change the speed of the CPU that the temperature will be lower and the fan does not spin all the time.
I noticed that the fan is stopped when I start the computer in the morning when it is cool. After windows starts when rizes temp fan starts and doesn't stop.

    Kind regards

    Hello

The Toshiba power saver is responsible for the processor and the fan controlling.
Please open the energy saving mode you are using, choose the menu Basic tab and change the option method of cooling to a lower level. In addition, you can change the method of control of the CPU to auto.
This procedure should allow to change the use of the fan.

  • Rear chassis fan Z400 always runs at high SPEED

I have several Z400 workstations. One of them is much noisier than the rest: the rear system (case fan) fan is almost always running at high RPM. On the normal Z400s, the BIOS Setup. File | Speed of about 1 600 rpm of fan reports of temperatures of the system chassis. On the noisy Z400, the chassis fan speed is reported as 3752 RPM. The two Z400s run the latest version of the BIOS public, 3.57. Both have a BIOS Setup | Power | Thermal | Fan Idle Mode set to 1. Fan Idle Mode 1 to 5 on the normal Z400 cycling makes a huge difference in fan RPM. Bike 1-5 on the noisy system has hardly made a difference.

How can I calm the chassis fan in the noisy Z400? I carefully cleaned to vacuum inside the Z400, including the withdrawal of the air cover that protects the DIMMs. If it's important, the Z400s running Windows 7 Pro with all the latest patches.

I noticed that the BIOS Setup. File | Temperatures of the system reported a temperature of 23 C on the 0C on the noisy Z400 Z400 normal. Are there opportunities that "0C Température" means that the room temperature sensor is broken, and without knowing what the temperature, the BIOS runs the fan at full speed no matter what? If so, how would I debug/fix this?

    Thank you.

    Scott, you are quite right.

I replaced the on/off switch and LED cable assembly, including the thermal sensor, on the noisy Z400 with a plug to a normal Z400. The noisy Z400 is now normal, with a rear chassis at about 1700 RPM fan. The BIOS reports the temperature of ambient air properly to 23 C.  'How to' instructions from HP for the replacement of the cable were good enough. Now all I have to do is to order another set of good cable.

Scott, thank you very much, for the rapid diagnosis and useful links. This issue is RESOLVED. Thanks again.

  • Satellite A200-1N9 fan begins to run faster and become strong

    Hello

So, I have a strange problem. When my fan starts to run faster it bocome so loud, I can't work.
What is more strange when he has bocome hard I can't start new programs and programs already running freezes.

What kind of sorcery is this?

    Sincerely
    By Aspera

    null

    Hello

This occurs because a process running in the background constraints the CPU at 100% and this creates more heat dissipation and the fan on and short shot more quickly to cool the CPU. In addition, the CPU is locked and therefore the system hangs for a while.

You should check what method or tool stresses the CPU.
You can start the task (CTRL + ALT + DELETE) Manager and check the processes tab.
Here you can see in the CPU column which processes are using most of the CPU performance.

  • Fan is always running on my Satellite Pro L670-17R

    Hi all

First of all, I'm french, so excuse me for my poor English. I'll try to explain my problem. I've just bought a satellite Pro L670-17R, core i5 450, ati 5650.

As I only work with the word or surf the web, fan runs always every two minutes. I checked the temperature of the processor (with pc health monitor from toshiba), and it gives me 37 ° C which seem quite normal.
I'm trying to change an option in the Panel, but without success, anything in the bios, to set the speed of the fan over the CPU usage.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, it would be great.

If you want to reduce the speed of the fan cooling use the balanced power plan and go into the advanced power settings.
Energy saving of Toshiba you will find the option called cooling method. Assign the optimised battery.
Cooling fan should run on low speed.

    Check it out.

  • Satellite P300 - 19 H fan is always running

    Hello

I have readen a few topics on this problem, but there is no solution.
    I have a Toshiba P300 - 19H and the fan still works...
I have readen that could be a problem with ATI HD card but I can not solve... Can you help me?
    Thank you

    Hello

I see that you've already found this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/message.jspa?MessageID=148102

Here you can find information posted by other users that the cooling modules still work if the highest temperature level has been reached!
This can happen very quickly because the P300 was equipped with a powerful processor and graphics that create a higher heat dissipation.
In addition, you can change the parameters of module cooling in Vista power settings.
In XP you can change it in Toshiba Power Saver.

Finally and above all, please make sure that the cooling modules are dust-free and that there is enough free space around the laptop to ensure a good air circulation.

  • Satellite A100-158: fan is always on with BIOS 5.9

    Hello.

I have an a100-158 and use Windows XP and I installed the BIOS 5.9. I noticed bios versions 5.x are for those who use Vista so the cooler still works because of the Aero interface.

When I got the BIOS 1.3 the cooler was quiet but now with 5.9 the cooler makes a lot of noise and that is not very comfortable for study to the laptoc near us...

