Portege Z830 - fan noisy and almost always running

My new Portege Z830 has the issue of noisy fan and almost always running which has been said here before.

Recommendations were that we download bios 1.6. But I checked and that the version is already installed on my machine. I also adjusted the power save mode battery parameters as others have suggested. But that made no difference,

All the other tips has been give in technical language far this beginner.

If anyone has any suggestions they might put in words of one syllable and the step by step instructions, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you.

I found also two documents from Toshiba on exactly this topic and as saying that update BIOS version 1.60 or higher would solve the problem

  • Fan noisy and slow speed for the Macbook Air with 10.11.4

I hope you can help me.

I upgraded 10.11.4 on my Macbook Air a couple of days. It is a model of 2013 Mid, 1.7 Ghz Core i7, 8 GB of RAM.

I don't know exactly what my last update was - but was El Capitan any.

I tried LANDAU and SMC resets.

Previously, she has chugged along fine. The fan was quiet most of the time - only hit on when I used Lightroom.

Now, the fan kicks on regularly, most of the time actually. And it's MUCH slower. Very lag sometimes when you type in Wordpress, for example. And lightroom is much slower. Also, when I use FaceTime, video often turns itself on and off--with a message informing me that it will resume when the computer cools down. Yet the back of the computer does feel not hot at all.

I tried page of Chrome in Safari. Doesn't seem to help much.

I am currently traveling to the Peru and did not my hard drive with my last backup, Time Machine, by hand, so as I understand it, I can't go back to a previous update.

The kernel uses excessive CPU cycles. Here are a few possible causes for the State. Some may not apply to you.

    FileVault

Please, open the security and privacy pane in system preferences and click the FileVault tab. If there is an indication that the encryption or decryption is in progress, wait (possibly several hours) so he can finish and see if there is an improvement.

When he does readings of high temperature in the material, or a MacBook battery low voltage readings, the kernel can try to compensate by interrupting the processor to slow them down and reduce energy consumption. This condition may be due to:

☞ an accumulation of dust on the logic board

    High ambient temperature ☞

☞ a defective battery or worn in a laptop

☞ the malfunction of a cooling fan, temperature probe, a probe or some other component voltage internal

Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there can be no real overheating or undervoltage.

If the computer is portable, try with and without the power adapter connected. If pigs kernel_task processor only on current alternative, load is causing the machine to heat up. This behavior may be normal for some models, but it can also be an indication of a hardware failure.

Apple diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, although not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more in-depth material test, an appointment of 'Genius' to an Apple Store, or go to an other authorized service provider.

If all goes well with the material, then everything that you can do to improve the cooling can help.

    Software installed

The software installed by the user which includes a device driver or other kernel code can thrash of the kernel. This category includes virtualization, such as Parallels and VMware software, as well as products 'anti-virus' more commercial. Some system monitoring applications, like "iStat", may also contribute to the problem. You can test this possibility to completely disable or remove the software according to the instructions of the developer or start in safe mode. However, it should be noted that the deactivation of a modification of the system without removing or test in safe mode is not as easy as you think.

    Corrupt NVRAM or MSC data

Sometimes, the problem is cleared up by resetting NVRAM memory or MSC.

    External display

Connect an external display to some models of MacBook Pro while the lid is open can cause this problem. If necessary, use the external clamshell modescreen.

    Other devices

Disconnect devices wired everything except those needed at startup and remove all the expansion cards of third parties (if your model.) If the problem is resolved, reconnecting devices one by one by one until you identify the culprit.

  • Rear chassis fan Z400 always runs at high SPEED

I have several Z400 workstations. One of them is much noisier than the rest: the rear system (case fan) fan is almost always running at high RPM. On the normal Z400s, the BIOS Setup. File | Speed of about 1 600 rpm of fan reports of temperatures of the system chassis. On the noisy Z400, the chassis fan speed is reported as 3752 RPM. The two Z400s run the latest version of the BIOS public, 3.57. Both have a BIOS Setup | Power | Thermal | Fan Idle Mode set to 1. Fan Idle Mode 1 to 5 on the normal Z400 cycling makes a huge difference in fan RPM. Bike 1-5 on the noisy system has hardly made a difference.

How can I calm the chassis fan in the noisy Z400? I carefully cleaned to vacuum inside the Z400, including the withdrawal of the air cover that protects the DIMMs. If it's important, the Z400s running Windows 7 Pro with all the latest patches.

I noticed that the BIOS Setup. File | Temperatures of the system reported a temperature of 23 C on the 0C on the noisy Z400 Z400 normal. Are there opportunities that "0C Température" means that the room temperature sensor is broken, and without knowing what the temperature, the BIOS runs the fan at full speed no matter what? If so, how would I debug/fix this?

    Thank you.

    Scott, you are quite right.

I replaced the on/off switch and LED cable assembly, including the thermal sensor, on the noisy Z400 with a plug to a normal Z400. The noisy Z400 is now normal, with a rear chassis at about 1700 RPM fan. The BIOS reports the temperature of ambient air properly to 23 C.  'How to' instructions from HP for the replacement of the cable were good enough. Now all I have to do is to order another set of good cable.

Scott, thank you very much, for the rapid diagnosis and useful links. This issue is RESOLVED. Thanks again.

  • Keys FN + F2... F12, two finger scroll not working not Portege z830-10 q

    Hello

I just bought a Portege z830-10 q, and there are a few items that do not work.

FN + F2 to F12 shortcut keys don't really work, or any other nice combination of FN + SPACEBAR, etc., is not the button to disable the touchpad below the space bar.

Also, I can't get the function two finger scrolling works.
Interestingly, the FN + ESC and FN + F1 to work.

I saw something in a previous comment on flashcards, I checked that and tried to play with the settings, but they don't seem to work either.

Don't know if I need t download no additional driver.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Hello

I assume you are using Win 7. Is this good?

In this case I recommend to uninstall the first added value package.
Then download the VAP driver Toshiba UE page and install the new.
You may need to reboot several times the system after removing the VAP.
Value added package contains a few essential tools that are in charge of mobile extra features like for example FN button feature.

By the way: the two fingers scrolling option must be checked in the control panel-> mouse-> last tab-> Advanced Settings button
You will find all the options of touchpad.

For AC adapter Volt and ampere values are important.
Therefore, use a power adapter 19V. The value of intensity may be a little higher but shall not be less.

The form of mathematics for watt is: volts x amps = watts

I bought your new Portege Z830 - X 11 and connected my mouse (logitech) bluetooth to the computer.
However, after I restarted the computer, the connection was lost and since then, the computer indicates the power of bluetooth is disabled (even though I am pass it on (and market), all connections switch once, and etc.) using fn + f8 keys. all drivers say they work well, but the bluetooth is disabled since then.

It is really strange. Did you install additional software for BT?

  • Fan runs almost always since the installation of Sierra and MacBook Air running Mac OS.

    Hello

Since upgrading to Mac OS Sierra last night on my MacBook Air (2013, i7, 8gbRAM), fans work almost always, even when I use Safari.  Previously, the fans would go only when I was playing a game, or video edition.  The basis of my Macbook Air is also much more hot he was under El Capitan - once again, just when you use Safari.  As a result, my battery life is horrible - dropped from 100% to 23% in a little over an hour.  Once again, under El Capitan, if I was just using internet, use of an hour would see the maximum of 10 to 15% of decline in battery.

I turned off my Macbook Air and it turned on again after fifteen minutes, but in 10-15 minutes, fans revived upward and the base (and the top of the keyboard) heated again.  No uncomfortable levels, but certainly noticeable levels.

Just to remind - I use Safari only when this happens.  Moreover, since the beginning of this question five minutes ago, the % of battery has dropped from 29 percent to 22 percent and the fans are still whirring like the dickens.

No idea why this is happening?

Hello, take a look at this maybe of http://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/mac/fix-overheating-macbook-3592266/ article it will help.

  • Portege M800: The fan is almost always on

    Hello!

I have a Portege M800 M105 with Vista 64 bit. The fan is almost always on despite the fact that the temperature of the CPU is about 43 to 46 Grad Celsius and the CPU has nothing to do. I used the program Speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) to display the temperature. I find that the noise of the fan is very noisy.
Is there a possibility to control the fan, so that it will be only noisy when the temperature is high?