No chance to solve this problem?

The A100-158 belongs to the PSAA9E series and it was delivered with the XP and with Phoenix BIOS am I good?

Well well, a question; Why update you the BIOS if the laptop works properly. You know that BIOS update is always risky and should be only last resort to solve any problems.

However, I recommend to reinstall the Toshiba power saver and change the settings in the menu of basic-> cooling methods

    Maybe it helps.

If note, you will need to set the BIOS to the original version. But in this case, the ASP must be contacted ;(

    Good luck

  • Satellite C850-B076 fan always running and won't stop

Any notice, what's the problem? and how to fix it?

    Kind regards

On this virtual path that it is not possible to provide accurate diagnosis, and to say with certainty what the problem is here, but if the warranty is valid contact Toshiba service as close as soon as possible and ask for help.

    They have to fix.
Unfortunately, this kind of problems, your possibilities are quite limited.

  • My HP Pavilion case cooling fan just started running constantly.

My case Office cooling fan runs constantly.  He just started this.  My computer is a HP Pavilion, Nr QX344AA #ABC.  I did no significant change

    Hello

Case fans will always run so how (speed) is the question.

Your PC can be covered by the warranty.  Did you check the warranty status?

Open the PC and use a can of compressed air to blow out all the dust, including the dust of the heatsink from the CPU.  While the PC is open, disconnect and reconnect the connector to the case fan goes to the motherboard to make sure the connection is tight.

Ensure that the PC to not locked up in restricted airspace.

Have you tried latest version of the bios updated?  The most recent is 7.16.

  • Satellite A300 - fan always runs at full speed after full stop

When I stop the Satellite A300, the fan always runs at full speed.

    Hello

What? Cooling modules run, even in this case, the cell phone is off?
Press the power button for at least 4 seconds, then the laptop must be turned off.
Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery
Wait about an hour and reconnect the battery and AC adapter
Then switch on the device after a certain time of use of turning the unit off and check if the cooling modules would stop too

  • Satellite R830 - 10 c fan always run very fast

    Hello

I just erased the hard drive and reinstalled all CD recovery disc. The only additional software that I installed is windows office 2010.

I have read other discussions on the fan and changed the setting to colling under voltage of the battery and I've updated the BIOS. I don't think I have the recognition of the fingerprint software installed only face.

However fan works always very very fast all the time. Processor, which is an i3 2310 @2. 10 GHz, around 30% and 50% of RAM is bieng used approximately 2.04 GB.

IEXPLORER uses more CPU and RAM to all about 02-05 looking at the Task Manager and about 482 000 K memory. I have 92 processes. System Monitor is running the most discussion, 145 under resources. I don't know what this means, but the blue line on the chart of the CPU in the resource manager is always upward at 100% outside the odd dip to 95%.

Anyone with any ideas or solutions, it would be much appreciated!

    Thank you

It is a known issue with McAffe. Remove this preinstalled trial version will reduce CPU activity and automatically cooling fan runs much quieter. I put t know what antvirus you use now but with Avira antivir, you'll be happy.

  • Satellite Pro L series: fan always running even at IDLE when LAN is on

the fan always running even at IDLE when lan is on
Thanks for any help, that can stop the fan...

    Just see your questions:
What model of laptop do you have exactly?
    What system do you use?
What exactly do you mean by power of LAN?

I can tell you that the cooling modules are controlled by fan table stored in the BIOS.
Usually, the fan starts to spin if the CPU would be responsible for some unique applications/processes. It would also be possible that your fan is running continuously with low performance to maintain the low temperature. This isn't a real problem for laptop.

  • Satellite P100-347: after update 4.10 BIOS fan always runs at maximum

    Hello!
I have a P100-347 and had graphics problems of stuttering while playing games. Updated BIOS 4.0 to 4.10, it solves the problem of stuttering!

Now, my fan always runs at maximum, it never ideals.
It's always the same, even when I choose its configuration. I use the same drivers as before, just only update the bios.

I tested with the latest divers chipset intel and Nvidia alsow driver and it's always the same.
So my concludes is the BIOS, is Toshiba knows something about this problem and work on a newer bios?

    Sincere friendships Ishmael

Everything indicates that the BIOS 4.10 is the problem common to the always high speed of the graphic fan even when the PC is in sleep mode.

I want to see action as a new revision of the BIOS 4.10!

  • Portege Z830 - fan noisy and almost always running

My new Portege Z830 has the issue of noisy fan and almost always running which has been said here before.

Recommendations were that we download bios 1.6. But I checked and that the version is already installed on my machine. I also adjusted the power save mode battery parameters as others have suggested. But that made no difference,

All the other tips has been give in technical language far this beginner.

If anyone has any suggestions they might put in words of one syllable and the step by step instructions, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you.

I found also two documents from Toshiba on exactly this topic and as saying that update BIOS version 1.60 or higher would solve the problem