    Hello

You are right. The Toshiba Power Saver for Win XP looks completely different as the Vista energy saver.
But you can also change many settings in Vista energy saver that contribute to the use of the battery power decreases.

The power settings are a bit hidden in the Vista energy saver but check this thread posted by Jayjay:

    They have to fix.

    Hello!

We have a Toshiba L550D-12F and we are quite satisfied with the device itself - if it wasn't noisy fan. The fan ALWAYS runs audibly and I can't find any setting in the BIOS to its control.

For my pain verxy I do not also find a support contact form to contact Toshiba so I hope that someone here will have a solution... Thank you very much!

    Hello guys

I hope that my advice will help a little. I recommend you to use the laptop with the balanced power plan. Pleae change also advanced for this plan. In the advanced settings, you will find Toshiba power saver and the cooling method options. Place the change on the lower level.
It should reduce the activity of fan.

For example, when I use my Tecra A11 at the office for Office and mail applications I use for laptop and power management standby runs very quiet but the performance are always good.

  • e7240 CONSTANT NOISE OF FAN NOISY / FAN RUNNING ALL THE TIME

We received 2 nine E7240s directly from Dell, one for me and one for my colleague. As soon as I turned it on to build for my colleague, I noticed that the machine was overheating and the fan made a noise. Dell offers an upgrade of the BIOS that has not changed anything. They then changed the radiator, even once, that does not change and since then, they have changed the motherboard. My colleague went on vacation, so I don't know if the problem has been resolved, however, my laptop day you do not overheat (also of course as it has done for my colleague) BUT THE FAN RUNS ALL THE TIME. So much so that I think that the person in the room upstairs is using his hairdryer. Dell has replaced the heatsink of heat and the motherboard yesterday, I did the same update of the BIOS and the problem is even worse. As soon as I turn the thing, the fan runs all the time making a big noise. My predecessor was the E6500 and I was not bothered by noises, he did.

The 7240 made so much noise that I want to throw it out the window , seriously, I go back to my old 5 years e6500, which is now very slow, I can not just take constant hair dryer of the fan noise! I'm waiting for Dell back to me, but I don't see what else they can do.

I suspect a problem of design with newer models, someone with a laptop computer Latitude 13 also mentioned it on the Forum, someone else with an e7240 also said "I noticed the fan turns most of the time - it's quiet, but you don't know is spinning."  I just implemented, so the CPU is busy enough. "A person with the e6320 says"and the fan is noisy and turns far too often.

I just bought a new Dell Latitude E7240 with Windows 7 laptop and had the same problem with overheating and the fan is running loudly all the time. I just fixed it on my laptop, it may not work for everyone but just in case I walked it here.

The index for me was that the question has happened at home, not at work.

    • Using the Task Manager, I found that a "svchost.exe" process was always running at 25% of the CPU, i.e. to take 100% of one of the 4 hearts. For this you need view all processes, and that's why you need a local administrator account if she asks permission.
    • With right click on this process-online 'Go to services', you can study what services are hosted by this instance of svchost.
    • For each of these services, try to stop one at a time (if it helps) and see if the CPU usage goes down. For me, a clue was a service stuck on 'Stop' but never stopped.
    • The service which for me was the "HomeGroup provider." That's why the issue has happened at home and at work. The laptop had spotted my homegroup on my home network, but had not been able to accede. Maybe a problem with IPv6 that I could not turn on my desk.
    • In the Services tab in Task Manager, get on the service properties, which set to Disabled Startup Type.
    • Restart the laptop, to ensure that the service is stopped.

That did the trick for me, and now the CPU remains less than 5% when idle. This isn't the problem that the fan is noisy when the CPU usage is high, but for me what rarely happens now.

If you want to access files and printers on your home network without the homegroup feature, you can still do that the old way:

    • Network and sharing Center-Online avancΘs => Homegroup Connection-online 'use user accounts to connect to other computers.
    • Also in the settings advanced: enable discovery network. and Turn on File and Printer Sharing.
    • Then, you can click on your wifi network => add a printer.
    • If your office does not appear, click on "Not listed", then browse. As long as the network discovery and printer sharing are enabled, desktop PC should appear and you can connect using your local Windows user name and password.

    Hope this helps someone.
